Bruington, Mable Hodges -
Mrs.
Ward Bruington of Lark, North Dakota passed away at
Portland, Oregon on February 15th, 1967 at the age of 83 years. Mrs. Bruington,
formerly, Mable
Hodges,
was born and reared in the Lenox area, she being the first telephone operator
in Lenox. The telephone office was in their home which is now the Elsie Holben properly.

Carruthers, George Forrest -
George Carruthers, 63, of Cypress, California, died suddenly
of a heart attack Wednesday, March 8th. Mr. Carruthers had complained of chest pains, but went to his car to go to work as usual, and
was later found slumped over the steering wheel. An ambulance was called, but he died enroute to the hospital.
The
son of William and Sarah Carruthers, he was born and
raised on a farm south of Lenox, now known as the Wilson Longfellow place. He
graduated from the Lenox high school and attended Drake University in Des Moines.
Mr. Carruthers moved to the west coast some 36 years
ago, and has been with an insurance company for the
past
33 years.
He
was the youngest brother of William, Frank and Leo Carruthers.
Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Elsie; daughters Susan and LeAnn and
five grandchildren.
Funeral
services were held Friday March 10, at Cypress, Calif.

George Forrest -
George
Forrest Carruthers, son of William and Sarah Carruthers was born Aug. 8, 1903 in Platte Township, Taylor
County, Iowa and passed away March 8, 1967 in Long Beach, California.
George
was employed by the Prudential Insurance Co. for 36 years, four years of which
were spent in the U. S. Navy during World War II.
He
is survived by his wife Elsie; daughters, Susan of Cypress, Calif., and Lee Ann Ryden of Fullerton, Calif.; brothers Leo B. of La
Plata, Mo., and Frank Carruthers of Lenox; five
grandchildren; three nieces, and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his
parents and his brother, William.
Funeral
services were held Saturday, March 11 at Dilday Family Lakewood Chapel in Long Beach, Calif., conducted by Rev. Virgil F. Bjerke with interment in Forest Lawn, Memorial Park in
Cypress, Calif.

was born at the old Eckels farm near Lenox in Adams
County and lived in this area for many years. He was a school teacher and later
an accountant,

was at the Penny Farms following a short service there.

Fellows, of Bedford, assistant Taylor County assessor, died Tuesday afternoon
at Clarinda Municipal hospital after a short illness.
Survivors
include his wife Claire; a son, William, of Cedar Rapids; and a daughter, Mrs Jane Herron of Creston.

Phyllis
Joanne McCloud, daughter of Alberta & L. Verne McCloud, was born Oct. 4,
1930 in Hollywood, Calif., and passed away February 3, 1967.
In
May 1960 she was married to Paul Green of Los Alamitos, Calif., where they made
their home. Survivors include her husband, a son, David Wayne,
and
her mother, Mrs. McCloud.
She
was preceded in death by her father and a daughter, Denise Eileen.
Funeral
services were held Feb. 6 at Hillside Church in Whittier, Calif., conducted by
the Rev. Lester Ragland with interment in Rose Hills Memorial Park.

Genevieve Elizabeth Maharry -
Mrs.
Genevieve Hughes, 53, died Thursday, March 16th, following a lingering illness.
She was the wife of District Judge James Hughes, and had spent most of her life
in the Lenox community.
Genevieve
Elizabeth Hughes, daughter of Frank I. and Bertha Maharry,
was born on a farm in the Lenox community on May 21, 1914. She attended country
schools in the rural area of Lenox and graduated from the Lenox Public High
School in 1930. Following graduation from high school, she attended A.I.B.
Commercial School in Des Moines for one year, and then enrolled in Northwest
Missouri State Teachers College at Maryville, Missouri, where she received a teaching certificate in Elementary
Education. She taught the fourth grade in the Lenox School system for one year.
She
was united in marriage to James Hughes of Lenox on August 21, 1937. They made
their home in Wausau, Wisconsin, Grand Rapids and Detroit, Michigan until
January of 1947, when they moved to Lenox. To this union were born four
children, Mrs Jeanne Bush of Huntington Beach,
Calif., Mrs Mary Walker of Lenox and Kathy and Peggy
who reside at home.
Surviving
are her husband, James, the four daughters and her mother, Mrs. Frank Maharry, two sons-in-law, Phillip Bush, and Garland Walter,
three grandchildren, Michael and Stephen Bush, and Susan Marie Walter, and one
sister, Mrs. Kathleen Harover of Mt. Ayr.
She
was a member of HS Club of Lenox, the PEO Sisterhood, and the United
Presbyterian Church.
Funeral
services were conducted from the United Presbyterian Church in Lenox Sunday,
March 19 at 2:30 with Rev. James Eddy officiating.
Bearers
were M. J. Spicer, Ray Cheese, Keith Cash, Lowell Bush, Gerald Maharry and Leland Hegwood.
Music
was furnished by Margaret Whipp. Interment was in
Fairview cemetery.

Word
was received of the death of Victor Kelly of New Jersey. He was born in Lenox
July 8, 1894, and passed away in a hospital in New Jersey March 22, 1967.
He
graduated from the Lenox School in 1911 and from Iowa State College in 1917. He
leaves to mourn his death his wife Frances, a son Victor Jr. a daughter Carol,
three grandchildren and a sister Camilla Roar of Davenport. Until his
retirement, he was with the American telephone and telegraph Co. in New York.

Bert Edward -
Bert
Edward Knott, son of Mary Ellen and William Knott was born March 4, 1884 and
was raised in the Sharpsburg community.
He
was united in marriage to Ida Vincent, sister of Virgel Vincent of Lenox, Iowa. To this union one daughter was born. They lived in this
community many years then moved to Leoti, Kansas and
later to McAllen, Texas where he passed away after a long illness on Mar. 7,
1967 at the age of 83 years and 3 days.
He
was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Mrs. Violet Scott, Mrs.
Maude Weller and Mrs. Jessie Rice.
He
is survived by his wife Ida, his daughter, Mrs. Waunita Crouch and son-in-law Owen Crouch; also one brother Charlie Knott of Sharpsburg
and three sisters Miss Eva Knott and Mrs. Oma Eno of Lincoln, Nebr., and Mrs. Ila Smith of Sharpsburg.
Services
were held at McAllen, Texas, March 9, 1967. Internment was at Rose Lawn
Mausoleum.
Bertie
will be greatly missed by all his friends and relatives.

McKinstry, Juanita Crowell -
Mrs.
James McKinstry, 48, of Marshalltown, Iowa, died
Tuesday, April 25th, at the hospital in that city following a brief illness.
She
was the former Juanita Crowell, who lived in Lenox for a number of years. She
was a member of the Lenox Christian Church and a former teacher in
the
rural schools near this community. She later taught in Manning and Guthrie
Center. The family had resided in Keokuk, Iowa for 19 years and had only moved
to Marshalltown last August.
Survivors
include her husband James, Dean of the Junior College in Marshalltown; James,
Jr., and his wife Nancy of Keokuk, John and Mary at home, and
one
grandchild. She is also survived by a brother, Lea Crowell of Lenox, and a
sister, Mrs. Kenneth Barker of this city.
Funeral
services will be conducted Thursday at 10:30 at the First Christian Church in
Marshalltown.
A
second service will be held Friday afternoon at 3:30 in the First Christian
Church in Keokuk, Iowa, with burial in Keokuk.

and Mrs. Lea Crowell, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Barker and Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie
Barker all of Lenox plan to attend the final rites at Keokuk Friday.

services for Mrs. Myrtle Pepper, 86, who passed away March 17th in Corning were
held from the Presbyterian Church in that city March 20th. She is survived by

grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Interment was in Methodist Grove
cemetery.

Memorial
services for Garfield Arthur Pool were held at the Lenox Christian Church on
Saturday; April 8, 2:00 p. m. Rev David A. Shaeffer,
minister of the Lenox Christian Church officiating. Mrs. Irma Wilcox was
organist and Roland Buxton was soloist. Interment was in Prairie Rose Cemetery, Corning, Ia.
Garfield
Arthur Pool was born Sept. 5, 1880 on a farm 12 miles southwest of Corning,
Iowa and passed away on April 5, 1967 at the Ringgold County Hospital
after
a month's illness.
As a
young man he made his confession of Faith in the Fairview Christian Church
later transferring his membership to the Lenox Christian Church.
On
March 15, 1905 he was united in marriage to Jessie Ann Naven,
who preceded him in death on March 5, 1951.
Except
for a few years in Kansas, he lived in Taylor County at Bedford, Corning, Iowa
and the Lenox Community. He has spent the past 15 years, since the death of his
wife at Mt. Ayr.
Surviving
Mr. Pool are: one sister, Mrs. Hellen Elling of Lawton, Okla.; two sons, Cranston A. Pool of Des
Moines, Iowa; Max G. Pool of Mt. Ayr; a daughter,
Mrs. Wm. Valder of Des Moines; one grandson and 7
granddaughters.
Bearers
were: Edward Naven, Hollis Naven,
Norman Naven, Paul Fischell,
Don Tully and Lea Crowell.

Allie Rose Ingram -
Allie
Rose Ingrain was born in Cedar County, February 25, 1874, the daughter of James
J. and Ida Dudley Ingram. She came to Prescott with her parents at
the
age of one year and lived there and in the Stringtown community until moving to Arispe in 1944.
She
was married at Prescott to Jacob Pugh, who preceded her in death in 1938.
She
passed away at the Cresthaven Nursing Home in Creston
where she had been a patient for the past eight months, on April 10th, 1967 at
the age of 93
years,
1 month and 15 days. Faye, Nellie, and Roy had taken care of her for nearly two
years prior to last July.
Mrs.
Pugh is survived by four sons: Homer of Lenox; Roy of Arispe;
Lester of Phoenix, Ariz.; and Lloyd of Selma, Are.; five daughters: Mrs. Harry
(Nellie)
Penfold and Mrs. Howard (Faye) Lawrence of Corning; Mrs Ben
(Pearl) Hetland of Phoenix, Ariz.; Mrs. Edrte Kaiserlik of Cedar Falls;
and Vera in the
Cresthaven Nursing Home in Creston; a brother Arthur Ingram of Los Angeles, Calif.; 19
grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren.
She
was preceded in death by one daughter, Mrs. Irma Brown, two brothers and four
sisters.
Funeral
services were held at 2 p. m. at the Keating-McKasson Chapel at Creston April 12 with Rev. Donald Kinzler,
pastor of the Arispe Methodist Church,
officiating.
Burial
was at the Mount Zion Cemetery north of Prescott.

George Melville (Mel) -
Word
was received in Lenox Wednesday afternoon of the death G. M. (Mel) Tully. Mr Tully, with his wife, had spent the winter at the home
of their daughter, Mrs. George Boltinghouse in
Harlan, Iowa. Death occurred near the noon hour Wednesday in Harlan.
Survivors
include his wife, a daughter Edith Boltinghouse and a
grandson, Earl and family.
Funeral arrangements are pending.

Tully, George Melville (Mel) -
George
Melville Tully, the oldest son of Andrew and Mary Tully, was born in Adams
County Nov. 8, 1883 and passed away at the Harlan Myrtue Memorial
Hospital
on April 19, 1967 at the age of 83 years, 5 months, 11 days.
At
an early age he became a member of the United Presbyterian Church and spent his
entire life in the Lenox vicinity.
He
was united in marriage to Bertha May Eckels on
February 21, 1906. To this union was born, one daughter Edith Lucille (Mrs.
George L. Boltinghouse). He
was
a loving husband and father.
He
is survived by his wife Bertha, daughter Edith, and son-in-law George whom they
dearly loved, one grandson Earl Boltinghouse and wife
Joann, three great grandchildren, Jeff, Kerry, and Ginger, and foster
granddaughter Georgia, one sister, Mrs. Vern (Vera) Roll, two brothers Herb of
Lenox, and Bruce of Detroit, Michigan, and a number of nieces and nephews.
He
was preceded in death by his father, mother, and sister, Lela Long.
Funeral
services were held at 2 p. m. on Saturday at the United Presbyterian Church in
Lenox with Rev. James E. Eddy officiating.
Music
was furnished by Marlene Pugh and Barbara Long. Robert Long sang "The
Lord's Prayer" and "Ivory Palaces."
Casket
bearers were Wayne McFee, Kenneth McFee,
Donald Barker, Brice Johnson, Lewellen Eckels, and Harold Maynes.
Burial was in the Lenox Fairview
Cemetery.

George -
George Wurster, 90, of Roundup, Montana, died Friday in a
nursing home there.
He
was born Dec. 3, 1876 in Lenox and went to Roundup in 1908 working as a meat
packer. His wife preceded him in death.
Survivors
are a sister, Mrs. Lena Stamets, and a brother Fred Wurster, both of Lenox.
Funeral
services were held Tuesday in Wier Funeral Home, the Rev.
Edward Horst, of the Congregational Church officiating.
Burial
was in Roundup City Cemetery.
Pallbearers
were Howard Cordingly, Don Belcher, Clarence McKenna,
Luke Zupan, Joe Vicara and
David Murphy.
