Andersen, Peter Walter -
Peter
Walter Andersen was born December 28, 1920, in the Walnut, Iowa area, the son
of Anton and Mildred
(Poulsen) Andersen. He graduated from Walnut High School.
Peter was in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World
War
II. Following his military service, he located in Council Bluffs, Iowa. There
he worked for the U.S. Postal Service
until
his retirement in 1972.
He
was married to Donna Marie Hiley on May 28, 1944, in
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Their union was blessed with
two
sons; James and Greg.
Following
his retirement, he and Donna moved to Florida for a couple of years.
In
1974, they moved to Lenox. Donna preceded him in death in 1980.
On
February 14, 1983, Peter married Stacia Sanders in
Lenox. They continued living in Lenox while enjoying
vacationing
in Minnesota.
Peter
was a member of Parkinson Post #250 of the American Legion of Lenox, and the
Eagles Lodge in Creston.
In
addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, a brother
Newt Andersen and an infant
brother
and a sister Mabel.
He
is survived by his wife Stacia Andersen of Lenox;
sons, James Andersen of Phoenix, Arizona, and Greg
Andersen
and wife Geri of Mesa, Arizona; step-daughters Marcia Wondra and husband Robert of Ortonville,
Minnesota
and Carole Ericksen and husband Robert of San Ramon,
California; a brother Francis Andersen and his wife
Elsie
of Harlan, Iowa; and sister Leta Mae Evezic of Council Bluffs, Iowa; a grandson Paul Andersen;
four
step-grandchildren;
and six step-great grandchildren; as well as other relatives and friends.
Funeral
services were held Thursday, September 18 at 11:00 a.m. at Coen-Beaty Funeral Home in Lenox with
Rev.
Dena Woldruff of the Lenox Christian Church
officiating. Burial was in the North Fairview Cemetery with
Parkinson
Post #250 of the Lenox American Legion providing military rites.
Those
serving as pallbearers were Wade Mills, Dave Jolliff,
Edward Evezic, Robert Erickson, Robbie Erickson, and
Lowell
Andersen.
Kathryn Wilson as organist provided the musical selections, "How Great
Thou Art", and "The Old Rugged
Cross".

Donald
Wayne Beck the son of Albert and Esther Olson Beck was born May 26, 1920, in
Sharpsburg, Iowa and
entered
into rest on September 14, 1997 at the Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa
at the age of 77 years, 3
months
and 18 days.
He
attended rural school in Sharpsburg before entering the Army. During World War
II, he served in the Medical
Corps
in both Germany and France.
On
July 9, 1945 he was united in marriage with Wilma Lorene Cox in Blockton, Iowa.
They
started farming south of Lenox in 1945 and in 1951 moved one mile further
south. Don and Lorene continued to
farm
there until retiring to Lenox in 1993.
He
was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sharpsburg. He enjoyed the
company of friends and family
and
especially enjoyed his three granddaughters.
Surviving
to honor his memory are; his daughter Cheryl (husband Herb) Schroder of North
Little Rock, Arkansas; son,
Donald
E. (wife Connie) Beck of Lenox; granddaughters, Heather and Brandie Schroder
and Natasha Beck, one brother Leroy
Duane
(wife Lula Mae) Beck of Sharpsburg, Iowa.
Preceding
him in death are his parents, wife Wilma Lorene Beck on September 16, 1994 and
brother Melvin Beck.
Interment
was in the North Fairview Cemetery in Lenox.

Raymond Dean -
Raymond
Dean Brown was born July 26, 1916, in Union county, Iowa the son of Richard and
Nettie (Dewey) Brown. He attended school
through
the 8th grade and spent his entire life in the Creston and surrounding area
where he worked as a farmer. Raymond worked hard on the farm. He picked a lot
of corn, both on his own farm and for other farmers as well.
On
November 7, 1936, Raymond was united in marriage to Edna Maxine Blair in Mt. Ayr, Iowa. To their union was born a son Gerry
and
a daughter Kathryn.
He
was a member of the Jerusalem church.
He
was preceded in death by his wife Edna on August 22, 1997, his parent, and two
brothers, Don and Everett Brown.
He
is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Gerry and Beverly Brown of Lenox, a
daughter Kathryn Steghall of Creston; three
grandchildren: Lori Goodson and her husband Alan of Lenox, Mike Brown and wife
Amy of Lenox, and Kevin Baker and wife Tracey
of
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; eight great-grandchildren: Andy and Mark Goodson, Chelsi, Heather, Robert and Brandon Brown, all of Lenox and
Ashley and Stephanie Baker of Oklahoma City, a sister Marie White of Green, New
York and other relatives and friends.
Funeral
Services were held Monday, November 3, 1997 at Coen-Beaty Funeral Home in Creston with Rev Elliott Butler, III of the
Jerusalem
church officiating.
Burial
was in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Cromwell.
Serving
as pallbearers were Alan Goodson, Mike Brown, Kevin Baker, Charlie Jackson,
William Snyder and Eric Snyder. Jean Boyd as

Vivian
attended school in Silver City, Iowa and went on to attend college in Council
Bluffs and Greely, Colo. to
become
a teacher. She taught in Mt. Vernon Country School and Silver City Public
schools..
She
moved to Glenwood with her family to open a paint and papering business in
1928.
She
was married in 1932 to Oloff W. Coffey. She resided
in Pacific Junction, Silver City, Sharpsburg, Glenwood and Council Bluffs
until
the time of her death.
She
was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers and two sisters.
She
is survived by her son, Olaf Clipson and wife Marilyn
Coffey of Council Bluffs, Iowa; three grandchildren and five great
grandchildren.
Interment
was in the Silver City Cemetery in Silver City, Iowa.

Monna (Dennis) Dille, 82 of College Springs, Iowa formerly
of Clarinda, Iowa passed away at the Community
Care
Center of Clarinda, Iowa where she had been a resident since April of 1996.
Monna was born December 8, 1914 at Lenox, Iowa the daughter of Morris Clavin Stogdill and Florence
Nealy. Monna had always been a school teacher.
Monna was married to George Dennis on June 6, 1937. He preceded her in death March of
1972. Later
she
married Glenn Dille in August of 1992 and he resides
at the Community Care Center of Clarinda.
Survivors
include her daughter Mrs. James (Vickie) Book of College Springs, IA.
Grandchildren Dennis Book,
Angela
Book-Glynn and Lezli Pelzer; great granddaughters,
Shea Mckowen and Morgan Book; brother Maynard
Stogdill of Colorado Springs, her husband Glenn Dille,
Clarinda.
She
was preceded in death by her parents, first husband George Dennis, a daughter Sharene and a

Elaine Stogdill.

Curtis Dodge entered this world in the early morning hours of Friday, February
26, 1982 in Creston,
Iowa.
He passed from this world in the early morning hours of Sunday, August 24,
1997, in Des Moines, Iowa
at
the age of 15 years, five months and 29 days.
His
most enjoyable times were spent with his parents, Karla Kay (Kniep) Hogue (husband Randy) and Darrell
Curtis
Dodge (wife Angela); his brothers Joshua Hancock and Nathan Hogue; his sisters
Nicole Hogue, Annie
Johnson,
and Jentry Johnson; his grandparents Myrna Dodge and
the late Benjamin Dodge, Donna Moore
(husband
Keith), and Ron Kniep (wife Becky); great
grandparents Eileen Matheny and the late Earl Matheny,
and
Walt and Millie Kniep; and great-great grandmother
Opal Freemyers; godparents Diane and Randy
Long;
cousins Jeremy and Heather Long; and step grandparents Bob and Neva Fisher and
Beverly Hogue.
Ben
increased the size of his family on Thursday, April 13, 1995, when he chose
Jesus Christ as his personal
savior.
On that date Ben and his dad were baptized together into the First Christian
Church in Mount Ayr,
a
decision of which both were quite proud.
He lived
in Indianola, Des Moines, Bridgewater and Clearfield before finally settling in
Mount Ayr.
Ben
left this world doing what he enjoyed best-having fun with his friends.
Unfortunately a tragic accident
cut
short the fun, but he will be fondly remembered by all those he leaves behind.
He
was laid to rest under a large oak tree on a hill in the Oak Ridge Cemetery
north of Mount Ayr on Wednesday,
August
27, 1997. Laying him to rest were Jeremy Burmeister,
Nolan Howie, Jeremy Long, B J. Poppe,
Ryan Roe, Scott
Rumple,
teammates from the 1997 Mount Ayr Raider baseball
team, and, of course, his beloved family and friends.

She was a member of the Hopkins Grove Methodist Church.

Lola
M. Lysinger was born March 5, 1913 in Lenox, Iowa the
daughter of William Harrison Reed and Edith Myrtle Hewitt.
Lola
grew up in the Creston area and attended the Creston schools, graduating in
1931. Most of her adult life was spent in
the
Creston area.
She
married Clifford Smith in 1931, in 1935 she married Earl "Snooze"
Freeman, to which she was married to for 30 years and in
1967
she married Jerry Mundell.
Lola
was a clerk at the Woolworth's Department store while she attended school.
After graduating high school she went to work for J.C. Penney's and was the
first catalog manager in the state of Iowa. Lola retired in 1972.
Lola
was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Creston, Betty Stough Circle, Sunday school teacher and was the treasurer
for
the U.T.U. Auxiliary (railroad).
Lola
died October 28, 1997, at her home in Creston at the age of 84 years, 7 months,
23 days.
She
was preceded in death by her parents, 1 sister, 3 husbands and an infant
brother.
Surviving
Lola are her daughter Pat Waibel of Creston, a
step-son Jerry Lee Mundell of Texas, a step-son Joe Lysinger (wife Sandy) of
Sacramento,
California, a sister Beulah Healey of Gothenburg, Nebraska, 1 grandchild, 4 stepgrandchildren, 1 great grandchild and 3 step greatgrandchildren, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral
services were held Thursday, October 30, 1997 at the Presbyterian Church in
Creston with Rev. Joyce Basler-Knoth and Dr. Robert
Pickerel! officiating. Burial was in the Graceland Cemetery in Creston.
Visitation was held Wednesday evening at the
Coen-Beaty Funeral Home in Creston.
Serving
as pallbearers were Karl Knock, Russ Booth, Jim Norman, Jerry Nurnberg, Frank
Gale. Honorary pallbearers were Kenneth
Petznick,
Gail Potts, Robert Custer, Harry Freeman and Milo Showers.

Margaret Ann Peak Armstrong Parsons -
Margaret Ann McAuley was
born January 7, 1937, in Kent, Iowa. She was one of three children of Lester
and Nettie (Madden) Peak. She graduated from Cromwell High School with the
Class of 1955. She went on to attend Northwest Missouri State
University and Buena Vista University.
Margaret was married on June 21, 1959 in Kent, Iowa,
to Lyle B. Armstrong. To their union was born a daughter, Monica.
She completed her student teaching in the Casey
School system. She then became a teacher for the Prescott school system for
several years.
On March 20, 1982, Margaret was married to Charlie
Parsons in Creston Iowa. They were married for ten years until his death
in
1992.
On February 4, 1995, she was married to Leo McAuley at the First Christian church in Creston. Up to
that time, Margaret had spent most of her life in the Creston and Kent areas.
Upon marriage to Leo, they made their home in Clearfield.
She had worked as a nursing home activity director
and a facility manager for Innovative Industries after finishing her teaching
career.
Margaret was a member of the First Christian church in
Creston, the V.F.W. Auxiliary, the Order of Eastern Star, Prescott Chapter, and
the Laureate Tau Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi.
She died August 26, 1997, at her home in Clearfield
at the age of 60 years, 7 months, and 19 days.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her
first husband Lyle Armstrong, her second husband, Charlie Parsons, and a sister
Mary Ellen Thompson.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband Leo McAuley of Clearfield, her daughter and son-in-law
Monica and Doug Wilson of
Kent, la.; Step children - Perry McAuley and friend Delba of Dearborn, Missouri; Timothy McAuley and wife Kristine of Dearborn, MO;

numerous stepgrandchildren; and one step
great grandchild; as well as other relatives and
friends.
Funeral services were held August 29, 1997, at the
First Christian Church in Creston with Dr. Robert Pickerell and Rev. Al Rusk officiating.
Serving as pallbearers were Max Jensen, Ross Craft,
Earl Dibel, Gary Hays, Roger Mick and Dana Larimore.
Honorary Pallbearers were Marvin Grouse, Loren Grouse, Jack Caldwell, Richard
Luther, Dean McIntire, and Bob McIntire.
Pennie Gonseth was the organist as Doug Wilson, Jim Mayne and Cindy Selim sang.
Burial was in the Morgan cemetery in rural Kent. A
memorial has been established in Margaret's name.

Shaffer,
Gilbert Dale -
Gilbert
Dale Shaffer began his life journey on December 2, 1929 in Clearfield, Iowa,
the son of John and Myrtle Shaffer and
entered
into eternal rest on September 24, 1997 at the Iowa University Hospital at the
age of 67 years, 9 months, and 22 days.
Gilbert
attended and graduated from the Clearfield High School with the class of 1948.
On
September 26, 1948 he was united in marriage with Charlene Faye Hughes at the
Little Brown Church in the Vale located in Nasha,
Iowa. Three daughters were born to this union.
His first
job was at the age of 12, working for brother-in-law, R.E. Spurrier at the Spurrier Service Station. In January 1962 he
moved his family to Colorado and worked in the field of Service Manager for the
next 10 years, at which time he returned again to
Clearfield
to manage Spurrier Service Station. He retired in
1993 following a fall from a tank wagon.
Gilbert
was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge, and the Order
of Eastern Star, all of Clearfield.
He
was the youngest of 8 children. Fern Spurrier, Louise
French (deceased), Clyde Shaffer (deceased) Irma, Margaret Henderson, Donavon
(Pete) Shaffer (Bettie), Opal McMichael (deceased), Delbert Shaffer (Audrey).
He also leaves sister-in-law Twila Wray and
husband
Bill.
His
daughters are Karla Jean Lyddon and husband John,
Teresa (Terry) Elaine Umberger and husband Brad, and
Jill Colleen Johnston and husband Dave. He has 10 grandchildren. Colin Douglas Lyddon (Sharon), Jacob Allen Umberger,
Sarah Marie Umberger Kindyall
(Thomas),
Kelly Renee Lyddon, Patricia Gail Johnston Parmenter (Shawn), Abbie Laine Umberger, Thomas David
Johnston, Aaron John Lyddon, Stephen Michael Johnston
and Tonya Elizabeth Johnston. He also has two great grandsons, Christopher
Allen Johnston and Ryan Jason Parmenter. Those left
to cherish his memory include many other relatives and friends.

services were held Saturday, September 27, 1997 at 10:00 a.m. at the United
Methodist Church at Clearfield Iowa with the Rev. Alan Rusk officiating. Music
was provided by Mrs. Dick Longfellow and Mrs. Kenny Nelson.
Casket
bearers were Dean Spurrier, Cory Spurrier,
J.B. French, Jack Jones, Alan Brown, and Kenny Nelson.
Interment
was in the West Fairview Cemetery at Lenox, Iowa with Masonic graveside rites by
Noble Lodge #458 A.F. and A.M.

Helen
Edna Trost was born on June 24, 1907, to Edgar L. and
Carrie E. French Pinney on a farm near Sharpsburg,
Iowa. She entered
into
rest on September 27, 1997, at the age of 90 years, 4 months and 3 days.
Helen
married George Trost on January 24, 1928, and for 33
years farmed the Pinney home place, where Helen was
born. In the heart of the depression years, they were blessed with two
children.
Helen
will be remembered as a loving Mom and Grandma. She was always the happiest
when surrounded by her children and grandchildren, and rarely missed a family
event. Her fondest dream came true when all of her family arrived to help her
celebrate
her 90th birthday.
Helen
was a member of the Sharpsburg Presbyterian Church, and later, after moving to
Lenox, became a member of the Lenox Methodist Church, where she was very active
in all church activities.
She
was also a member of the Eastern Star and served as a Worthy Matron in 1947.
Survivors
include her son Jack Trost (wife Jean) of Apple
Valley, California; Her daughter, Janet (husband Bill) Reed of Lenox; seven
grandchildren,
Jerry (wife Julie) Reed of Lenox, Mark (wife Lori) Reed of Lenox, Doug (wife
Kay) of Eldon, Mo., Gina Barry of Kansas
City,
Mo., Shelley (husband Dave) Carter of Lake Forest, Calif., Randy (wife Peggy) Trost of Newport Beach, Calif., and Jackie Trost of
Apple
Valley, Calif.; 10 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and many
nieces and nephews.
She
was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a sister, Wilma Nissen.
Interment
was in the West Fairview Cemetery in Lenox. Larkin-Shelley Funeral Homes of

was born in Taylor County, Iowa on September 19, 1910 to Claude Peltier and Maude Sargent Peltier. She attended rural

and High School in Lenox, Iowa, then attended, and graduated from Creston
Community College. She taught school for one and one half years.

January 11, 1931 she married Carroll E. Wainwright in the United Presbyterian
Church, Lenox, Iowa. They moved to Hill City, Kansas
that
year. In 1954 they moved to Syracuse, Kansas. Due to ill health they moved to
the High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin, Kansas
in
1985.
Survivors
are her husband, Carroll, of the High Plains Retirement Village; two sons,
Kenneth and wife, Sharon, of Bakersfield, California; Francis of Yakima,
Washington; one daughter, Barbara and her husband, Verlyn Ginther, of Garden City, Kansas; two grandsons,
Carroll and wife Tamra Ginther of Garden City, Kansas; Douglas and wife, Lisa Ginther,
Wichita, Kansas; two granddaughters, Kathleen and
husband,
Bob Taylor, Wichita, Kansas and Beth Wainwright, Campbell, California. She is
survived also by seven greatgrandchildren;
Melanie
and Matthew Taylor, Amanda, Heather, Jennifer, Ryan and Sean Ginther.
Catherine
was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Virginia Lundsberg and Barbara Palmer and a brother, Kenneth Peltier.
