Glenn
Allen Bauer, 57 of Lenox died January 5, 1999 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center
in Des Moines.
Mr.
Bauer was born January 29, 1941 in Bloomington, IL to Arthur Earl and Helen L.
(Zimmerman) Bauer. He graduated from high school
in Cissna Park, IL. On April 24, 1965 he married
Linda Kuipers in Oilman, IL. He was a farmer.
He
moved with his family as a child from Bloomington to Cissna Park, IL. After his marriage he moved to Garden Grove in 1966 and Leuox in 1969. He was a member of the Lenox Stock and
Saddle Club for 29 years and served as treasurer for 12 years. He was a
member of the Pony Express Riders of Iowa and was ride director for Taylor
County. He served on Camp Sunnyside Board of Directors in Des Moines.
Survivors
include his wife, Linda Bauer of Lenox; mother, Helen Bauer of Bloomington, IL;
a son, Troy Lee (wife Norma) Bauer of Greenview, IL;
two daughters Chantelle R. (husband Steven) Jennett of Stockton and Stephanie L. (husband Marc)
McCartney of Urbandale;
a brother, Stanley (wife Janetta) Bauer of Ellsworth,
IL; two sisters, Joyce (husband Don) Whitten of Mechanicsburg, IL and Jeanice (husband Hank) Young of Heathrow, FL; and seven
grandchildren.
He
was preceded in death by his father, and father and mother-in-law, Art and Kay Kuipers.

Beach, Patricia Ann McLaury -
Funeral
services for Patricia Ann Beach, age 70, who died at her home on Thursday,
December 24, 1998, were held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday,
December 28, 1998, at the Lenox United Methodist Church with Pastor Audrey Westendorf officiating.
Burial
was at the East Fairview Cemetery in Lenox. Services were conducted by the
Ritchie Funeral Home of Lenox.
Patricia
Ann Beach was born to Clifford and Ruth Reynolds McLaury on July 17, 1928 in Taylor County, Iowa.
She
was a life long area resident attending and
graduating from the Lenox High School in 1945. On May 27, 1945 she was united
in marriage
to Bill L. Beach in Lenox. To this loving union nine children were born Robert,
Linda, Raelene, Kathleen, Susan, James, Jerry, Janice
and Tim.
Patricia
and Bill made their home farming in the Sharpsburg area. They purchased a
grocery and locker in the fall of 1953, which they operated
together while continuing to farm. In the spring of 1961 they moved to
Sharpsburg where they resided for many years. The Beach Grocery and Locker was
destroyed by fire in March of 1962.
In
1961 Bill was appointed postmaster at Sharpsburg and later transferred to rural
mail carrier. During this time Patricia started working for the Postal Service
in Sharpsburg, Lenox, Kent, Creston and also as Clerk for the Des Moines Post
Office.
In
1983 Bill passed away. In 1986 Patricia moved to Lenox and retired in 1988.
Patricia
stayed active in her church circle and various clubs. She was a member of the
Lenox United Methodist Church; Past Grand Representative and Past Matron of the
Order of Eastern Star and was active in the Rural Letter Carriers Auxiliary.
Patricia's
family was most important, she took great pride in attending and supporting her
children and grandchildren's activities.
Survivors
include three sons, Robert and Joyce Beach of Needville,
Texas; James and Karen Beach of Muscatine, Iowa; and Tim Beach of Seattle,
Washington; five daughters, Linda Woolley and Fred of Lenox; Raelene Best and Denis of Indianola; Kathleen Beach of
Bremerton, Washington; Susan Borcherding and Keith of
Redfield, Iowa; and Janice Beach of Lenox; three sisters, Beverly Cunningham of
Ft. Meyers, Florida; Marilyn Pikala and Rick of Ft.
Meyers, Florida; and Sharon Nutting and John of
Huntington Beach, Calif.; one
brother-in-law, Walter Beach and Mary of Dallas, Texas; two sister-in-law,
Josephine Walter and Julian of Lenox; and Marjorie Steinke and Walt of Spokane,
Wash.; twenty-three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, along with many
other family
members
and friends.
She
is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Bill in 1983; and a son, Jerry
Dale, who died in infancy.

Becherer, Nadine Deaver Besco -
Nadine Deaver Besco was born to
Henry and Ethel Besco on March 16, 1924 near Platteville,
Taylor County, Iowa. She grew up in the Conway
Community and graduated from Conway Consolidated High School, and was employed
in Arkansas and Washington D.C. before her marriage
to Gene P. Becherer on March 17, 1946.
To
this union was born three sons, Larry and Steven of Omaha and Dwight of
Shirley. NY. During their marriage they resided at Hastings,
Nebraska, Sharpsburg and Lenox, Iowa moving to Omaha in 1966.
While
residing in Lenox, she was secretary to the Lenox School Board and a private
piano instructor. In Omaha she was employed by various grain companies,
retiring in 1973.
Music
and Church work were two of her joys. Her accomplishments were organizing youth
choirs, choir member/director, and church organist
at the Lenox Christian Church and the South Side Christian Church. She was the
church secretary in Omaha for 12 years.
Nadine
leaves to mourn her passing her husband Gene, son Larry and daughter-in-law
Marilyn, sons Steven and Dwight; grandson Michael; step-grandchildren
Carol and Irvin Carper, Paul Victor, John and Patti Victor; four step
great-grandchildren; sister Verneil Stephens, Bedford;
two sisters-in-law, Wilma Cohrt, Lenox; Shirley and
Charlie Lucas of Washington, Iowa; numerous nieces and nephews and friends.

Services
for Lorene Boydston were held Saturday, January 23,
1999 at Coen-Beaty Funeral Home in Lenox with Rev.
Tim Maxa officiating.
Lorene
was born July 18, 1912 at Sharpsburg, Iowa to Edward and Belle (Boyden) Phelan.
She passed away Jan. 18, 1999 at Sunrise Health Care Center in Morrison, Colo.,
at the age of 86.
On
February 1, 1934 she was united in marriage to Gerald Boydston at Sharpsburg, Iowa. She spent most of her life in Sharpsburg as a homemaker.
She moved to Morrison, Colo., in 1996. She was a member of the Sharpsburg
Presbyterian Church.
Survivors
include her daughter Pat and husband Gerald Richardson of Morrison, Colorado
and a sister, Marguerite Barlow of Lenox,
Iowa.
She
was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and a daughter, Gerri
Williams.
Interment
was in the North Fairview Cemetery in Lenox, Iowa. Memorials to the
Lenox-Sharpsburg Presbyterian Church.
Coen-Beaty Funeral Home of Lenox was in charge of the arrangements.

Anna
Matilda Breach, daughter of Lewis Alff and Anna
Brockman was born at Neola, Iowa, December 17, 1901 and departed this life December
18, 1998 in Clearfield, Iowa at the age of 97 years.
She
grew to maturity attending the public school and the Lutheran Church.
On
September 30, 1926 she was united in marriage to Ray Clarence Breach at
Oakland, Iowa and they moved to Taylor County in 1942.
To
this union five children were born: Dean, Delmar, Norma, Kenneth and Eleanor.
She
was engaged as a housewife and employed at Glenwood State School and Spring
General Store.
She
was preceded in death by her parents; son's Delmar and Kenneth; husband, Ray; 1
sister, 4 brothers, 1 grandson and 1 greatgranddaughter.
Left
to cherish her memory are: son, Dean and wife Flossie Breach of Sharpsburg;
Daughter, Norma and husband William Culver of Hastings,
Nebraska; Daughter, Eleanor and husband William Witt of Council Bluffs;
brother's George and wife Annie Alff of Oakland, Iowa
and Alfred and wife Margaret Alff of Oakland, Iowa;
Delmar and wife Ethehrn Alff of Macedonia, Iowa; sister Emma Conner of Carson, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; 16
great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces
cousins and friends.
She
was a member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church, Bedford, Iowa and the American
Legion Auxiliary in Lenox, Iowa.
She
was a kind and considerate mother, grandmother, and neighbor and will be missed
by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral
services were held Monday, December 21 at Novinger-Taylor Funeral Home in
Bedford with Pastor Al Rusk officiating. Interment in the Conway Cemetery,
Conway, Iowa.

Dalbey, Margaret Esther -
Margaret
Esther Dalbey, the daughter of H.C and Anna (Duncan)
Beard was born April 15, 1910 in Mount Ayr. She died
January 2, 1999 at the Ringgold County Hospital. She graduated from Mount Ayr High School in 1928 and then attended Iowa State
College. After obtaining her teaching certificate, she taught Home Economics
and English in Diagonal.
Margaret
married Jackson Y. Dalbey June 3, 1934 in Mount Ayr. To this union was born a daughter, Sandra Ann, sharing
the same birthday with her mother. Jack and Margaret operated the lumberyard in
Diagonal from 1939 to 1955 and in Albany, MO from 1955 to 1973.
She retired with Jack to Cape Coral, FL where they made many new friends and
played many rounds of golf. They moved back to Mount Ayr in April 1991. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Mount Ayr.
One
of Margaret's true loves was architectural drawing. She drew hundreds of
Veterans Housing Administration house plans and other farm buildings built by
the Dalbey Lumber Company.
She
was preceded in death by her parents, a brother John Beard, husband Jack Dalbey, and son-in-law John Taylor.

Virginia Gaule, the daughter of Merle and Gladys (McCarty)
Reynolds was born November 7, 1938 in Ringgold County. She attended school in
Mount Ayr, IA.
Ginger
married Raymond Gaule September 7, 1956 and to this union
four children were born: Terri, Lisa, Dale and Doug.
Survivors
are her husband Raymond; daughters, Terri (David) Barnhill of Des Moines and
Lisa (Bruce) Brechtal of North Liberty, IA; sons,
Dale and Doug Gaule of Des Moines; 14 grandchildren;
sisters; Dorothy Campbell of Fremont, NE, Ramona Brand and Roena Dredge
of Mount Ayr and Jean Robertson of Diagonal, IA;
brothers: Burl Reynolds of Aurora, CO, Frank Reynolds of Tingley,
IA and Ronald Reynolds of Earlham, IA; and many nephews and nieces.
She
was preceded in death by her parents, brother John and her father-in-law Melvin Gaule.

Norma
Jean Schofield Johnson born October 11, 1934 at rural Lenox (Ringgold Co.), Iowa.
Her parents: Verne Lloyd and Mary Madden (Mickey)
Schofield. She died Wednesday, November 25, 1998 at Colonial Manor Nursing Home
in Columbus Junction, Iowa.
She
attended Lincoln #8 Country School in Ringgold County and Lenox High School
graduating in 1953.
Also
graduated from Immanuel Lutheran School of Nursing of Omaha, NE and University
of Iowa, Iowa City.
She
married Bob Johnson in September 1962 at
Burlington, where she lived till
entering the convalescent home. Two children
were born who survive: Jacqueline Jean Johnson and husband Greg Wagner of
Columbus Junction and Bobby Dean Johnson of Iowa
City.
She
was preceded in death by her father Verne in July 1978, Mother, Mary in July
1985 and brother Lloyd J. Schofield in July 1991.
Left
to cherish her memory besides her two children are her older brother, Wayne V.
Schofield and wife Naomi of Banning, California; sister-in-law
Lu Schofield of Lenox, Nephew Jack Schofield of Lenox; Nieces: Bonnie Schofield
Brown and husband Bruce of Creston and Deena Schofield Stalcup and husband Craig of Prescott and other relatives.

McKelvey,
Lela Johns -
Lela
was born July 7, 1899 in Ringgold County, Iowa to William E. and Elgie M. Johns. She graduated from the Clearfield High
School and has been a lifelong member of the Clearfield United Methodist
Church.
In
1923 Lela married Harry Harman McKelvey. Lela was a
homemaker and they lived in Mt. Ayr, Lenox, Lorimor and Clearfield, Iowa. In 1944 they moved to
Lincoln, Nebraska.
After
her husband died in 1983 Lela continued to live in Lincoln. Then in April 1990
she came back to Clearfield to live at Clearview Home.
Lela
is survived by a brother, Emmet Johns of Des Moines, Iowa; a son Bill and his
wife Mabel McKelvey of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, a grandson
Gary L. McKelvey, a granddaughter Susan McGraw and
her husband Patrick E. and a great grandson Sean P. McGraw all of Oklahoma
City.
Preceding
Lela in death were her parents and her husband.
Lela
leaves not only her family but many friends and acquaintances in Lincoln and
Clearfield.
Funeral
arrangements were made by Wilson-Watson Funeral Home. Graveside services were
conducted at 11:00 a.m. on December 14, 1998 by Rev. Al Rusk of the Clearfield
United Methodist Church. Burial was in the Clearfield Cemetery.
Memorials
may be made to the Clearfield United Methodist Church, the Fire Department, the
Clearfield Cemetery, or Clearview Home.

for Roswell "Rozle" Peterson were held
Tuesday, January 19, 1999 at the United Methodist Church in Corning, Iowa with
the Rev. Clark Christian and Rev. David Stromenn officiating.

Casket
Bearers were Dick Miller, Wes Scott, Lincoln Jackson, Hartford Jackson, Reese
Peterson and John Peterson. Honorary Bearers

Richard Mott, Ed Coulette, Bob Blasingame,
Walter Kukla, Don Williams and Garland Walter.
Roswell
was born November 30, 1934 in Adams County, Iowa to Lloyd and Ollie (Retland) Peterson. He passed away January 13, 1999
at
Columbia Largo Medical Center in Largo, Florida.
On
February 23, 1964 he was united in marriage to Darleen Wilmarth.
Roswell
farmed until 1971. He owned and operated Peterson's Floral in Lenox until 1992
and in Corning until January 1998 when he
retired.
He
lived in the Corning and Lenox areas his entire life except while in the U.S.
Army, where he served in the Korean conflict from Nov. 1, 1955 to Aug. 16,
1957. He has wintered in Indian Rocks Beach, Florida for the last 35 years.
He
was a member of the United Methodist Church in Lenox, A member of American
Legion in St. Louis, Missouri.
Survivors
include his wife Darleen Peterson; three sons, Lynn (Nathalie) of Des Moines;
Jamie Peterson of Osceola; Chad Peterson of Lenox; two daughters, Lorri (J.J.) Juarez of Omaha, NE and Kim (John) Weatherhead of Osceola, Iowa; two brothers, Roger (Mary)
Peterson
and Stanley (AJ.) Peterson both of Corning; one sister, Virginia Jackson of
Creston; six grandchildren.
He
was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in- law, Wayne Jackson.
Interment
was in the Strand Cemetery northwest of Carbon in Adams County.

Mary Rychnovsky, 90 of Clearfield, formerly of Prescott,
died December 24, 1998 at the Clearview Home in
Clearfield.
She
was born February 9, 1908 in Williamson to James B. and Mary Laura (Rose) Krisinger. On February 10, 1931 she married Andrew Rychnovsky in Corning.
She
was a homemaker and lived in Ringgold County from 1931-42 and then in Adams
County. She moved to the Clearview Home in 1998. She
was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, Altar Society and Prescott School PTA.
Mrs. Rychnovsky is survived by two sons, James (wife
Marilyn) Rychnovsky of Prescott and Marvin (wife Jan) Rychnovsky of Osceola; a
daughter,
Rosalie (husband Harold) Witt of Earlham; 11 grandchildren and nine great
grandchildren.
She
was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1998, brother James Krisinger and a granddaughter.
Services
were held December 29 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with the Rev. Leonard Kenkel officiating.
Burial
was held in Summit Cemetery in Adams County.

Services
for Jack Leon Shemat, 67, Stanton, NE were held
Saturday, October 24 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Stanton with

Schulz-Vogel-Johnson
Mortuary of Stanton was in charge of arrangements. Interment was held at the
Bancroft Cemetery at a later date.
Mr. Shemat died Thursday, October 22, 1998 at Faith Regional
Health Services in Norfolk.
He
was born January 4, 1931 in Gumming County to John Shemat and Ruth Brown. He graduated Bancroft High School in 1948 and attended Wayne
State College in Wayne. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from January 26,
1951 to January 25, 1954 during the
Korean
War era, where he received a Purple Heart. Mr. Shemat farmed near Bancroft for a short time. He then operated insurance agencies for
banks in Stanton; Gibbon; and Atlantic, Iowa. He retired to Stanton in 1992. He
was a member of St. John's Lutheran
Church;
the American Legion Post #88, Stanton; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3602, Stanton;
and the Northeast Nebraska Marine Corps Association.
Survivors
include two sons, Steven Shemat of Kearney and John Shemat of Omaha; two grandchildren; two sisters and their
spouses, Helen and Earl Fischer of Harlan, Iowa and Virginia and Ivan Poeschl of Bella Vista, Arkansas. He was preceded in death
by his parents
and
one son.
Honorary
pallbearers were Darrel Dubsky, Rod Hitz, Fred Freeman, Steve Nickolite,
Joe Mandl, Tom Mandl and
Duane Leapley. Special honorary pallbearers were
Cathy Nickolite, Brett Nickolite,
Ashley Nickolite and Spencer Nickolite.

Dan
Sweeney, 40 years of age, of Lenox passed away on December 4, 1998, at his
home.
Services
were held at 10:00 a.m. on December 7th at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in
Lenox. Father Dan Siepker and Rev. Tim Maxa officiated, and burial was in North Fairview Cemetery.
There was a wake from 7 to 8 p.m. on December 6 at the Coen-Beaty
Funeral
Home in Lenox.
Dan
Sweeney was born on November 12, 1958, in Corning, Iowa to George and Juanita
(Ferguson) Sweeney.
He
graduated from Lenox High School in 1977. On April 7, 1979, he married Jayne Leckliter. They are the parents of Kacie, Dayna and Paige Sweeney. Dan was a farmer and also a
Tile Contractor.
Survivors
include: daughters Kacie, Dayna and Paige Sweeney and their mother Jayne Thompson; his father George and
stepmother
Jean
Sweeney; brothers Dave and wife Joyce; Vince and wife Deanna; also many nieces
and nephews, all of Lenox.
Dan
was preceded in death by his mother Juanita Sweeney.

Wiand, Alice Mary Kessler Riggle -
Alice
Mary Wiand, age 81, a resident of Wheaton, Illinois
and a former longtime resident of Lenox, died Friday, December 18 at Central
DuPage Hospital in Winfield, Illinois. She was born February 6, 1917 in Creston, Iowa
to John and Grace (Burke) Kessler.
Mrs. Wiand was a longtime employee of the Farmer's Co-op
in Creston. She was a member of the Creston Eastern Star and was
actively
involved at the Lenox Methodist Church.
She
is survived by her daughter, Rose Mary and her husband Mat Molitor of Wheaton, Illinois, her daughter-in-law Gloria Riggle
of
Lake Mills, Iowa; her sister Carrie Mulford of
Creston, and seven grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
She
was preceded in death by her husband, Francis "Pete" Wiand, her son Thomas Charles Riggle;
three brothers, Ernest, Harry and Edward Kessler, and brother-in-law, Joseph Mulford.
Visitation
was held Sunday, December 20, 1998 from 5-9 p.m. at Coen-Beaty Funeral Home in Lenox.
Services
were held Monday, December 21, 1998 at 11 a.m. at the Lenox Methodist Church.
Interment followed at North Fairview Cemetery.
