Boham, E R -
E.
R. Bpham, 71 years old, died Friday at the Veterans
Hospital in Omaha. Services were held Monday at the Bender Funeral Home, with
burial in the Lenox cemetery.
Mr Boham was born at Barnard, Mo, but had lived in Lenox
for some time. He was a former section foreman.
Survivors
include a son Lloyd of Cleveland, Ohio; three daughters, Mrs Mildred Davidson of Lenox, Mrs Ruth Gowey of Creston and Dolly of the
home.
There are 14 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Geo
F Davison passed away Dec 3 at the Lenox Nursing Home.
Mr Davison has lived in Lenox 23 years. He had been a salesman for International
Harvester Co. for many years before retiring about 5 years ago. He was
a
well known member of the American Legion.
Funeral
services were held Saturday, Dec 5 at the Bender Funeral Home to Lenox. Burial
was in the Lenox cemetery.
He
is survived by his wife Bernice and sister, Mrs Emily Lymer of College Springs.

Mrs Lynn T. (Esther) Eddy, 62, of Waterloo, died early Thursday morning at the
Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo after an extended illness.
Services
were Saturday at the Bethel United Presbyterian Church in Waterloo.
Survivors
are her husband, Lynn T. Eddy, 1 daughter, Mrs Ruth
Schneider of Niellsville, Wisc.;
2 sons, Rev James E. Eddy, pastor of the Lenox United
Presbyterian
Church; Jack Eddy of Freemont, Calif.; and 8 grandchildren.

Mrs Clara Estel, 93, died
at a nursing home in Mason City Monday. She and her husband John were long time residents of the Lenox and
Clearfield vicinities. Mr Estel was a former Lenox town
marshal.
Services
are being held Wednesday Nov 18 at the Bender Funeral Home with burial in the
Lenox cemetery.
Survivors
are a son, Walter of Mason City, Ia; a sister Mrs Grace Sprouse of Ellendale, N Dak and four grandchildren. Keith James is a grandson and lives at the Estel home.
Mrs Estel lived in her home
at 301 W Illinois until recent years. The home was remodeled by the Paul Painter family and is now the home of Mr and Mrs Virgil Vincent.

Clara
Belle Estel, daughter of James and Louisa Shepphard Newburn, was born July
23, 1871 near Roseville, Ill., and passed away Nov 16, 1964 at a nursing
home
in Mason City, la, at the age of 93 years, 3 months and 23 days. ,
On
Oct 30, 1888 she was married to John Morgan Estel near Clearfield, la. except for the past few years all her life was spent in
the Lenox and Clearfield
vicinity.
To this union were born 3 children, Charles Harrison, Nora Belle and Walter.
She
was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John, 2 sisters, Flora and
Ollie; seven brothers, George, Frank,
Lewis, Clyde, Charles, Earl and Orie;
1
son Charles Harrison and 1 daughter, Nora James.
She
leaves to mourn her passing 1 son Walter of Mason City, la.; 1 sister, Grace Sprouse of Ellendale, N Dak; 3
grandsons. Keith James of Lenox, Ia, Robert
Estel of Clear Lake, la., Ronald Estel of the U S Army; 1
granddaughter, Reva Harlow of Mason City; 10 great
grandchildren and many friends.
She
was a wonderful mother and friend who will be greatly missed.
Services
were Nov 18, at 2 p. m. at the Bender Funeral home in Lenox, conducted by Rev
Shaffer. Interment was in Lenox cemetery.

Leland
S. Graham of Houston, Tex., passed away Friday, Jan. 8. The family formerly
lived here. His widow was the former Oral Whistler of Lenox. There
were
two boys and two girls who also survive.
Mr Graham was about 67 years old. He was a brother of Delia Clayton and a cousin
of Mrs J. G. Leckliter.
Services
and burial were in Houston Jan. 11.

Mrs Mary L Hurley, 86, a resident of Lenox for many years, died
Thursday, Nov 12 at Raton, N Mex. The
funeral services were at 9 a. m; Monday at St
Patricks Catholic Church in Lenox with burial in St Patrick's cemetery.
Mrs Hurley had kept her home here as long as she was able, but about four years ago
she went to be near her children, first in Illinois and then in New Mexico.
Her
husband, Ott Hurley, a former Lenox town marshal,
died Nov 21, 1949. A daughter Betty Hurley Elliott died July 22, 1964 in El Torro, Calif., and
was
laid to rest in Holy Sepulcher cemetery, Orange, Calif.
Surviving
are three daughters, Mrs Esther Ryan, Raton, N M.; Mrs Roberta Fox, Wheaton, Ill.; and Mrs Helen Moss, Buffalo, N. Y.; two sons, Ed Hurley, Detroit
Lakes,
Minn.; and David Hurley of Oak Park, Ill., also several grandchildren.
All
the family mentioned above were present here for the funeral, also Reldon Ryan, a grandson from Albuquerque, N Mex.

Funeral
services were held Monday at the United Presbyterian church for Roy Madden, 58,
the Rev James Eddy officiating. Mr Madden passed away
Dec 17 after being in the hospital two days. The family had lived south of Kent
on a farm, but had purchased the Eshelman house on W
Temple last fall and moved there, retaining
the
farm.
Roy
Madden, twin son of Leonard and Adelia Murphy Madden
was born on a farm in Platte Township, Union County, la., Aug 3, 1906 and
departed this life at the Greater Community hospital, Creston on Dec 17, 1964
at the age of 58 years, 4 months and 14 days. He was raised on the farm where
he was born. He attended Kent
high
school and was graduated from the Creston high school in 1926. He was united in marriage to Bernice Louise
Johnson on March 10, 1928 at the Methodist church at Benton. To this union was born one daughter, Sharon
Kay.
Farming
was Roy's career after marriage. He, his
father and twin brother Ray farmed together until 1940 when Roy moved to a farm
3 miles south of Kent in Adams County. On August 25, 1964 they moved to a new home in Lenox. He is survived by his wife Bernice, his
daughter Sharon of Des Moines, 3 brothers, his twin brother Ray of Diagonal,
George of Bertrand, Neb, Leo of Kent and a half brother, Carl DeFord of Cassville, Ark., 4 sisters, Mrs. Horbert (Cora) Thomas, Creston, Mrs Orville (Ina) Porter, Santa Ana, Calif., Mrs. Rex (Ferne) Bakerink, Creston, and Mrs Eldon (Marjorie) Krueger of Creston, several nieces and nephews and a host of
friends.
He
was preceded in death by his father and mother, one brother Floyd and a half
sister, Florence.
Roy
was an active participant in community affairs and lent a helping hand when
needed.

Mrs Edna McAfee, 70, died Tuesday afternoon at her home in Davenport. She was born
on a farm near Lenox in Adams county and had lived in the Creston and Lenox
areas before moving to Davenport. Services were Saturday at 2:00 p. m., at the Runge Mortuary in Davenport. The body was brought to the
Bender Funeral Home Saturday evening.
Graveside
services were at the Lenox cemetery Monday at 10:00 a. m. with Rev Sidney Sterrett of the Mercer Center Church in charge.
Her
husband, Harlan, died in 1935. Survivors are a daughter, Mrs Julius (Leta) Paustian of
Walcott, la.; 3 sons, Wendell McAfee of Cedar Rapids; Willard
McAfee
of Anaheim, Calif., Clifford McAfee in the U. S. Navy; 14 grandchildren and a
brother, Carmon Alexander, of Lenox.

William
John Murchy, 76 former Lenox resident; died Nov. 13
at a hospital in Colorado Springs, Colo., after a lengthy illness. Funeral
services and
burial
were held Nov. 19 at Fort Morgan, Colo., where the Murchy family had lived since 1917.
Mrs Murchy, the former Ethel Key, died Sept. 27, 1958.
Survivors
include two daughters, Mrs Helen Tinn of Wheat Ridge, Colo., and Mrs. Martha Jean Burkett of Bakersfield, Calif.,
also six grandchildren
and
three great grandchildren.

Funeral
services for A Robert Nelson, former chief of the intelligence division of the
Internal Revenue Service in Indiana, were held Saturday, Dec 12, 1964
at
the Bender Funeral Home in Lenox. Mr Nelson died
Wednesday at age 64 in Clearwater, Fla., where he had made his home in
retirement.
He
moved from Indianapolis to Florida in 1961 after 27 years with the Internal
Revenue Service.
In
his ten years as chief of the division he won nationwide attention for
prosecutions of Terre Haute gamblers and Lake County politicians on charges of
tax
dodging.
In
1961 Mr Nelson was honored with the U & Treasury
Department's Albert Gallatin Award for length of service and 'fidelity to
duty."
Born
in Galesburg, Ill Aug 4, 1900, he was graduated from the University of Illinois
and was a Certified Public Accountant.
In
1937 Mr Nelson joined the Internal Revenue Service in
New York City. He was transferred to
Indianapolis in May 1941, as a special agent with the intelligence division.
Ten
years later he became chief and served in this capacity until his retirement.
He was a member of the Second Presbyterian church of Indianapolis.
Mr Nelson was a brother of the late Walter E Nelson, former regional sales
director of Eli Lilly and Co. He is survived by the widow, Margaret. He was a
brother-in-law
of Paul Davis of Lenox.

Lawrence
Schmitt, 61, died Thursday at his home in Kennewick, Wash. He was a son of the
late Mr and Mrs Tony
Schmitt of Lenox and lived here
until
he was about 18 years old.
The
family moved to Des Moines where Lawrence was married and went to live in
Washington.
He
leaves his widow Ruth, 4 step children and 12 grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs Bill Quinn of Lenox, Mrs Lou
Shaw of Des Moines; three brothers,
Hugh
of Omaha, Don and Floyd of Des Moines.
The
funeral and burial were in Washington Monday.

services were held Tuesday, Nov. 24 for Clark Smith, 66, who died here Nov. 21
at the home of his son Everett. Services were at the Blockton
Methodist
Church, the Rev Landis of Blockton officiating.
Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery near Blockton.

Clark
Smith, son of Andrew and Sylvia Smith, was born Dec. 11, 1897, in Taylor
County, la., and departed this life Nov. 21, 1064, at his son, Everett
Smith's
home in Lenox, at the age of 86 years, 11 months, 10 days.
He
spent most of his boyhood days around Athelstan, la., and Sheridan, Mo. He was
united in marriage to Ruby Matheny on Jan. 26, 1921. To this union was
born
eight children: Four daughters and four sons. His wife, Ruby, preceded him in
death Jan. 24, 1961.
Clark
was engaged in farming the earlier part of his marriage, but he was a mechanic
most of his active life in and around Blockton, la.
Due to his
health
he was retired for the past three years. These past years he made his home with
his daughter, Viola, in Kansas City, Mo., and his son Everett,
in
Lenox, la.
He
leaves to mourn his passing: Four daughters, Viola Madison of Kansas City, Mo.;
Gladys Newberg of Lakeport, Calif.; Bernice Brown of Blockton,
la.;
Ivadene Wilson of Kearny, Ariz. Four Sons: Everett and Harold Smith of Lenox, Francis
Smith of Spring Lake, N. Car., and Glenn Smith of Kansas
City,
Mo. Three daughters-in-law, 30 grandchildren;,. 6 great grandchildren. Two
sisters: Ellen Ricketts of Lyons, Kan.; Alice Deibolt of Piqua, Kan.
Two
brothers: Ivan Smith, of Yates Center, Kans, and Fred Smith of Moundridge, Kan.
There
are many other relatives and friends also.
Others
besides his wife who preceded him in death were his parents: Andrew and Sylvia
Smith; his sister, Laura Fern Smith.

Frank
J. Stamets, 81, died late Wednesday evening at the
Lenox Hotel where he had lived for 14 years. He was a retired bachelor farmer.
He had not been
sick
at all, but up and about as usual.
Services
were Saturday afternoon at the Bender Funeral Home, the Rev. David Shaeffer officiating. Survivors include a sister, Mrs Lester Johnson of
Lenox,
several nieces and nephews.

Frank
J. Stamets, son of J. N. and Hulda Stamets, was born Jan 21, 1883 and passed away Jan
13, 1965 at the Lenox Hotel at the age of 81 years, 11 months and 23 days. He was born and raised 6 miles west of Lenox.
When
a young man he united with the Blue Grove Christian Church of which his parents
were charter members.
Surviving
him is one sister, Mrs Beulah Johnson, also several
nieces and nephews.
Preceding
him in death were his parents, 4 sisters, Mrs Ella Leeper, of Vernon, British Columbia, Can., Mrs Allie Tisdale, Lacombe, Alberta, Can.; Mrs Maude Burke, Salem, Ore.; Mrs Mame Leach, Lenox; 3 brothers, Melvin, Elmer and
Johnny, all of Lenox; besides a host of friends with whom he loved to visit.
Frank
lived in and around Lenox all his life. He and his brother Melvin farmed
together until they moved to town in 1949. He then made his home with his
sister Mame, until her passing in 1951 and for the
past 14 years has made his home at the Lenox Hotel.
Frank
will be greatly missed by his many friends as he enjoyed visiting them in their
homes especially in sickness.
Services
were Jan. 10 at the Bender Funeral Home, the Rev D A Shaeffer officiating, with interment in the Lenox cemetery.

Moines died Sunday. She was a cousin of Mrs Byron
Brown and Elizabeth Stickleman of Des Moines

Bedford at 1:30 Wednesday. The family formerly lived near Bedford.

Clearfield for Fred Stoaks, who
passed away Dec. 4. The Herbert Phillips officiated

Fred
A. Stoaks, son of Fred H. and Sarah Preston Stoaks, was born January 19, 1881 in Mercer Township, Adams
County, and passed away at the Greater
Community
Hospital in Creston December 4, 1964, at
the age of 83 years, 10 months, 15 days.
He
spent his boyhood days on the farm where he was born and Attended the nearby
country school.
On
September 27,1905, he was united in marriage to Estella Atkln.
They established their home on a farm 1-1/2 miles south of Stringtown to the Salem
vicinity
where they lived for 35 years. Here their 8 sons were both, Raymond, Lyle, Cleo
and twins Max and Rex. A brother-in-law Chas B Atkto also lived
in
this home for 7 years. Fred spent his entire life farming and helping his boys
get established.
In
June 1940, Fred and Estella moved to a farm 3 miles southeast of Clearfield.
This was to be their home for nearly 24 years.
Upon
the death of their mother to 1943, infant twin grandchildren, Max and Marge,
came to live with them. As they grew up, Fred and Estella met
the
responsibility of seeing that their twins received an education. They attended all school activities
with them and shared their problems as well as their-joys.
They
were privileged to celebrate their 59th wading anniversary last September. In
October of this year, they moved to the present home in Clearfield.
Fred
was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sons, Max R and Rex M (twins), Lyle Berton who passed away this year and 2 brothers.
He
leaves to mourn his passing his wife Estella, 2 sons, Raymond of Ames and Cleo
of Lenox, 14 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 1 great
great
grand children; Also 2 sisters, Dora Caskey of Lenox
and Pearl Shaw, Spokane, Wash; one brother Andrew, Lenox, one brother-to-law
Chas B. Atkin.
He
was a member of the Methodist Church in Clearfield being baptized in 1942.
In
spite of failing health and because of the love he felt for young people and
children plus his great sense of humor, Fred seemed younger than his years
and
will be greatly missed by his acquaintances, young and old.
Six
of his grandsons were pall bearers, Gene, Larry, Gall, Howard, Max and Jimmy Stoaks.

Taylor of Truth or Consequences, N Mex., died Dec 20. Funeral services were held there Dec 28. Mr Taylor formerly lived here and worked for O P Arnold.
His
widow is the former Jeannette Layne. Friends here remembered only one child, a

Jessie
Tripp, 75, of Kent died at the Greater Community hospital in Creston
Saturday. Her death followed a long
illness.
Miss
Tripp was born and lived all her life on the same farm near Kent. She had taught school for 26 years and had
been active in Kent community church affairs all her life.
Funeral
services were Tuesday at the Prairie Star United Presbyterian Church. Rev James E Eddy of the Lenox church
officiated. Burial was in the Morgan
cemetery near Kent.
Jessie
Tripp was born at Kent March 1, 1869, the daughter of William F and Mary
Francis Tripp. She had never married.
She
is survived by two brothers, Dalton and Ralph Tripp, both of Kent, two sisters,
Grace Tripp of Kent and Mrs A B (Ruth) Rhoades of
Lenox, three nephews and five nieces.
Miss
Tripp was a member of the Prairie Star United Presbyterian Church.

Wynn, Woodrow -
Woodrow
Wynn and his wife Dorothy, both 42, were killed in a car accident northeast of
Creston Sunday about 6 p. m. They were
farmers near Prescott.
Mr Wynn was a nephew of Mrs Wes Crouch, The funeral is
today, Wednesday, at the Corning Methodist Church with burial in Mt Zion
cemetery near
Prescott.
Survivors
include Mr Wynn's father and mother, Mr and Mrs Guy Wynn, two married
daughters, Mrs Gary Krauth and Mrs Ronnie Walter, two sons, Paul

and Kevin, 12, also 5 grandchildren.
The
accident happened at the top of a hill on a gravel road.
