Taylor, George William - As noted in our issue of last week, George William Taylor passed to his reward on the 13th. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon in the M.E. church, conducted by Rev Douglass, and interment was in Memory cemetery.

Mr Taylor was one of the old citizens of this community and was a model citizen and his demise is mourned by a wide circle of friends and especially by those who knew him best. He suffered long from that insidious disease, cancer, and death was a welcome relief to him.

The community is better for his having lived in it and the good influence he had upon its affairs will be apparent long after his mortal body has returned to dust.

George William Taylor ws born in Tuscaros Co., Ohio, Dec 7, 1847. Died at his home in New Market, Iowa, March 13, 1918.

When but a boy he moved with his parents to Indiana and from Indiana to Iowa, locating in Taylor county, five miles north east of New Market, where the homestead was laid out and improved.

On June 29, 1873, he was married to Effie McAlpin, and in 1877 they went to housekeeping on the farm two miles east of New Market. Upon this farm he resided for twenty-seven years, when he moved to New Market where he has since resided, except two years spent in Indianola, Iowa, until the time of his death.

Mr Taylor was the father of two children, Bert who died on the 2nd of December, 1915, and Mrs Essie Lake who is a resident of New Market.

Mr Taylor is the last of his father's family to step off the shores of time. He leaves as near relatives and descendants, his companion, one daughter, and five grandchildren waiting the Master's call.

In young manhood Mr Taylor was converted and joined the Presbyterian church and when he moved on the farm near where New Market now is and the Methodist church was organized he became a member of the Methodist church. For more than forty years he has been following the Master's leading, until he heard Him say come up higher. By his going the community has lost one of its best citizens and the church one of its most generous and faithful supporters. May the influence of his Christlike ministries go on in ever widening circles. New Market Herald, March 21, 1918

Obituary - Last Thursday while engaged in preparing the evening meal the angel of death visited the Wamsley home and called the aged mother. There was no suffering or pain, just an instant falling asleep. Mrs Wamsley for more than fifty years has made her home in this community and during all these years has had a good part in shaping the destinies of this community for its upbuilding. She was ever ready to lend a helping hand to the distressed, and her neighborly kindness will have an abiding place in the minds of all who ever lived near her. Her home life was ideal and her children will never forget so long as life lasts the loving care and ministrations of this grand woman.

Funeral services were held at her late home Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev Jas M. Williams of Clarinda and Rev J. Owen Smith of New Market. Interment was in Memory cemetery.

Joanna Giles was born in Morrow county, Ohio, June 13, 1849. With her parents in the spring of 1854 she moved from Morrow county, Ohio, to Mehaska [sic] county, Iowa, where they resided until 1867, when they moved to Page county, Iowa.

She departed this life May 4, 1922, at her late residence east of Clarinda, aged 72 years, 10 months and 21 days.

Lonely is our home without thee,
But we know with thee is well.
How we miss her as a mother
Mortal tongue can never tell.
But the God that gave her to us
Knew her earthly work was done,
And has called her to a mission
In the better, great beyond.
She was mother and we loved her,
But thy will, not ours, be done.
We shall meet again in heaven
When the master calls us home.
O, we loved our precious mother,
But there'll be a vacant chair
Until Jesus comes to gather
All the righteous in the air.

Werts, Netta Alberta Weaver- In our issue of last week brief mention was made of the death of Mrs D.W. Werts. In saying that the whole community was saddened by her death does not begin to express it. She was a woman who was honored and revered by a wide circle who will all sincerely mourn her death. It seems sad indeed for one so young in years, surrounded by a bright family of children who could ill spare the care and love of so splendid a mother to be called away, but the all wise Father knows best and all must bow to his divine will. To the stricken family goes out the genuine sympathy of the whole community.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Baptist church, conducted by Rev Field. Interment was in Memory cemetery.

The church was not large enough to hold the people who attended to pay the last tribute to this good woman. The Rebekah lodge, of which Mrs Werts was an honored member, attended in a body and took charge of the services at the grave.

Netta Alberta Weaver was born at New Market, Taylor county, Iowa, on January 8, 1879, and grew to womanhood on the home farm three miles east of New Market. She was converted to Christ in her girlhood and united with the Baptist church of New Market when about sixteen years of age. From this Faith she has never faltered, but has continually looked onward and upward.

On December 10, 1899, she was united in marriage to Daniel W. Werts. To this union four children were born: Ora Bird, Lawrence Ellis, Neva Velma and Vesta Lela. She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, four children, her mother, Mrs S. Weaver of New Market, Ia., and brothers and sisters, Mrs Emma Watson of Fedora, S.D., Willie Weaver, Fulton,S.D., Mrs Eva Hughes, New Market, Ia., Ora Weaver, Miami, Oklahoma, George Weaver, Mitchel, S.D. Her father, two sisters, Mrs Mandy McAlpin and Mrs Myrtle Shepard, having preceded her to the far beyond.

In life Berta, as she was commonly known by her many friends, was of a modest and kind disposition, endearing herself to her relatives and friends by many little deeds and words of kindness, always placing other's comfort before her own.

In her seven years of ill health she was ever patient, praying for life not for herself but that she might be spared to her family, to whom she was devoted, next to her God. In her last hours of life her prayer was, if it please God I want to live to raise my family. But in spite of all medical skill and the care of friends and family it was not to be.

She departed this life April 20, 1922, being 43 years, 3 months and 12 days old.

Plucked in the prime of life as we pick the Sweetest Rose that grows in the garden.

Why we cannot tell but we know she is with her Savior in whom she gave her trust. New Market Herald, April 27, 1922
