Armstrong, Robin L -

Robin L. Armstrong 37, dies on Sept. 6, 2004. The body was cremated and graveside services were held Sept. 11 at

the Lenox Cemetery.

Robin grew up in Lenox and had lived in Des Moines for over 10 years. He served in the U.S. Army and worked for

Bridgestone Firestone Company. Robin was a member and union steward of the United Steel Workers of America Local 310.

He is survived by his wife. Eileen Marie Armstrong: daughters Heather, Jennifer, Danielle, Marissa and Faith Armstrong, all of Des Moines: mother Linda Clayton of Thayer; father Eddie Armstrong of Des Moines: grandmother

Betty Campbell and step-grandfather Bob Campbell, both of Lenox: half brothers Aaron, Justin and Dan Armstrong; stepsister Jessica Walker; step-grandson Daylan Wood: and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

A memorial gathering was held at Grandview Park funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.

Bolte, Nina M -

Nina M. Bolte, age 94, Rolfe, passes away, Monday, September 20, 2004, at the Rolfe Care Center, Rolfe, IA.

Nina was preceded in death by her parents, nine brothers and sisters, and her husband, Roy. She is survived

by two daughters, Barbara (Manford) Thornton, Denver, CO. and Peggy (C.Wm.) Kemna, Rolfe.; five

grandchildren, three great-grandchildren: and one great-great-grandchild.

Nina entered the Rolfe Care Center in July, 2004.

Graveside services were held Thursday, September 23, 2004, at the West Fairview Cemetery, Lenox. There

was no visitation scheduled. The Powers Funeral Home, Rolfe was in charge of the arrangements.

Boltinghouse, Thelma Louise Ferguson -

Funeral services for Thelma Boltinghouse, age 79, Lenox, were held Wednesday, October 27, 2004 at 10:30

a.m. at the Sharpsburg United Methodist Church. Interment was held in the North Fairview Cemetery, Lenox.

Thelma passed away Sunday, October 24, 2004. Memorials can be directed to the Sharpsburg United Methodist

Church. Hospice of Central Iowa, or Vintage Park Apartments. Arrangements were by Ritchie Funeral Home,

Lenox.

Thelma Louise Ferguson was born July 18, 1925 on the family farm near Lenox, the daughter of George Andrew,

Jr., and Mary Elizabeth (Recknor) Ferguson. She attended Platte Township School for eight years and graduated

from Lenox High School in 1943. After graduation, Thelma taught country school for one year before marrying

Roland Hugh Boltinghouse on May 9, 1944 in Creston.

To this loving union three daughters were born, Diane, Connie and Kathy. When the girls were married Thelma

always said they had gained three sons. Thelma lived all of her life in Taylor County, taking great pride in their family

farm home that she and Roland moved into in March 1948.

Thelma loved spending time with her family and recalling memories of their time together. Thelma and Rollie

traveled some but home still came first. They liked to visit Thelma's sister, Merle Beggs, in Creston.

She belonged to Sunshine Sisters Club, enjoyed playing cards, attending Church, sewing, gardening, especially her

irises and being with family. Thelma took great pride in the fact that she made all three of her daughter's wedding cakes

and cakes for each grandchild when they graduated from high school. She has sewn quilts for each daughter, grandchild and

great grandchild, many having more than one.

Left to cherish Thelma's memory are her loving husband, Roland, Lenox: three daughters, Diane and husband, Dean

Bovaird, Corning; Connie and husband Bob Birt, Essex and Kathy and husband Mark Purdum, Centerville; seven grandchildren,

Rob and wife DeAnn Birt, Jason and wife Shell Birt, Ryan and wife Heather Birt, Joel Bovaird, Jill Shuler and husband Bill,

Alicia Purdum and fiance Ed Loman and Aaron Purdum; five great grandchildren, Brendon and Isaac Birt, Marcus, Kaylee and

Conner Birt; two brothers-in-law, Cleo Boltinghouse, Brownsville, Minnesota and Paul Brokaw, Lenox; two sisters, Merle

Beggs, Creston and Marjorie Evans and husband Leo, of Texas.

Preceding Thelma in death were her parents George and Mary; sister Juanita and husband George Sweeney; sister

Georgia and husband Don Stoaks; sister Helen Brokaw; brother-in-law Don Beggs; sister-in-law, Juanita

Boltinghouse and two grandchildren.

Phyllis Boyer, 868 W. Olive Avenue, Monrovia, CA. 91016 passed away at the age of 84 years on Friday October

1, 2004 .

Survivors include her husband Willis, daughter Gay and her husband Al Kennedy; son-in-law, Terry Cheraz and

several grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter Deana Cheraz. Her funeral will

be October 9, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. at the Live Oak Chapel Cemetery, near Monrovia, CA.

Eckels, Lew -

Funeral services for Lew Eckels, age 88, of Lenox, who died Saturday, October 2, 2004 were held Tuesday, October

5, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at the Lenox United Presbyterian Church. Interment was held in the West Fairview Cemetery

in Lenox. Memorials can be directed to the Lenox United Presbyterian Church. Arrangements were entrusted to the

Ritchie Funeral Home of Lenox.

Lew Eckels was born October 13, 1915 in Raymore, Missouri the son of Warren Elsworth Eckels and Eleanor Osla

Huxtable Eckels. At a young age, Lew and his family moved to the Lenox area to live on a farm four miles north of

Lenox. He attended rural school and later graduated from the Lenox High School with the Class of 1932 and then

attended one year of Junior College in Creston. On August 24, 1936 he was united in marriage to his 'high school

sweetheart' Verlee Gordon, in Boulder, Colorado. Lew continued to help his family farm and in 1938, he and Verlee

built a new home on the family farm. They continued to live on this farm which had been designated a 'Century Farm'

having been in the family for over 125 years, until 2003 when they moved to the Vintage Park Apartments.

Lew loved farming and the lifestyle it provided. He was a steward of the land, active in tiling, terracing and crop

rotation. He enjoyed raising livestock and was an avid outdoorsman. He also spent time woodworking, always being

very handy and able to fix just about anything that needed fixing.

Even in later years, Lew's memory was always sharp.

He enjoyed being around people and was always willing to help his fellow neighbor. He enjoyed sports and was an avid

Iowa Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs fan. He was a member of the Lenox United Presbyterian Church where he was always

active in church activities and serving on various committees. He was also a member of the American Breeder's Service.

Left to cherish Lew's memory are his loving wife Verlee Eckels of Lenox; three children, Carole Lea Kraber and

husband Don of Ankeny, Iowa; Jean Spicer and husband Doug of Atlantic; and Dean Eckels and wife Colette of

Littleton, Colorado; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren along with many other family members and friends.

Preceding Lew in death are his parents, a daughter Helen Louise in 1982; a brother Don Eckels and a sister Flora Saccaro.

Hewitt, James Reldon -

Funeral services for James Hewitt, age 76, of Creston, formerly of Lenox, who died Sunday, November 21, 2004 at

the Greater Community Hospital in Creston were held Wednesday, November 24, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at the United

Methodist Church in Lenox. Interment with military rites accorded by the Parkinson American Legion Post No. 250

were held in the North Fairview Cemetery in Lenox. Memorials can be given in his name. Arrangements were

entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Lenox.

James Reldon Hewitt was born December 6, 1927, on a farm 5.5 miles northeast of Lenox to Ray Charles Hewitt

and Beatrice Denhart Hewitt. He grew up on the family farm, attended the Grant Country School, and then graduated

from the Cromwell High School with the Class of 1945. After graduation he farmed with his father. In February of

1946, he entered the United States Navy and after his discharge, he returned home. On March 20, 1949, he was

united in marriage to Lois Brown in Creston.

The couple lived in Ringgold County for a year, then moved back to Lenox, farming north of town. To this loving union

David, Daniel and Doug were born. Together the couple farmed for over fifty-five years before moving to Creston.

James was passionate about his community and was involved in many areas. He liked being around people and

had a soft spot for little kids, and thoroughly enjoyed holding babies. He loved being a farmer and the life style

it provided. He led by example, and in the early 1960's the family took a three week tour of California. Together

they shared many trips throughout the years.

James was a long-time active member of the Lenox United Methodist Church where he served on various

committees; he was a member of the Parkinson American Legion Post No. 250 in Lenox; the VFW in Creston; had

served on the Lenox School Board and was instrumental in getting the new high school built; from 1964 to 1976 he was

involved in the Rural Water Association; the Adams County 4-H; and the Adams County Extension Service.

Survivors include his loving wife Lois Hewitt of Creston; three sons, David James Hewitt and wife Pamela of

Omaha, Nebraska; Daniel Norman Hewitt and wife Jill of Austin, Minnesota; and Douglas Ray Hewitt and wife Lisa of

Urbandale, Iowa; two sisters, Virginia Davis and husband Keith of Huntsville, Alabama; and Phyllis Ferguson and

husband Dale of Harlingen, Texas; eight grandchildren Stacey Ganda and husband Jack of Suwanee, Georgia; Leslie

Fennell and husband Aaron of Omaha, Nebraska; Tara Hewitt of Kansas City, Missouri; Scott Hewitt of Omaha,

Nebraska; Joseph Hewitt, Carolyn Hewitt and Danielle Hewitt, all of Austin, Minnesota; and Mackenzie Hewitt of

Urbandale, Iowa; and two great-grandchildren, Rasheed Ganda and Alivia Fennell.

His parents, Ray and Beatrice Hewitt, preceded him in death.

Johnston, Merna Vivian -

Merna Vivien Johnston, 90, Creston, died November 14, 2004 at the Crest Haven Care Center, Creston, IA.

Miss Johnston, daughter of Veril and Mary Estes (Baker) Johnston, was born July 13, 1914, near Shannon

City, IA. She passed away November 14, 2004 at the Crest Haven Care Center in Creston. She graduated from

the Mount Ayr High School in 1931, then began teaching at the Eighme country school North of Mt. Ayr in 1933.

She also taught at Jefferson and Lincoln Township schools before teaching in Henderson, Macedonia, Clarinda

and Newton. After teaching 48 years (23 of those in Newton), she retired to Creston.

In 1958 Merna was presented the Willard J. Combs Aerospace Award, the first Iowan to win this award. She was

named Woman of the Year by the Creston Business and Professional Women.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, Creston, Business and Professional Women, Creston Area

Retired Teachers Association, and Book Club. She enjoyed painting, reading, doing crossword puzzles, and traveling

throughout the United States to visit relatives and friends.

Merna thoroughly enjoyed teaching her students. After retiring, she continued to enrich her own curiosity and

develop her talents. She could play the piano and paint outdoor scenes on canvas. Her free spirit and love of a

challenge motivated others.

Survivors include sister-in-law Rhoda Johnston, Diagonal; and many nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and

nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Vern Johnston, Sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Horace

Nelson, and brother and sister-in-law Myron and Cuma Johnston.

The services were held at the First Christian Church, Clearfield, on Thursday, November 18, 2004 at 10:30 a.m.

The Rev. Eydic Stephens and Rev. Ron Ritchey officiated. The music was provided by Sherry Nelson and The

Caswell Family.

The Casket Bearers were: Scott Johnston, Shawn Johnston. Curt Johnston, Tony Johnston, Trent Johnston,

Kelly Johnston, Joe Stilwell, Rob Johnston, Rick Stilwell, Andy Johnston. Nick Nelson, Eric Johnston, Christopher

Nelson, Todd Huffine, Clifford Nelson, and Lance Huffine.

Internment was at the Clearfield Cemetery, Clearfield.

Nook, Clifford Albert -

Funeral services for Clifford Nook, age 77, of Creston, who died Monday, November 1, 2004 at Greater Community

Hospital in Creston were held Friday, November 5, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Creston.

Interment was held in the North Fairview Cemetery in Lenox with military rites accorded by the Parkinson American

Legion Post No. 250. A memorial fund has been established in Clifford's name. Arrangements were by Ritchie Funeral

Home of Lenox.

Clifford Albert Nook, the oldest child of Ernest and Wilma (Bell) Nook, was born near Sidney, Iowa, on November

29, 1926. He spent his early childhood years in the Hamburg, Iowa, area. In 1939, the family moved to a farm

southwest of Lenox. Cliff graduated from Sharpsburg High School in 1944.

Cliff served in the U.S. Army from March 15, 1945, until January 1, 1947. He was a labor foreman for Japanese prisoners

of war in the Philippines and served as a machine gunner during the Korean occupation. Following his discharge, he

returned to the Lenox area.

On April 30, 1950, he was married to Elizabeth Anne Beach. They lived in the Sharpsburg area where they raised their

two children, Jeanine Marie and Gregory Ernest, and Cliff farmed. In 1971, they moved to Lenox. Cliff gave up the

farming life in 1973 and worked for Lenox Municipal Light and Power, the Lenox Sale Barn, and Lenox Grain Fuels.

He and Liz were divorced in 1981.

Cliff married Janice Pauline (Mascher) Breach in Redeemer Lutheran Church, Corning, Iowa, on May 29, 1982. They

moved to their home in Creston, Iowa, in 1983. In 1986, Cliff went to work at Southwestern Community College.

He loved being around the students and was always there to listen or offer encouragement to them. In 1997, he

was presented a special award naming him Goodwill Ambassador for Southwestern Community College. After retiring

in 1999 he continued to help out at the college as an ambassador.

Cliff was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Creston and was active in the Parkinson Post of the American

Legion for many years, a long-time member of the Board of Directors for Taygold Cooperative, and a member

of several bowling teams. Cliff loved to travel and he and Janice enjoyed many trips during their time together.

Over the years Cliff enjoyed playing and watching sports and was the chief fan of his grandchildren at whatever

sport they played. He loved to play cards, was a history buff, and even wrote the history of his own life. Cliff

treasured his family and friends and felt any time spent with them was a gift. He was known for

his sense of humor and could be counted on to leave a smile on the face of anyone he talked to.

Survivors include his wife, Janice Nook of Creston; his children Jeanine and husband Tom Lynam of Lenox and

Gregory and wife Becky Nook of Parkville, Missouri: his grandchildren Ryan and Tish Lanteri of Chippewa Falls,

Wisconsin, Tony and Erin Lanteri of Smithville Missouri, Joshua Lanteri of Camel, Indiana, Jared Nook of 

Parkville, Missouri and Carissa Nook of Parkville, Missouri; his great-grandchildren, Brandon, Myah, and Cooper

Lanteri, his three brothers, Dwight and wife Shirley Nook of Lenox, Glen and wife Shirley Nook of Newton

and Jerold and wife Sandy Nook of Edgewood, Maryland; his sister Arlene Steddom of Clarinda,

Iowa; step-children Terri and husband Dennis Hudson of Des Moines, Iowa and Michael and wife

Karen Breach of Hinckley, Minnesota; step-grandchildren Thomas and Matthew Breach, brothers

and sisters-in-law Dorothy and Laverne Otte and Donald and Jean Mascher of Clarinda Agnes

and Duane Dunham and Martha and Bob Rasmussen of Omaha; two aunts Mary Mattes Bedford, Iowa, and Mane

Richards, Farragut, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Priebe, Donna Waddington -

Donna Priebe, Creston, IA. passed away Thursday, September 20, 2004, at the greater Community Hospital,

Creston. Services were held Monday, October 4, at the United Methodist Church, Creston with Pastor Clark

Finehout, United Methodist Church officiated. Burial was in the Graceland Cemetery, Creston. There was open

visitation on Sunday, October 3, from 1-5 p.m. and the family received friends from 1-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral

home.

Donna was born September 28, 1925, Colfax, IA to Claude James and Mima (Price) Waddington. She was married

to Winston Miller Priebe, June 1, 1947 in Belmond, IA. Winston pre-deceased her June 14, 1994.

The Priebe's were best known in this area as the owner/operators of the Family Shoe Store in Creston from

1950 to 1987 after which they retired and traveled extensively.

Donna is survived by her daughters and their husbands as follows: Debbie (husband Rick) Blum, Cincinnati, OH;

Denise (husband Bob) Kuhl, Creston; Pam(husband Pat) Montague, Allen, TX; Missy (husband Craig) Lamb,

Bloomington, IN.

She is also survived by her sister Joyce Castleman, Atlanta, GA.

She was pre-deceased by her parents; her husband in 1994. Three brothers: Bobby, Jim and Ray Waddington.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church; United Methodist Woman; Lady Elks: P.E.O.; Hospital

Auxiliary; Hospice Guild; Original Member of the Board of Directors of the Southern Prairie YMCA. She also

rode on RAGBRAI for several years.

She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 1 great, grandchild.

Robey, Helen Valentine Steadman -

Funeral services for Helen Robey, age 82 of Gravity, who died Wednesday, October 6, 2004 were held Saturday,

October 9, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at the Ritchie Funeral Home with Reverend William Ballard officiating. Interment was

held in the Lexington Cemetery. Memorials can be directed to the Taylor County Public Health or to Hospice

of Central Iowa. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Bedford.

Helen Valentine Robey was born May 12, 1922, in Corning. Iowa the daughter of Ralph Steadman and Jennie

O'Riley Steadman.

Helen grew up in Nodaway and went to school through the tenth grade. She met Clyde "Bud" Robey before he

was called to duty in October of 1942 for World War II. Helen waited 'impatiently" the 38 months and 5 days

Bud served in the war! They were united in marriage on April 1, 1946, in Hiawatha, Kansas soon after his discharge.

Helen and Bud lived and farmed in Taylor County all of their lives. Helen will always be remembered by family and

friends as an incredible cook. Her mashed potatoes and gravy, fried chicken and homemade rolls will be missed!

Helen also loved the outdoors. She was an avid gardener and loved her flowers. Fishing and taking long walks with her

grandchildren were some of her favorite activities. Helen was a gracious hostess to all visitors and loved her

family dearly, including her boxer dogs.

Those left to cherish Helen's memory are her son Phil Robey of Gravity; granddaughter Angic Robey-Stream and

husband Aric and great grandchildren, Palen Dawn and Dawson Robey, all of Gravity: a grandson. Larry Robey of

Cedar Rapids; and two sisters, Lorraine Foutch of Shenandoah; and Jean Hankins of Red Oak.

Preceding Helen in death are her husband Bud in July of 2000; her parents Ralph and Jennie; a stepmother

Maggie; a sister Mia and a brother, Bill.

Roe, Lucille (Lucy) Brokaw -

Lucille "Lucy" Irene (Brokaw) Roe, 82, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, October 28, 2004.

The daughter of Charles Walter and Annetta Mae (Jones) Brokaw, Lucy was born on September 5, 1922 in

rural Adams County. She grew up in Lenox and graduated from Lenox High School, 1940. She attended Simpson

College in Indianola and received her two-year teaching certificate in 1942.

She began her 32 year teaching career in Lenox, teaching third grade until 1946, then in Indianola until 1949.

In summers she supervised elementary practice teachers for Simpson College. Staying home with her children while

young, she returned to teaching in 1957 at Coin and South Page, Iowa Schools until 1961. She received her Bachelor's

Degree from Drake University in 1965. She finished her career at Dexfield in third and then first grade from 1961 to

1984, then substitute taught from 1984-1992, after retirement. Lucy was a member of Alpha Gamma Chapter of

Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.

Lucy was married to Dean "Judge" Roe on February 27, 1944. She was the chaperone and stats keeper for Judge's

school teams from 1949 to 1992.

She is survived by her husband, Judge; son, Steve (wife Lindi), Dea Moines, daughter Jan (husband Gary) Schirm,

Waukee; grandchildren Sarah (husband Kevin) Zdenek, Des Moines. Lantz Roe and Cale Roe, Chicago, Jeff Schirm,

Waukee and Jeremy Schirm, West Des Moines; great granddaughter Fiona Zdenek, born October 25, 2004; two

sisters and five brothers, Lois (husband Shorty) Brown, Glen (wife Liz) Brokaw. Paul (wife Marilyn) Brokaw, all of

Lenox; sister-in-law, Lola Brokaw, Lenox, Kate Gavend, Denver. CO., Harold Brokaw, Des Moines, Frank (wife

Susie) Brokaw, South Bend, IN., Charles (wife Kate) Brokaw. Cedar Rapids, and a host of in-laws, cousins,

nieces, nephews and friends.

Lucy was preceded in death by her parents; brother Walter Brokaw and sister-in-law Helen Brokaw.

In lieu of memorials, Lucy would love for you to give a book to a child. She loved life, teaching children, playing and

watching sports, her flower gardens and her family. In 1991 Governor Branstad presented her with the State of

Iowa Certificate of Recognition for her ability to teach a lesson to a second grader in such a way that he was able

to use the knowledge, to save a life.

Funeral services were held, Monday, Nov. 1. 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at the Lenox United Methodist Church with Rev.

Gerry Kahler, officiating. Music coordinator was Diana Maharry.

Casket bearers were Jeff Schirm, Kurt Brown, Jeremy Schirm, Lantz Roe, Cale Roe, and Kevin Zdenek.

Interment was in the North Fairview Cemetery in Lenox.

The Ruppert Funeral Home, Stuart, was in charge of the arrangements.

Scott, Wilma C Carey -

The following information came from the Moser Memorial Chapel. Fremont, NE.

Wilma C. (Carey) Scott, passed away at the A. J. Merrick Manor, Fremont, NE., Wednesday, October 13,

2004. at the age of 82 years. She was the daughter of Ivan and Mary (Andrews) Carey. She grew up in Lenox

and was a 1940 graduate of Lenox High School. She attended Tarkio College, Tarkio, MO and graduated in 1944.

She taught high school in Dows, IA. for two years and then moved to North Bend. NE in 1946. She married

R. Willard Scott, August 8, 1946 at Lenox, IA. They were the parents of two sons and one daughter.

They farmed NW of North Bend until retiring in 1986 when they moved to Fremont in 1987.

She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Fremont and was a member of the Church circle and Presbyterian

Women: a former member of United Presbyterian Church at North Bend, and a member of the Church circle and

Presbyterian Women and served as an elder and taught Sunday School. She was a former member of the

Presbyterian Church. Lenox, IA.: She was a 60-year member and Past Matron of Ruth Chapter #l 19, Order of Eastern

Star, North Bend: 50 year member and past President of PEG Chapter. CT. North Bend. NE.

She is survived by her husband, R. Willard Scott: two sons and daughters-in-law, Rod and Barbara Scott. North

Bend and Tom and Judie Scott. Schuyler : a daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Steve Piper. Loveland. CO. seven

grandchildren and one great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ivan and Mary (Andrews) Carey: two brothers. Kenneth and Harold

Carey: and a sister. Geraldine Smoldt.

Her services were held Saturday. October 16, 2004 at 10 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church. Fremont. NE. The Rev.

William Thornton, officiated. A Prayer Service was held on Friday. October 15th at Moser Memorial Chapel, Fremont.

Visitation was on Friday from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Chapel and on Saturday at the Church one hour prior to the service.

The Pallbearers were Seth Scott. Alex and Ben Piper, Brian Bosh. Bryan Busteed. Scott Jasper and Mark Koley.

Burial was at the Woodland Cemetery. North Bend, NE.. with the Moser Memorial Chapel, Fremont in charge of

the services. Memorials may be given to the Presbyterian Church at Fremont and North Bend.

Sheridan, Loris Dean Mendenhall -

Funeral services for Loris Sheridan, age 77 of Lenox who died Saturday, October 2, 2004 at Greater Community

Hospital in Creston were held Monday. October 4, 2004 the Ritchie Funeral Home in Lenox with the Reverend Tim

Maxa officiating. Interment was held in the North Fairview Cemetery in Lenox. Memorials may be directed to the

Lenox Community Trust. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Lenox.

Loris Dean Sheridan, the daughter of Edna Dehart and James Hallard Mendenhall was born March 8, 1927 near

Hatfield, Missouri. She graduated from Lenox High School where she was one of their great basketball players

and later played AAU (college) basketball. She was a bookkeeper for Irk Blair Implement Company.

She married Gerald Sheridan on February 17, 1950 at the United Methodist Church in Lenox. They lived in Lenox

all of their married lives, where they raised two daughters, Sandy and Sue.

Loris was an avid sports fan, keeping her three grandsons on their toes with her knowledge of all the players

and stats. Her bowling buddies fondly remember her high back swing that sent her ball flying down the lanes. She won

a gold medal at the Iowa Games and enjoyed going to state tournaments. Once Loris discovered golf, she could be found

on the links all around Okoboji where she and Jerry had a summer home for many years. She excelled at golf, winning

many tournaments around the state and even hitting a hole in one! Mendy and Molly were amazed at some of Gram's

color-coordinated golf outfits while they were living at the lake with her.

Loris also spent many happy hours with her fellow ceramic artists at Patty McMath's and enjoyed creating

beautiful needlework. The grandkids love decorating their Christmas trees with the beautiful ornaments she made for

them every year. Loris' greatest joy was her grandchildren. "G.G." loved being a great-grandma to the babies. Each one

has a lifetime of memories spent playing with Gram in Lenox and Okoboji.

Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters: Sandy Sweeney and husband Steve of Lenox and Sue Sheridan and

RJ Scott of Olathe, Kansas; five grandchildren: Mendy Siembieda and husband Joe of Urbandale, Iowa, Molly

Sweeney of San Francisco, California, Joshua Sweeney and Addie Antisdel of Creston, Iowa, Aaron Fisher and Whitney

Johnson of Overland Park, Kansas, Justin Fisher of Lawrence, Kansas; and three great-grandchildren: Devin, Lauren,

 and Jayden. Brother Elvis (wife Justine) Mendenhall, sisters-in-law Betty Mendenhall and Helen Mendenhall and many

nieces and nephews.

Loris was preceded in death by her husband Jerry, sister Val (husband Alf) Craft, brothers Ivor and Victor

Mendenhall, and her parents.

Terry, Mary Lessie Key -

Funeral services for Mary Tern-, age 86. of Lenox, who died Friday, October 1, 2004 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma,

were held Wednesday, October 6. 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at the Ritchie Funeral Home in Lenox. Interment was held in the

West Fairview Cemetery in Lenox. Memorials can be directed to the Lenox Christian Church. Arrangements were

entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Lenox.

Mary Lessie Terry was born December 28, 1917 on a farm two miles north of Sharpsburg, Iowa the daughter of

Achilles S. Key and Sarah E. Coe Key. She grew up in the Sharpsburg area graduating from the Sharpsburg

High School with the Class of 1936. She then moved to Omaha, Nebraska for a couple of years.

On February 19, 1943, she was united in marriage to W. L. Terry. The couple made their home in Lenox where they owned

and operated the W.L. Terry Produce Store. In 1962, they sold their business to Mervin Shawler.

Mary and W.L. continued to farm until 1966 when they retired. W.L. passed away in 1979 and Mary continued to

live at home in Lenox until her health required her to move to Taylor Ridge and in August of 2003, she moved to Oklahoma

to be near her son Stephen.

Mary enjoyed working in her yard and garden. She was always helping others and would often volunteer her time to

various activities in town. She enjoyed playing Bingo and liked being around people. Mary was active in running the

Produce Store, helping W.L. with the bookkeeping. She truly loved her family and enjoyed being involved in their lives.

Mary was a member of the Lenox Christian Church and active in various church circles and Neighborhood Card

Clubs.

Left to cherish Mary's memory is her daughter, Bette Glennon and husband Tom of The Villages, Florida; two

sons, Bill D. Terry and wife Joan of Naples, Florida; and Stephen Terry and wife Norma of Mustang, Oklahoma; a

sister, Hattie Fuller of Clarinda; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Preceding Mary in death were her parents, her husband W.L. Terry in 1979; and eighteen brothers and sisters.

Wood, Mable Gaule -

Mabel E. (Gaule) Wood was born February 23, 1925 in rural Diagonal, to James H. and Mary E. (Perkins) Gaule.

She departed this life on October 27, 2004 in the Clearview Nursing Home, Mount Ayr.

She graduated from the Clearfield High School with the Class of 1943. In 1944 she and Howard R. Wood were

united in marriage in Baton Rouge, LA. They made their home in Clearfield where they raised their family and she

worked as a cook in the Clearview Nursing Home.

Mabel was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Clearfield as well as the Christian Church and Royal

Neighbors of America.

Surviving Mabel are her eight children; Jim Wood and wife Kathy, Brad Wood and wife Tammie, all of Colfax;

Jerry Wood, Clinton, Johne Wood, Altoona: Lori and husband Terry Danielson, Creston; Jeff and wife Cathy,

Wood, Lenox; Mary and husband Grover Mains; and Linda and husband Al Brammer, Clearfield; also a sister,

Darlene Mobley, Colfax; 21 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents: husband, Howard, 2 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters and 3 brothers.

Funeral services were held, Saturday. Oct. 30, 2004 at the Christian Church, Clearfield, with Rev. Eydie Stephens

officiated. Casket Bearers were Darin Wood, Eric Wood, Jared Mains, Brian Wood, Quincy Brammer, Red Copeland

Philip Wood, Andrew Wood, Aaron Brammer, Chris Danielson and Kurt Danielson.

Interment was in the Clearfield Cemetery.
