This list includes the funeral home documents in the Washington County Genealogical Society collection. Many of the documents were indexed and compiled by the Washington County Genealogical Society and published by the Iowa Genealogical Society. Copyright for individual docments are from 1984 -1998. The funeral home history and list below was prepared by RuthAnn Gugel, WCGS.
Some History of local funeral homes:
The Miller mortuary was located where the Jones Eden Funeral Home is today in Washington, Iowa. The building was built in 1911 by Wilbur Miller. He died in 1917. The business was bought by Charles Woodford. He died in 1924. Louis A. Jones assumed ownership, backed by Joseph McElhinney. 1944 Louis and Florence Jones and their son Willis become sole owners. 1968 Willis purchases the funeral home from his parents. 1979 John Moenck and Wayne Davis become co-owners. John Moenck becomes sole owner after the sudden death of Wayne Davis. 1996 The Jones Funeral Home merges with the Eden Funeral Home. In 2005 Martin Beenblossom purchases the Jones Eden Funeral Home.
Omer Hoskins announced the sale of the Omar Hoskins Funeral Home in Brighton to Mr. & Mrs. Richard Gould of Richland and Mr. & Mrs. Wendell Eden of Lone Tree
