Warren County Poor Farm Cemetery

WARREN COUNTY has had two farms to take in the poor, the disabled and the unfortunate. The first farm consisted of 120 acres in the James Laverty neighborhood and was purchased about 1850. This area, close to Peck Cemetery, was too small and was sold March 31, 1869 for $5,000. The county supervisors bought 320 acres of ground in Washington township in the southwest quarter of the southeast quarter of Section 31 for $10.00 per acre. The first to operate the Warren County farm at its new location was R. Zarley. After about five years, the operation was managed by M.E. Young. The cemetery at the Warren County Farm is abandoned although the county still owns the land. At one time thirty stones stood in this cemetery. Only one stone remains, that of Mrs. L.A. [Louisa A.] Reese, 1827-1913.
