the Clarinda Regional Health Center were held Friday, November 24 ,2006 at 10:30 a.m. at

the First Baptist Church in Bedford. Interment was held in the Fairview Cemetery in Bedford.

Memorials can be directed to the First Baptist Church, the Taylor County Museum or the

Bedford Library Elevator Fund. Memories can be shared with the family on our web site

at www.ritehiefuneralhome.com under Obituaries. Arrangements were entrusted to the

Ritchie Funeral Home of Bedford,

Naomi Ruth Hanshaw Clark was born in Bedford, Iowa on June 7, 1925, the daughter of

Catherine Rebecca Walker Hanshaw and Carr Clifton Hanshaw. She died in Clarinda, Iowa

on November 19, 2006.

Her family lived on West Main Street from where she walked to school in Bedford and

graduated from high school there in 1943. Her school days were during the Depression of

the '30s and the World War II years of the '40s. Her class had no yearbook because of

the paper shortage, no class trip due to fuel and tire shortages, and Bedford's first

black-out, part of an air raid drill, occurred during their commencement. In high school

Ruth, who was a lifelong pianist, was also active in glee club, band and orchestra. In 1944

she was the Taylor County War Bond Queen, for which the prize was a lavish week-end

trip to Des Moines with other County Queens. During those war years a trip to Des

Moines was an unusual treat.

On March 6, 1945 Ruth was married to Howard Reed Clark (Shorty) in Wathena,

Kansas. Three children were born to the couple: Cathy Lou, November 27, 1948;

Brent D., November 1, 1951; Patricia Lynn, June 14, 1954. Shorty died suddenly on

December 22, 1983.

After high school Ruth worked at Lucille Livingston's Coffee Shop, the Ben Franklin

Store, Rexall Drug where she stirred up great chocolate sodas, the OPA (Office of

Price Administration designed to control wartime inflation), and in the office of Cudahy's.

Later she was Shorty's secretary at Farmer's Mutual Insurance and the bookkeeper

at Clark Lumber Company. After Shorty's untimely death she rose to the occasion and

became the sole proprietor of the Lumber Company for nearly eleven years. There

were only two years of Ruth's life that she did not live in Bedford. This is when she and

Shorty owned and operated the Country Boys Lumber Yard in Grant City, before

returning to Bedford and establishing Clark Lumber Company.

Ruth was an enthusiastic promoter and worker in the Bedford Community; a longtime

member of the Rebekah Lodge, Lioness, and the Chamber of Commerce. After retirement

she volunteered as a guide at the Taylor County Museum. She sold tickets at the gate

of the Taylor County Fair for many years.

The Bedford Baptist Church was always her church home; she attended services there

from the time she was a child. Ruth asked Jesus to be her Savior at the age of twelve,

becoming a member of the church almost 70 years ago. When she was in high school she

began playing the piano at church, which she continued throughout her life. When the

organ became a part of the church's music she became a self-taught organist as well.

She was very proud that six generations of her family, beginning with her grandparents,

attended the Bedford Baptist Church regularly.

Ruth's faith carried her through many difficult times. A clinging cross, given to her

by a dear friend, brought her much comfort during her final illness. It was always in her

hand for every doctor's appointment and treatment as a reminder of God's love and

care.

Ruth was a grandmother extraordinaire. She had a remarkable sense of how she

could be of help and encouragement to her eight grandchildren, their spouses

and her twelve great grandchildren. She sent cards, made phone calls, sent little

packages, was readily available for visits, ran errands, helped baby-sit, and always

claimed her grandmother's rights for holding and cuddling a new baby. Every child should

have a grandmother a loving as Ruth.

In addition to her joy of being with her immediate family, she treasured visits

from her two nieces who live away, Judy and Merle Engleka, and Kaye and Len

Ware. She was grateful that Carole (a special cousin) and Vic Noer lived close-by, which

made possible many happy times together.

Ruth is survived by two daughters and a son: Cathy and Don Cochran, Spring Hill,

KS; Brent and Debbie Clark, Glenwood, IA; Patricia and David Dukes, Bedford, IA.,

and grandchildren: Brandi and Kevin Chambers, Tera and Matt Schlotfelt, Alison Clark

and Dan Porter, James Clark, Megan Clark, Elaina and James Johnson, Troy and Erin

Dukes, Katy and Dustin Longfellow. Great grandchildren are Katelynn, Taylor

and Sarah Chambers; Banner Schlotfelt; Preston and Logen Clark; Zachary, Alexander

and Bradley Johnson; Mason and Quinton Dukes; and Ruthie Grace Longfellow.

She also is survived by three sisters-in-law; Ethel Hanshaw, Maxine Wallace

and Phyllis Clark, and brother-in-law, Dean Clark and wife Sally. She also leaves many

nieces, nephews and friends who will miss her generous, loving and caring ways.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard Reed Clark;

brothers, Forrest Hanshaw and Clif Hanshaw; sisters-in-law, Marjorie Hanshaw and

Kay Hanshaw; and nephews, Jim Hanshaw and Paul Hanshaw.

of her boys and their athletic events as they were growing up, always being a 'vocal

Anne Marie (Nelson) Lindstedt was born September 27, 1921, in Emerson, Iowa

the daughter of William "Bill" Nelson and Nellie (Pehrson) Nelson. She grew up

attending school in Emerson, graduating from the Emerson High School with the

George served during World War II and upon his discharge, he and Anne lived

the Western Auto store for fifteen years. Anne later became the bookkeeper

for Beemer Oil. Although the couple was not able to have children of their

own, they enjoyed sharing the lives of many other children in their community.

George and Anne truly enjoyed the Christmas Holiday Season. In fact,

George was one of the first in the community to 'get into' decorating the

outside of their home located at 403 Dodge Street, a tradition that Anne

would carry on even after George's death in 1977. Anne was not only 'into' the

Christmas spirit by decorating but she was also a cook extraordinaire! (Well

Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Red Oak; a past member of the Bedford

Saddle Club; and the Rebekah Lodge. She was a meticulous woman who

'always put everything in its place'. Anne also enjoyed bowling for many

Lundquist, Germaine Mae Fleming -

Mass of Christian Burial Services for Germaine Lundquist, age 77 of Corning

who died Wednesday, November 29, 2006 at the Iowa Methodist Medical

Center in Des Mpiries were held Monday December 4, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at

St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Corning. Interment was held in the Calvary

Cemetery. Memorials can be given in her name. Memories can be shared

with the family on our web page at www.ritchiefunralhome. com under

Obituaries. Arrangements were entrusted to the Roland-Ritchie Funeral

Home of Corning.

Germaine Mae (Fleming) Lundquist was born in Des Moines, Iowa on June 10,

1929, the daughter of Harold Fleming and Marinda "Dolly" (Imgrund) Fleming.

"Maine", as she was affectionately referred to by those closest to her, grew

up in Corning within the same block as St. Patrick's Catholic Church. She grew up

attending school in Corning graduating with the Class of 1947. She then went

on to attend Ottumwa Heights College. On September 4, 1948, she was united in

marriage to Russell Lundquist at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Corning. To this

loving union four children were born. In the spring of 1949, Germaine and Russell

moved to a farm in the Bushville area. She would continue to live on the family

farm her entire life. During the years her children were growing up she worked

for the N.F.O. and the Turner Store in Bedford until her retirement.

While her kids were growing up, Germaine was always sewing items of clothing for

them, sport coats, robes, blouses, blazers and dresses for special occasions

like Easter, Christmas and school occasions. After her kids were grown and gone,

her interest in sewing evolved into making quilts, lap quilts, table runners and wall

hangings, all of which she lovingly crafted and presented to her kids and

grandkids as keepsakes for occasions such as graduations, Christmas, births and

other special events. Her loving gifts will be treasured always.

Germaine was always giving of herself in everything she did, always thinking of

others.  If there was an occasion, she would have a card in your mailbox on the

day it took place. She was the kind of person that was tremendously modest. After

receiving a compliment something like, "Grandma, you make the best brownies!" she

would simply. wrinkle her nose and say, "Oh, you're just prejudice," Yep, we sure

were! Some of Maine's other passions were reading, the Kansas City Chiefs, trips

to Omaha with her girlfriends, staying in touch with close friends, the beauty

of the Iowa landscape, and so many other things. We will be forever amazed and

blessed by her ability to make special occasions, such as Christmas, truly special

and unforgettable. No worry Maine .... With God's help, you will live on in

all those you have touched, and we await the day we see your shining spirit again.

Those of us fortunate enough to experience Maine's cooking knew that she not

only enjoyed cooking anything and everything, but that she was the best! Grandma's

brownies, pies, salads, cookies and turkey giblet gravy were family favorites. We

will miss calling up Grandma and asking "How do I make this like you do?"

Those things most important to Germaine included her family, three

lovely granddaughters, her garden and flowers. She loved sewing/quilting, cooking

and maintaining her relationships with close friends. She truly loved the 'simple

pleasures' of life. In the spring and summer; her back step was filled with every

flower imaginable and she transformed her back yard under the shade tree to a

hosta garden, which grew and grew under her care with each year gone by.

The Church and her faith were very important to her from a very young age.

She was active in church activities, including the Altar Society, and as a lector in

Mass. Rarely did she miss a Sunday morning Mass. It is the certainty and

unwavering nature of her faith that sustained her through tough times, and

continues to sustain her family knowing that she has passed to the loving arms

of God.

Left to cherish Gefmaine's memory are her two sons, Robert Lundquist of

Corning; and David Lundquist of Chariton; three granddaughters, Melissa

Richmond and husband Dell of Columbia, Missouri; Suzanne Muldrew of Overland

Park, Kansas; and Jessica Lundquist of Chariton; a brother Tom Fleming and wife

Sandy of Arkansas; a brother-in-law, Lowell Foster of Port Huron, Michigan;

a sister-in-law, Betty Fleming of Creston; a son-in-law Dennis Muldrew

of Overland Park, Kansas; along with many nieces, nephews relatives and friends.

Preceding Germaine in death are her parents Harold and Dolly Fleming; two

daughters Mary Helen at infancy; and Barbara Muldrew in 2003; husband

Russell in 1983; a sister Virginia Foster; and a brother Bob Fleming.
