Mrs.
Anna C. Boyles, mother of Floyd S. Boyles, passed away February 19, 1975, at
Hillcrest Convalescent Center [California] where she had been a patient since
suffering a stroke in August, 1971. Services were held Feb. 22nd at Greenwood
Mortuary with entombment beside her husband, Wayne L. Boyles, who preceded her
in death in August, 1974.
Mrs.
Boyles is survived by two sons and their wives, Floyd and Vivienne Boyles &
Everett and Gladys Dickson; five grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

He
was the father of Mrs. Richard Walter of Lenox.

(Mildred) Walter of Lenox, 1 brother, Otho of Brooks,
1 sister, Bernice Bradley of
Corning
and 9 grandchildren.
Funeral-services
were held Wednesday at 2:30 from the Roland Funeral Home in Corning, with Rev
Don Briley officiating.
Burial
was in Prairie Rose cemetery south of Corning.
Memorials are to be sent to the Greater
Community Hospital in Creston.

Walter Fremont -
Walter
Fremont Brown, son of William Fremont and Maggie Ellen Harden Brown, was born
August 24, 1903 in Washington Township, Adams Co., Iowa, and departed this life
March
23, 1975 at the Greater Community Hospital in Creston, Iowa, at the age of 71
years, 6 months and 27 days after a lingering illness.
At
the age of 18 months, he came with his parents to a farm in the Iveyville vicinity in Taylor County where he grew to
manhood and lived the remainder of his life. He was
a life long member of the Methodist Church of Iveyville and of the Modern Woodmen Lodge.
On
June 23, 1927 he was united in marriage to Ruth Haigler of Lenox, Iowa, and to this union two children were born: Mildred, (Mrs.
Richard L. Walter) of Lenox, and Walter Marlin of Brooks.
He
is survived by his wife, Ruth, one daughter and one son, a son-in-law, Richard
L. Walter of Lenox, a daughter-in-law, Burdean Brown
of Brooks, 9 grandchildren, Mrs. Stephanie Hayes and her husband Paul of Ames,
Sandra and Steven Brown of Brooks, Mrs. Susan Yates and husband Gilbert of
Omaha, Neb., Mrs. Jeanne Masters and husband Jerry of Pickering, Mo., Janis,
David, Mark and John Walter of Lenox; two great grandchildren, Travis Hayes and
Chad Masters; one brother, Otho Brown and wife Eunice
of Brooks, and one sister, Mrs. Bernice Bradley of Corning, one brother-in-law,
Fred Haigler and wife Agnesjay of Sioux City, many loved nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Preceding
him in death were his parents; one brother, Roy, who died at an early age;
three sisters, Mrs. Ethel Long, Mrs. Bessie Walter and Mrs. Gladys Shuler, four
brothers-in-law, Harvey Long, Jesse Walter, Myrno Shuler and Meredith Bradley of Corning.
His
greatest interest in life was in his farm work. In later years he spent many
hours with his hobbies of carpentry and wood working from which he leaves many
treasured pieces of furniture. He loved
music and enjoyed many hours of making tapes and recordings. His pride and joy
were his children and grandchildren who will always cherish his memory.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday, March 26th from the Roland Funeral Home in
Corning at 2:30 with Rev. Don Briley officiating.
Music
was furnished by Dorothy Cook, organist and Eva Elmore, vocalist.
Casket
bearers were Don Wilmarth, Bill Shuler, Charles Mann,
Bill Holcomb, Jim Gill, and Richard Wilson.
Honorary
bearers were Fred Haigler, Wayne Brown, Cliff Mann,
Pat Harden, Olin Shuler and Dean Firkins.
Interment was in Prairie Rose Cemetery.

Hamilton,
Keith L -
Keith
L. Hamilton died Tuesday night at the Veterans hospital in Omaha following a
short illness.
He
was born December 25, l906 at Centerville, Iowa and was the son of Loyd and Mary Epperly Hamilton.
Keith had grown up in the Creston area and graduated from Creston
high
school. After graduation he attended college at Creston two years and college
at Ames for two years. Before joining the armed forces in June of 1941 he
operated an electric
motor
shop in Creston.
On
October 7, 1945 he married Martha Haering at Fort
Lewis, Washington. After his discharge in May of 1947 he established his own
business, the Hamilton Electric Service
in
Lenox. He was a member of the American Legion and the United Presbyterian
Church in Lenox.
He
is survived by his widow, a son Steven Hamilton, both of Lenox, a daughter,
Mrs. Carl (Cheryl) Keller and husband of Windsor, Mo., two grandsons, a brother,
Dale, of Lancaster, California, and his mother of Long Beach, California. He
was preceded in death by his father, Loyd B.
Hamilton.
Funeral
services were held from the Larkin-Bender Funeral Home in Lenox Saturday
afternoon, March 8th at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Wallace Nelson officiating.
Music
was furnished by Roberta Lockhart, organist and Gwen Maynes,
vocalist,
Casket
bearers were Harvey Wurster, Harold Beck, Melvin Wurster, Glen Nook, Robert Basler and Robert Fleming.
Interment
was in West Fairview cemetery. Graveside rites were conducted by Parkinson
Post, No, 250, American Legion of Lenox.

Marvin
J. Hingeley, 38, of Churdan,
Iowa, passed away unexpectedly at the Jefferson Iowa hospital on March 6th,
1975 after collapsing at work.
He
worked for Green County, doing maintenance work.
He
is survived by his wife, Jeanette, two sons, Ronnie and Gary and one daughter,
Debbie all at home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Hingeley of Churdan, Iowa, former
residents
of Lenox; two sisters, Julia
and husband Jim Grim of Ord, Nebraska, Verna and
husband, Frank Kozal of Jefferson, Iowa, two
brothers, Bill Hingeley and
wife
Patricia of Clearfield, Ia. Tom Hingeley and wife Eva
of Brooks, Iowa, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral
services were held at the First Baptist Church in Churdan,
la., March 8, 1975 with the Rev. David E, Olson officiating.
Burial was in Highland Township
Cemetery at Churdan, Iowa.

A. Imel, Sr., 82, of Sharpsburg, passed away Feb. 9, 1975 at the Rosary hospital in Corning,
Iowa.
He
is survived by his wife, Ethel, one daughter, Mrs. P. R. Payne of Montgomery
City. Mo., two sons, Clarence of Sharpsburg and Marvin of Safford, Arizona, 11
grandchildren

12 great grandchildren.

Leaverton, Nellie Mae Stephens -
Nellie
Mae Leaverton, died at Corning May 8th, while a
resident of the Colonial Manor Nursing Home.
Nellie
Mae Stephens was born in Taylor County, Iowa on October 7, 1887, and passed
away at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Corning, Iowa. May 8, 1975 at the
age
of
87 years, 7 months and 1 day. She was the daughter of John Pierce and Elizabeth Vandevender Stephens. Both parents, a brother, Earl,
and two sisters, Bessie and Edith
preceded
her in death.
She
grew up on a farm near New Market and was married to Carl E. Leaverton on Jan. 2, 1910. To this union were born two
sons, both of whom died in infancy. Carl and Mae
spent
many happy years on a farm near Sharpsburg. In 1960 they gave up farming and
moved to Sharpsburg. Carl passed away in April of 1970.
Mae
was a devoted wife and companion, a kind and helpful neighbor and leaves a wide
circle of friends, both old and young who will miss her greatly.
She
is survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews, including her namesake, Verla Mae Sweeney of Hemet, Calif. and her devoted friends,
the Bill Beach family.
Mae
had been in poor health the past 7 years with the last 2 years being spent at
Colonial Manor, but her grit, determination and will to live helped her
overcome insurmountable
odds.
She will be sadly missed by all, but never forgotten.
The
Shum-Novinger Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements with services
being held Sunday, May 11th at the Sharpsburg Methodist Church. Rev. James W.
King
and Rev. L. C. Brown were the officiating ministers.
Jan
Beach and Raelene Carlson were pianists with soloist
Linda Spring singing "In The Garden" and "How Great Thou
Art". Pallbearers were Bill Beach, Wesley Glasgow,
Clyde
Long, Ray Stamps, Carl Cordell and Leonard Knott, with burial in the Guss cemetery.

brother, Ernest E. Lovitt, 91, of Portland, Oregon.

Glena
Walter McClintock of Hardy, Arkansas, a former Lenox resident & daughter of
John William Walter and Ruth Belle Walter, passed away at their home in Hardy recently.
She
was a 1920 graduate of Lenox high school.
In
this area she leaves a brother, Orval C. Walter.
Mrs McClintock was born on a farm six miles west of Lenox on May 5, 1901.

Merritt,
Bertha Brenner -
Word
has been received of the death
of Mrs. Bertha Brenner Merritt, 91, of Long Beach, California, Mrs. Merritt
lived her early life in the Salem area.
The
family, Grandmother Betsy Ann Brenner, Mrs. Merritt and four children, Ellen,
Bonnie, Dorothy and Eugene moved to Lenox in 1917. Mrs. Brenner passed away in
1927 and was buried in West Fairview cemetery. The Merritt family left Lenox
and moved west in 1929.
Services
for Mrs. Merritt were held in Long Beach followed by cremation. The four
children and some grandchildren survive.
Mrs.
Bonnie Merritt Noble plans to accompany the remains to Lenox for burial in the
family plot in late March.

He weighed 7lbs. 6 ounces at birth.
His
passing is mourned by his parents, one
brother, Brent, his grandparents, Mr and Mrs Kenneth Morris and Mr and Mrs Dean Lyddon, both Clearfield,
great grandparents, Mr and Mrs Ray Wood of Clearfield, Mr and Mrs Mark Robinson of Lenox, and Claude Morris of Creston, other relatives and many
friends.

Carl
Philip Olsen, 78, a resident of the Lenox Care Center, died April 7, 1975, after
several months illness.
Mr.
Olson, the son of Elizabeth and Gustaf Olson, was
born in Omaha, Nebraska, March 5, 1897. As a small boy he moved with his
parents to a farm 3 miles west of Lenox
where
he grew to manhood. He joined the Presbyterian Church in Lenox at the age of
17.
After
farming in the Lenox area for several years he moved to a farm near Exeter,
Nebraska. In 1957, he moved to a ranch in South Dakota where his main interest
was
raising
cattle.
He
was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his brother, Clarence
of Lenox, Iowa, and two sisters, Mrs. Elen Scott of
Creston, Iowa, and Mrs. Esther Campbell
of
Des Moines, Iowa, 3 nieces and two nephews, Mrs. Phyllis Stone, Mrs. Barbara
Ferguson of Des Moines, la., and Mrs. Connie Bissell of Elkhart, Iowa, Orvall Scott of
San
Luis Obispo, California, and Larry Campbell of Cainsville,
Mo. Also several grand nieces and nephews mourn his death.
Services
were held at the Larkin-Bender Funeral Home in Lenox at 2:00 p.m., Thursday,
April 10th, 1975, with Rev. Wallace Nelson officiating.

Pennebaker, Charles -
Charles Pennebaker, 80, died May 5th at a motel on the way
home from Florida, where he and his wife, had spent the winter months.
He
was born at Sharpsburg and served in World War 1.
He
was married to Mamie Watts and moved to Ottawa, Illinois 52 years ago. Mr. Pennebaker was a police officer for 25 years and also
served as a carpenter. He and his
wife
had spent the last ten winters in Florida.
Survivors
include his wife, Mamie, 1 son Charles; three daughters, Bernita,
Jean and Carol Ann and 14 grandchildren.
Two
brothers, Harry Pennebaker of Sharpsburg, Dr. E. R. Pennebaker of Lenox & a sister, Faye Heller of Lenox
also survive.
Funeral
services and interment were held Saturday, May 10th at Phoenix, Ariz.

Rogers, Winifrede -
Miss Winifrede Rogers, former Lenox resident, died in an
Arlington Virginia hospital March 17th, 1975 after a brief illness.
Miss
Rogers was graduated from Lenox high school in 1910. She held a certificate in
Public School Music from Simpson College, later earning a degree in History at
the University
of
Iowa.
After
teaching several years in Iowa public schools, she went to Washington, D. C.,
where she taught for 25 years, retiring in 1955.
She
is survived by her sister, Agnes R. Pratt and a niece Eleanor Pratt both of
Arlington Virginia a nephew, Dr Alan Pratt of Reno, Nevada, and a grand niece,
Andrea Pratt, also of Reno.
Services
and interment were held March 20th in Arlington.

Sexton, Nathan Carl -
Carl
Sexton, 74, died at the Lenox Care Center Thursday, February 20th after being a
resident there a short time.
Nathan
Carl Sexton was born August 16, 1900 at Gravity, Iowa, the son of Nathan Isaac
and Elsie Mae Laird Sexton.
He
was married on May 24, 1926 to Hazle Lea Akers at
Coming, Iowa. To this union were born two children, 1 daughter Phyllis and a son
Darwin. He worked on the Burlington railroad for 41 years and retired Dec. 31,
1965. All his life was spent in Taylor county. He was an active member of the
Odd Fellows Lodge, holding many offices until his health failed.
He
was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Jessie and Gale, and one
sister, Gladys.
He
is survived by his wife Hazle of Lenox, a. daughter,
Phyllis Murdock and husband Randall of Independence, Ia., a son Darwin and wife
Karen of Warrensburg, Mo., and
grandchildren,
Vicki Murdock of Des Moines, Iowa, Pamela Kauffman and husband David of
Independence, Ia., Curt Sexton of Warrensburg, Mo., and Kenda Sexton of Warrensburg, Mo. He also leaves two brothers, Virgil of Bedford, Ia.,
and Francis of Wishram, Washington, and 3 sisters,
Mrs. Pete (Beulah) Downey of Corning, Iowa, Mrs,
James (Hazle) Green and Mrs. James (Larna) Hardisty, both of Cook,
Washington. Also 11 brothers-in-law and 11 sisters-in-law and many nieces and
nephews.
Funeral
services were held Sunday, Feb. 23rd at 2 p.m. from the Larkin-Bender Funeral
Home in Lenox with Rev. Dick Brown officiating.
I.O.O.F.
rites were held at the funeral home with Bedford Lodge No. 91 performing the
ritual.
Music
was furnished by Irma Wilcox, organist and Mildred Walter, vocalist.
Casket
bearers were Keith James, Joe Neuhardt, LeRoy Reed, Myrle Henderson,
Melvin Davis and Charles Gray.
Burial
was in the Gravity cemetery.

Mabel Clara Agler -
Mabel
Clara Wilson, 88, of Lenox, died Friday, February 28th, 1975 at 3:00 p.m. in
Ringgold County Hospital after a lingering illness.
The
daughter of John C. and Annie Agler, she was born in
Ringgold county on August 25, 1886. Her parents later moved to a farm in Union
County near the big tree dividing
the
four counties: Union, Adams, Ringgold and Taylor.
She
was married in the family home on March 10, 1909 to Harvey Byerly Wilson. They made their home on a farm near Lenox in Taylor County. To this
union three children
were
born: John Randall of Clearfield, Wendell Harvey of Arvada, Colorado, and Berneeta Anna Pederson, of Mt Ayr.
She
is survived by her two sons and a daughter, 14 grandchildren, 12 great grand
children four sisters, Mrs. Olive Hughes, and Mrs. Carrie Dahlberg, both of
Lenox, Mrs Nellie Peterson son of Avoca, Mrs. Mary
Jane Jones of Oskaloosa, a sister-in-law, Mrs. Cora Butter of Lenox a host of
nieces and nephews and friends.
She
was a long time member of the Clearfield United Presbyterian Church until dissolvement and then transferred to the Lenox United
Presbyterian Church. She was happiest when cooking for her family and friends.
Mr.
and Mrs. Wilson celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1959.
When
her health failed she became a resident of the Clearview Nursing Home in Mt. Ayr on Dec. 3, 1973.
She
will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

services were held at the Presbyterian Church in Lenox Monday afternoon, at
2:00 p.m., with Rev Wallace Nelson officiating,

was furnished by Norma Paymal, organist and Gwen Maynes, vocalist.
Bearers
were Penny Caldwell, Steven Wilson, James Pederson, Wayne Wilson, Haldean Wilson and Fred Wilson.
Interment was in West Fairview cemetery in
Lenox.
