The Founding of the Rotary Club of Washington, Iowa
Organized in October 1920. First recorded meeting October 8, 1920. Preliminary meetings in December 1920 and January 1921. First official meeting meeting on Charter Night, February 7, 1921.
The following charter officers served from October 8, 1920 to April 21, 1921: President, Major James Dwyre Glasgow; Vice President, Frank L. Wilson; Secretary, J. Orville Elder; Treasurer, Harvey S. Young.
Charter members were March W. Bailey, Rev. William W. Bowers, H. F. Darbyshire, Dr. James Everett Edgington, Orville Elder, James Dwyre Glasgow, Ed. B. Hammer, W. M. Keeley, J. R. Maxwell, Joseph Stinson McElhinney, Jay J. McNamara, T. R. Phillips, Claude C. Reister, Harry I. Ward, James M. Wilson, Frank L.Wilson, Leigh Hunt Wallace, and Harvey S. Young.
Meetings were held on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month at 12:10 P.M. in the Commerical Club Dining Room.
