Benson, Alfred Ellsworth -
Alfred
Ellsworth Benson of El Cajon, California passed away February 2, 1993.
Mr.
Benson was born January 17, 1911 in Lenox, Iowa. His parents were George
"Zee" and Bessie Baker Benson. "Eldie",
as he was
known
then, was one of ten children, five of whom preceded him in death. They are
Raymond, Lloyd, Melvin, Aleva and Thelma.
Eldie left Lenox in the late 1930's, spending the rest of his life in California.
After moving to El Cajon, he owned and operated West Market on Main Street, was
a volunteer fireman, and in 1948 joined the El Cajon police force, which
consisted of five officers.
When
he retired 21 years later, El Cajon had more than 100 officers.
Bennie
was a former member of El Cajon Toastmasters and an honorary life member of the
El Cajon Elks Lodge 1812. He was
named
Elk of the Year for 1983-4. He also founded Little League in El Cajon in 1950,
coaching and managing the young ball players.
Mr.
Benson was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Ann Wagner of Escondido,
and a grandson, Daniel Alfred Benson of
Escondido.
Survivors
include his wife, Emma; two daughters, Kathleen Louise Benson of Spartanburg,
S. C., and Barbara Kamm of Escondido; a
son,
Douglas George Benson of Alpine, Ca.; two brothers, Sevy of North Hills and Jack of Downey, 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Funeral
services were held on February 5, 1993 at the El Cajon Mortuary Chapel. Burial
was in Mt. Hope Cemetery in San Diego, Calif.

services for Hubert H. Bradley, Sr. were held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church
in Lenox on Monday, April 19, with Rev. John
Bertogli officiating. Music was provided by Florence Robinson and Diane Lange, and Lector
was Norbert Bradley.
Mary
Lynn Bradley, Sarah Bradley, Lisa Beaman and Kathrine Stracker were in charge
of gifts.
Serving
as casket bearers were Grandsons Robert, Scott and Shawn Bradley; Gary
Longfellow, Chad Beaman, Jason Roewert;
Mark, Troy

Horace
Hamlin Brown was born July 23, 1908 in Taylor County, Iowa, to William and
Clarissa Hamlin Brown. Horace passed away
March
15, 1993 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. He was 84 years, 7 months, and 20
days.
Horace
spent 29 years working as a salesman for Belltone Hearing Service in Des Moines. He enjoyed the people he worked with and the
field
he was in. Retirement came in 1972 and a move beck to Lenox in 1973. During his
"retirement" he took a position with the Lenox Care Center as
janitor/maintenance man. He soon became reacquainted with many folks from his
home area.
H.H.
leaves his wife Lillian to mourn. Also, surviving are his two sons by previous
marriages: James F. (Tess) Brown of Los Angeles;
H.
Van (Karen) Brown of West Des Moines; two stepdaughters: Wanda L. (Marvin)
Jensen, of Des Moines; and Mary Alice Gage of Conoga Park, CA; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Other
relatives surviving are his sisters: Opal (Irven) Weeda, Mattie Hays, Jessie (Archie) Colter,
and brother Dale Brown.
Funeral
services were held March 19, 1993 at 2:00 PM, at Coen-Beaty Funeral Home, Lenox, with Les Calhoun officiating.
Interment
is West Fairview Cemetery, Lenox, Iowa.

Claude
Wesley Hogue, son of Hubbard H. and Ida Belle Journey Hogue, was born October
3, 1928, at Tarkio, Missouri. He died January 16, 1993, at his farm home west
of Clearfield. He was 64 years of age.
He
came to Taylor County with his parents as a young child and attended rural
school.
On
June 25, 1949, he was married to Beverly Ann Barker at Bedford, Iowa. Six
children came to bless this union.
Claude
worked as an electrical lineman and also as a farmer. They had lived on their present farm since
1972.
Claude
is survived by his wife Beverly: his six children: Rick and wife Delma of Susanville, Cal.; Mark and wife Gaylene of Weeping Water. Ne.: Debbie & husband Roger Walley of Las Vegas, Nv.; Randy
Hogue & his fiance Karla of Clearfield; Matt
& wife Colleen of Lenox; Chris & husband Stony Hinshaw of Clearfield; 12 grandchildren; one adopted grandson; six step grandchildren;

Nellie
Leona Kerns Huber was born February 3, 1897, at Stockton, Missouri, and died
March 3, 1993 at the age of 96 years and one month at the Lenox Care Center in
Lenox, Iowa. She was one of 11 children of Joe and' Carrie Barton Kerns.
Nellie
married Earnest Huber in Gravity, Iowa, on November 10, 1915. To this union
were born 7 children: Opal, Duane, Darrell, Cecil,
Helen,
Wauneta and Dale. Nellie and Earnest farmed near Sharpsburg and also near
Diagonal before moving into Diagonal and then to the
Lenox
Care Center.
Nellie
was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Darrell, one daughter,
Wauneta, two sons-in-law, Vernon Day and Virgil Beamon,
one daughter-in-law, Thelma Huber, and four grandchildren.
Survivors
include a brother, Harold Kerns and his wife Maureen of Lenox; her children:
Opal Day of Gravity, Iowa, Duane of Lenox, Iowa, Cecil and his wife Margaret of
Helena, Missouri, Helen and her husband Richard Volbrech of Omaha, Nebraska, and Dale
and
his wife Rebecca of Creston, Iowa. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren, 37
great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren and a son-in-law Leonard Cracraft of Ridgeway, Missouri, and a daughter-in-law
Gladys Gose of Lenox, Iowa.
Funeral
services were held 2:00 p.m., Sunday, March 7, 1993, at Wilson-Watson Funeral
Home, Clearfield, Iowa, with Rev. Eydie
Stephens
officiating. Interment at Clearfield Cemetery, Clearfield, Iowa.

Thelma
Louise Huber, daughter of Clarence and Daisy Trent Day, was born October 7,
1922, in Hamilton County Iowa. She died March 1, 1993, at University Hospital
in Iowa City after a long illness with kidney failure.
She
grew up in the Clearfield area attended Clearfield Schools, graduating in 1940.
She
was married to Duane Huber on November 10, 1942, in Kansas City, Missouri, while
he was on leave from military service.
Five
sons were born to this union. They moved to Lenox in 1947 and Thelma became
active in the community. She was a member of the Christian Church, the Legion
Auxiliary, (serving as District President) member of Ladies in Blue, and a
volunteer at the Lenox Care
Center
and the Taylor County Care Facility.
She
was preceded in death by her parents, a son Robert Eugene in 1967, and brother
Vernon Day in 1976. Survivors include her husband Duane of Lenox; 4 sons: Louis
of Las Vegas, Nev.; Harold, David and Kenneth of Lenox; 6 grandchildren; 2
great grandchildren; 3 brothers: Leland, Donald and Darwin Day all of Kansas
City, Mo.; sister Lila Huntsman of Mt. Ayr; many
nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral
services were Thursday, March 4, 1993, 1:30 p.m. at the First Christian Church
of Lenox.

H. Keith, 85, of Brighton, Co. died January 30, 1993 in Brighton, Co. Mr. Keith
was born August 7, 1907 in Butler, Ok.
He
married Gladys Reed, she died in January 1979, then he married Hallie Adams. He was a custodian for Brighton Schools, he
belonged
to Oddfellows Lodge #100 of Ft. Lupton, the First
Christian Church of Brighton, enjoyed spending time with his
grandchildren
and stepgrandchildren and enjoyed shoe repair.
He
is survived by his wife, Hallie Keith of Brighton,
Co., two sons; Dale Keith and Daryl Keith of Brighton, Co., two sisters; Goldie
Skinner of Kansas and May Hoyt of Corning, Iowa, one brother; Cecil Keith of
Brighton, Co., two step daughters; Ramona
Holmes
of Iowa and Diane Gelder of Washington, one step son;
Stanley Basore of California, four grandchildren two
great
grandchildren
and numerous step grand and great grandchildren.
Services

Wilbur
Lewis Kite, the son of Noah Rice and Julia Marie Gilbertson Kite, was born near
Craig, Missouri on August 3, 1911; and he entered
into
rest at the Mercy Hospital in Corning, Iowa on February 1, 1993 at the age of
81 years, 6 months and 28 days.
Wilbur
grew up on a farm and attended country school in the Craig community. He later
came to Iowa in 1924 and worked at different
occupations.
In
December of 1933 he was united in marriage with Hazel Woodyard of Gravity, Iowa. No children were born to this union, and Hazel preceded him
in death on December 18, 1985. He was also preceded in death by his parents,
one brother, Howard; and by two
sisters:
Irene Brown and Edna Mae Prawl.
Wilbur
served his country in the United States Army Air Force in the Pacific during
World War II. Following his discharge, he took up the greenhouse and nursery business
and operated the countryside Greenhouse in Clarinda for 35 years. Even since
retiring 13 years ago he continued to enjoy gardening.
He
joined the Baptist Church in 1941 and later joined the Church of the Nazarene.
He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans and Parkinson Post #250
of the American Legion in Lenox, Iowa.
He
is survived by two nephews: Kenneth Kite & wife Severely of Roosevelt,
Washington; and Leland Ballenger & wife Frances Mae
of
St. Joseph, Mo.; by three nieces: Sara Goude of
Hooper, Washington; Joyce Stardale of Washtucna, Washington; and Jean Swope & husband Herb of
Belle Vista, Arkansas. Also surviving are his very special friend who was very
"Precious" to him, Betty Case of Lenox,
Iowa;
and her family.

were Wednesday, February 3, 1993, 10:00 a.m., at the Larkin & Johnson
Funeral Home of Lenox, officiated by Rev. Elmer West. [Burial Craig, Holt Co.

Leah
C. McIntyre was born the daughter of Christian and Kate Wurster Eberle on August 14, 1906 and entered into rest at
Greater
Community
Hospital on March 27, 1993 at the age of 86 years, 7 months and 13 days.
Leah
was born and raised in the Lenox area. She attended the Lenox school and was a
country school teacher, later going to California to
work
where she met and married James Mclntyre a native of
Scotland on December 22, 1955. They resided in California for a time
before
returning to Lenox, where they helped to manage the farms, Hotel and White Way
Cafe with her sister Georgia.
"Mac"
and Leah opened a nursery school in their home in Lenox. They enjoyed teaching
and caring for the children.
Leah
was a caring, loving person who was always helping people who were in need.
Surviving
to cherish her memory are two sisters Georgia Eberle of Lenox; and Wilma Gosch of Wall Lake, Iowa.
She
was preceded in death by her husband James; her parents; a sister Regina, twin
brothers Carl and Kenny and a brother Frank.
Services
were held Wednesday, March 13, 1993, at 2:00 o'clock p.m. at the United
Presbyterian Church, Lenox, Iowa, officiated by Rev. Elmer West.
Interment
will be private at a later date. Memorials will go to the Lenox Library.

Ivan
Edward Moler was born at Grant City, Missouri to
Elmer and Mary Roach Moler on August 20, 1926. His
home has been the Taylor County Care Facility since August 1951. Before that he
was a resident of the Glenwood School in Glenwood, Iowa, since he was 9 years
old.
Ivan
was baptized in 1974 at the Gravity Christian Church. This meant so much to
him. He never missed a chance to attend church and
take
part in the bell choir. He loved having visitors, going out shopping and
eating, school and Cubs baseball; but above all he loved family.
Ivan
was preceded in death by his grandparents, his parents, two brothers; Lloyd
Francis Moler and Bennie Lee Moler and a sister Freida Woollums.
He
is survived by his brother Charles Martin Moler of
Dixon, Missouri, half-sister Edith Nieman of St.
James, Missouri, sister-in-law Lucille Moler of
Mediapolis, Iowa and brothers-in-law Marvin Woollums of Mount Ayr, Iowa and Charles Nieman of St. James, Missouri. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who Ivan
was very proud of.
Funeral
services were held at Wilson-Watson Funeral Home, Mount Ayr,
Iowa, Monday March 15, at 2:00 o'clock p.m. Ivan was laid to rest at Redding
Cemetery, Redding, Iowa.

O. Nelson, son of Leeman and Ethel Williams Nelson,
was born August 22, 1928, in Adams County, Iowa.
He
died at his home in Lenox on January 22, 1993, at the age of 64 years and 5 months.

Monday, January 25, 1993 at First Christian Church in Lenox, Iowa. Officiating
Rev. Robert L Pickerell. Casket

Dale
grew up on the farm, helping with the farm chores and the field work. He
attended school at Taylor County #4.
On
November 18, 1956, he married Helen A. Stream in Lenox. One daughter Kim came
to bless this union.
Dale
drove a truck and worked for the Adams County Road Maintainance Crew for many years, retiring in May of 1992.
Two
of the most special events in Dale's life were the arrival of his daughter Kim
and the delivery of his granddaughter
Keatyn.
Dale
is survived by his wife Helen of Lenox; his daughter Kim Bihrer and granddaughter Keatyn Bihrer of Orange City, Iowa; his
mother:
Ethel Nelson of Lenox; two brothers: George and wife Barbara of Sharpsburg;
Ronnie and wife Madeline of
Clearfield;
two sisters: Betty Yount of Osceola; Lela and husband
Paul Duke of Oregon; sister-in-law: Irene Nelson of
Lenox;
his mother-in-law: Dorothy Stream of Lenox; and many other relatives and
friends.
Dale
was preceded in death by his father Leeman Nelson;
five brothers: Lyle and Marvin and 3 as infants; and
two
brothers-in-law: Elmer Barker and Duane Yount: and
his son-in-law Steven Bihrer.
He
will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Interment
was at the North Fairview Cemetery, Lenox, Iowa.

Alice
Reynolds, 78, Grain Valley, died Wednesday, March 31, 1993, in St. Mary's
Manor, Blue Springs. [Born 13 May, 1914]
Mrs.
Reynolds was born in Kent, Iowa, and lived in Lenox, Iowa before moving to this
area in the 1940s. She also lived in Crown Point, Ind. She was a charter member
of the Lakes of the Four Seasons United Methodist Church, Crown Point.
Her
survivors include her husband, Robert M. Reynolds of the home; four sons, Larry
Reynolds, Raytown, Wayne Reynolds, Nokesville, Va., Mark Reynolds, Grain
Valley, and James Reynolds, Manitou Springs, Colo.; a daughter. Carolyn Leone,
Santa Cruz, Calif; two sisters, Ruby Bush, Longmont,
Colo., and Dorothy Pershing, Creston, Iowa; eight grandchildren; and four greatgrandchildren.
Services
were at 1 pm Thursday at the Lenox, Iowa United Methodist Church.
Burial at the Fairview Cemetery, Lenox.

She
was preceded in death by her parents; husband O.D. Tyler in 1990; sister Maxine
(Mrs. William) Evans; and a brother, Wayne Lamb.
Gladys
Wilma Tyler, the daughter of Walter Thompson Lamb and Mary Mayme Johnson, was born May 3, 1907, on a farm near Stuart,
Iowa,
and died April 22, 1993, in Lenox.
Her
parents farmed, and during her childhood they lived near Stuart before moving
to Grant Township south of Creston. When the Lamb girls began high school, the
family moved into Creston.
Gladys
graduated from high school at age 16 and attended the University of Nebraska in
Lincoln after working a year in Creston. She
was
a member of the University Women's Octet.
Gladys
and O.D. "Don" Tyler were married secretly April 2, 1927, in
Glenwood, Iowa, but she returned to Lincoln to finish her year
there.
In June she and Don began their married life in Lenox and enjoyed 63 years
together.
For
65 years Gladys lived in the house Don's grandfather built in 1895. She worked many
hours with Don in the drug store. During World War II she taught knitting to
make garments for the soldiers.
The
beginning of a library for Lenox in 1941 was of great importance to Gladys. She
was honored for her many years of library service in December 1992.
Many
hours were spent helping her children learn to play the piano. In addition to
knitting, she enjoyed sewing, bridge, her garden and roses, and traveling. She
played golf until she was 83 years of age.
Gladys
was a 67 year member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority and a 64-year member of
Chapter IW, P.E.O. She was a member of many other organizations and was a
member of the United Presbyterian Church in Lenox.

John Otto Wagner, 80, of Lenox and formerly of Ottumwa died April 10, 1993 at
4:20 p.m. at the Lenox Care Center.
He
was born April 29, 1912 in Ottumwa to Arthur and Doshia Crockett Wagner. He married Mary Moss.
He
worked at John Morrell & Co. until 1954 when he went into the ministry. He
was a pastor for the Church of the Brethren, serving in
Garrison,
Lenox, Mt. Etna, Marshalltown, and Waterloo.
He
is survived by his wife; a son, Rev. John Wagner II of Mount Airy, N.C.; 3
daughters, Mildred Henak of Coon Rapids, Betty Button
and Mary Beth Hildebrand both of Nixa, MO; 7 grandchildren; and a brother,
Edward.
He
was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers; and a sister.
Services
were held Thursday, April 15, 1993, at the Johnson Funeral Chapel, Ottumwa,
Iowa, with the Rev John Wagner officiating. Burial at the Shaul Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bob Moss, Brant Sutton, Jack Wagner, James R.
Wagner, Terry Sutton, and Robert
Henak.
A
memorial has been established and may be left at the funeral chapel.
