Smith Cemetery

SMITH CEMETERY is located in Section 15 of Squaw Township. Go south out of Indianola on Highway 69, turn right at the Hershey farm and follow the rock road to the end. Then walk to the right through a field about 700 feet. The cemetery is enclosed in a chain-link fence.

On March 30, 1858, Abel Smith donated 1/2 acre of ground on his homestead for a burying ground. The first burial in this cemetery was possibly that of Albert Shaver, son of Henry & Elizabeth Shaver, who died September 19, 1853. An unmarked Indian grave lies by the gate. The last burial in Smith Cemetery was J.M. Smith who died May 20, 1928.
