Bose, Elmer Henry -

Funeral services for Elmer Bose, age 89, of Lenox, were held Monday, May 20, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Presbyterian

Church in Lenox with Pastor Tim Maxa officiating. Interment was held in the North Fairview Cemetery in Lenox. Arrangements were

entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Lenox.

Elmer passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2002

Elmer Henry Bose was born on December 19, 1912 on a farm near Athol, Kansas to Henry J. Bose and Sophia Suchland Bose.

He was baptized January 12, 1913 and confirmed on December 9, 1927 at the St. John Lutheran Church in Athol, Kansas. Elmer

grew up attending rural school and graduated from Athol High School in 1930.

On April 23, 1939 he was united in marriage to Esther Zabel at a rural Lutheran Church in Athol, Kansas. The couple was

blessed to share over 63 years together.

Elmer was employed by the Athol Co-op Oil Company in 1934 and one-year later became the manager of the service station.

He answered the call to serve his country in 1943 for the United States Navy.

Upon his discharge he was self-employed as a farmer. Elmer purchased the Lenox Bank with his brother-in-law Ralph Zabel in

1954 and moved the family to Lenox. In 1974 he retired from the banking industry.

Elmer was a member of the Lenox United Presbyterian Church and the Parkinson American Legion Post No.250. He was a past

member of the Lenox Rotary Club and was an avid golfer. Elmer enjoyed hunting, fishing, skeet shooting and reloading shells. He

loved playing a good game of cards with family or friends.

Elmer is survived by his wife Esther of Lenox; a son, Eldon Bose and wife Nancy of Lenox; a daughter, Janice Felton and

husband Jeff of Cheyenne, Wyo.; five grandchildren, Mike Bose, Mendy Abell and husband Scott, Maria Bose, Craig Troudt and

wife Tina and Sarah Troudt; six great-grandchildren, Randy and Jesse Bose, Garrett and Ericka Abell and Brandon and Rachel

Troudt; along with many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Preceding Elmer in death were his parents, Henry and Sophie; a brother Emil Bose; two sisters, Alma Engelke and Mary Henkel;

and an infant grandson, Nickolas Troudt.

Brott, Bertha Amelia Sutherland Olney -

Funeral services for Bertha Brott were held at Clearfield United Methodist Church on Sunday, June 9, with Rev. Len

Garrison officiating. Bertha passed away on June 6, 2002, at the age of 91.

Casket bearers were Gerald Olney, Duane Obey, James Olney, Carroll Olney, Jeffrey Hensley, Dale Olney, Carroll Baker,

and Joe Olney. Vocalist was Randy Trost. Burial was in Redding Cemetery, Redding, Iowa. Wilson-Watson-Armstrong Funeral

Service was in charge of arrangements.

Bertha Amelia Brott was born January 14, 1911 near Mount Ayr, Iowa to Phorman and Nora Alice (Maudlin) Sutherland. She

departed this life at her home in Clearfield, Iowa on June 6, 2002 after a short illness.

She graduated from Mount Ayr High School in 1929 she was united in marriage to Clifton Olney on March 11, 1930 in Mount

Ayr. Seven children were born to this union, Francis Leroy, Helen Louise, Thelma Elaine, Marilyn Lavaun, Edith Lenore, Roger

Earnest and Charlotte Elizabeth.

They made their home in the Redding community where they raised their family, and also she found time to clean homes for

many other families, wallpapered numerous homes with sister-in-law Vera Olney and was a midwife for a few friends. She enjoyed

gardening and canned many fruits and vegetables as a result She enjoyed quilting and cross-stitching pillowcases and made quilts

for her grandchildren as a graduation present She was a member of the Redding Garden Club because she enjoyed the beautiful

varieties.

She helped care for her two granddaughters after their mother, Thelma was killed in a car accident.

Bertha was an active member of the Redding Methodist Church where she taught Sunday and Bible schools for many

years, sang in the choir, was active in the church Booster Circle and U.M.W.

On July 17, 1981 Bertha was united in marriage to Grant Brott in Redding, Ia. They then made their home in Clearfield. She

moved her church membership to the Clearfield Methodist Church.

She loved to be with her family which was most generally around the kitchen table. She enjoyed her many friends, going to

the Clearfield Congregate meal site and the bingo before lunch.

Bertha was preceded in death by her two husbands; daughters; Thelma Kite and Charlotte Trammell; and stepsons, Lowell and

Charles Brott.

Left to cherish her memory are her son Leroy and wife Georgia Olney of Chillicothe, Mo., and their children, Gerald Olney,

James and wife Sharon Olney, Sharon and husband Bob Epperson and Shirley and Greg Ancell; daughter Helen and

husband Clark Miller of Whittier, CA; daughter Marilyn and husband Jay Monday of Visalia, CA and their daughters Deanna

Monday and Delores and husband Frank Paz; daughter Edith and husband Don Hensley; son Roger Olney of Redding, Iowa; and

son-in-law Bill and wife Ruby Kite of Russellville, Ark., and daughters Deborah Kite and Darla and husband Scott Jackson. She

she was especially fond of her great grandchildren, Brandon and Brian Olney, Nathan and Jacob Jackson, Bradley Epperson, Jenee

Hensley, Nalu Paz, Nicole Ancell. She is also survived by two step-daughters-in-law Vaunceil and Charlene Brott of Clearfield;

stepdaughter Betty and husband Leonard Zigler of Brooklyn, IA, and cousins Ila Saville, Orville Sutherland, Frances Rocky and

LaVaun Sutherland and a host of family and friends.

Brown, Anna Eschelman -

Anna Brown, 82, of Corning, formerly of Prescott, Iowa, died Monday, May 27, 2002 at Corning Nursing and Rehab. Services

were held May 30, 2002 at Coen-Beaty-Pearson Family Funeral Service in Creston. Conducting the services was Rev. Dr. Jeanne

Groom. Interment was at the Bohemian National Cemetery. Memorials goes to the family or Williamson American Legion

Auxiliary.

Anna was born on Dec. 15, 1919 in Adair County to John Coleman and Mary Eschelman. Her education was to the 8th

grade. Anna got married on Sept. 11, 1943 to Donald Brown.

She was a homemaker, farm wife, and a lifelong resident of Prescott.

Anna held memberships in the American Legion Auxiliary at Williamson, Post #719, Prescott United Church Disciples of

Christ, Friday Morning Coffee Club, various bridge clubs, Jolly Few and Bag Ladies.

Survivors include a son, David Sadler of Cromwell; daughter Sue (Edward) Montgomery of Maitland, Mo.; sister Grace

Dougherty of Massena; nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Preceded her in death were husband Donald on May 9, 1992; son Douglas Sadler; six sisters; and two brothers.

Folcka, Grace Henretta Kading -

Grace Henretta Kading Folcka was born in Walnut Township of Adair County, Iowa on March 12, 1909, the daughter of Robert

& Caroline Mowry Kading. She grew up in Adair County where she attended rural school through the 8th grade. She stayed home

on the farm to help care for her brothers and sisters and also "worked out" for neighboring families.

She married Floyd G. Folcka on January 2, 1932 and farmed near Menlo, Iowa. She gave birth to one son in 1935 prior to

moving to Lenox, Iowa in 1936.

In 1945, after a bout with pneumonia, they moved to San Diego, where she worked for Dunaway Drug prior to working as

a seamstress in La Jolla and then as a checker for Safeway Stores where she retired in 1963. In 1963 she moved to Creston and

again returned to checking for Hy-Vee Stores for many years. She enjoyed her sewing and was a seamstress and quilter.

Surviving is one son, Ronald Earl Folcka, and his wife Janet; two grandsons, Ronald and Russell; and four great-grandchildren,

all from California; one sister, Irene Cady of Cody, Wyo.; three half sisters, Edna Cline of Casey, Iowa, Vera Sorenson of Omaha,

and Janet Meyer of Stuart, Iowa; one half brother, James Kading of Omaha; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her husband in 1981; her parents; two brothers, Albert & Raymond Kading; one sister, Blanche

Kading; two half brothers, Robert and Paul Kading; and one half sister, Francis Brouhard.

She passed away on April 25th, 2002, at the age of 93 while residing at Crest Haven Nursing Home in Creston, Iowa. Memorial

services will be held Saturday, June 15, at 11 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church located at 602 Townline, Creston. A luncheon

will follow. Private burial preceding services at Oakwood Cemetery, Casey, Iowa. Memorials can be sent to San Diego

Lorean Fuller, of Whitesboro, Texas, died June 4, 2002. Survivors include her daughter, Gloria (Mrs. Lee) West of

Gard, Leo -

Leo Gard, 52, of Corning, Iowa died April 23, 2002 at the Alegent Health Mercy Hospital, Corning. Services were held at

10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 27, 2002, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Corning with Father Dan Siepker officiating. Interment

was at Oak Hill Cemetery in Corning. A Christian Wake was held at 7:00 p.m. Military Honors were by Iowa National Guard. Coen-

Beaty-Pearson Family Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Leo was born on Sept. 26, 1949 in Conway to Glen Ruben Gard and Bessie Mare Sleeth. Leo graduated from Villisca High

School in 1968. He married on Nov. 20, 1969 to Anne Marie Green. Leo worked for the sheriff's department in Corning from

1975. He then transferred to the street department where worked prior to his death. He worked as a mechanic for Miller

Chevrolet from 1973-1975.

Leo lived in Corning for the last 20 years. He loved to cook and camp. He was a member of the VFW Post #3659 in Corning.

Leo served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam and the Gulf War, retired from the Iowa National Guard in 1994.

Leo is survived by his wife Anne Marie Green, Corning; his children, Angela (Kurt) Peterson, Corning, Robert (Rachael) Gard,

Corning, and Katherine Gard of West Des Moines; two grandchildren; brothers Ralph (Sharon) Gard, West Burlington, Ia;

Paul (Cathy) Gard, Union, New Jersey; Sister-in-Law Edith Vickers, Bonaparte, Ia; Brother-in-Law Norman Pierson, Neola,

Ia; Mother and Father-in-Law Levi and Elizabeth Green, Corning.

He was preceded in death by both parents; 2 brothers, Gene and Herb; 2 sisters, Nell Neely and Lucy Pierson; and grandparents.

Hoskinson, Vernon -

Vernon Hoskinson, 61, of Rockwall, Texas, formerly of Prescott, Iowa, passed away May 7, 2002 at his home in Rockwall,

Texas. Services were held on May 11, 2002 at Prescott United Church, Disciples of Christ in Prescott. Officiating was Rev.

Jeanne Groom. Internment was at the Mt Zion Cemetery.

Memorials are to be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Paul Hospice. Coen-Beaty-Pearson Family Funeral Service

was in charge of arrangements.

He was born on February 4, 1941 in Prescott to Leland Stanford Hoskinson and Ila Lucille Putnam.  He graduated from

Prescott High School in 1958, went to the University of Nebraska and graduated with a degree in accounting in 1972.

He also attended the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University, graduating in 1976.

He married Frances Ann Hethcote on June 23, 1962 in Prescott. He worked for the Federal Reserve Bank for 24 years

then went to work for the Bank of America for 19 years. He had a home in Rockwall, Texas, and also in Prescott. He

was a member of the Lake Point Baptist Church in Rockwall, Texas. He will have military services from the United States

Army Reserve.

He was survived by his wife, Frances Ann Hoskinson, and his children, Laurie (Scott) Smith of Nashville, TN., Julie (Rob)

Clark of Denver, CO., Brothers, Earl (Lorrie) Hoskinson of Riverside, CA., and Sisters, Lois (Calvan) Pals of Bowie, MD., and 4

grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, mother and father-in-law Francis (Bud) and Anneva Hethcote.

Johnston, Emerson H (Sonny) -

Emerson H. "Sonny" Johnston, 72 of Creston, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2002 of cancer at the Greater Community

Hospital, Creston, IA.

Services were at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8, 2002 at Coen-Beaty-Pearson Family Funeral Service, Creston. Officiating

was Rev. Dena Vittorio of First Christian Church in Lenox, and Rev. Lynn Garrison. Interment was at Graceland Cemetery.

Memorials go to the Family. Military rites were given by the Theodore J. Martens Post #1797.

He was born on March 8, 1930 in Lenox to Mamie Johnston and Dolly Straight He attended Lenox High School but later

received his GED and completed numerous courses at the universities.

He married in September 17, 1957 in Isadora, Mo., to Phyllis Senteney. He was a Safety Engineer-Construction and retired in

1991. He lived in Creston since 1995 and was a member of the Methodist Church in Clearfield and the American Legion. He

served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by his wife; Phyllis Johnston, Creston, and his children; Ronald (Fiance-Marlene Zeibig) Darling, Lenox; his

brother, Kermit Johnston, Creston; sister Grace Weese of Creston; six grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and two great

greatgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Bernard; an infant brother; sister Alma Smith; and Brother-in-Law

Calvin Weese.

Matheny, John -

John Matheny, 77 of Lenox, Iowa, passed away Friday, June 14 at his home in Lenox. Services will be held at 10 a.m.

Wednesday, June 19, at Coen-Beaty-Pearson Family Funeral Service in Lenox. Conducting the service will be Pastor Jamie

Mogler. Interment is at the North Fairview Cemetery. There will be no visitation, and memorials may be directed to the family.

He was born on May 3, 1925 in Platteville, Iowa to James Harrison Matheny and Mattie Ethel Newby. He graduated from

Blockton in 1943, then married April 21, 1962 in Nebraska City, Neb., to Phyllis Grace. He then worked on a farm until 1962 with

family, worked at Totes in Lenox, and delivered the Creston shopper.

John was a resident of Lenox for 25 years. He was a member of the American Legion and served in the military service June

1994-1946.

He is survived by his sons, Duane Matheny of Clarinda, and Dennis (wife Mary Kay) Matheny of Carthage, Mo.; sisters

Dorothy (husband Cecil) Newkirk of Bedford, and Beulah May (husband Dale) Kernen of Bedford; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Phyllis Grace Matheny on January 27, 1985; daughter-in-law Jodi

Matheny; sister and brother-in-law; Ethel and David Dant; a brother, Marion Matheny; brother-in-law Pete Morrow; sister-in-law

Ellen Gibson; father and mother-in-law Ora and Francis Grace; and brother-in-law; Lawrence Grace.

Million, Arnold (Red) Arthur -

Funeral services for Red Million, age 86, of Shenandoah, formerly of Bedford, were held Wednesday, May 15, 2002 at 11:00 a.m.

at the Ritchie Funeral Home in Bedford with Pastor Albert Baker officiating. He passed away Thursday, May 9, 2002. Interment with

military rites by John F. Hardin American Legion Post #164 were held in Washington Cemetery in Gravity.

Memorials can be given in Red's name.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Bedford,

Arnold "Red" Arthur Million was born Nov. 30, 1915 in Madison Township, Fremont County, Iowa, the son of John M. Million and

Leona Pearl Hale. Red grew up in the Hamburg area. In 1936 he married Lola Miller in Sharps-burg. The couple continued to live in

Shenandoah until 1941 when they moved to Bingham where they farmed.

In 1943 he entered the United States Army serving in World War II. After his discharge in 1946 he returned to Bingham until

1949 when the family moved to a farm northwest of Bedford. His brother Johnny moved in with Red and his family and the two of

them hauled grain.

In 1962 he owned and operated Red's DX Station in Bedford until the late 1960's. In 1975 Red and Lola moved to Villisca where

he had a metal shop called Millions Metals.

His wife Lola died in 1999 and in 2000 he moved back to Shenandoah until ill health required him to reside at the Bedford Nursing

and Rehab Center.

Red is survived by his son, Bobby E. Million and wife Margaret of Sierra Vista, Arizona; a daughter, Barbara Russell of Bedford;

a brother, Johnny Million and wife Mary of Essex; six grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; one great-greatgrandchild;

and a good friend, Sara; along with many other relatives and friends.

Preceding Red in death were his parents, John and Pearl; his wife Lola in 1999; son-in-law, Lonnie Dean Russell; two brothers, James

Lee "Red" and Orville Lee "Babe" Million; a great-granddaughter, Arika Russell and a great niece, Alexandra Million.

Mudra, Bessie T -

Bessie T. Mudra, 94, of Creston, Iowa died Sunday, May 26, 2002 at Crest Haven Care Center. Services were held June 1 at

Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Creston. Conducting the service were Father Leonard Kenkel and Father John Maier. Interment

was at Calvary Cemetery.

Bessie was born on Feb. 10, 1908 in Creston to Joseph Mudra and Bessie Potter. She graduated from Creston High School, then

she graduated from Northwest University. Bessie was never married. She was a school teacher in Creston and a short time in

Kent. She was a church organist for Holy Spirit Catholic Church for 50-plus years. She taught music in all grades for several years

before she retired in 1973. She is a lifelong resident of Creston.

Bessie was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church; Alter Society; St. Ann's; Catholic Daughter's of America; Greater

Community Hospital Auxiliary; Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority; Retired Teachers Assoc.; CARTA now CARSPA.

Survivors include a nieces Paula Thompson of Oregon and Mary C. Norman of Washington; Cousins Joe Kelley and Liz

Kelley-Walsh, both of Creston; Nephew Pat Mudra of Oregon.

Preceding her in death were her parents; a brother; and a sister-in-law Paul (Rita) Mudra.

Sweeney, George J -

George J. Sweeney of Lenox passed away on Saturday, May 4, at the age of 74.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 7, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Father Dan Siepker officiating. Interment

was at North Fairview Cemetery in Lenox. Coen-Beaty-Pearaon Family Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

George was born April 4, 1928 in Clearfield to Francis B. and Ellen Marie (Leahy) Sweeney.

Survivors include his wife Jean and sons David (wife Joyce) of Lenox and Vincent (wife Deanna) of Lenox.

George was a lifelong resident of Taylor County. He farmed in Taylor County since 1953 and retired in 1998. He was a

member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lenox, the Lenox Gold Club, and the Lenox American Legion. He was an avid

golfer, and it was on the Lenox golf course where he was stricken with heart problems shortly before his death.

Sweeney, George J -

Funeral services for George J Sweeney of Lenox, age 74, were held Tuesday, May 7, at St Patrick's Church with

Father Dan Siepker officiating. Interment was in North Fairview Cemetery in Lenox.

Casket bearers were Mark Dougherty, Randy Samo, Duane Dougherty, Fred Haynes, Glen Norton and Michael Smith. Cantor

was Dara Robinson, and organist was Diane Lange.

Coen-Beary-Pearson Family 7uneral Service was in charge of arrangements.

George passed away on Saturday, May 4, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. He was an avid golfer and was

stricken at the Lenox golf course shortly before his death.

He was born on April 4, 1928, in Clearfield to Francis B. and Ellen Marie (Leahy) Sweeney. He was married on Feb. 27, 1954

to Juanita Mae Ferguson. They had two sons, David and Vincent.

After Juanita's death, he married Jean Roberts on Oct. 3, 1998.

George was a lifetime Taylor County resident and farmed in the county since 1953. He retired in 1998.

He was a member of the Lenox Golf Club, St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lenox, and the Lenox American Legion.

He is survived by his wife Jean; sons David (wife Joyce) Sweeney of Lenox and Vincent (wife Deanna) Sweeney of Lenox;

brothers Bill Sweeney of Creston, Hubert Sweeney of Lenox, and Stephen (wife Sandy) Sweeney of Lenox; sisters Florence

Robinson of Lenox, Maureen (husband Jack) Walton of Las Vegas, Mary (husband Dean) Evans of Dysart, Iowa, Catherine

Rainforth of Lenox, Frances "Fran" (husband Meryl) Meyer of Lincoln, Neb., and Carol Ani (husband Ron) Steininger of

California; nine grandchildren, lour step-grandchildren, and three step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by  his parents; his first wife, Juanita; son, Daniel; brothers-in-law Doyle Robinson and  Gerald

Rainforth; and sister-in-law Marge Sweeney.

Funeral services for Roy Sychra, 78, of Lenox, formerly of Orient, were held Friday, May 31, at Coen-Beaty-Pearson Family

Funeral Service of Creston with Rev. Clark Findhout officiating.

Roy passed away on Monday, May 27, 2002 at the Lenox Care Center. Interment was at Bohemian National Cemetery.

Memorials are established in his name.

Roy Sychra was born on September 5, 1923 to Lewis J. Sychra and Josephine Novy. He graduated from Richland High

School. On April 14, 1945 Roy was united in marriage to Anna LaVerne Beaman at the Greenfield Methodist Church. Roy was

employed by the Adair County Assessor's office.

Survivors include his wife, LaVeme Sychra; children Patricia (husband David) Stream of Lenox, and Judy (husband Chris)

Bailey of Cedar Falls; sons Robert (wife Marcia) Sychra of Washington, Ill., and Donald, (wife Debbie) Sychra of

McDonough, Ga.; sister: Bessie Raasch of Urbandale: a sister-in-law, Delores Sychra of Johnston, Iowa; 12 grandchildren and

three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a twin brother who died at birth; a brother, Ed Sychra; and a brother-in-law,

Norvin Raash.

Tilk, Wayne William -

Funeral services for Wayne Tilk, age 79, of Lenox, were held Saturday, May 18, 2002 at 11:00 am at the Emmanuel Lutheran

Church in Fontanelle. Interment was held in the Greenfield Cemetery in Greenfield. Memorials can be given in Wayne's name.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Lenox. Wayne passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2002

Wayne William Tilk was born May 10, 1923 in Prussia Township, Adair County, Iowa the son of William Tilk and Matilda Hoepner

Tilk. He grew up in the Adair area attending rural schools. Wayne entered the United States Army serving in

World War II as an MP.

After his discharge he returned to the family farm and was united in marriage to Irene Herr on September 18, 1949 in

Fontanelle. The family continued to live on the farm until 1984 when Wayne and Irene moved to an acreage north of Lenox to live

closer to their daughter Jan.

Irene passed away on April 18, 1986 and Wayne continued to live on the acreage until his death.

Wayne lived for farming. Whether it was raising livestock or row crops, he enjoyed it all. He also raised chickens and thought

it necessary to give his boar chewing tobacco every day. He never wanted to live in town, but enjoyed going there to socialize and

catch up on things. He also took farm-fresh eggs into town to sell them for 75 cents a dozen.

His family was most important to him and felt fortunate that most of them lived close. Wayne had been a member of the

Greenfield Lutheran Church at one time.

Left to cherish Wayne's memory art two daughters, Jeanette (Jan) Perdew and husband Olin (Stub) of Conway; and Kathy Erke

and husband Robert of Royal, Arkansas; two sons, Myron Tilk and wife Linda of Osceola, Iowa; and Duane Tilk and wife Allyson of

Stuart, Iowa; a sister, Esther Whetstone of Guthrie Center, Iowa; then grandchildren, Monty, Ashley, Krystal, Megan, Cody, Lori,

Austin, Alana, Chris and Carmen; one great-grandchild, Cory Howard; along with many other relatives and friends.

Preceding Wayne in death are his parents, William and Matilda and his wife Irene in 1986.

Turner, Austin Beecher III -

Austin Turner of Corning, known for his business and civic activities throughout the state, passed away at Iowa Methodist

Medical Center in Des Moines on June 6, 2002, at the age of 72. Services were held Monday, June 10, at First Presbyterian

Church in Corning with Rev. Kenneth Rummer officiating.

Interment was in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Corning. Memorials are to Corning Community Foundation and Corning Alegent Mercy

Hospital Foundation. Coen-Beaty-Pearson Family Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Austin held numerous public and civic offices including chairman of the Iowa Department of Transportation, president of

the Southwestern Community College Board of Trustes, president of the Adams County Economic Development Corp., president of

the University of Iowa National Letterman's Club, and chairman of the Corning Alegent Mercy Hospital Capital Campaign. Other

positions held included Corning City Council, director with the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation, FINE Foundation governing

board, and Corning Municipal Utilities Board of Directors. He was the retired proprietor of Turner's Department Store.

Austin was a member of the Paul Harris Fellow, Coming Rotary Club, Coming Ambassadors, and Corning First Presbyterian

Church. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War and, was a member and letterman on the University of Iowa football

team, 1948-1951.

He was born on June 20, 1929, to Francis A. and LaNor Holmes Turner. He attended Coring Community High School,

Kiski Prep School, and the University of Iowa.

On August 11, 1951, he married Jo Ann Gustafson in Des Moines. Survivors include his wife of Corning; children Austin

Beecher Turner IV (wife Dianna) of Des Moines, Eric Foster Turner (wife Lisa) of Corning; Alec Holmes Turner (wife Nancy)

of Corning; and Betsy Francis Akin (husband Scott) of Corning; a sister, Sarah Turner Hogan of Irving, Texas; and nine grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents.
