Mae Boham Davidson was born October 15, 1923 in
Conway, Iowa. She passed away September 28,
1995
at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Corning, Iowa.
Mildred
married Jesse "Sammy" Davidson on February 16, 1946 in Troy, Kansas.
To this union were
born
two sons: Louis and Lloyd.
Her
lifetime was spent taking care of the duties at home, and being a mother to the
children. Mildred spent
nearly
all of her life in the Lenox area.
Surviving
are her two sons: Louis Davidson of Decatur, Arkansas; and Lloyd
"Pete" Davidson of Lenox; a
sister
Ruth Gowey of Creston.
Preceding
her were her parents, her husband in December of 1994, 1 brother and 2 sisters.

Home for George Donaldson.

George
Orville Donaldson the son of George and Eva Filbert Donaldson was born on May
23, 1927 in Conway, Iowa
and
entered into rest at his home in Lenox at the age of 68 years, 6 months and 23
days. [Died 17 Oct 1995]
George
was raised and attended school in Conway, Iowa. He started working for the Max Hockett family on the
family
farm. In 1963 he went to work for John Deere in Waterloo as a production
worker. He worked for John
Deere
for over 21 years. He then retired and moved back to Lenox.
Surviving
to honor his memory are his brother-in-law, Bill Gillespie of Gladbrook, Iowa;
Special Friends Faye
Hockett of Lenox, Harlan and Dan Hockett of Des Moines.
Preceding
him in death are his parents, George and Eva Donaldson and a sister, Wilma
Gillespie.
A
memorial has been established for the Lenox Ambulance Service.
Interment
was in the East Fairview Cemetery in Lenox.

Veldeva Fonner, 79 years, of Sidell,
died on Nov. 5, 1995 at 11:45 a.m.
She
was born March 31, 1916, the daughter of Andrew and Lula Stoaks in Shenandoah. She graduated
from
Lenox High School in 1933 and attended Grand Island, Neb. business college.
She
worked as a secretary-bookkeeper for Miller Chevrolet in Lenox after attending
GMAC school in Des
Moines.
She worked at Social Security in Baltimore, Md. and Washington D.C., then
transferred
to
the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture in Ames, Iowa.
She
was married to Dr. Frank Bartley on Jan. 17, 1942 in Maryville, Mo., and later
married Willie Fonner
of Sidell in December 1960. He preceded her in death in 1985.
She
worked at Sugar Creek Creamery in Danville, Ill. and was later employed as manager
of the Champaign
Loan
and Building Danville Office, retiring in 1982.
Veldeva was active in the American Legion Auxiliary serving as President of Sidell Unit #530, President of
Vermilion
County Council and President of the 18th District.
She
was a volunteer at the Danville VA Hospital, receiving a certificate for 5000
hours.
Graveside
services were held at Woodlawn Cemetery, Indianola, on Nov. 8. Joines Funeral Home of
Sidell was in charge of arrangements. Memorials to Habitat for Humanity.

Heumphreus, Robert Glen -
Robert
Glen Heumphreus was the son of Harold K. and Mabel
Cain Heumphreus and was born on April 14, 1920 in
College
Springs, Iowa. He died at Clarinda Memorial Hospital in Clarinda on Dec. 12,
1995.
Bob
was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Mabel, and brothers Harold and
Raymond.
He
will be remembered by his wife, Lois; brothers Donald and Ferrell; sister Mabel;
many nephews and nieces, great
nephews
and nieces, and two great-great nephews.
Bob
served as a Master Sergeant in the 34th Division, 169th Infantry in World War
II with all four of his brother. He
served
6 1/2 years, with three of those years overseas.
Bob
and Lois Marie Parks were married on July 3, 1948, in Clarinda. Bob was a
lineman for the Iowa Power and Light
in
Clarinda.
In
1953, Bob and Lois moved to California, where Bob was a lineman for San Diego
Gas and Electric for 25 years.
After
retiring, Bob and Lois lived in Wichita and St. Louis running a public storage
business.
While
in San Diego, Bob was in the San Diego Bowling Association. After moving to
Bedford, he joined the country
club
and was an avid golfer. He was also on
the O'Hara's bowling team. He enjoyed bowling, golf, flowers and
gardening,
repairing things and visiting.
He
was a member of the American Veterans and American Legion.
Services
were Dec. 16 at the Novinger-Taylor Funeral Home of Bedford. Interment was in
the Washington
Cemetery,
Gravity.

Thirza Juanita Drorbaugh Hucke was
born April 28, 1907 in Union County to Harry and
Elizabeth Seamans Drorbaugh and

Home in Clarinda, Iowa at the age of 88 years, 6 months and 26 days.
Thirza attended Kent and Lenox schools and graduated from Lenox High School in 1925.
On
February 11, 1928 she was united in marriage with Dayton H. Hucke at her parents
home
in rural Kent.
This
union was blessed with the birth of a daughter, Marilyn.
She was a member of the Stringtown church. She loved flowers, cooking and sewing. She
was
also a charter member of the G.C.W. Club of rural Kent.
Surviving
to honor her memory are her daughter, Marilyn and husband Donald E. Erickson
of
Essex, Iowa; three grandsons, Brian Erickson, Brent and wife Angela Erickson
and
Brice
Erickson all of Essex; two great grandchildren, Ashlee and Tanner Erickson; two
sisters,
Leota Hall of Denison, Iowa and Betty Wilson of Corning, Iowa; sister-in-law Marjorie
Drorbaugh of Creston, Iowa; and a brother and sister-in-law, Lyle and Ila Eivins of Creston,
Iowa.

Funeral
services for James E. "Judge" Hughes, a prominent Lenox resident and
retired Iowa District Court
judge,
will be held Saturday, Dec. 9, 10:30 a.m. at the Lenox Presbyterian Church.
Judge
Hughes died at Chandler Regional Hospital in Chandler, Ariz., on Sunday, Dec.
3, at the age of 83. He
and
his wife Marian had been in their Sun City, Ariz,
winter home for about one month before his death.
Visitation
will be at Coen-Beaty Funeral Home in Lenox on
Friday, Dec. 8, 7-8 p.m.
Judge
Hughes was a lifelong resident of Lenox. He was born in Lenox on Oct. 19, 1912,
to Jay Edward and Sarah
Ozella (Madden) Hughes.
After
graduating from the University of Iowa Law School in 1937, he was an attorney
and a Judge for the Iowa
District
Court. He retired in 1982.

include his wife, Marian of Lenox; children Kathy (Mrs. Mike) Azinger of Ft. Madison, Iowa, Mary (Mrs.
Garland)
Walter of Lenox, Peggy (Mrs. David) Tripp of Kent, and step-sons Judge Patrick

He
was preceded in death by a daughter, Jeanne Bush, and his first wife,
Genevieve.

Hughes,
James Edmund -
James
Edmund Hughes, the only child of Jay E. and Sarah Madden Hughes, was born
October 19, 1912 in Lenox. He passed away Dec. 3,
1995
at Chandler Regional Hospital in Chandelor, Ariz., at
the age of 83 years, 1 month, and 14 days.
He
grew up in the Lenox area and graduated from Lenox High School in 1930. While
attending Creston Junior College he worked as
an
elevator operator in the Iowan Hotel. During his school years, he and several
of his friends formed a band called the "Red Jackets" and performed
for dances throughout the area.
He
then attended the University of Iowa, receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree in
1934, and then received his jurist doctorate degree from there in 1937. That
was the same year he was admitted to the Iowa Bar Association.
Upon
completion of law school he and Genevieve Maharry (also of Lenox) were married at Redfield, Iowa on August 21, 1937.
He
then went to work for Employees Mutual of Wausau, Wis. as a claims adjuster.
After being admitted to the Michigan Bar Association, he was a claims attorney
in Detroit for 10 years until 1947, when they returned to Lenox.
He
opened his own law practice, brought in Richard Wilson as an associate in 1964,
and served as city attorney until July 1965 when Governor Harold Hughes
appointed him as a district court judge.
In
March 1967, after nearly 30 years of marriage, Genevieve died from cancer.
On
January 31, 1970 he married Marian Maloy Carr of Mt. Ayr. They made their home in Lenox and in Arizona and were privileged
to
celebrate
their 25th anniversary this year.
He
continued as a district court judge until his formal retirement in 1982.
He
received many honors over the years, including a member of the Iowa Bar
Association and a Member of the Executive Committee of
the
National Conference of State Judges. He was the president of the Iowa Judges
Association. He served on the Lenox Development Corp. and was a member of
Rotary and the Masonic order. He was instrumental in the development of Lenox
and was a strong believer in the town.
He
always liked to hunt and fish but in more recent years his greatest love was
golf. He was looking forward to playing the new golf course and watched its
progress daily from their home near the country club. He loved music and was
continually working to master his computer. He enjoyed life even with the
limitations caused by his failing health.
Preceding
him in death were his parents; his first wife Genevieve; and his oldest
daughter Jeanne (Mrs. Phil Bush) of California who passed away in 1972.
Survivors
include his wife Marian; 3 daughters, Mary (Mrs. Garland) Walter of Lenox,
Kathy (Mrs. Mike) Azinger of Fort Madison, and
Peggy
(Mrs. David) Tripp of Kent; three step-sons, Patrick (wife Sue) Carr of
Spencer, Michael (wife Nancy) Carr of Minneapolis, Minn., and Joseph (Wife
Vicki ) of Fairfield; 19 grandchildren, Mike and Keri Bush and Steve Bush of
Huntington Beach, Calif., and Lynda Bush of Orange, Calif., and their step
brother Nick Janik, Suzi and Chad Bonnett of Bellevue, Neb., Joni and Craig Habel of Des Moines, Debbie Walter of Ames and Carrie
Walter of Lenox, Chris and Josh Azinger of Fort
Madison, Amanda Tripp of Normal, Ill., Sarah

of Iowa City, Jake and Charlie Tripp of Kent, Ed and Dave Carr of Spencer,

Church with Rev. Tim Maxa and Father Dan Siepker officiating. Visitation was held Friday evening at Coen-Beaty Funeral Home in Lenox. Interment was in the East
Fairview Cemetery.
Serving
as pallbearers were Richard Notz, Vernal Thompson,
Richard Wilson, Win Tyler, Fred Woolley, and Dennis Bunch. Roberta
Lockhart
was organist and Kathleen Taylor was soloist.
A

Vernon
William Lantz, son of Walter H. and Etta May Lantz was born at Tabor, Iowa on
May 31, 1909

departed this life on November 16, 1995 at the Greater Community Hospital in
Creston.
His
entire life was spent in Blockton, Redding and Lenox
except for three years when he lived in
California. He was an employee of Ringgold county for 29
years.
On
December 20, 1933 he was united in marriage with Lorene Norris and to this
union they were
blessed
with two daughters, Loretta Ann and Ila Jean.
In
1940 he accepted Christ as his personal Savior and became a member of the
Assembly of God church of
which
he was faithful to his calling as a Sunday school teacher for many years.
He
was preceded in death his parents, Walter and Etta May; wife Lorene; two
brothers, Raymond and
Gaylord;
three sisters Wilma Lantz, Stella Ewart, and Elsie
Matheny; and one great granddaughter Cynthia
Marshall.
Left
to cherish his memory are his daughters, Ann and husband Don Cordell of
Fremont, Neb. and Ila and
husband
Elmer Livingston of Corwith, Iowa; many grand and
step grandchildren, other family members and
a
very special friend Darlene Winslow.
Vernon

Robert
Vaughn Parrish, son of Samuel and Bertha Cochran Parrish, was born on Feb. 27,
1926 at St. Joseph,
Mo.,
and departed this life on Nov. 3, 1995 at the Clearview Home at the age of 69.
Due
to his mother's death, he was raised from infancy by his Uncle and Aunt, Earl
and Iva Cochran. Except
for
the last seven months, Bob lived his entire life at his home place north of
Clearfield.
Bob
graduated from Clearfield High School in 1943. On June 9, 1944 he was married
to Dorothy Bruner.
Bob
and Dorothy were blessed with seven children: Bill, Dixie, Diana, Debra, James,
John, and David.
Bob's
pride and joy were his family and farming with John Deere equipment. He found
great joy in teaching his
children
the values of life and farming. Bob was a faithful member of the Clearfield
United Methodist Church.
He
was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star and Noble Lodge # 458.
Bob
was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Bertha; his aunt and uncle, Iva
and Earl; two brothers-in-law,
Richard
Larsen and Willis Pennington.
Bob
is survived by his wife Dorothy, his family of seven children, 23
grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren:

Smith, Violet Ruth Hargis -
Violet
Ruth Smith was born December 30, 1907 in Coffee County, Kansas, the daughter of
Melvin and Hattie Hughes Harris. She graduated from New Market High School in
the Class of 1927.
On
June 6, 1928, she was united in marriage to Harold Smith in Clarinda, Iowa, by
Pastor D. H. Shenton, with Keith Harris and Velma
Jones as attendants. Born to this union was a son Gary and a daughter Naomi
Jean.
Harold
was a butter maker and Ruth a housewife. Harold's job working for creameries
kept them moving. They lived in Afton, Winterset, Bethany, Mo., and finally to Stringtown.
Harold
and Ruth were baptized together on December 20, 1940 at the First Christian
Church in Bethany, Missouri.
Following
their move to Stringtown, they ran the Stringtown Store from 1943 to 1947. Then they moved to the
Grace Roberts farm (Harold's aunt) which is where Ruth continued to live until
she entered the Lenox Care Center in March 1993.
Ruth
was member of the Stringtown Church and the Ladies
Aid. She was a faithful blood donor to the Red Cross blood drive.
Ruth
worked for a short time at the Stringtown Cafe.
Ruth
died December 8, 1995 at the Lenox Care Center at the age of 87 years, 11
months, and 8 days.
Preceding
her in death were her parents; her husband Harold in 1958; daughter Norma Jean
in infancy, son Gary in 1977; brothers; Lyle
Hargis,
Keith Hargis, and Muriel Hargis; sisters; Marie Wilcox, Veralena Coulter, and Dorothy Brown.
Survivors
include a daughter-in-law Betty Jean Smith of Lenox; grandchildren Jace Smith and his wife Mona of Colorado, Kimberly
Dingeman and her husband Doug of Ankeny, Brenda Robison and her husband Tracy of Prescott, and Blase Smith of Maryville, Mo.; Great

services were held Monday, Dec. 11 at 1:00 p.m. at the Stringtown Church with Revs. Roy Cook and Elmer West officiating. Open visitation was held
Sunday at Coen-Beaty Funeral Home in Lenox.
Serving
as pallbearers were Blase Smith, Doug Dingeman, Tracy Robison, Dale Shepherd and Edwin Ramsey.
Erma
Fuller provided music. Interment was in the Memory Cemetery at New Market.

Services
for Richard Spurrier were held Friday October 27,
1995 at the Christian Church in Clearfield.
Officiating

Mrs. Gary Bickers, and Mrs. Ben Knapp.
Casket

Richard
Lee Spurrier began his life on July 28, 1937, when he
was born to R. E. and Fern Shaffer Spurrier in
Clearfield.
He passed away unexpectedly on October 21, 1995 while visiting his son and
family in Costa Mesa, Calif.
Rich
grew up in his hometown of Clearfield and lived his entire life in the
community. At the age of 14 Rich
began
working at the Spurrier Service Station, a business
purchased by his grandfather, Albert Spurrier and
later
operated by his father, R.E.
After
graduating from Clearfield High School, Rich continued working in the family
station business.
Three
years later he met Mary Ellen Leach and on June 7, 1959 they were married at
the Clearfield Christian Church.
Rich
and Mary Ellen were blessed with two sons, Richard Cory and Clinton Lee.
In
1971 Rich bought the station's bulk plant and tank wagon business from R.E. In
the years that followed, he
expanded
into the gas transportation business. After many years of hard work building
this successful business,
Rich's
later years found him spending more time enjoying the most important part of
his life - his family.
Thanks
to the dedicated work of his trusted employee Cindy Campbell, Rich was able to
visit his sons and their
families
often in California and Sioux City.
Rich
was preceded in death by his father, R.E., and brother, John Paul, both of
Clearfield, and his father-in-law
Harry
(Pete) Leach of Lenox.
Survivors
include his wife Mary Ellen; his eldest son, Cory, and his wife Paula and
daughter Kylie of Costa Mesa,
Calif.;
his youngest son, Clint, and his wife Kris, sons Jakob and Caleb, and daughter Jazmine of Sioux City, Iowa;
mother
Fern of Clearfield; brother Dean (Curley) Spurrier with his wife Brenda of Clearfield; and his mother-in-law
Gladys
Leach of Lenox; as well as his other relatives, his many friends and his
community.

Raymond Stoaks, 88, a former Lenox resident, died November
21, 1995 at his home in Ames, Iowa.
Graveside
and burial service were held at the Story Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Ames,
November 25. The Rev.
Michael
Lapp officiated.
Raymond
Lee Stoaks, oldest son of Fred A. and Estella Atkin Stoaks was born Feb. 17,
1907 in Adams county
in
the Stringtown community.
He
spent his boyhood days on the farm where he was born and attended schools in
Grant township.
On
October 15, 1926 he married Glenna Haas to this union seven children were
born. He was employed at the
Lenox
Municipal Light and Power Plant while in Lenox.
In
1937 they moved to Ames, Iowa. Glenna preceded him in death on April 13, 1944.
Ray was employed at the
Water
Plant and was maintenance supervisor at the college in Ames. In 1950 he married
Mildred Clark of
Ames.
After retirement, Ray was the children's school crossing guardian, as long as
his health permitted.
Survivors
are his wife, Mildred of Ames; three sons, Harlan (wife Marguerete)
of Orangeville, Cal., Larry (wife
Nancy)
Longmont, Colo., and Max (wife Karen) of Colfax, Iowa; and three daughters Phyliss (husband Tommy)
Williams
of Collins, Iowa, Helen Stoaks of Santa Clare, Cal.,

him in death were his parents, son Leo Eugene in 1975, one grandson Dean
Williams in 1984 and
four
brothers, Lyle, Cleo, Rex, and Max, a sister-in-law Bernice Stoaks.

Lester Orman -
Funeral
services for Lester Orman West were held Tuesday,
October 3, 1995 at the Salem Church of the
Brethren.
Officiating
the services was Rev. Roy Cook, Rev. Richard Queener,
and Rev. Elmer West. Music was
provided
by Erman Fuller, pianist and Ronnie Rogers and Lee
West, vocalist.
Casket
bearers were Larry West, Gary West, Randy Cook, Jim Rychnovsky,
Paul Vendevender, and Dan
Sullivan.
Honorary
Bearers were Tade Knapp, Ron Peauler,
Ralph Tallman, Frank Tallman, Wayne Green, Andrew
Rychnovsky,
Raymond Bissell, Dale Walter, Stan Smisek, and Paul
Gray.
Lester Orman West was born January 12, 1910 in Adams County,
Iowa the son of Clarence and Elsie Rogers
West
and entered into rest at the Greater Community Hospital in Creston, Iowa on
September 30, 1995 at
the
age of 85 years, 8 months, and 18 days.
Lester
lived in Prescott all of his life. Upon graduating from the Prescott
Consolidated School in 1929 he
became
a lineman for the Prescott Telephone Company.
On
September 17, 1935 he was united in marriage with Cecile Marie Dotson. They were
united in marriage by
Lester's
brother-in-law Rev. Frances Shenefelt in Polo,
Illinois.
After
Lester and Cecile were married they moved to the farm they purchased. Lester
spent his days raising
row
crops and livestock and became known as the neighborhood repair shop.
He
was an active member of the Salem Church of the Brethren, was the treasurer for
over 20 years and also a
Sunday
School teacher. He served as Union Townships Clerk and on the Union Township
Election Board.
When
the Bloodmobile was started, Lester was there every time donating blood.
He
is survived by his wife: Cecile West of Prescott, daughter: Janice (husband
David) Hart of Omaha,
Nebraska,
son: Dean (wife Marky) West of Prescott, Donna West
of Corning the Mother of Grandson Gary,
(wife
Shelly) West of Prescott, Larry (wife Angie) of Creston and granddaughter Joni
(husband Randy) Cook of
Creston,
Daniel Maurice Sullivan of Omaha, Nebraska, the Father of granddaughters:
Melanie Sullivan of Omaha,
Nebraska
and Julie Sullivan of Buffalo, 8 great grandchildren: Cory, Sandy, Jan, Travis,
Michael, Ashley, Brian and
Ryan;
sister Hazel (husband Bob) of Polo, Illinois; brother-in-law; Roy Dotson of
Sacramento, California; sister-in-
laws
Mamie Jarboe of Lincoln, Nebraska and Ruth Dotson of
Corning as well as many nieces and nephews.
Preceding
him in death are his parents and a sister.
Interment
was at the Salem Church Cemetery.

& Shelley Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
