W. T. Maxwell, Justice of the Peace, Collection and Insurance
Agent, Creston, Iowa.
The subject of this sketch first saw the light of day February in
Marion county, Ohio. He has been a resident of the state of Iowa
since 1850 and a resident of Creston since February1870. He enlisted
, August 23d 1862, as a recruit from Monroe county, Iowa, in Compatly
H, First Iowa Cavalry and was honorably discharged at Little Rock,
Arkansas. January 4th 1864, by reason of re-enlistment in same
company and regiment as a veteran. He was promoted from the ranks to
sergeant, in October, 1864, for brave and meritorous conduct. He was
finally and honorably discharged from the service December 5, 1865,
at New Orleans, Louisiana, by special order, No. 94, Department of
the Gulf. For many years he was in the employ of the C. B. & Q.
railroad, but now fills the office of Justice of the Peace. As a
soldier he was ever faithful and as a citizen he is honored and
respected. As he now advances towards life's sunset he can look back
upon a life of usefulness and noble deeds. The world is better for
W. T. Maxwell having entered it. The above picture is true to life
and shows the old veteran thirty-three years after the close of the
war.
