Beard, Gordon -

Mr Gordon Beard. 84 of Mt. Gilead, NC died November 26 1999 at Stanley Memorial

Hospital. Albermarle, NC.

Born April 24, 1915 in Bedford. Iowa where he attended Bedford High School and

graduated in the class of 1933. He attended the University of Iowa.

Gordon was a 32 Degree Scottish Rite Mason and Royal Arch Mason. At the time of

his death he was a member of Richland Lodge No. 283. E.&A.M. lie was also a member

of the Mystic Shrine in Za-Ga-Zig Temple, Des Moines, IA. Gordon was also a 50 year

member and Past Patron of the Order of Eastern Star Silome Chapter #264, Lenox. IA.

Gordon was a Charter Pounder & Life member of The National Rifle Association.

Gordon married his wife. of 59 years, Velma Ruth Collins of Graham. Mo. and they lived

in Lenox and Bedford, where they owned the Crystal Beverage Co. In 1952 they relocated

to Richland. Wash. Gordon was employed as Senior Engineering Technician until his

retirement in 1980 from Westinghouse Hanford Co. a prime contractor for the U.S.

Atomic Energy Commission. Upon retirement Gordon and Velma moved to their

mountain home in Naches, Wash, and recently moved to Mt. Gilead, N.C. to be closer

to their children.

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents Edwin Beard of Bedford, and Lillian

Maloy Gilleland of Corning; sister Guinivere Beard John, and half-brother Donald Beard.

He is survived by his wife Velma C. Beard of Mt. Gilead, daughters Patricia Ann and

husband John P. Deaton of Charlotte, N.C. and Harriett Lynne Harlow of Cincinnati,

half-brother Joe Beard and wife Agnesse of Colorado Springs, nieces Judy Hynnek

of Corning and Martha John of Creston, Kathryn and husband Michael Davis and

nephew Richard Beard of 'Colorado Springs. Gordon also had 5 grandchildren and 10 great

grandchildren and 1 step great grandson.

Stanley Funeral Home and Caroline Cremation was entrusted.

Bladon, Alice E -

Alice E. Bladon, 92, died Dec. 22. 1999 at the Lenox Care Center.

Her body was cremated and services will be held at a later date.

Alice was born Dec. 30, 1906 to Lawrence Albert and Rosa Belle (Query) Parks in

Taylor County, Iowa.

She married Ralph Eugene Bladon on Dec. 30, 1924.

Alice was a school teacher and homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Ralph, in March of

1963 and two sisters: Gail Kopp and Mae Grace.

She is survived by three daughters: Gail Lynn (Joseph) Scroppo of Oak Brook,

IL., Wilma Kay (Frank) Santiago of O'Fallon IL. and Beverly Joyce (Doug) Urie

of Oakdale, MN.

She had nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Boyles, Floyd Stewart -

Floyd Stewart Boyles was born to Wayne and Charlotte Boyles on October 10,

1917 in Des Moines, Iowa and passed away Dec. 14, 1999 in San Diego, California.

Floyd's mother passed away when he was very young. In 1921 his father met

and married Anna Dickson. Anna had a son, Everett, so now Floyd had a brother

and a wonderful lady as a mother.

After moving from Iowa westward in the early twenties, they settled in

San Francisco where Wayne's sister lived. Once again they decided to

relocate, making San Diego their home.

In 1933 Floyd and Everett joined the army and were stationed at Ft. Lewis,

Washington. Both were discharged in 1936. In 1942 Floyd

again served in the army at Camp Roberts, California. He was discharged in

1943 due to an injury he sustained during maneuvers.

Floyd's grandmother and her husband lived in Lenox, Iowa. The family left

San Diego to be with her when her husband died. They arrived in

Lenox July of 1938. Shortly thereafter Floyd met his future wife, Vivienne

Hetz. They were married on October 10, 1938. Floyd and Vivienne

celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary this year.

Floyd and Vivienne returned to San Diego and lived in their present home for

46 years.

Brand, Carl Ralph -

Carl Ralph Brand, 82 of Creston died at Greater Community Hospital.

Mr. Brand was born October 29, 1917 in Ringgold County to Roy and Helen

Jeanette (Johnson) Brand. He attended Ringgold County

country schools. On October 10, 1942, he married Lorena Leyda in Missouri and

she preceded him in death August 9, 1971.

On February 11, 1972 he married Martha Jeske in Creston. He farmed all his life

and lived in Diagonal until moving to Creston in 1977 when

he retired.

He was a member of VFW Post 1797, Eagles and Crestland Farmers Co-op in

Creston. He was a World War II veteran serving in the United States Army

from November 21, 1942 to February 3, 1946.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Brand of Creston; a son, Larry (wife Cathy)

Brand of Jacksonville, AR; three daughters, Jeanette (husband Chuck) Nissen of

Riverside, CA, Donna (husband J.R.) Knik of Chino Hills, CA, and Kathy (husband

Dan) Huey of Atlantic; two stepsons, Gary (wife Donna) Dudney and David (wife

Loraine) Dudney of Lorimor; two stepdaughters, Sharon (husband Mike) Ambrose

of Kent and Carolyn Gumming of Macksburg; two sisters Waunita (husband Leo)

Sobotka of Lenox and Bernita (husband Don) Tharp of Show Low, AZ; nine

grandchildren, nine step grandchildren; four great grandchildren and eight

step great grandchildren.

In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents;

stepmother Edith Brand, and two step grandsons.

Bunch, Marjorie Louise Tuller -

Marjorie Louise Bunch of Leon, Iowa, daughter of Eugene Delbert and Faye C.

(Ellis) Tuller, was born on a farm near Elk Chapel in Decatur County, Iowa on

Sept. 19, 1912. She went to be with the Lord on Dec. 4, 1999 at the age of 87

years.

Marjorie graduated from Leon High School and went on to get her teaching

certificate. She taught in country schools in the area. She married James

Garber Bunch on Feb. 22, 1936. Their marriage was blessed with 8 children.

Marjorie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

She had various jobs at Central Decatur High School in Leon. After retirement,

she and her husband Jim attended the Leon Community Center daily for lunch,

where Marjorie also volunteered. Marjorie enjoyed family, friends, and church.

She especially enjoyed time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great

grandchildren. Marjorie was a long time member of Leon Brethren Church. She

and Jim enjoyed reading the Bible and Bible commentaries.

Preceding Marjorie in death were her parents Eugene and Faye Tuller; brother

Frank Tuller; sister Merle Schmidt; infant great grandson Nicholas Shortell and

her husband Jim Bunch on June 24, 1995.

She is survived by 8 children: Ronald Bunch and wife Pat of Cedar Rapids, IA,

Marilyn Horn and husband Jerry of Ankeny, IA, Zelda Davis and husband Walt

of Whittier, CA, Louise Ball and husband Charles of Leon, Dennis Bunch and wife

Judy of Lenox, IA, Donnella Welborn and husband Wayne of Leon, Joan Gandy

and husband Harold of Indianola, IA, and Daryl Bunch and wife Robin of

Cherokee, IA; 37 grandchildren and their spouses; 23 great grandchildren;

sister-in-law Ruth Dyer of Leon; nieces and nephews; and many other relatives

and close friends.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, 1999 at Leon Brethren

Church, Leon, Iowa with Pastor Dale Short and Pastor wait Davis officiating.

Burial was in Leon Cemetery. Services were conducted by Slade-O'Donnell

Funeral Home of Leon.

Memorials may be given to Leon Brethren Church.

Davis, Baleigh Rebecca -

Baleigh Rebecca Davis, stillborn daughter of Bill and Julie Davis, died Dec.

14, 1999 in Des Moines, Iowa.

Private graveside services were held at Oakland Cemetery at Quincy with

Father Dan Siepker officiating.

Baleigh is survived by her parents, Bill and Julie Davis of Lenox; paternal

grandparents, Bill and Dorene Davis of Prescott; maternal grandmother,

Dorothy Armstrong of Corning; paternal great-grandmother, Louise Davis

of Corning; many aunts, uncles and other relatives.

Baleigh was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather and paternal

great grandfather.

Grant, Veneta B -

Veneta B. Grant was born August 18, 1900 at Clearfield, Iowa to Ulysses

S. and Maude (Richards) Grant. She passed away December 22, 1999 at

the Clearview Home in Clearfield at the age of 99 years, 4 months and 4 days.

Veneta was a lifelong resident of Clearfield. She graduated from Clearfield

 High school in 1918, with a class of ten girls and ten boys. Veneta had been

a resident of Clearview Home since 1989.

She was employed in a dress shop, then the Post Office and as a clerk in a

grocery store until her retirement in 1967. She was a past matron of the

Order of Eastern Star and a member of the United Methodist Church of

Clearfield.

Veneta always had a pleasant disposition and loved visiting with family and

friends.

Survivors include two nieces; Cleone Ullstead and husband, Harold and Betty

Dixson and husband, Donald all of Palm Harbor, Florida. Two nephews; Harry

Grant, Jr. of Fairhope, Alabama and William F. Grant of Mohave Valley,

Arizona. Also several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Loyd D. Grant

and Harry Grant.

Graveside services were held on Tuesday, December 28, 1999 at 10:30 a.m.

at the Clearfield Cemetery in Clearfield, Iowa.

Casketbearers were L.Banks Wilson, LeRoy Beggs, Erwood Huffman, Charles

Jackson, Marvin Boyer and Alan Larsen.

Arrangements were by the Wilson-Watson and Armstrong Funeral Home.

Haidsiak, Frank John -

Funeral services for Frank Haidsiak, age 91 of Bedford were held Tuesday,

November 30, 1999 at 10:30 a.m. at the Ritchie Funeral Home with

Pastor Gary Long officiating.

Frank John Haidsiak was born May 6, 1908 in Nuckell County, Nebraska,

the son of John Haidsiak and Anna Holms Haidsiak. Frank came to Taylor

County at a young age. He grew up attending the Benton Township schools

and farmed with his father northwest of Bedford and then later in the

Athelstan area.

On February 6, 1932 he was united in marriage to Vivian Sharp in Kansas

City, Missouri. To this union two daughters were born, Carol and Mary.

The first two years of their marriage they continued farming  with Frank's

parents until moving to a small farm northwest of Blockton. Later

they purchased a farm one mile away, living there until 1973 when they

moved to Bedford. Frank continued to farm until retiring and they sold

the farm in 1979.

He worked for the County Assessor for several years and was always very

active in the ASCS and other farming related activities. Frank was a strong

believer in conservation, whether in farming or other areas of life.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Vivian of Bedford; two daughters,

Carol Dykman and husband Ed of Bedford; and Mary Longe of Lincoln,

Neb.; a brother Wayne Haidsiak and wife Jean of Clearfield; three sisters,

Nina Dukes of Bedford; Vera Carson and Annabel Walkup, both of

Redding; a sister-in-law, Lois Haidsiak of Bedford; five grandchildren;

nine great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren, along with

a host of nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, John and Anna; a son-in-law, Bob

Longe; a brother Max Haidsiak; and four sisters, Helen Hunter,

Lucille Hammer, Hazel Haidsiak and Ethel Haidsiak.

Interment was in the Fairview Cemetery.

Johnson, Wilbur (Shorty) -

Funeral services for Wilbur "Shorty" Johnson, age 79 of Gravity, who

died Saturday, Dec. 25, 1999 in Corning were held Tuesday, Dec. 28,

1999 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ritchie Funeral Home in Bedford with Larry

Johnson officiating.

Interment was held in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Guss. Memorials

can be given in his name. Services were conducted by the Ritchie

Funeral Home of Bedford.

Wilbur "Shorty" Lloyd Johnson was born June 26, 1920 in Gus, Iowa, the

son of Calvin Wesley Johnson and Sara Emma Holland Johnson. Shorty

attended rural schools.

On August 22, 1949 he was united in marriage to Betty Ridnour in Nodaway,

Iowa. Shorty lived his entire life within a two-mile radius of where he was

born. He and Betty enjoyed farm life.

Shorty had also worked at the sale barn and co-op in Corning for many years.

He is survived by his wife Betty Johnson of Gravity; a brother, George W.

Johnson and wife Lucille of Nodaway; three sisters-in-law, Lila Johnson of

Red Oak; Lola Johnson of Corning and Mary Johnson of New Market and

several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and many cousins.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Calvin and Sara; four brothers,

Floyd Johnson, Delbert Johnson, Albert Johnson and Francis Johnson; a

sister at infancy and a sister-in-law, Leona Johnston.

Murrenus, Wesley James -

Wesley James Murrenus, 72, of Sharpsburg, Iowa, died at his home on

Dec. 9, 1999.

He was born April 15, 1927 in Milwaukee, Wis. to Leroy Ellis Murrenus

and Violet Elizabeth Miller. He worked as a tool and die machinist.

He married Marion Shimer on May 9, 1965. Wesley lived in California,

Wisconsin and Sharpsburg.

He was preceded in death by his father, wife and a brother Ray. He

is survived by his mother Violet Murrenus of Tampa, Florida; daughter

Roxanne (Mike) Hirshfield of Whitewater, WI; son Gerald (Patsy)

Murrenus of Oconomowoe, WI; daughter Debbie (Mark) Chipman of

Greendale, WI; brother Leslie (Kathy) Murrenus of Farmington Hills,

MI; sister Vivian (Don) Luttrell of West Covine, CA;

sister Ruby Griffiths of Greendale, WI; sister Audrey Sikorski of

Tampa, FL and six grandchildren.

Coen-Beaty Funeral Home of Lenox is in charge of the service which

will be held at a later date.

Paton, Marjory Louise Roe -

Funeral services for Marjory Louise Paton, 78, of Reinbeck were be 10:30 a.m.

Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, at the Union Congregational United Church

of Christ, Reinbeck. Reverend Joel Love officiated. Burial was in the Reinbeck

Cemetery.

Marjory Louise Paton died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999 of natural causes at

Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, IA.

Born on August 13, 1921 in Taylor County, Marge was the daughter of Jess

and Mary Cipra Toe. She attended Lenox High and graduated with the

Class of 1938 and had worked at the Lenox Time Table.

She was united in marriage on June 23, 1945 in Kansas City, Mo. to Alan Paton.

The couple made their home in Reinbeck where Marge worked for the

Reinbeck High School, Paton Brothers Trucking Company, and Raney Insurance.

Later, she worked and retired as a farm program administrator at the Grundy

County ASCS Office in Grundy Center. She was a member of the Union

Congregational United Church of Christ, Reinbeck and participated in the Eve

Circle. She was also a member of the American Legion Action Post

Auxiliary #242, Reinbeck.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; two

brothers, John and Gene; and a sister, Grace.

Surviving are two daughters, Jill Hamblen and Julie Hamblen, both of

Ridgecrest, CA; grandsons Nicholas and Nathan Hamblen, also of Ridgecrest, CA;

brother Dean Roe of Stuart, IA; sisters Bonnie Ridgley of Miami, FL and Doris

Key of Lenox; many nieces, nephews and beloved friends also survive.

Shaw, Carl Latimer -

Carl Latimer Shaw, formerly of Corning, died on Dec. 6, 1999 at Four Seasons

Health Care Facility in Ft. Collins, Colorado.

He was born on Feb. 18, 1915 in Corning, Iowa  to Fenton "Don" Shaw and Nelle

Latimer Shaw.  He graduated from Corning High School and married Marion Cheese

of Lenox at St. Patrick Church in Lenox on Feb. 2, 1936.

He worked at his uncle's drug store in Corning before moving to Denver, Colo.,

to work in the wholesale furniture

business. He continued in this line of work in California in the cities of Hillsborough

and San Carlos.

In 1983 he retired and moved to Ft. Collins to be near family. He was active in the

SIRS Organization in

California and was a volunteer at the Loveland, Colorado museum after he retired.

He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and by a cousin, Dorothy Dell

Latimer Leigh of Omaha, NE.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and a brother, Don. Burial was at

San Carlos, California.

Trexler, Allen Harvey -

Funeral services for Allen Trexler, age 81 of Lincoln, Nebraska, who died Friday,

November 26, 1999 as the result of the automobile accident were held Tuesday,

November 30, 1999 at 10:30 a.m. at the Ritchie Funeral Home in Lenox with Pastor

Dena Vittorio officiating.

Interment with military rites accorded by the Lenox American Legion Post No. 250

was held in the West Fairview Cemetery. Memorials can be

given in his name. Services were conducted by the Ritchie Funeral Home of Lenox.

Allen Harvey Trexler was born July 12, 1918 in Wichita, Kansas. Allen grew up on a

farm near Wichita attending rural schools. After his father's death, he moved to

Wichita.

On August 28, 1943, he was united in marriage to Bonnie Key in Omaha, Nebraska.

After their marriage Allen entered the United States Army serving stateside

during World War II. Upon his discharge, the couple moved to Lincoln where he

worked for a bakery until his retirement in 1983. He continued to live in Lincoln

after Bonnie's death in 1991, living there fifty-six years. Even though Allen

and Bonnie were never able to have children of their own, they loved having them

in their home, since Bonnie worked for Russell-Stover Candies, there would always

be a treat or two for the children when they stopped in. Allen enjoyed fishing and

was fond of dogs, especially Boxers. He was a member of the American Legion.

He is survived by two brothers-in-law, Reldon Key and wife Doris of Lenox and

Melvin Key and wife Linda of Atlantic; several nieces, nephews and great nieces,

nephews and friends.

Preceding him in death are his parents, his wife Bonnie in 1991, a daughter,

Shirley Louise at infancy, two sisters, a brother-in-law, Kenneth Key and wife

Josephine and a sister-in-law, Marie Miller and husband Homer.

Tucker, Bernice Bush -

Bernice Tucker, 94, died Dec. 21, 1999 at the Lenox Care Center.

Services were held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday Dec. 28. 1999 at the Methodist

Church in Lenox with Rev. John Keizer officiating.

Music was provided by Kathryn Wilson, organist and Gwen Maynes, Carolyn

Beran, and Marilyn Brokaw, soloists.

Bernice was born June 27, 1905 to William and Eva (Patterson) Bush in Adams

County, Iowa. She graduated from Lenox High School with the class of 1924.

Bernice married Ora Tucker on November 11, 1934 at Carbon, Iowa.

She taught school for many years and retired in 1970.

Bernice was a member of the of the Methodist Church and a former Eastern

Star member.

Preceding Bernice in death were her parents, husband: Ora, a sister: Edith,

a brother: Howard, one grandson, one granddaughter and a son-in-law:

Joseph Hepler.

She is survived by a daughter: Twilla Hepler of Alexandria, Virginia, two

brothers: Harold (Amy) Bush of Berkeley, CA. and Lowell (Ruby) Bush of

Longmont, CO. and one grandchild.

Interment will be at North Fairview Cemetery in Lenox.

Coen-Beaty Funeral Home of Lenox was in charge of the arrangements.

West, Charles Elmer -

Funeral services for Elmer West, age 91, were held at 11 a.m. on Monday,

Nov. 15 at the Roland-Powers Funeral Home in Corning, Iowa. Rev. Tim

Maxa, Pastor of the Lenox United Presbyterian Church, assisted by Rev.

Roy Cook and Rev. John Wagner, conducted the services. Burial

was at the Salem Cemetery in Lenox.

Elmer was born on Feb. 16, 1908 in West Plains, Mo. to Elmer Taylor and

Ida May (Campbell) West. He attended school in West Plains and Red

Oak areas. On Dec. 24, 1932 he was united in marriage to Leota Marie

Howard in Maryville, Mo. They lived on farms near Red Oak and Nodaway

and in 1956 entered the ministry.

He served the Church of the Brethren in Albia, Garrison, Cedar Rapids,

Mt. Etna and Salem. He was a member of the Salem Church of the

Brethren near Lenox.

Elmer was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marie in February

of 1999; two half brothers, Warren and Hollis; two sisters, Minta and

Bernice; three grandchildren and one great grandson.

He is survived by three sons: Alvus Marvin (wife Sharon) West of

Prescott, Iowa; Lee (wife Gloria) West of Weatherford, Texas; Dennis

Ray (wife Cindy) West of Council Bluffs, Iowa; one daughter Erma Louise

(husband Marvin) Fuller of Corning, Iowa; one half brother, Earl (wife Jean)

Stephenson of Milford, Illinois; one half sister, Sinda Handey of Milford,

Illinois; twenty-two grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren; and 5 great

great grandchildren.
