Adams, Linda Lou Wilson -

Linda Lou Adams, 65, Atlantic, IA, died February 3, 2008 at Cass County Memorial

Hospital, a result of a tragic fire at her home.

She is survived by her children, Kandi, (Ben) Beaman of Earlham, Kent (Kelly)

Adams of West Des Moines and Kraig (Margo) Adams of Des Moines, a sister, Sharon

(Leonard) Adams of DeSoto, a brother-in-law, Harold Adams of Earlham and many

friends young and old. Linda also leaves ten grandchildren to celebrate her life,

Megan (Zach) Beaman-Carlson, Annie Beaman, Joe Beaman, Sarah Beaman, Taylor

Adams, Lakota Adams, Zachary Adams, Meredith Adams, Khristina Adams and

Hezekiah Adams.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Richard Wilson, a sister,

Nancy Adams, and her life partner, Gary Pearce.

Linda was the daughter of Elva Norton Wilson and Ray Wilson and granddaughter

of the late Orval and Belle Norton of Conway, and the niece of Lou Barker of

Bedford.

Allen, Alice C Nethers -

Alice C. Allen was born Jan 23, 1921 at Bedford, Iowa to Willis and Gertrude (Bradley)

Nethers. She graduated Bedford High School and later married Cecil A. Allen on Feb

15, 1947. The couple were married sixty-one years. She lived her entire life in Taylor

County, Iowa. They lived on a farm until 1989 then moved to Bedford to retire. In 2001

Alice moved to Bedford Nursing & Rehab until she passed away Feb 18, 2008 at the age

of 87.

Alice was a member of the Bedford United Methodist Church for seventy-one years.

She loved quilting, gardening, canning and camping - having been a long time member of

Good Sam's Club.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law, Tom Fort.

She is survived by her husband, Cecil Allen of Bedford, IA; three sons: Howard Allen

and wife Marilyn of Bedford, IA, Lyle Allen of Bedford, IA, and Elvin Allen and wife

Kimberly of Bedford; sister, Marilyn Fort of Clarinda, IA; grandchildren: Heather

Osburn and husband Tony of Clarinda, IA, Sean Allen and wife Alisa of Springfield, MO,

Ashley Turner and husband Tyler of Hopkins; and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Thursday, February 21, 2008 at the Bedford United

Methodist Church with Rev. Tim Rieckhoff-Faris officiating.

Interment was at Bedford Fairview Cemetery. Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel of

Bedford was in charge of arrangements.

Anderson, John T -

John T. Anderson, 98, Maryville, Missouri, died Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at Parkdale

Manor Care Center in Maryville, Missouri. He was born September 12, 1909 near

Hopkins, Missouri to Ulysses A. Anderson and Georgia Ann Stults Anderson.

He attended Clyde School, and graduated from Hopkins High School with the class of

1928. On September 15, 1935 he and Eva Leota Bonham were married in St. Joseph,

Missouri. They lived on their family farm southwest of Hopkins for nearly fifty years,

moving to Maryville in 1984. He was a member of the Christian Church in Hopkins.

Mr. Anderson was preceded in death by his wife; by his parents; by two brothers,

Earl M. and Ralph N., by three sisters, Opal E. Holt, Mildred M. Anderson, and

Dorothy D. Pratt and by two infant siblings.

He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Raymond (Patricia) Snyder, of Bedford,

Iowa; by two sons, Roger of Maryville and Ronald of Kansas City, Missouri; by four

grandchildren, Michael Snyder of Round Rock, Texas; Michelle Iglehart of Blue

Springs, Missouri, Susan Rowe of Bedford, and Rene O'Riley of Hopkins; ten

greatgrandchildren: and two great great grandchildren. Surviving nieces are

Marilyn Atchison, Holt's Summit, Missouri and Barbara Swaney, Sioux City,

Iowa.

Mr. Anderson was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He will be

sadly missed by his family and his many friends.

Graveside services were held Thursday, March 6, 2008 at the Nodaway Memorial

Gardens in Maryville. Memorials may be made to the Hopkins Christian Church.

Byrn, Ethel Mae Wake -

Ethel Mae (Wake) Byrn was born October 9, 1911 in the rural community of

Isadora, MO, the daughter of Frederick W. Wake and Lena B. (Whitaker) Wake.

She left this life February 6, 2008 in Des Moines, IA. She grew up attending

country school in Worth County, MO, graduating from Sheridan, Missouri High

School. On June 9, 1934 she was united in marriage to Rawleigh H. Byrn in Bethany,

MO. Born to bless this union was a daughter, Wanda Virginia. Rawleigh and Ethel

farmed in the area until they moved to Des Moines, IA in the late 40's.

Ethel worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. until her retirement. In

their younger years Ethel and Rawleigh loved to dance. Ethel was an avid reader,

a wonderful homemaker, and provided many wonderful meals for family and friends.

She especially enjoyed her daughter and her family, which included five

grandchildren. She was a wonderful "Auntie" to her nieces and nephews.

When her health failed and she became unable to care for herself, she went

to live with her daughter and son-in-law, who cared for her the last years

of her life.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Wanda Anderson and husband,

Phil, Des Moines, IA; grandchildren, Greg Anderson, Dallas, TX; Michelle

(Anderson) Butler and husband Todd; Randy Anderson and wife Stephanie,

Rochelle Anderson and Ryan Anderson, all of the Des Moines area;

great-grandchildren, Nicholas Butler, Jamie and Brandan Anderson; many

nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law Freda Corbin. Preceding her in

death were her parents, Fred and Lena, husband, Rawleigh, brother, Donald

Wake, and sister, Helen Johnson.

She leaves us with wonderful memories as a loving wife, mother, grandmother,

aunt, and friend. She loved her Lord and her life was a living testimony to

this. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Cordell, Doyle Laverne -

Funeral services for Doyle Cordell, age 75 of Athelstan, who died Thursday,

February 21, 2008 at his home were held Monday, February 25, 2008 at 2:00

p.m. at the Ritchie Funeral Home in Bedford. Interment was held in the Athelstan

Cemetery. Memorials can be given in Doyle's name. Memories can be shared with

Doyle Laverne Cordell was born November 23, 1932, in Athelstan, Iowa the son

of John Cordell and Juanita (Rusco) Cordell. He grew up attending rural schools.

He was a lifelong Athelstan resident working as a carpenter and doing general

labor work. In 1988, Doyle met Alberta Young and on February 16, 1989, the couple

was united in marriage in Blockton. Together they made their home in Athelstan

until her death in October of 2007.

Doyle continued to live in Athelstan until his death. Doyle served in the United

States Air Force from 1952 to 1954, earning the National Defense Service

Medal and the Occupation Medal, Germany.

Doyle and Alberta loved country and western music, not only listening to it, but

dancing as well. He enjoyed hunting and fishing when ever time allowed. Doyle

professed a Christian faith.

Left to cherish Doyle's memory is a brother, Kelly Cordell of Athelstan; along

with several other family members. Preceding Doyle in death were his parents;

his wife Alberta in October of 2007; two sisters, Colleene Fleetwood Dillon and

Geraldine Young; two brothers, Gene Cordell and Leonard Cordell.

Davis, Herman (Butch) Norvell -

Funeral services for Butch Davis, age 71, of Lenox, who died Monday, March 3, 2008

at the Lenox Care Center were held Sunday, March 9,2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ritchie

Funeral Home in Lenox. Interment was held at the. West Fairview Cemetery in Lenox

on Monday, March 10, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. Memorials can be given in his name. Memories

Herman "Butch" Norvell Davis was born January 20, 1937, in Taylor County, Iowa

the son of Melvin Marion Davis and Gladys Leah (Gold) Davis. He grew up attending

school in Taylor County where he lived most of his life. On July 14, 1970, he was

united in marriage to Lillian Lois Tice in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Butch was a member

of the Lenox United Presbyterian Church.

He worked for George Barrans & Sons and later had worked in Montana on a

ranch. He also worked road construction for several years.

Butch loved car racing and the dirt track in Corning, and he also loved driving

his car around town. Butch was a very loving uncle to his many nieces and

nephews, always wanting them to come and visit, even stay a few days!

Left to cherish his memory are two brothers, Roquel Davis and wife Sandy of

Lenox; and George Davis of Lenox; two sisters, Marton McMahill and

husband Rex of Ankeny, Iowa; and Patty Shafar and husband Elvin of Bedford;

along with many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Preceding Butch in death were his parents, Melvin and Gladys Davis; his wife

Lillian; and a sister, LaVon Vest.

Haney, Alice Lucielle -

Alice Luciclle Hancy, 90, of Des Moines died Sunday, February 24, 2008 at

the Fleur Heights Care Center. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday,

February 27, 2008 at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th

Street; visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Burial

will take place in Elm Grove Cemetery.

Alice was born June 7, 1917 in Burlington. She worked for Don's Super Valu

as a cashier. She enjoyed volunteering for Weeks Jr. High, doing ceramics,

being with her dogs, but most of all she enjoyed her family.

Alice is survived by her daughter Barbara (Paul) Monk of Des Moines; her

brother Gene (Virginia) Miller of Florida; her grandson Terry (Monica) Monk

of Des Moines; her greatgrandchildren, Isabella, Abigail, and Ethan; and

numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband

Bill, her sisters Maty and Lois; and her brother, Andy.

Hardisty, Rose Coryle Scofield -

Graveside services for Rose Hardisty, age 89 of Gravity, who died Friday,

February 22, 2008 at the Bedford Nursing & Rehab Center were held Saturday,

March 1, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Washington Cemetery in Gravity. Memorials

Rose Coryle (Scofield) Hardisty was born November 27, 1918, near Gravity in

Taylor County, Iowa the daughter of Glenn Douglas Scofield and Vinnie Elizabeth

(Johnson) Scofield. She grew up attending rural schools in Taylor County,

graduating from the Gravity High School with the Class of 1940. Before Rose

was out of high school, she began caring for families who were sick and doing

house work. Later in life, Rose did a lot of babysitting, some of the children

still think of her as their 'grandma'. On August 27, 1944, Rose was united in

marriage to Ivan George Hardisty at the Gravity parsonage. Two daughters,

Jean Kay and Joan Marie, were born to bless their lives.

Together Rose and Ivan lived on several farms in the area. They also had a feed

store in Gravity. Rose was always Ivan's 'right hand man' both on the farm

and at the feed store. She loved sewing clothes for her daughters while

they were young. She also tended a large garden and raised many chickens!

Rose was a member of the Gravity Christian Church, teaching Sunday school

and was an officer in the Ladies' Aid. She was a member of the Gravity

American Legion Auxiliary, the J.F.F. Club and the Sunnyside Club in Lenox.

When the girls were young, and members of the Lenox 4-H Club, Rose

served as a Leader.

Left to cherish Rose's memory are her two daughters, Jean White and

husband Steve of Hinkley, California; and Joan Stephenson of Davenport,

Iowa; four grandchildren, Teresa Hansen and husband Lewis; Dustin Olson

and wife Tina; Brianna Kelly and husband Chris; and Mitchell Stephenson; six

greatgrandchildren, Lewis Earl Hansen and wife Stacy; Brandi Lyn Hansen;

Amanda Rose Hansen; Ayden Kelley; Rachel Anderson; and Monte Stockdale;

one great-great grandson, Adiah Stockdale; a sister, Myrtle Squier of Tarkio,

Missouri; a sister-in-law, Joanne Scofield of Clarinda; a niece, Virginia Neve

Squire; six nephews, Frederick Squier and wife Sharley; Gaylan Scofield

and wife Marsha; Elton Scofield; Doug Scofield; Mike Scofield and Dick

Jenkins along with many other relatives and friends.

Jenkins, Ralph Lavon -

Ralph L. Jenkins, age 79, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2008

at the Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska after a brief illness.

Ralph Lavon Jenkins was born March 29, 1928 in Athelstan, Iowa the son of Calvin and

Ruby (Scott) Jenkins. He was raised in Athelstan and attended school at Blockton where he

graduated in 1944. He was united in marriage to Donna Terry on May 7, 1950 in Bedford,

Iowa. They moved to Red Oak in 1956 where Ralph worked for Phillips 66 and later worked

for Montgomery County retiring in 2008 after thirty years of service.

He loved to play his guitar and sing, play cards and cribbage, hunt mushrooms,

fish and hunt, make up poems about family and friends, tell jokes, as well as tease his

grandkids and great grandkids.

His wife and family were his life and he loved to spend all of his spare time with them. He

also enjoyed sitting by his pond and feeding his Koi fish.

Ralph was preceded in death by his parents and his sister: Kay Rector. Survivors

include his wife: Donna Jenkins of Red Oak, Iowa; sons: Craig Jenkins and wife

Susie of Bakersfield, California and Scott Jenkins and wife Ann of Red Oak, Iowa;

daughters: Chris Jenkins of Bellevue, Nebraska; Cathy Drake and husband Bob of Red Oak,

Iowa; and Debbie Cunningham and husband Glenn of Monroe, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 12

great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held 2 PM Sunday, February 24, 2008 at the Nelson-Boylan-

LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Len Taylor officiating.

Johnson, George W -

George W. Johnson, 89, of Nodaway, Iowa died Friday, February 29, 2008, at his home

south of Nodaway.

George was born May 7, 1918, to Calvin Wesley and Sarah Emma (Holland) Johnson in

Guss, Iowa, one mile west of his current residence. He attended Weston Country School,

in Nodaway Township of Taylor County through the 8th grade.

He was united in marriage to Iva Lucille Blacklock on October 7, 1943 in Little Rock,

Arkansas, just prior to being sent to Ascension Island on the Southern Atlantic Ocean

where he served as a baker in the U.S. Army. Upon his discharge he returned to his lifelong

occupation of farming always within one mile of his birthplace. He was a member of the

Maple Grove United Methodist Church of Guss, Iowa.

George was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lucille in 2006, brothers Floyd and

wife Leona Johnson, Albert and wife Mary Johnson, Francis Johnson, Delbert Johnson

and Wilbur Johnson and son-in-law Clifford Koch.

George is survived by his children: Donald Johnson and wife Lilian of Ames, Iowa; Carol

and husband Terry Krone of Denver, Colorado; Kay and husband Gilles St. Pierre of

Montreal, Quebec, Canada; Joyce Koch of Omaha, Nebraska; Keith Johnson and wife

Denise of Mission, Kansas; Jan and husband Steve Rawson of Colorado Springs,

Colorado; Kurt Johnson and wife Deanne of Gravity, Iowa; and Chris and husband

Timothy Howe of Russellville, Arkansas; eleven grand children: Lynnay and husband

Erich Kites of Story City, Iowa; Darren Johnson and wife Sarah of Ames, Iowa;

Coquina Koch of Omaha, Nebraska; Regina Quaas and husband Michael of Shawnee,

Kansas; Jeremy Johnson and wife Tracy of Dallas, Texas; Heidi Johnson of Mission,

Kansas; Hannah and John Rawson both of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Justine,

Michael and Natalie Johnson all of Gravity, Iowa; five great grandchildren: Isaac,

Funeral services were held Friday, March 7, 2008, at the Maple Grove United

Methodist Church in Guss, Iowa with interment in the Guss Cemetery.

Mascher, Mary Jean Ray -

Mary Jean Ray was born December 25, 1927 at Athelstan, Iowa to Harry Oliver and

Marjorie Ethel (Stephens) Ray. Jean passed away Sunday night, February 24, 2008 at

Clarinda Regional Health Center, Clarinda, Iowa, following an extended illness.

Jean graduated Bedford High School and Normal Training and was a teacher for one

year. She left teaching to marry Donald Mascher July ,28, 1946 at the Methodist

Church in Bedford. The couple moved to East River Township southeast of Clarinda

to farm, then to Villisca to farm for the Tyler family, later settling in Nodaway

Township north of Clarinda where they lived until Jean moved into Westridge

Quality Care & Rehab in Clarinda in July 2004.

Jean was baptized November 29, 1946 and Confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran,

December 10, 1946 after she was married. She was a member of the church's

Ladies Aid, quilting circle, Lutheran Laymens League, and helped with the chicken

dinners served at Immanuel in previous years. She was also a local Avon

representative, helped Donald with the Cargill Seed dealer bookkeeping, and

was a farmwife with the usual activities of gardening and raising chickens. She was

especially fond of making cookies for all the grandchildren and enjoyed their

visits on the farm and at the care facility. She will be missed by all her family

and friends.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, one infant grandchild, grandson Paul

Mascher, two infant great grandchildren, and sisters, Betty Martin and Ellen

Finckbone and brother-in-law Andy Finckbone.

She is survived by her husband Donald of Clarinda; Chester Mascher and wife

Marilyn of Clarinda and Maxine Bohannon and her husband Bud of Des Moines,

Iowa, Marvin Mascher and his wife Sherill of Clarinda, and Judy Straw and her

husband Gene Sr. of Shenandoah, Iowa; sixteen grandchildren; twenty great

grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and brother-in-law Bill Martin of Missouri.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at Immanuel

Lutheran Church with Rev. Lawrence Boye and Rev. Michael Breach officiating.

Interment was at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Immanuel Lutheran Church Memorial Fund for

a handicap restroom. Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel was in charge of

arrangements.

Mauderly, Jean Muriel King -

Memorial services for Jean Mauderly, age 85 of Bedford, who died Tuesday, February

26, 2008 at Bedford Nursing & Rehab were held Saturday, March 1, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at

the Faith Baptist Church in Bedford. Interment of ashes was held in the Guss Cemetery.

Jean Muriel (King), Mauderly was born May 22, 1922, in Stevens County, Minnesota the

daughter of Frank King and Minnie (Friedrick) King. As a young; child, she and her family

 moved to southwest Iowa, growing up in the Villisca area, graduating with the Class of

1938. She taught country school for two years before being united in marriage to

Corwin Mauderly on November 28, 1940, in Maryville, Missouri. To this loving union

six children were born. After Corwin was discharged from the service in 1946, the

family moved to Taylor County where they farmed west of Bedford.

Corwin passed away in June of 2001, and Jean moved into Bedford in 2002.

In 1967, Jean attended nursing school in Clarinda where she obtained her LPN

Degree, having worked in area care facilities and had been a nurse for Dr. Jones

in Bedford until his death.

She enjoyed playing all types of card games with her family and friends.

Jean was a great cook and her home was always open to anyone who came to visit.

When younger, Corwin and Jean really enjoyed square dancing and in later years,

had a passion for bowling, both in leagues and tournaments. They also enjoyed

traveling, having taken many great trips together. Jean loved and enjoyed her

children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She attended the First Baptist

Church in Bedford.

Left to cherish Jean's memory are her six children, Jerry Mauderly and wife.

Carolyn of Bedford; Karen Jackson of Osceola; Phyllis Traster and husband Jack of

Osceola; Donna Melvin and Terry Henson of Blockton; Diane Scotton and husband Ed

of Bedford; and Wade Mauderly and wife Raman of Bedford; a sister-in-law, Arlene

King of New Market; seventeen grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren,

along with many other relatives and friends.

Preceding Jean in death are her parents; her husband Corwin in 2001; two brothers,

Dale and Ross King; and two sisters, Blanche Scharff and Elsie Skelton.

Meier, Elizabeth (Betty) Patricia Wagner -

Mass of Christian Burial for Betty Meier, age 68, of Lenox who passed away

Thursday, February 28, 2008 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa were

held Monday, March 3, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lenox.

Interment was held at the East Fairview Cemetery in Lenox.

Elizabeth (Betty) Patricia Meier was the only child of Benjamin Wagner and Jarvis

(Cruckshank) Wagner of St. Louis, Missouri. She was married to Joseph H. Meier in

1957. They relocated to Lenox, Iowa from St. Louis, to be near Joe's closest

sister Goldie Stapleton and husband Walter. Betty and Joe enjoyed a new start

in Lenox. She left the city to find arms open and a wonderful welcome in this new

community. This place provided beautiful scenery, and she cherished the welcome to

her and her family.

During the years, her life was very full in Lenox. Betty and Joe were raising their

four children. They enjoyed all the celebrations of parenting and were proud of

their accomplishments.

Betty was always a devoted mother and became an awesome grandmother. Her

employment in Lenox was for a brief time at the Lenox School System before

she began her career of 26 years as a certified med. aide. Betty gave excellent

nursing care to the residents as she loved each one of them. Many times she would

bring someone home to share in our family holiday.

Her faith in God guided her life. She often reminded us that life is too short

and that conflict only shortens it more. Her personal relationship with Jesus

was expressed through her life culminating in her Baptism and Confirmation

into the Catholic Church. She enjoyed performances by grandchildren, daughter,

and herself as she frequently sang "God Bless America" at events.

She loved travel trips to Arizona, Las Vegas. East Coast and the breath taking

view from the top of the Empire State Building. She enjoyed growing roses,

caring for her home, collecting favorite items, playing cards, cooking, picnics,

and time with her dog, Rocky. She loved and enjoyed friends, especially her

neighbor Sandra. She had admiration and appreciation for the medical staff

and all care givers who gently and lovingly cared for her.

Her life is celebrated by her four children, daughter Cathy (Meier) and

Dan Bagley of Nevada, Iowa: sons. Joseph of Lenox, Iowa; Walter of Arizona;

Ben and Cheryl Meier, Lincoln, Nebraska; Her grandchildren Heather and

Danny Bagley, Jennie Meier, Kevin Royalty, Tyler and Brycin Miller.

Proceeding Betty in death are her parents Benjamin and Jarvis, husband

Joe, companion Wayne McDonald, many aunts and uncles, cousin, in-laws

and very dear friends.

She will be missed, her memory will live on and her presence will fill our

hearts forever.

Scane, Lois A Anderson -

Funeral services for Lois Scane, age 91 of Bedford, who died Tuesday, March 4, 2008

at her home were held Saturday, March 8, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ritchie Funeral

Home. Interment was held in the Fairview Cemetery in Bedford. Memorials can be

Lois A. (Anderson) Scane was born August 11, 1916, in Gravity, Iowa the daughter

of Jimmy K. Anderson and Delia M. (Morrison) Anderson. She grew up attending

school in Gravity, graduating with the Class of 1933. On July 8, 1938, she was

united in marriage to Ben Scane at the Christian Parsonage in Clarinda, Iowa.

Lois and Ben lived in Colorado Springs, Colorado during World War II, doing

defense work, then moved to Bedford where they went into business opening

Scane Plumbing & Heating. In 1978, Ben passed away. Lois kept the business

open for several years with Mick Ware operating in the location.

Lois enjoyed traveling and being around people. She became the 'adopted

grandmother ' to Vic and Carole Noer's children, and she loved playing cards

and various games with them. Her motto in life was "do unto others as you

would have others do unto you." She was a long-time member of the United

Christian Presbyterian Church where she served as a Deacon. She was

also long-time member of the Order of Eastern Star, having received her

50 year pin in 1989.

Lois is survived by three nephews, Bill Perkins and wife Cheryl; Ben Perkins;

and Kenneth Anderson and wife Marilyn; two nieces, Patsy Steele and husband

Doral; and Dixie McFarland and husband Marty; along with several great-nieces

and nephews; grandchildren, Caren Scott and Vic Noer, Jr., four great

grandchildren, Megan and Andrea Scott; and Angela and Devon Noer; along

with many other friends.

Preceding Lois in death were her parents; her husband Ben Scane; two brothers,

Leslie and Virgil Anderson; a sister, Irma Perkins; a sister-in-law, LaVora

Anderson; a nephew, Bob Perkins; a niece, Neva Mae Johnson; and an adopted

grandchild, Cathy Noer.

Wright, Ethel Mae Keim McNees -

Ethel M. Wright, age 94 of Clarinda, Iowa, who died Monday, February 18, 2008 at the

Clarinda Regional Health Center, Clarinda, Iowa were held Thursday, February 21,

2008 at 10:30 a.m. at the Ritchie Funeral Home, Bedford, Iowa with Loren Daly officiating.

Visitation with the family was held 9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. prior to the service at the

funeral home. Burial was in the Washington Cemetery, Gravity, Iowa. Memorials may be

directed to Atlantic Fire Department, Clarinda R.S.V.P., or New Market Civic Club.

Ethel Mae (McNees) Wright, only child of William Franklin and Cora (Sterner)

Keim was born January 25, 1914, on her parent's farm north of Dow City, Iowa and

passed away on February 18, 2008 at the Clarinda Regional Health Center, Clarinda, Iowa

at the age of 94 years and 23 days of age.

Ethel attended Willow Township Country School in Crawford County, where she

graduated from 8th grade. On October 27, 1931, she was united in marriage to

George Eldon McNees in Tekamah, Nebraska. To this union five children were born:

Lois Marie, George Franklin, Russell Edward, Sandra Mae and Barbara Kae.

Ethel and George lived on various farms east of Bedford, Iowa from 1932 to 1939

 at which time they moved to a farm near Gravity, Iowa. In 1940, they moved

northeast of Gravity to the farm they purchased. Ethel was a homemaker

and farm wife until moving to Bedford in 1960 after she and George were divorced.

She then worked at the Clarinda Mental Health Institute until her move to Council

Bluffs, Iowa. She worked at various jobs in the area and retired as head cook

at the Iowa School for the Deaf in Council Bluffs in 1979.

She was a member of the Gravity Methodist Church until joining First Christian

Church in Council Bluffs and then later transferring her membership to the First

Christian Church in Clarinda, Iowa. Ethel was also a member of JFF, a neighbor-

hood club, while living at Gravity, and then later volunteered as an R.S.V.P. in

Clarinda. She enjoyed crocheting and quilting for family and friends.

On December 24, 1980, she married Earl Wright in Council Bluffs, Iowa and they

moved to Phoenix, Arizona where they resided until his death on December 25,

1997. She then moved to an apartment in Clarinda in 1998 and resided there

until entering Goldenrod Manor in 2004.

Preceding Ethel in death were her parents; two husbands, George E. McNees

and Earl Wright; infant daughter, Lois Marie McNees; son-in-law, Michael Ujlaky;

granddaughter, Michelle Chepak; two great grandchildren, Nancy Robinson and

Scott Richey; great, great granddaughter, Brianna Caldwell.

Ethel is survived by her children, George McNees and wife Martha of Clarinda, Iowa,

Russell (Skip) McNees and wife Julia of Atlantic, Iowa, Sandra Ujlaky of Mesa,

Arizona, Barbara Chepak and husband Robert of Hypoluxo, Florida; nine grandchildren,

Kevin McNees of Clarinda, Iowa, Julie Robinson of Bedford, Iowa, Mark McNees,

Atlantic, Iowa, Senior Master Sergeant Dale McNees of Mildenhal RAF Base,

England, Lisa Richards of Albany, California, Curtiss Richey of Fremont, Nebraska,

Debra Guerin of Mesa, Arizona, Delbert Richey of Palmer, Alaska, and Robert Chepak,

London, England; fifteen great grandchildren; ten great, great, grandchildren

and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
