Boltinghouse, Joseph E -
Joseph Boltinghouse, 91, former Lenox resident, died at a
nursing home in Mt. Ayr Monday, November 13th. He had
been a resident of the Elston community
the
past 28 years.
Survivors
include his widow, Mollie; two daughters, Mrs. Leo Hale of Lenox and Mrs. Max
Anderson of Denver, Colorado, one brother, Walter Boltinghouse and
three
sisters, Mrs. Clarence Armstrong of Lenox, Mrs. Ethel Bryant of Des Moines and
Bertha Carter of California; also two grandchildren.
Funeral
services will be held at the Christian Church today (Thursday) at 2:00 p.m.,
with Rev. David Shaeffer, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in the Lenox cemetery.

Joseph E -
Mr.
Joseph F. Boltmghouse, son of L. C. and Sarah S. Boltinghouse, was born in Bloomington, Indiana, on April 2,
1876. He, at an early age moved with his
parents
to Illinois. Later the family moved to Iowa, settling on a farm of Taylor
County in the Blue Grove vicinity where he grew to manhood.
He
was united in marriage to Mary Agnes Haering May 3,
1898. To this union two daughters were born, Lila of Lenox, Iowa, Lolita of
Denver, Colo., a son,
Harley,
who died in infancy, and Frank, who passed away Jan. 23, 1950.
He
was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary, his parents, five brothers,
James, Charles, Lonnle, Orval,
and Floyd, and one sister, May Murray, Edgely,
N.
Dakota.
He
leaves to mourn his passing: his present wife, Mollie of Elston,
la., two daughters, Lila and Lodita, 2 grandchildren,
Vicki and Terry Anderson of
Denver,
Colo., three sisters, Bertha Carter of Manhattan Beach, California, Eva
Armstrong of Lenox, la., and Ethel Bryant of Des Moines, la., a brother, Walter
Boltinghouse of Lenox, la., three step children, Violet of Ellston,
la., Gladys of Des Moines. la., and Gerald of Phoenix, Arizona, a host of
nieces and nephews.
Joseph
will be greatly missed by his many friends and acquaintances, for he endeared
himself to others with his friendly disposition!, which he displayed even
during his last lingering illness.

Delmar
Raymond Breach, son of Ray and Anna Alff Breach, was
born at Walnut, Iowa Dec. 5, 1928 and passed away at 2 a. m., Nov. 2 at the
Veteran's Hospital
in
Omaha, Nebr., aged 39 years, 11 months and 3 days.
When
he was a youth his family moved to a farm near Conway where he grew to manhood
and received his education in Conway school. During these years he became a
member of the Presbyterian Church of Sharpsburg, later transferring his
membership to the Prescott Methodist Church.
He
served his country in the US. Army from 1951 to 1953 spending 19 months of his
service in Korea.
On
June 6, 1956, he was united in marriage. to Ruth Helene Green at Prescott,
where they made their home. Besides farm work, he was employed driving
a
cream route and as a service station attendant for Joe Johnston and Bill
Preston. He was a Charter member of the Prescott Volunteer Firemen & was
given
an
honorary membership when his health forced him to give up active duty.
He
was preceded in death by his father in June, 1966.
Survivors,
in addition to his wife and his mother are two brothers and two sisters, Dean
W. and Kenneth M., both of Sharpsburg, Iowa; Mrs. Wm. (Norma) Culver
of
Bellevue, Nebr.; Mrs. Wm. (Eleanor) Witt of Audubon, Iowa, one grandmother,
Mrs. Anna Alff of Carson, Iowa; his beloved
mother-in-law, Mrs. Ruth Green of Prescott; and a number of nieces, nephews,
uncles, aunts, and cousins, as well as a host of friends.
He
was a kind, loving husband and his pleasant disposition made him a friend to
many who will sorely miss him.
Rev
Wm. Fry, minister, officiated at the final rites at the Methodist Church in
Prescott Saturday, Nov. 4th at 2:00 p. m. Interment was in the Prescott
cemetery.

Carl
Axel Carlson, son of Carl and Johanna Anderson was born in Oslesgolland,
Sweden on January 12, 1875. He came to America in 1892 when he was a young
man
of 17 years of age. After he was settled in America and naturalized in 1900, he
sent to Sweden for his parents and brother, who together settled in the
Essex
vicinity where they farmed.
In
1911 Carl was united in marriage with Esther Anderson. This union was blessed
with one son, Carl O. and a daughter Grace who died when three years of age.
His wife preceded him in death on February 3, 1922. He was united in marriage
with Sophie Kling on December 29, 1923, a widow who had a daughter Lorene.
Upon
retiring from the farm in 1943 the family moved into town and Carl served as
Town Marshall a number of years. He later worked at the seed houses
in
Shenandoah until his retirement at the age of 75.
In
February 1964 Carl moved to the Colonial Nursing Home, Lenox, Iowa to be near
his wife who had made her home there because of poor health since 1962. Carl
passed away early Wednesday morning, November 1, 1967 following a short
illness.
Besides
his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Grace, his
brother, August, and a grandson, Henry G. Travis on February 12, 1954.
Surviving
are his son Carl O. and daughter-in-law Margaret of Omaha; daughter Lorene and
son-in-law Armond Travis of Prescott, Iowa; ,six
grandchildren
and
five great-grandchildren.
Funeral
services were held Saturday at 2:00 o'clock, at the Hacket Funeral Home in Shenandoah, Iowa. Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery, Nyman,
Iowa.

James Gaule, 83, a retired farmer and lifelong resident of
the Clearfield area died at the Rosary hospital in Corning Friday.
Mr. Gaule was born October 3, 1884. He is survived by his widow,
Mary, three sons, Earl and Clifford Gaule of
Clearfield and Lloyd Gaule of Rochester, Minn., three
daughters, Mrs. Betha Tamerius of Denver, Colo., Mrs. Darlene Mobley of Grant City, Mo., and Mrs. Mabel Wood
of Clearfield, 18 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Two brothers,
Phillip Gaule of Conway and Dick Gaule of Diagonal also survive.
Funeral
services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Clearfield. James Dorsey, student pastor
of the church, conducted the services.
Burial
was in the Clearfield cemetery.

Mrs.
Anson Gold, 78, of Conway, died Tuesday at Rosary hospital in Coming. She is a
former Lenox resident, having been born here in 1888.
Survivors
include one daughter, Lela Loeffler of Ravenwood, Missouri. Mrs. Gold had resided in this
community and Conway all her life.
Funeral
services will be held at the Bender Funeral Home in Lenox Thursday, (today)
Nov. 16th at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Edward Tschetter will
officiate.
Burial
will be to the Lenox cemetery.

Alta
May Hudson, daughter of Elonzo P. (Joe) Monroe and Mahala Jane Manroe, died at the
Rosary hospital in Corning Friday, Oct. 13th, 1967 at the age of
77
years, 10 months and 19 days. She was born November 24, 1869 in Lenox.
Mrs.
Hudson resided in Lenox throughout her girlhood and graduated from the Lenox
high school with the class of 1908. After graduation she taught
in
the Taylor County schools for several years.
While
living in Lenox she made her Confession of Faith at the age of 12 years and remained
constant in her devotion and loyalty to the Christian Church.
She
was a member of the Church's Women's organization and taught a Church school
class when needed.
On
September 17, 1912, she was united in marriage to Earl L. Hudson in Lenox. To
this union was born one daughter, Virginia. She is survived by her husband,
Earl
L. Hudson; one daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Barton, Pine
River, Minn.; one granddaughter Mrs. Donald Knold,
San Clemente, Calif., and two great
grandchildren,
besides a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs.
Hudson's concern for the welfare of her friends and loved ones was one of her
strong Christian virtues and she will be missed by many.
Funeral
services were conducted Monday, October 16th at 2 p. m., from the Bender
Funeral Home with Rev. David Shaeffer, pastor of the
Lenox Christian
Church,
officiating.
Music
was furnished by Ruth Boltinghouse.
Bearers
were Vern Roll, Carl Spring, filing Miller, Bert Shawler,
Lloyd Chandler and Robert Manroe.
Burial was in the Fairview cemetery.

Drexel
Nathan Hunt, 49, died in Des Moines Monday, October 2nd, as the result of a
heart attack.
Mr.
Hunt was the son of J.N. Hunt and Mrs. Wesley Crouch, and was born April 26,
1918 in Prescott, Iowa. He was a member of the Methodist Church and
served
his country honorably in the Navy during World War II. He had been a member of
the Masonic Lodge for 20 years.
Mr.
Hunt was a professional car salesman for more than 15 years. He worked in
Oklahoma City for General Motors for a time and more recently had been
a
car salesman for the Ford Motor Company in Des Moines, where he was employed at
the time of his death.
He
is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wesley J. Crouch of Lenox, a sister,
Mrs. Thelma Weigle of Cherry Hill, New Jersey, four
children, Mrs. Connie
Hart
of Oklahoma City, Okla., Mrs. Jean Archino, Dayton,
Ohio, Jerry Hunt of Edmund, Okla.. Miss Judy Ann Hunt of Midwest City, Okla.,
and also by three
grandchildren.
Funeral
services were conducted from the Methodist Church in Lenox Wednesday, October
4th at 2 p. m.. with Rev. Floyd Newbrough, pastor,
officiating.
Bearers
were Wayne McFee, Howard Elder, Reldon Ambrose, Wayne O'Riley, Lawrence Haggerty and Harvey Spoonemore.
Music
was furnished by Marilyn Beck and Billie Jean Barker.
Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery.

Faith
C. Leonard, 64, a longtime resident of Clearfield, died Sunday noon at Clarkson
Memorial hospital in Omaha, Nebr., following a lingering illness. Her
husband
preceded her in death about three weeks ago.
Funeral
services were held at 2 p. m. Tuesday at the Clearfield Methodist church with
Rev. Edward Tschetter officiating and burial in the
Clearfield cemetery.
Survivors
include a son, Scott, two step-daughters, Vida Wilson of Lenox and Leveta Halm of Thayer, a
step-son, Lloyd Leonard of Omaha and eight sisters and brothers.

John
Luke, 68, of Cicero, Ill., died at the Greater Community hospital at 8:15 a.m.
Wednesday, Oct. 18. He had been in the hospital since Oct. 5, when he was
injured
in an automobile collision at the Stringtown corner
on Highway 34.
Luke's
body was taken to the Roland funeral home at Corning and is to be token to
Chicago, Ill later. Funeral arrangements have not been made at this time.
Luke
had been in critical condition at the hospital since the accident in which
three other persons were killed.
The
others who died in or shortly after the accident were Mrs Ruth Pearson, 65, of Berwyn, Ill., a passenger in Luke's automobile; Charlie W.
Knott, 77
of Route 1, Sharpsburg, driver of the
other car in the accident; and Mrs Vevia C Farnham, 79, of Sioux
City who was Knott's housekeeper and who was riding with him.

Mrs.
Mary Etta Skinner, 84, of Clearfield died at the Greater Community hospital at
Creston Tuesday night, Oct. 24. She had been ill for some time.
Funeral
services were Friday, at 2 p.m. at the Christian Church at Clearfield. Rev.
James Dorsey officiated. Burial was in the Clearfield cemetery.
Mrs.
Skinner had lived in Clearfield for many years. She is survived by two
daughters, Hilda Skinner, a teacher in the Clearfield schools, and Margaret,
in Wisconsin. A son, Donald at home
also survives.

John
A. Stringham, son of Anna J. and James R. Stringham, passed away Oct. 28 at the Lenox Best Home at
the age of 80 years, 10 months, and 28 days.
He
was born on a farm in Warren Co., Iowa, the youngest of seven children; 4
brothers and 2 sisters, all of whom preceded him in death except his youngest
sister,
Mrs. Helen W. Folcey, with whom he has lived since
1936.
When
John was one year old the family moved to a farm in Guthrie Co. Iowa, where
they lived until February of 1903, when his parents sold their farm and retired,
moving to Des Moines, and John continued doing farm work until he was called to
the services of his country in World War I, on Feb. 24, 1916.
His
overseas duty found him serving in the Grand Ballou Sector, St. Maheil Offensive, and at the Battles of
Verdun. P.F.C. Stringham received his honorable
discharge
from the service in May, 1919. On returning home from Services he took up farm
work again and was thus employed until the fall of 1950 when he was strickened with paralises and was
hospitalized at Veterans Hospital in Des Moines for 11 weeks. He then came to
make his home with his sister, Mrs. Helen Folcey of
Lenox.
He
had been a resident of the Lenox Rest Home since Sept. 25, 1966.
Survivors
include nine nieces and four nephews, one of which is Francis Folcey of Lenox, Iowa.
Throughout
his lengthy illness he bore his disability and infirmities with patience and
courage.
Memorial
Services were held at the Bender Funeral Home on Monday, Oct. 30, at 2:00 p.
m., Rev. David Shaeffer, minister of the Lenox Christian
Church officiating.
Bearers
were Joe Trost, Byron Brown, Roland Walter, Claude
Reynolds, Clarence Haering and Albert Nicholson.
Internment was at the Lenox cemetery.

Edward
Swartz, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Swartz of rural Lenox, was killed
instantly Monday evening about 8:00 p. m., November 20th.
The
young man was unloading corn at the time of the accident and apparently became
caught in the hydraulic lift on the truck. He was working alone at the time and
his body was discovered by his father when he went to see why he hadn't
returned to the house.
Survivors
include his parents, a sister, Florence at home, and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.
Geo. Swartz of Lenox.
The
body was taken to the Roland Funeral Home in Coming.
Funeral
services will be held at 2:30 today (Wednesday) at the Methodist church in
Lenox with Rev. Floyd Newbrough officiating.
Burial will be in the Lenox Cemetery.

Swartz, Edward Eugene -
Edward
Eugene Swartz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Swartz of rural Lenox, was killed
instantly Monday evening, November 20. He was unloading corn at the
time
of the accident and apparently became caught in the hydraulic lift on the
truck.
Edward
was born June 10, 1945 in Des Moines, Iowa. He received his early education in
the Grant township rural schools, and graduated from the Lenox Community
School
with the class of 1963. In school, he was active in music, football and track,
held an office in FFA and was on the Student Council and held class offices
during his junior and senior years.
In
the fall of 1963, he entered Iowa State University, enrolling in the two year
Collegiate Program in Agriculture, majoring in Farm Operation. He completed
this
course in the fall of 1965. Since that time he has operated a farm with his
father in Adams county.
Edward
was an active member of the Grant Go-Getters 4-H Club for eight years. During
this time he received many honors and awards, among them being
County
Boy's President, attending Kansas City Royal and receiving the Danforth Award in 1963.
Edward
was a member of the Stringtown Federated Church for
several years. Later he joined the Methodist Church in Lenox.
At
the time of his death, he was a member of the 34th Military Police company in
Des Moines, Iowa. Edward received his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood,
Missouri. He was then transferred to
Fort Gordon, Ga. where he was attached
to the Military Police Unit.
Edward
was an ambitious and enthusiastic young farmer. He and his father had made
plans for improving the methods of their farm operation. Edward
had
drawn up complete blueprints for a modem storage unit. This had been recently
completed and he enjoyed seeing it in operation.
His
desire to do a job well will always be an inspiration to his parents and
sister.
Survivors
include his parents, a sister, Florence a student at Iowa State University; his
grandparents, Mr and Mrs Geo Swartz of Lenox and many relatives and friends who will greatly miss him.
A
short service was held for relatives and friends at the Roland Funeral Home in
Corning, Tuesday evening, Nov. 21. Funeral services were conducted
Wednesday,
Nov. 22 at 3:00 p.m. at the Lenox Methodist Church by Rev. Floyd Newbrough, Rev. Mark Walvoord and
3th Division M.P. Attachment. Music was by
Miss Marjean Spicer at the organ. Interment was made in
the Lenox cemetery.
Pallbearers
were Roy Sours, Burton Cooper, Randall Riley, LeRoy Cooper, Edwin Ramsey and David Schweers. Flower
bearers were Mrs. Elvin Riley, Mrs. Marvin Routh and
Mrs. Joe Maynes.
Relatives
from a distance attending the funeral: Rev. and Mrs. Mark Walvoord,
Holland, Michigan; Wayne Cooper, Los Alamitos, Calif.; Mr and Mrs Willis Cooper, LeRoy,

has been received here of the death of Mrs. Emma Cattlett Troutman, 78, of Palm Harbour, Florida. Mrs.
Troutman, a former Lenox resident, died
Thursday,
November 18th.
Survivors
include her husband, Roy and one son, Sterling, both of Palm Harbour. She was a cousin of Warren Eckels of Lenox.
Funeral
services were conducted Monday, November 20th with burial in Palm Harbour.
