Webb Cemetery

WEBB CEMETERY is in the northeast quarter of the northwest quarter of Section 31 of Greenfield Township. Is is located two miles north and one mile west of Spring Hill, Iowa.

Settlement began in Greenfield Township as early as 1845. Early settlers were John Rufe, Noah Reeves and L.F. Bedwell. The first marriage in the township was between Daniel Howard and Miss Johnson.

Spring Hill was laid out in 1872 by Dr. Bevington and William Ashworth. People moved to the new town of Spring Hill and abandoned Greenbush.

Webb Cemetery is sometimes referred to as the Spring Hill I.O.O.F. Cemetery. In Plat Book 1 on page 201 the cemetery is recorded as 25 feet south and 20 feet east of the northwest corner of the northeast quarter of the northwest quarter of Section 31 of Greenfield Township, being 340 feet by 268.5 feet. There is a road on the north and on the west. The lots are numbered from one to one-hundred and eighty. The entry is dated December 20, 1915.

Early records from Webb Cemetery were destroyed when the shed they were stored in burned. For a while Webb Cemetery was referred to as the Lockridge Cemetery because there was a Lockridge family living across the road.
