services were held in Lancaster, Calif, Monday for Mrs Olive Bowden, 44828 Redwood St., Lancaster, Calif.
Burial was in the Lancaster cemetery She was a member of Chapter FW, P. E. O.
at Lenox.
She
was a former Lenox resident. Survivors: 1 daughter, Mrs Wilma Lewis of Lancaster and a sister, Mrs Matson
Barnett of Cambria, Iowa.

Boyer, James Garfield -
James
Garfield Boyer, son of George and Harriet Boyer was born on a farm two miles
west of Sharpsburg on Sept 14, 1880 where he grew to manhood. He passed away at
the hospital in Clarinda on June 11, 1961, at the age of 80 years, 8 months and
28 days.
He
was one of nine children: Effie, Otis, Myrtle Coulter, Ivy Dutton, Clara Boltinghouse, Chester and infant brother who have all
preceded him in death except one brother Clarence of Ontario, Calif.
He
was united in marriage to Grace May Dunn on Jan 12, 1905, who he leaves. To
this union six children were born, who are all living. Velva of the home at
Bedford, Mrs Chas Lela Wiand of Sharpsburg, Mrs Chas June Rupert, Montrose, Teddy
of Sharpsburg, Willard of Gravity and Marvin of Clearfield He also leaves three
daughters-in-law, two sons-in-law, four granddaughters, six grandsons, two
great granddaughters, two great grandsons, nieces, nephews, a host of relatives
and friends. One granddaughter preceded him in death.
He
was a member of the Blue Grove Christian church where he served as a deacon and
treasurer of the board. Later he transferred his membership to the Lenox
Christian church where he served as a deacon. About a month ago he placed his
membership in the Bedford Christian church. He will be greatly missed by his
family and friends.
Funeral
services were at the Christian church Wednesday, June 14. Rev Ivo Randall, pastor of the Bedford Christian church
officiated. Burial was in the Lenox cemetery.

Dr
Hal A Childs, 81, a well known retired Creston physician died at the hospital
there Wednesday, June 28. He had been in the hospital three days after
suffering a severe stroke. His home was at 1016 W Adams street, Creston.
The
funeral was at the First Congregational church there Saturday with burial in
the Lenox cemetery.
Hal
A Childs was born at Lenox Sept 2, 1879. He was the son of Horace A and Emily Ingraham Childs. He was married at Creston Oct. 31, 1906 to
Bess Hawkins who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs Robert (Elizabeth) Tallman of Fargo, N D, 3 grandchildren and 2 sisters, Mrs R E Howard of Oakland, Calif,
and Mrs J B Eakin of
Dallas, Ore.
Dr
Childs grew up in Lenox and went to Creston in 1906. He practiced for many
years as an eye, ear, nose and throat specialist. He was in association with Dr
Carl E Sampson for several years.
Dr
Childs retired in 1940, but returned to practice during World War II and
continued limited practice during the time when there was a shortage of
doctors. He was an examining physician
for recruits in World War I and for the Union Co. draft board in WWII.
He
was active in community life, being a charter member of the Creston Rotary
club, serving as first vice president and second vice president of the
club. He was a member of the American
Academy of Opthalmology and OtoLarngology for more than 50 years. He was a 50 year member of the Masonic lodge and of the
White Shrine, also of the First Congregational church.
The
family lived in Lenox in the house where Mr and Mrs Harry Cheese now live.

Mrs Katie Cummings, 82, died at her home in Lenox at
10 p.m. Friday night. Her husband preceded her in death.
Survivors
are 3 daughters, Mrs Estle Elder of Lenox; Mrs Leola Edwards of Ventura, Cal.; Mrs Bessie LaFave of Denver, Colo.;
1 son, Eldred Cummings at home; 5 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 4
brothers, Charley Gaule of Bedford; Dick Gaule of Diagonal; Patsy Gaule and Jimmy Gaule, both of Clearfield. Burial was at
Conway.

Irving
(Slim) Elder, 59, of Lenox, died at the State University of Iowa hospitals at
Iowa City Wednesday morning. He had been
in poor health for some time but entered the hospital only a short time ago.
Funeral
services were from the Bender Funeral home at Lenox at 1 p m. Saturday. Rev A J
Clements officiated. Burial was in the Essex cemetery.
He
is survived by his widow, Dea; two brothers, Gordon
of Lenox and Wallace of Davenport; and four sisters, Mrs Jack Bester of Fremont, Neb, Mrs Herman Bunk of
Beemer, Neb., and Mrs Mary Briggs and Mrs Alice Sullivan of Los Angeles, Calif. Two brothers and
a sister preceded him in death.
He
was a longtime resident of Lenox.

Irving
J., the son of Andrew and Hannah Elder was born Sept 15, 1902 at Essex,
la. He died July 19, 1961 at the University Hospital in Iowa City at the age of
58 years, 10 months and 4 days. He has been a longtime resident of Lenox.
He
married Mrs Bea Cummings Cross Feb 26, 1945 in Kansas.
He
was preceded in death by his father and mother, a sister and two brothers.
He
leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Bea, two brothers, Gordon of Lenox and Wallace
of Davenport, la.; 4 sisters, Mrs Herman Bunk of
Beemer, Neb., Mrs Mary. Briggs and Mrs Alice Sullivan, both of Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs Jack Bessler of Fremont,
Neb., and many other relatives and friends.

Frank E Goodale, 80,
of Ames, died Wednesday at the hospital there. He grew up in Lenox. His
occupation was the operation of a jewelry
store and watchmaking.
He
was the only son and was the eldest in the family.
Funeral
services were Friday from the Stevens-Ross Funeral Home in Ames and burial in
the cemetery at Dawson. Masonic services were conducted by Ray Shipman, son of
a former Lenox minister.
Survivors:
His wife, Ethel, who is very ill at the hospital in Ames; 1 son, Eugene Goodale, and 2 grandchildren at Lenox; 5 sisters, Miss Retta Goodale and Mrs Lillian Copeland of Lenox; Mrs Einar Steffarud, Mrs E C Dodds and Mrs Lucile Munger of Des
Moines.

were saddened by the news of the sudden death of Mrs. Anna Hammers, which
occurred Friday morning at her home. The funeral was Monday at the Christian
Church in Prescott. Sincerest sympathy is extended to her only son, Leo Hammers,
who lived with his mother for many years.

Evalena Grace was born Nov 16, 1871 at Monmouth, Ill. She was the eldest daughter of
Jesse and Jane Grace. She moved as a child with her family by oxen and covered
wagon to Iowa where they resided on a farm in Jackson township, Taylor County.
There she grew to womanhood and on Feb 17, 1897 was united in marriage to
William Hays.
To
this union were born 5 children: Verla (Mrs. Frank Ecklin of Lenox); Sheila (Mrs Herman Wurster) of Clearfield; Berthel (Mrs Nelson Ledgerwood) of
Bedford, Virgil of Diagonal and Argyl of Afton. She
lived her entire married life in Taylor County.
She
was a member of the Christian church in Bedford and was an active member until
suffering a stroke 12 years ago. She has been an invalid since then and her
devoted husband has patiently and faithfully cared for her until she departed
from this life May 28, 1961 in the Clear View Nursing Home.
Three
sisters and one brother and one grandson preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her passing her
husband, 5 children, 1 brother, Clark Grace; 20 grandchildren and 31 great
grandchildren.

James
Lewis Key, son of Acheles and Ellen Key, was born March
3, 1867 in Indiana and departed this life at the home of his son Herman, in
Wichita, Kan., on June 7, 1961 at the age of 94 years, 3 months and 4 days.
When
a child he moved with his parents from Indiana to Peoria, Ill., and later to
Taylor County in Iowa.
On
Nov 14, 1893 he was united in marriage to Blanche Adell Davis. To this union were born 4 children.
He
united with the Blue Grove Christian church in 1894 and served as an elder,
trustee and treasurer. He transferred his membership to the Lenox Christian
Church in 1938 and was an active member.
He
was a farmer and carpenter and lived in the Lenox vicinity until his retirement
when he moved to Lenox. He lived here until 1955 when he went to Kansas to make
his home with his son.
He
was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a daughter Mrs Elsie Woods, 1 brother, six half sisters and 5 half brothers.
He
is survived by 3 sons, Herman and Elmer of Wichita, Frank of Lenox, his step
mother, Mrs Sarah Key of Lenox; 5 half sisters, Mrs Bill Terry and Mrs James
Eller of Lenox; Mrs Russell Reynolds of Clarinda; Mrs Asa Tackett of Gravity; Roxa Key of Glenwood; 2 half brothers, Lloyd Key of Blockton and Oscar Key of Fiske, Saskatchewan, Can.; also
10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
Funeral
services were at the Christian church in Lenox Saturday, June 10 with Rev F C McCallon of Creston officiating assisted by Rev Ulus Rushing of Wichita. Mrs Ruth Boltinghouse was pianist and Rolland Buxton sang the
songs, Beautiful Isle of Somewhere and In The Garden.
Pall
bearers were Herman Key, Elmer Key, Reldon Key, Kenneth
Key, Melvin Key and Homer Miller. Burial was in Fairview cemetery.

L Kreiger, 79, retired farmer of Lenox died Monday morning at the Creston hospital after
an extended illness His wife preceded him in death a few months ago. Survivors:

California.

Kreiger, Harry Louis -
Harry
Louis Kreiger, only son of Jacob and N. Ellen Scott Kreiger, was born near Atlantic, la., Nov 4, 1881. When a
youth he moved with his parents and sister to Iowa, and has spent the rest of
his life in the Lenox vicinity.
On
Feb. 21, 1912 he was united in marriage to Ethel Margaret Orr and they remained
on the Kreiger homestead.
He
was a member of the Stringtown Federated Church, where
he was a faithful and active member as long as health permitted.
Following
an extended illness he passed away June 26, 1961 at the Greater Community
Hospital at Creston, la.
He
was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel on Feb 5 of this year. Also by his
parents and his sister, Jessie Bassett.
His
survivors include a nephew Harlan Bassett and family of Brea, Calif.; a
brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mr and Mrs Elmer Orr of Lenox; 4 sisters-in-law, Alma, Florence
and Myrtle Orr and Mrs Bernice Clawson of Los
Angeles, Calif.; several cousins and a host of friends.
Funeral
services were from the Bender Funeral Home June 28, Rev James Eddy officiating.
Burial was in Fairview cemetery.

services for Mrs John Oller were Tuesday at 2 p. m. at the Keating and Beemer Funeral Home in Creston.
Burial was in Graceland cemetery at Creston. Mrs Oiler was the mother of Mrs Roy Key of Lenox. The
family met their friends at the Funeral home on Monday evening.

Dr
and Mrs E R Pennebaker and
Dr and Mrs J C Pennebaker of
Corning attended funeral services at Davenport, la., last Wednesday for M J
Palmer, nationally known chiropractor. D D Palmer,
father of B J Palmer founded the Palmer School of Chiropractic in Davenport in
1895. B J took charge of the school when he was 18 years of age. The school now
is valued at $3,000,000 and has an enrollment of over 800 students. The funeral
was reported to be the largest ever held in Davenport.

Mr and Mrs Ernest Peterson
returned Sunday from Gillet, Wyo,
where they were called by the serious illness and death of Ernest's oldest
brother, Oscar, who was 83 years of age.
Oscar
grew up in Nebraska and had visited here in Lenox a number of times.
Ernest
and his wife went from Wyoming to Billings, Mont., where they visited another
brother, Carl, his wife and their ten children and families. Returning home,
they visited a sister at Lincoln, Nebr, and their
son, C B and family at Avoca. They
report that it is very dry in Montana and Wyoming, with very little crops
except where it was irrigated.

requiem mass was offered in St. Gregory's church, Phoenix, Ariz., July 20 for Mrs William Readhead, 1723 West MacKenzie Drive, Phoenix, who died July 17, 1961. Interment
was in St. Patrick's cemetery, Lenox, Iowa.
Ida Paymal Readhead was born
January 14, 1873 on a farm 6 miles south of Corning. She was a member of St.
Gregory's Sodality of Our Blessed Lady of the Immaculate Conception, St.
Gregory's Legion of Mary Auxiliary, Confraternity of Christian Doctrine and St.
Gregory's Women's Club, Phoenix, Ariz.
Her
parents, Eugene E. Paymal and Mary Doubet Paymal, lived on a farm
west of Lenox until 1899 when they moved to Lenox.
She
married Dr William Readhead Sept. 25, 1901. To this
union two daughters were born: Marjorie, Detroit, Mich., and Mrs Urban D (Dorothy) Kapler,
Phoenix, Ariz. The Readheads made their home in Lenox
until 1939 when they moved to Detroit. Dr Readhead passed away Jan 23, 1948.
Mrs. Readhead has lived in Phoenix since 1952. She is
survived by her two daughters, her son-in-law Urban Kapler,
her sister Cora Van Wormer, South San Gabriel, Calif., and her brother, S. L. Paymal, Omaha, Neb. One sister, Louise Sealy of Huntington
Park, Calif., and 3 brothers, Joseph, Tulsa, Okla., Frank and John, Lenox,
preceded her in death.

Wilson, Otis Paul -
Double
funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p. m. at the Bender Funeral Home in
Lenox for Paul Wilson, 67, and his wife Elsie, 64, of Indianola. Burial was in
the Clearfield cemetery.
Mr Wilson, a former banker, had suffered a stroke a
few weeks ago. The two were found shot to death Wednesday afternoon on their
farm near Indianola. Sheriff C J Richards of Warren county, termed the tragedy
an apparent murder and suicide.
Elsie Fae, daughter of Preston D and Minnie Cochran Wood, was
born in Taylor county Dec 24, 1896 and passed away June 21, 1961 at the age of
64 years and 6 months, at her home near Indianola, Iowa.
She
spent her childhood in the Clearfield community and graduated from Clearfield
high school in 1915. On Aug 31, 1915 she was united in marriage with Paul
Wilson.
Those
left to mourn her passing are her father, Preston D Wood of Bedford, la.; two
sisters, Glenna (Mrs. Hugh Wyant) of Lenox, Mary
(Mrs. A M Bentley) of Atlanta, Ga.; two brothers, L Banks Wood of Diagonal and
Don Wood of Bedford 3 nieces, 2 nephews, grand nieces and nephews and one great
grand niece.
Otis
Paul, son of Perry and Jennie Henderson Wilson was born in Ringgold County,
Iowa Sept 12, 1893 and passed away June 21, 1961 at the age of 67 years and 9
months at his home near Indianola.
He
spent most of his childhood in the Shannon City community and graduated from
the local high school.
Those
left to mourn his passing are one sister, Margaret (Mrs Allan Shaw) Grand Junction, Colo.; one niece and three nephews, grand nieces
and nephews.
