John Henkle

John Henkle was born in Lee county; Iowa, November 29, 1843, his father's family being the second family to settle in that township. He was a soldier in the Civil War,enlisting in Company A, first iowa cavalry and after three years of active service was honorably discharged at Austin, Texas. He is now one of the leading agriculturalists in Union county and has one of the largest and best farms in Sand Creek township. He is also the president of one of our leading banks and a good citizen in every walk of life, Mr. Henkle is surrounded by every comfort of life. His wife is a most estimable lady, and surrounded by a gifted family. They are enjoying the fruits of their early industry and render no small amount of assistance to others who have been less fortunate on life's journey. Mr. and Mrs. Henkle have scattered roses, not thorns, all along; their pathway.
