Breach, Kenneth Marvin -

Kenneth Breach of the Sharpsburg vicinity, died Friday, July 22nd while at work. Kenneth Marvin Breach, son of Ray and Anna was born at Henderson. Iowa August

5, 1933 and was called home to heaven on July 22, 1977 at Sharpsburg, Iowa at the age of 43 He lived and grew in the Lord in Sharpsburg and he attended the public school in

Conway. On January 23, 1960 he was united in marriage to Janice Mascher at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clarinda, and they set up their home in Sharpsburg. The Lord blessed

their union with two children, Terri and Michael. Ken was engaged in farming.

He was preceded in death by his father. Ray and his brother Delmar. Left to cherish his memory are his wife and two children, his mother, one brother, two sisters, eleven nephews, nine nieces, six grandnephews, six grandnieces and many friends. Ken was a member of God at Redeemer Lutheran Church. He knew and was known by his Lord and Savior

Jesus Christ. He showed love as a father, husband, son and brother to many because Christ first loved him. He will be missed by all who knew him. We thank and praise the Lord

for placing Ken among us and we look forward to seeing him in heaven.

Services were held at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Corning, Iowa July 25 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Robert Bartel officiating.

Music was furnished by the church choir. Acting pallbearers were Russell Gordon, Roy Beck, Ronald Richie, Dale Cerven, Mark Berkland and Leonard Knott.

Flower girls were Marda Cerven and Carn Jackson.

Flag, ceremonies were performed by the Conway American Legion Post 591.

Interment was in the Conway cemetery at Conway.

Bunn, Carrie P Trost -

Carrie Bunn, 76, longtime Lenox area resident, died at Rosary hospital in Corning Aug. 18th.

Carrie P. Trost Bunn, daughter of Chris and Roxey Trost, was born April 15, 1901 on a farm near Lenox. She was 76 years, 4 mos. and 3 clays of age at the time of her death.

She was united in marriage to Norria Bunn on March 21, 1922 and to this union was born one son, Donald, who survives.

She was a member of the Lenox United Methodist Church and also of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Preceding her in death was her husband Norris in August of 1961, her parents and one sister, Annis Reynolds.

Surviving her are her son Donald, two sisters, Alta Eberle of Bedford and Martha Pfander of Corning, nieces and nephews and a host of friends. She will be greatly missed

by her neighbors and in her church.

Services were held Saturday, August 20th at 2:00 p.m. from the United Methodist Church with Rev. Floyd Newbrough officiating.

Music was furnished by Mrs. Norma Paymal.

Casket bearers were Robert Reynolds, Dick Eberle, Donald Pfander; Fred Ver Steeg; Russell Wurster and Dale Eberle.

Interment was in West Fairview cemetery.

Clayton, Della Elizabeth Graham -

Word was received Sunday by Mr. and Mrs. J. G Leckiter that their cousin, Mrs. George (Della) Clayton slept away Saturday night, Sept. 24 at the Golden Age Manor

Nursing Home in Houston, Texas and was laid to rest by the side of her brother, L. S. Graham September, 26th in that city. She was 94 years old and is survived by one son.

Robert and sister-in-law, Mrs. L. S (Oral) Graham, both of Houston, Texas and a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Harold Clayton in Creston, Iowa.

She was a former Lenox resident.

Clayton, Della Elizabeth Graham -

Della E. Clayton, longtime resident of Lenox, died in her sleep Sunday, September 25.

Della Elizabeth Graham was born December 30, 1882, in Zanesville, Ohio.

She moved to Lenox at the age of three months by wagon.

On February 22, 1910, she was married to George R. Clayton, the village mail carrier in Lenox for 28 years.

She was a lifetime member of the Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Clayton is survived by her son, Robert L. Clayton; granddaughter Cynthia Ann Keister; grandson, Mark Haynes; sister-in-law, Oral S. Graham; and daughter-in-law,

Stella Clayton.

Preceding her in death were her husband, George R. Clayton; son, Harold G. Clayton; and brother, Leland S. Graham.

She was the daughter of Thomas and Martha Hall Graham.

Cowman, Bernice Haynes -

Bernice Haynes Cowman, 70, passed away at her home in Des Moines, Iowa, Saturday, July 9th of a stroke.

A memorial service was held at Dunn's Funeral Chapel July 11th at l:00 p.m.

Survivors are her husband, Gale; daughter Karen of Colorado and son John of Tennessee, a sister, Mrs. Thelma Larimer of Stuart, brothers Harry of Oregon and Donald

of California.

Preceding her in death were an infant daughter, her parents, Mr. and Mrs Clarence Haynes of Lenox; Randall Haynes, brother of Lenox and Cleo, brother of Griswold.

Bernice was a graduate of Lenox high school.

Franklin, Donald -

Donald Franklin of Denver, Colorado, passed away Aug. 14, 1977 at a hospital in Denver following surgery. He leaves his wife, 2 sons and a daughter. He

was the son of the late Clyde Franklin of Lenox and a cousin of Mrs. Joe Neuhardt.

Gillespie, Rose Alice Kirkendall -

Rose Alice Gillespie died at the Lenox Care Center in Lenox, Iowa Sunday evening, July 24, 1977, She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kirkendall and was born at Dayton,

Wis. Her age was 89 years, 10 months and 23 days.

She was united in marriage with James Gillespie at Pawnee City, Nebr., on October 20, 1906. They made their home in southern Nebraska and Summerfield, Kansas until

they moved into Iowa in 1928. They lived in Conway, Sharpsburg and Lenox areas since 1936. She had entered the nursing home in 1971.

She was preceded in death by her husband in October of 1955, and by two daughters and one son.

She is survived by her son Clyde of Pocatello, Idaho; and a son William of Gladbrook, Iowa as well as by 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

She loved her family and friends and will be remembered for her love of writing poetry. [Poem]

Services were held Wednesday, July 27th at Larkin-Bender Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Floyd Newbrough officiating.

Music was furnished toy Norma Paymal as organist and Gwen Maynes, vocalist.

Casket bearers were Paul Chitty, Alan Curphey, Paul Oxley, Bill Beach, Duane Beck and Bill Scott.

Flower bearer—Nettie Cordell.

Interment was in East Fairview cemetery.

Hale, Wendall T (Tubby) -

W. T. "Tubby" Hale, 64, a longtime .resident of Lenox, died Friday, August 5th following a lingering illness.

Weldon (Tubby) Hale was born October 1, 1912 at Lenox, Iowa and passed away at the Rosary Hospital at Corning, at 4 p.m. August 5th, after an illness of

over 9 months.

At an early age he united with the Methodist Church and remained a member, supporting the church all of his life. He graduated from High School at Lenox in 1912.

"Tubby" has been general manager of Hales Shows of Tomorrow for over 30 years. He was a member of the outdoor Amusement Business Association and a life member of the Heart of America Showman's Club in Kansas City. He was also a member of Tremont Lodge No. 343 A.F. and A.M. of Lenox.

Those left to mourn him is his faithful and loving friend "Little Ginger" (as he always called her), his mother, Fern Hale, one sister, Gertrude Bruington, a beloved uncle, Glen Hale, one niece, Gloria Arnone and three nephews, Gordon (Skippy) Bruington, Wayne Dale Bruington and David Dee Hale, as well as several other relatives and a host of friends.

Preceding him in death, were his father, Wayne Hale on November 21st, 1946 and a brother, Lyle Hale in 1954.

Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 8th at 2:00 p. m. from the United Methodist 'Church. Rev. Floyd Newbrough, pastor of the Methodist Church and Rev. Jack

Cutbirth, pastor of the Christian Church officiated.

Music was furnished by Norma Paymal.

Casket bearers were Fred Helm, Vernal Thompson, Mike Cheese, John Hayes, Paul Calvin and Don Keast.

Honorary bearers were Geo. Grey, Bing Miller, Glenn Henderson, Donald Bubb, Gene Holben and James Calvin.

Interment was in West Fairview cemetery.

Kendall, John Milo -

John Kendall, a long time resident of the Lenox area, died September 5th after a long illness.

John Milo Kendall was born April 10, 1897 in the farm home of his parents, John and Nona Bryson Kendall, east of Hepburn, la.

He lived there until moving to a farm east of Lenox in 1940. Last year he and his wife moved to the Sunrise Apartments in Lenox.

Surviving him are his wife, Hazel and son Bill, daughter in law Muriel and five grandchildren, Bill Jr., Wendy, John, Theresa and Christopher. Surviving also are two sisters,

Florence Robinson of Hepburn and Geneva  Schmidt of St. Louis; also many cousins, nephews and nieces. John found particular joy in having his grandchildren with him.

During World War I John served with the 4th Division in France and Germany and later with the AEF in Germany before returning home. He became the first president of

the Lenox Flying Club, a group instrumental in establishing the original airport and hangers north of Lenox. An avid outdoor sportsman, he enjoyed all his good friends who

shared his love for flying, fishing, hunting and gardening.

Final rites were held on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Lenox United Presbyterian Church conducted by Rev. L. W. Mclntyre, pastor. Music was furnished by Mrs. Robert

Lockhart, organist.

Pallbearers included two older grandsons, Bill Jr., and John, George Wurster, A. A. Adolphsen, Wilson Longfellow and Royal Rusco.

Interment was in the family cemetery of North Grove, adjacent to the farm where he was born.

Kyles, Stephen M -

Stephen M. Kyles, 27, of Omaha, Nebr., died at his home on Friday, July 1st as the result of an electrical shock received from a drill he was using.

Services were held at the Faith Westwood United Methodist Church on Tuesday morning, July 5th at 11:00 a.m., with burial at Voss Mohr cemetery.

Surviving are his wife, Janet and 4 month old daughter, Shannon, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. J. Kyles and sister, Kim of Omaha, Nebr., a brother

and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Kyles and nephew Scott of Hastings, Nebr.

His parents-in-law are Mr. and Mrs. Gene Holben of Lenox.

McKay, Netha Neola Akers -

Netha Neola Akers McKay, daughter of Neal and Elsie Piper Akers, was born near Gravity, Iowa, November 28, 1910, and departed this life at her home in Sharpsburg,

Iowa, August 1, 1977 at the age of 66 years 8 months and 3 days.

She grew to maturity in the community where she was born where she attended the rural school and Sharpsburg High School.

On October 12, 1927, she was united in marriage to W. Lester McKay at the home of the bride's parents. They farmed and lived in Taylor County all of their married

life and moved to Sharpsburg in 1958 where they have since continued to reside. She was employed by the Sharpsburg and Lenox Community School Hot Lunch Program until ill health caused her to retire after 18 years of service.

Five children were born to bless their home and to share their love.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Merle Akers and a grandson, Glen Darrell Bolinger.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, W. Lester McKay of the home; two sons and three daughters: D. Lester (Mac) McKay and his wife, Mary Florence of Corning, Iowa; Rosalee Bolinger and her husband Weldon of Mt. Ayr, Iowa; Shirley Jean Lawrence of Sharpsburg, Iowa; Roland Eugene McKay and his wife, Rochelle of Ft. Dodge, Iowa; and

Leota Eileen (Pinkie) McKay of Omaha, Nebraska; 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Sharpsburg, Iowa.

Her family and friends will remember her as a devoted wife and mother, friend and neighbor and she will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Meyer, Everett John -

Everett John Meyer, the son of Christ G. and Ida Vandiver Meyer, was born in Lynnville, Indiana on January 2, 1905 and passed away on Tuesday evening, July 12, 1977 at

the farm southeast of Corning, Iowa at the age of 72 years, 6 months and 10 days after having a coronary attack.

On April 7, 1926, Everett was united in marriage with Hattie B. Hines at Chandler, Kan. To this union three children were born: Kenneth, Edna and Mary.

Everett and Hattie moved to Grant, Iowa in 1928, and lived in that area for 21 years, they then moved to the Kent and Stringtown areas in 1951. Twenty years later they

moved to the area near the Mercer Center Church southeast of Corning where they presently live in their farm home. He has been a farmer all of his life. He was very much devoted to the Christian Way of Life, his church and family.

He was preceded to death by his parents, an infant half-brother, a half sister, Gertrude Ledbetter; a granddaughter, Bonnie Jean Meyer and a grandson-in-law, James Wiley.

Everett is survived by his loving wife Hattie; his son Kenneth and his wife Nola of Red Oak; and their children Dean and Glen Meyer. His daughters: Edna Page of Creston and

her children Marcia Johnson, Denise Zimmerson and Connie Page; and Mary Eggleston and her husband Danny of Red Oak; and their children Christina, Russell, Wade and Amy

Eggleston. Also surviving are five brothers: Ed Meyer of Evansville, Ind., Ernie Meyer of Chandler, Ind.; Elmer Meyer of Yankestown, Ind.; Ervin Meyer of Mesa, Ariz.., and Carl Meyer of Chandler, Ind, and his sister, Edith Ewin of Newburg, Ind.; and a half sister, Zadah Nisbeth of Evansville, Ind. In addition he is survived by three great grandchildren:

Brent and Sara Johnson and Jamette Wiley, as well as other relatives and many friends.

He was a member of the Mercer Center United Methodist Church. May God bless his memory and give comfort to those who mourn.

Funeral services were held Friday at 1:30 p.m. from the Larkin-Bender Funeral Home with Rev. Floyd Newbrough officiating.

Casket bearers were Loyal English, Lawrence Peterson, Harold Clark, Wayne Bunting, Lloyd Duncan and Harold Riley.

Interment was in Grant cemetery.

Miller, Ralph Edgar -

Ralph Edgar Miller, 80, a long-time resident of this area, died Monday, July 11th at Creston where he was in the process of renewing his driver's license when stricken.

Mr. Miller was born July 30, 1896 and spent his life as a carpenter and farmer. He was a World War I veteran and had been a member of the Legion over 50 years.

Survivors include his wife, Elsie; 1 son Francis of Des Moines, 3 daughters, Mrs. Lyle (Irene) Nelson and Mrs. Don (Jean) Miller of Lenox, and Mrs. James (Marilyn)

Dailey of Des Moines. Twenty four grandchildren and twenty four great grandchildren also survive as well as 6 brothers, Elmer, Earl, Lester, Henry, Harvey and Lloyd.

Three sisters Mrs. Clinton (Elsie) Bunn, Mrs. Daniel (Bertha), Carney and Mrs. Nels (Ida) Karstensen also mourn his passing.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 at the Larkin-Bender Funeral Home with Rev. Floyd Newbrough, pastor of the United Methodist Church officiating.

Burial was at West Fairview cemetery in Lenox.

Tyler, Alan Earl -

Dr. Alan E. Tyler, 40, of Des Moines, died Thursday at Des Moines General hospital. He was a former Lenox resident and had attended schools here.

Dr. Tyler was shot to death at his office Thursday and his ex-wife was arrested, authorities said.

Dr. Tyler was struck in the chest and hand, police said. Arrested at the scene was Mary Kathleen Cole, 41.

Authorities later stated that that phychiatric tests have been ordered for Mrs. Cole, who is a court reporter for Polk County District Judge A. B. Crouch.

The shooting occurred in Tyler's office at the Wilden Osteopathic Clinic. Police said several persons in the clinic heard the shots and saw the woman walk into another doctor's office. She handed him the gun.

Dr. Tyler was born Nov. 11, 1936 and was raised in Lenox. Survivors include his wife, Mary Johnson, who he married Aug. 14, 1976; two daughters Leanne and Heather both at home;

his mother, Mrs. Wilma Maynes of Lenox, and a brother, Paul Tyler of Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his father, Hugh Tyler in 1946 and a brother Duane in 1965.

Services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Westminister Presbyterian Church in Des Moines. Burial was in the Fairview cemetery in Lenox.

Memorials have been established to the Alan E. Tyler memorial fund at Des Moines General hospital.

Tyler, Alan Earl -

Alan Earl Tyler, son of Victor Hugh and Wilma Choate Tyler, was born November 11, 1936, at Lenox, Iowa, and died Thursday, September 15, 1977, at Des Moines General

Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, while undergoing surgery for gunshot wounds inflicted by his ex-wife, Kathleen Cole.

He spent his life until manhood in Lenox, attending both grade and high school, graduating with the class of 1955. He received a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy Degree at

the State University of Iowa in 1960.

In 1961, he settled in Des Moines and was employed as a pharmacist at Dahl's Food Stores while he continued his education at the College of Osteopathic Medicine and

Surgery, receiving his D.O. degree there in 1964. He was a general surgeon at Wilden Clinic in Des Moines, Iowa, and was serving his third term as Chief of Staff at

Des Moines General Hospital and also as a board member there.

He was married August 14, 1976, to Mary Johnson, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Leanne, a student, and Heather, at home; his mother, Mrs. Wilma

Maynes of Lenox; and one brother, Paul R. Tyler of Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his father, Hugh Tyler in 1946, and a brother, Duane, in 1965.

Funeral services were held Saturday, September 17, at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Des Moines with Rev. Ralph Meredith officiating and graveside services at

Fairview Cemetery in Lenox with Rev. Leonard Mclntyre officiating.

Alan was kind and sympathetic to everyone's problems, devoted to his profession and loved the simple things in life.

Wurster, Benjamin Franklin -

Benjamin Franklin Wurster, 90, lifetime Lenox resident, died Saturday, July 30th at Rosary hospital in Corning, Iowa.

Mr. Wurster son of Caroline and John Wurster, was born at Lenox July 31, 1887. He was employed at the First National Bank of Lenox at the age of 16 and remained in the

bank's employ for over 40 years until his retirement in 1945.

Mr. Wurster was active in civic affairs, serving on the City Council and school board for many years. One of the projects during his tenure on the Council was Lenox's initial

street paving. He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, the Masonic Order and Past Patron of the Order of Eastern Star for several years.

Survivors include his wife Margaret, four daughters, Louise Wynn of Lenox; Margaret Brandmeir, Helen Kish and Marian Lemaster all of Denver; and one son, Paul of Fountain

Valley Calif. Fifteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by another son, Robert Wurster, who died in 1965 and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 2nd at 2:00 p.m. at the United Presbyterian Church with Rev. Leonard Mclntyre officiating. Music was furnished by Roberta Lockhart.

Casket bearers were Harold Carey, Eddie Ryan, Paul Davis, Ray Cheese, George Reynolds and Glenn Henderson.

Burial was in West Fairview cemetery at Lenox.

Wurster, Samuel Joseph -

Samuel Joseph Wurster, son of Christian and Katherine Haering Wurster, was born May 29, 1889, and passed away Sept. 15th at the Clearview Home in Clearfield, Iowa, at

the age of 88 years, 3 months and 17 days.

He spent the early part of his life on a farm 2 miles west of Lenox and attended the country school. In 1914 his parents retired to a home in Creston, Iowa, and Sam remained on the home place where he continued farming until 1918, when he was inducted into the United States Army and served overseas until the end of World War I. He was a charter member of the American Legion.

On Sept. 22nd he was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Cameron. They then moved to the Cameron home south of Lenox where one daughter, Evelyn, was born. He remained on the same farm until moving into town in 1946, after which he still continued to farm the home place until his health began to fail only a few years ago. He suffered a severe

heart attack in the spring of 1974 from which he was never able to return to his home.

During the prime years of his life, Sam was well known in the community for feeding and showing Hereford cattle at the International Livestock Show in Chicago, Ill., in which he

won top honors for several years.

Sam was the last of his family, being preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters and 2 brothers. Also one grandson, Larry Brammer in 1966.

He is survived by his wife, Mae, of the Clearview home, daughter Evelyn and her husband, Richard Brammer; five grandchildren Patty Bell and husband David; Wayne Brammer and wife Karen; Allen Brammer and wife Linda; Vickie Dukes and husband Dennis; Lexie Starlin and husband Donald, six great grandchildren, Theresa Bell, Robert Brammer,

Dixie and Deana Dukes, Cody and Wade Starlin, also several nieces and nephews and many friends.

The deep interest and concern for each one of his family were also an important part of Sam's life, and he will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Church and services were held Saturday morning, Sept. 17th at 10:00 a.m. with Father Blase Schumacher officiating. Jane Rychnovsky

was organist and Mrs James Rychnovsky was vocalist and sang "Amazing Grace" and "In The Garden". Interment was at the East Fairview cemetery in Lenox.

Pallbearers were Bill Barrans, Charles Huss, Dean Plants, Leo Ryan, Art Schweers and Ernie Campbell. Honorary pallbearers were George Barrans, Claude Dixon, James Arneal,

Bryan Eberle, Erskine Blair and Alfred Adolphsen.
