FORD - Population 75. A postsettlement on the D. M. branch of the C. B. & Q. R. R., in Warren County, 16 miles northeast of Indianola, the county seat, and 13 southeast of Des Moines, the nearest banking point. Coal is mined and shipped. Exp., Am. Mail, daily.

INDIANOLA - Population 2,500. The judicial seat of Warren County, in the centre of which it is situated, is the northern terminus of the Iowa branch of the C. B. & Q. R. R., and the southern terminus of the I. & W. branches of the C. R. I, & P. Ry., 21 miles south of Des Moines and 380 west of Chicago, Ill.  It contains 2 large flouring mills, 2 tile factories, a creamery, a planing mill, a canning factory, 2 banks, 6 churches, representing as many denominations, good public schools and a flourishing educational institution under the auspices of the Methodist Episcopal Church.  Two weekly newspapers, the Advocate Tribune (Independent) and the Herald (Republican), are published and keep the citizens informed on all current topics of interest.  Tiles, grain, live stock produce and canned goods are shipped.  Telephone exchange.  Tel., W. SUMMERSET - Population 200. Also known as Somerset, is a village on Middle River, a water power stream and on the west branch of the C. R., I & P. Ry., at the junction of the Iowa branch in Lincoln Township, Warren County, 17 miles south of Des Moines, and 6 north of Indianola, the county seat and nearest banking point.  Settled in 1856, it contains Methodist Episcopal and Baptist churches, and a district school.  Ships live stock and coal.
