R. A. SILVERTHORN

R. A. Silverthorn was a member of Company B, 22d Iowa Infantry. He enlisted at Iowa City, January 4, 1864 and was mustered out in Georgia, July 25, 1865. His company was in several noted engagements in Virginia, and took part in the siege of Vicksburg. On the 22d of May, 1863 this regiment charged a fort at Vicksburg, and captured and held it for nine hours and not being reinforce I fell back. Col. Stone was taken prisoner. Mr. Siiverthorn is one of Union county's prosperous farmers residing near the city of Afton.
