Badgett, Max Richard -
Max Richard Badgett was born July 5, 1910 in Corning, Iowa, one of
four sons of King and Nora (Miller) Badgett. Max
graduated from high school and went on to begin his lifelong vocation of
farming the land.
On December
24, 1931, he was married to Ruby Crystal Brown in Omaha, Nebraska. Their union
was blessed with a daughter,
Phyllis.
All
of Max's work revolved around farming. He was a member of the Soil Conservation
Committee of Taylor County. He received a
prestigious
award for his efforts with soil conservation. He was a pioneer in such areas as
no-till farming, seeding clouds to produce rain,
using
sorghum to feed cattle, as well as many other ideas. He was a top producer in
raising cattle, and he raised chickens also. He also hauled cream for the
Corning creamery. He was not afraid to take risks and try new methods.

Outside
of work, Max loved to fish, hunt and camp.
For
many years, he would spend the winters in Florida, first with Ruby then with
Gerry.
During
