Wyckoff Family Introduction

The Wyckoff Family first moved to Bedford,Taylor County, Iowa in 1875 from neighboring Ringgold County, Iowa. This was the final move for John Wesley Wyckoff and Barbara Jane Laird Wyckoff. John was born in Warren County, New Jersey. He had moved to Athens County, Ohio with his parents Samuel and Margaret Harrison Wyckoff in about 1856. It was in Athens Ohio that he met and married Barbara Jane Laird daughter of Campbell and Casandra "Cassie" Cagg Laird of Pennsylvania. John and Barbara Laird Wyckoff were married Feb 23 1862 in Athens, Ohio. Their first daughter Mary Adelia was born in Athens, Ohio Feb 1864 but died the same day. In 1865 they moved to Ringgold County, Iowa along with Barbara's parents and siblings. John's brother Joseph Wyckoff and his wife (Barbara's sister) Emma Laird Wyckoff also moved to Ringgold County.
Joseph took up farming as an occupation but John's occupation is listed as a carpenter. In the 1880 Census while in Bedford, Iowa John listed his occupation as cabinetmaker and in 1900 as Undertaker.
While in Caledonia, Ringgold County 3 more children were born to John and Barbara Laird Wyckoff; Louis Elmer, August 15 1866; Bertha Elta, January 23, 1870; and John Wesley, February 23, 1872. After moving to Bedford in 1875 with the 3 children, their youngest son Bertie Clyde Wyckoff was born on August 22, 1878. Since that time the Wyckoff family have lived in Taylor County including several descendants of Louis Wyckoff at the present time.
