Botkin, Ronald Eugene -
Ronald Botkin, 25, of Prescott and Grace Kingery,
18, of Corning were killed by carbon monoxide while sitting in a car parked in
front of Miss Kingery's home in Corning early Monday
morning. The motor of the car was still running
when the couple was found about 1 a. m. by Carl Snyder, Corning night marshal.
Miss Kingery's funeral was Jan 4 at Mt Etna, the Rev
Leonard Lutz officiating. Services are to be Jan 5 at Stringtown for Mr Botkin, conducted by
Rev Keith Smith, with burial at Stringtown.

Ronald Eugene Botkin,
oldest son of Charles and Betty Botkin was born
December 11, 1934 on the J C Reese farm in Mercer township and died January 1,
1961 in Corning, Ia. He was 26 years and
21 days of age at the time of his sudden death.
He had eight years of rural schooling
at Mercer No. 2. He went to Corning high
school his freshman year then finished his high school at Prescott in May of
1952 after moving with his parents to the Fred Olson farm in Union township.
He
volunteered for service in the US Army in March of 1956. He had his basic at Camp Carson, Colo. and tank training at Fort Irwin, Calif. In Sept 1950 he was sent to Germany for 17
months where he served on a large army tank. He received a medal and commendation for expert firing. He returned to the states and home in Feb. of
1958. He then served two years m the National guard.
He
had been the 4-H leader for a year for the Prescott 4-Hers. This past year he
was serving as assistant leader. He was
also engaged in farming with his father and brother Gary.
He
was baptized when a baby and joined the Stringtown Federated Church at the age of 11. He
leaves to mourn his sudden passing, his parents, two sisters, Marjo Brown of Kansas City and Sherry Jean Botkin; 3 brothers, Jimmy, Gary, and Kenneth, all at home;
one brother-in-law, Dan Brown, 2 nephews, Alan and David Brown; 1 niece,
Valerie Anne Brown; his grandmother Botkin; grandfather Mostert, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and
friends who will miss him deeply.
Services
were conducted by the Rev Keith Smith at Stringtown church and interment was in the Stringtown cemetery.

Mrs Alma Bush, 75, passed away Friday at the Clarinda
hospital where she had been hospitalized for the past seven days. Mrs Bush was born Feb 22, 1885 in Taylor county, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her husband,
Frank Bush and one son Floyd Bush. Survivors include two sons and their
families: Mr Walter Bush of Gravity, Glen Bush of Meisenheimer, N C. Two daughters and their families, Mrs Harry Lulu Grant of Work, Nebr,
and Mrs Howard Elnora Hoffman of Clarinda. Sixteen
grandchildren and 1 great grandson. The
funeral services were 1:30 PM Monday at the Guss Methodist church.

Mrs Ray Casey, 37, died, early Tuesday morning at her home seven miles northeast of
Lenox. She was regularly employed at the
Eclipse Lumber Co and had worked Saturday. She was ill with the flu Monday and is believed to have suffered a heart
attack.
Funeral
services will be Thursday at 2 p m at the Stringtown Church,
the Rev Keith Smith officiating. Burial will be at Stringtown.
Survivors
include her husband, three sons, Larry, Duane and Stephen, all of the home, one
sister, Mrs Rex Pierce and her mother, Mrs Vinnie Homan of Prescott. The body is at Bender Funeral Home.

Dorothy
Gayle Casey, daughter of Harvey and Vinnie Homan was born at Carl, Iowa, Sept
9, 1924. She passed away unexpectedly at her home, 7 miles northeast of Lenox
on Jan 10, 1961.
She
was a graduate from the Corning high school in 1941.
On
March 20, 1943, she was married to Ray Casey of Kent. To this union 3 sons were born. She was
preceded in death by her father. She was
a member of the Federated church at Stringtown, where
she had taught the Junior Hi Sunday School class.
She
was a wonderful mother, a good friend and neighbor and will be greatly missed
by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband Ray, 3 sons, Larry 17,
Duane 13 and Stephen 12, her mother, Mrs Vinnie Homan
of Prescott, her sister, Mrs Rex Pierce of Lenox,
Ray's parents Mr and Mrs Melvin Casey of Creston, sisters-in-law, Mrs Clark
Means of Villisca and Mrs Dan King of St Louis, Mo.,
2 nieces, 4 nephews and other relatives.
Funeral
services were Jan 12, at 2 p m at the Federated church at Stringtown with Rev Keith Smith officiating. Music was by Roland Buxton and Norma Paymal. Burial was in the Stringtown cemetery. Pallbearers were Fred Stillinger, Allen
Pine, Homer Teatsworth, Lyle John, Joe Brown and
Marvin Routh.

Mrs Margaret L Choate, 90, of Lenox, died at a
nursing home in Creston Saturday. She had been in the nursing home 11
days. She had made her home with her
daughter, Mrs Wilma Tyler. She is survived by 5 daughters.
Funeral
services were Tuesday at Creston, Rev James Eddy pastor of the United
Presbyterian Church officiating.

Margaret Lucina McKee -
Margaret Lucina McKee was born May 9, 1870 and passed away Feb 4, 1961 at the age of 90 years,
8 months and 25 days. She had lived in the Union county area all her life. On March 18, 1888 she was united in marriage
to Lewis Choate. To this union ten children were born. She was a kind and
loving mother, always thoughtful of others and a friend to all the younger
generation.
She was preceded in death by her
husband, one son, Glen and two daughters, Edythe Choate and Gertrude
Moore. Left to mourn her death are 5
daughters, Edna Miller, Conrad, Mont; Margaret Johnson, Great Falls, Mont.;
Gladys Shannon, Boone; Helen Scherer, Afton and Wilma Tyler, Lenox; two sons,
Forrest Choate, Waterloo; and Fred Choate, Fairfield, Mont; 23 grandchildren,
37 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild;
one sister, Henrietta Hax, San Francisco, Calif.;
several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were at the Keating
& Beemer Chapel, Creston Tuesday, Feb. 7, with Rev James Eddy, pastor of
Lenox U P Church, officiating. Music was by Mrs Claud Hart, organist, and Paul Tyler, who sang Rock of Ages
and Sunrise. Casket bearers were Duane Tyler, Alan Tyler, Paul Tyler, Charles
Shannon, Franklin Kinkade and Edmund Smith. Burial
was in Graceland cemetery at Creston.

Gaines, Viola Dutro -
Viola Dutro, daughter of Franklin and Nancy Dutro was born at Algona, la., Aug. 19, 1870. Early in life
she moved with her parents to Adair, la. where she married C Edward Gaines on
Sept. 5, 1894. To this union were born fivechildren, three of whom survive: Mrs Harold Grimes
of Amarillo, Tex., Mrs Russel Key of Topeka, Kan., and Mrs Horace Flemming of Elensburg, Wash. One
infant and a son, Claude Gaines have preceded her in death.
She
is survived by one brother, Claude Dutro of Joplin,
Mo., and one sister, Mrs George Kading of Adair, la. Also 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
They
spent four years in Kansas and moved to Lenox in 1917. They have always
followed the vocation of farming.
A year ago she moved to Amarillo to be
with her daughter, Mrs. Grimes.

Mr.
and Mrs. Jay Henderson attended funeral services for the former's cousin, Erle Henderson, 76, at Winterset Tuesday at 4 p.m. Mr Henderson has
been in business in Winterset for 33 years. Surviving are his wife, Ella, 2 sons, one daughter and several
grandchildren. He has visited many times
in Lenox.

Mrs Mary Kimsey Hopkins,
44, died Jan 22, 1991, in the Memorial hospital, Houston, Texas. Born in Lenox,
she had lived in Houston 23 years. She attended the University of Nebraska and
was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority.
Survivors
are her parents Mr and Mrs John C Kimsey, Chariton, Iowa, formerly of Lincoln, daughter
Miss Mary Ann Hopkins, sons Wm Henry Hopkins Jr., Thomas King Hopkins, all of
Houston, Texas; sisters Mrs Louise Dwyer, Des Moines, Mrs Georgetta Brown,
Decatur, Ill, Mrs Alice Erixson,
Sedalia, Mo.
Burial
was in Forest Park West Cemetery, Houston, Texas. Mrs Hopkins'
father, John Kimsey owned the Fair Store here for a
long time.

E R Johnson, 90 years old, died Jan 4
at his home in San Diego. He was born in Lenox and graduated from high school
here. He was the oldest son of Atty A J Johnson.
Survivors are his wife, the former Ida Boyles, and one son, Calvin of San
Diego, a brother-in-law, Wayne Boyles, one granddaughter and two great
grandchildren. The funeral was Jan 6.
Information about his death was sent by Mrs C D Hetz of San Diego.

Emerson
(Bud) Johnston, 99 years old, died Wednesday afternoon at the home of his son Mannie Johnston in Lenox.
The
funeral services was conducted by the Rev Frank Greenwood at the Gravity
Methodist Church Saturday, Jan 21. Burial was in the Gravity cemetery.
Mr Johnston had been a farmer in the Gravity
community. He and his wife had made
their home with their son the past few months.

J Johnston, son of Hermanus and Martha Ann Johnston,
was born at Monroe in Marion County, Iowa, April 15,
1861
and passed away Jan 18 in Lenox. He came
with his parents to Holt township in Taylor county in 1869. On Feb 22, 1883, he
was married to Mary Kathrine Richardson. They moved
to Gravity in 1919. They were the
parents of six children William F, May, Hazel, Mannie,
Emma and Winnifred.
He
leaves his wife, Mary, 93, one son Mannie, one
daughter, Mrs Clarence (Emma) Downey of Bedford, 9
grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 13 great great grandchildren and many other relatives.
Casket
bearers were Bernard Johnston, Kermit Johnston, Emerson Johnston, Howard
Richards, Everett Richards and Wayne Lovitt. The
music was by Mrs Merle DeBolt and Mrs Howard Sturm of Gravity.

Margaret Orr Kreiger, daughter of Simeon B and Alice
M Orr, was born Dec 5, 1888 in Minden, Nebr, and
departed to be with the Lord, Feb 5, 1961, at Lenox, Iowa. She attained the age of 72 years and two
months.
She
moved at an early age, with her parents to Lenox. It was here she met and
married Harry Kreiger, Feb 21, 1912.
She
was baptized while living in Minden and was a member of the Stringtown Community church.
She
was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Mary Orr. She leaves to mourn
her passing, her husband, Harry, four sisters Alma, Florence and Myrtle Orr,
and Bernice Clawson all of Los Angeles, Calif, and
one brother, Elmer Orr of Lenox.

Lyle
George Miller, son of Frank E. and Katheryn Miller,
was born in Adams County near Lenox, Iowa, on Sept 14, 1917, and passed away at
Greater Community Hospital, Creston, Dec 5. 1960 at the age of 43 years, 2
months and 21 days.
He
had spent his entire life in the vicinity of Lenox. As a young man he started
in the trucking and feed business. He joined the Stringtown Federated Church early in youth and later transferred to the Methodist Church
in Lenox. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge A. F. and A. M. in Lenox.
On
May 10, 1950, he was united In marriage to Pauline McKern,
also of Lenox. He is preceded in death
by his father and one brother, Albert. He leaves to mourn his departure his
wife, Pauline, a step daughter, Lana McKern; his
mother, Katheryn Miller; six sisters: Margaret Curts of Monroe City, Mo.; Edna Starks, Hazel Stoaks, Lila Spoonemore, Wilma
Gray and Alberta Calvln, all of Lenox; five brothers,
Raymond of Des Moines; Frank of Bettendorf, la.; Harry, Clyde and Homer of
Lenox, besides many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral
services were from the Lenox Methodist church, Rev Hugh Williams, officiating.
Burial was in Lenox cemetery.

Joseph
H. Probasco died Monday morning at the Creston
hospital. Funeral services were Wednesday at the Bender Funeral home, the Rev. Robert Duckett delivering the sermon.
Burial was in the Lenox cemetery.

Joseph
Harrison Probasco, son of Jacob and Elizabeth Hass Probasco, was born on a farm near Corning, Iowa, Feb. 23,
1890 and passed away at the Greater Community hospital in Creston, Iowa, on
Jan. 5, 1959 at the age of 68 years, 10 months and 13 days.
He
spent most of his life in or near Lenox with his wife, the former Hazel Whipple
of Sharpsburg who preceded him in death Aug. 12, 1951. In 1928 Joe and his wife
adopted a son, Kenneth, who also preceded his father in death, Aug. 21, 1955.
Joe
served in the army in Europe during World War 1 and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American
Legion Post No. 250 in Lenox.
He
was employed for several years by the town of Lenox, working, both in the water
plant and as the street commissioner. He
was always ready to lend a helping hand and will be remembered by his friends
for his many kind deeds.
He
is survived by a step daughter, Miss Edith Munshower of Denver, Colo., two grandsons, Bobby and Jimmy Joe Probasco of Lenox, a sister Mrs Mary Bansey,
and a brother Ted Probasco, both, of Creston.

Services
for Charles Augustus Quinn were held at the Howe Mortuary Chapel in Boulder,
Colo., Thursday, Jan 26, with Rev Marvin Adams, pastor of the First Methodist church
officiating. Mrs Martha Adams sang "In The
Garden" and "Beyond the Sunset." Interment followed at Mountain
View Memorial Park, Boulder. Pall bearers were Merrill Reynolds, Russell Schlapia, Delbert Shaffer, A C Edmonds, Leo Hulett and Melvin Olson. His brother Bill Quinn of Lenox and his sister Mrs Ralph Devoe of Corning attended the funeral.
Charles
Augustus Quinn, son of James and Katherine Quinn was born on a farm near
Sharpsburg, la., April 7, 1892, and departed this life at his home in Boulder,
Colo., Jan 23, 1961 at the age of 68 years, 9 months, 15 days. He was united in marriage to Lela May Hinton
of Lenox on May 9, 1923 at Bedford. To this union was born one son, W E
Quinn
of Boulder.
Mr and Mrs Quinn
established their home on a farm near Conway, where they resided for
approximately 5 years, then moved to Blockton where Mr Quinn took the carpentry trade as a profession, later
moving to Clearfield, la., where they resided for 22 years. He continued in the
building trade with his son Wilfred until ill health forced his retirement in
1954 and he moved to Boulder, Colo.
He
united with the First Christian Church in 1949 at Clearfield. He was a member
of the Noble Lodge No. 458, A F & A M of Clearfield and the Royal
Neighbors. He was affiliated with the Carpenters Union of Kansas City, Mo.
He
was preceded in death by his father and mother; two brothers, Leo and Richard;
and two sisters, Vera and Alice. He is survived by his wife, Lola, and son W E
(Bill) Quinn of Boulder; three brothers, William and Ernest of Lenox and Eddie
of Spencer, la.; and one sister, Mrs Ralph (Marie) Devoe of Corning.
Mr Quinn was a loving husband and father, a kind
neighbor and friend. He was happiest when doing kind things for others and will
be sadly missed by all those who knew him.

Erma Eva Belding -
Mrs Erma Reed, 71, died Wednesday night at the Rosary
hospital in Corning. She was taken to the hospital the middle of January after suffering a stroke.
She
and her husband had lived in this area for most of their married life except
for a few years in Texas. They retired from farming and had lived in Lenox for
a number of years. They celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary Jan 3, 1957.

Eva Belding, daughter of Minnie and Charles Belding, was born June 23, 1889,
near Prescott, and departed this life at the Rosary hospital in Corning Feb. 1,
at the age of 71 years, 7 months and 8 days.
Mrs Reed was a member of the Lenox Methodist church.
Besides her husband, William, she leaves the following children: Mrs Eva Jones, Lenox; Orville N Reed, Leon; Charles Reed,
Des Moines; Mrs Lola Ross and Lewis Reed, Lenox; Mrs Lometa Brammer,
Sharpsburg; Mrs Nina Baker, Clearfield; Donald Reed,
Diagonal; Bill Reed, Jr., Lenox; 2 sisters, Mrs Walter Beadel, Sharpsburg and Mrs Walter Boltinghouse, Lenox; and a brother Oval
Belding, Harrodsburg, Ky; 33 grandchildren and 10
great grandchildren, also nieces and nephews and a host of friends and
relatives.
Funeral
services were Saturday at 2 p. m. in the Methodist church in Lenox with Rev
Robert Duckett officiating. Burial was in Lenox
cemetery.

(Dick) Stapleton, 60, died Sunday morning at a Council Bluffs hospital. He had
been a typesetter at the Omaha World Herald for 30 years. The funeral was to be
Wednesday at 10:30 a m at Myers Funeral home, Council Bluffs, with burial at
Gravity. Survivors include his wife Ada, daughter
Phyllis, a sister Mrs Martha Sprague, two brothers,
Walter of Lenox and Tom of Bellevue, near Peoria, Ill. Mr. Stapleton grew up in
this community.

services were at Meyer Chapel Wednesday, the Rev Wilton M Grant, pastor of
Trinity Methodist church officiated. Interment was in Gravity, la.
