Funeral services
for William Donald Bennett, 80, of Clearfield, held July 22 in the Clearfield
Christian Church, were conducted by Carl Cummings.
Mr. Bennett died
July 19, 1979 in Greater Community Hospital in Creston. Interment was at
Clearfield Cemetery, Clearfield, Iowa.
William Donald
Bennett, son of George DeForrest Bennett and, Alice
Jackson Bennett, was born on a farm near Lenox, Iowa, on November,
28, 1898.
He was united in
marriage to Bernice Margaret House of Clearfield, Iowa, on February 23, 1927,
and they established their home on a farm located
between
Clearfield and Lenox where they have continued to reside.
To this union
three children were born: Ivan, Lois and Joan. He was a member of the country
Methodist Calvary Church of Lenox and later
joined the
Clearfield Christian Church and remained a faithful member as long as health
permitted.
Left to cherish
his memory are his wife, Bernice, and the three children: Ivan and his wife
Jane of Clearfield, Iowa; Lois and her husband, Daryl
Rodman, of
Omaha, Nebraska; and Joan Parker of Omaha, Nebraska; 12 grandchildren David
Rodman, Debra and her husband, Rich La Claire, of
Omaha, Caroline
Parker and husband, Robert Huffman, of Yutan, Nebraska; Karen, Bill, Sharon and
Larry Parker of Omaha; Diane Bennett and
husband, Roger
Knudson, of Omaha; Marilyn Bennett and husband, Robert Hildner,
of Royal Oak, Mich; Barbara Bennett and husband, Jim
Parrish of
Kent, Iowa; Keith
and Tim Bennett of Clearfield, Iowa. Four great grandchildren: Robert and Shevannah Huffman of Yutan, Neb; Andy and Dane Parish of
Kent, Iowa.
Several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded
in death by his parents, twin brother David, and two sisters, Marie Bennett and
Flora Bennett. His family and loved ones
will remember
him as a kind and loving husband, father, a good neighbor and loyal friend. He
will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved him.

Clapper, Amelia Stanger -
Services for
Amelia Clapper, 82, were held Wed., June 27 at Larkin-Bender Funeral Home with
Jack Cutbirth, minister of the Christian Church
officiating. Harley A. Porter
was organist for
the service. Casket bearers were Ed Ward, Robert Fleming, Vernal Thompson,
Gerald Carruthers, Doyle Devoe and Keith Smith.
Interment was in Blue Grove Cemetery.
Amelia Stanger
Clapper, the daughter of Daniel and Katherina Haering Stanger, was born on August 29, 1896 on a farm near
Lenox and died at the Lenox
Care Center on
June 25 at the age of 82.
At an early age she became a member of the Blue Grove Church. After her
schooling Amelia moved to Creston and was employed in the office of Drs. Childs
and Sampson.
On October 7, 1929 she married Jordan Clapper. In September of 1936 they
moved to Shorten, Wash. There she was an active charter member of the Faith
Lutheran Church, the
South Side Grange, The Rebekah Lodge, and the
Shelton Garden Club.
In September of 1971 she moved back home to Lenox and became a member of the Lenox Christian Church and Rebekah Lodge, receiving her 50 year pin in February of 1979.
Her husband died
in September, 1971. Survivors include a brother, Frank Stanger and his wife Martha,
a sister, Alma Fleming, all of Lenox, a brother-in-law; Roy Brumbaugh
and six nieces and three nephews.

Creveling, Alexander Roger -
Alexander Roger Creveling, son of Sid and Ethel Creveling,
was born at Sharpsburg March 26, 1901. He passed away May 15 at the age of 78
years.
He had been a
farmer near Lenox for 14 years, and had lived in Omaha to be near his daughter
for the past eight years.
Funeral services
were held May 18 at Dvorak Mortuary in Omaha.
He was married
to Hazel Jones April 4, 1925. They were parents of one daughter, Donna Teeters
of Omaha.
Survivors are
his wife, Hazel, his daughter, Mrs. Dale Teeters, two grandchildren, Mrs. Jack Caniglia and William Teeters; also two great grandchildren,
DeAnn and Nicholas; two sisters, Ada Stapleton of Council
Bluffs and Bernice Brown of San Jose, Calif.; and two brothers, Arthur of
Imperial,
Nebr., and Sidney of Clarinda

Florence Mable
Dennis. 85, of. Clarinda, passed away Thurs., June 14 at the Municipal Hospital
there. She was
born Jan. 19,
1894 at Lancaster, Mo., to John and Sarah Coffman.
She is survived
by one sister, Harriate Derigo of Lancaster; sons Blain Stogdill of Des Moines,
Maynard Stogdill
of Colorado
Springs, Colo.; and one daughter, Mrs. Victor (Monna)
Newman of Clarinda; three grandchildren and five
great
grandchildren.
Services were
Saturday, June 16 at Clarinda, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, Lenox.
The deceased was
a former resident of this community.

Mrs. Edwin Dodds, 83, of Minneapolis, Minn., died there March 30. The
funeral and burial were there.
Mrs. Dodds was the former Fern Goodale,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Goodale of Lenox. Her
father was a jeweler here.

Hamilton J
Ferguson, 87, passed away May 7 at Lenox. The service was May 10 at

Interment was in
West Fairview Cemetery.
Hamilton J.
Ferguson, son of George and Janet Frew Ferguson was
born near Lenox February 15, 1892 and grew to maturity in Taylor County, where
he attended the public
school.
He was united in
marriage to Stella M. Donaldson at her parents' home near Lenox March 10, 1915
by Rev. Walter Morgan.
To this union
two children came to bless this home, Maxine and Richard.
He spent most of
his life farming near Lenox and Bedford, except six years they lived in Fort
Dodge where he was in the Implement business
and one year in
Whittier, Calif., where he worked at the carpenter trade.
He was a member
of the Lenox United Methodist Church and had served on the Platte Township
school board a number of years.
Hamilton died
May 7, 1979 at the age of 87 at Lenox. He was preceded in death by his parents
and three sisters, Mary Tuttle, Stella Stoner, Margaret Duncan and one
brother Tom
Ferguson.
Left to cherish
his memory are his wife Stella of Lenox; daughter, Maxine and husband Vern
Swanson of West Des Moines; son, Richard and wife Dorothy of Des
Moines; five
grandchildren, Dr. John Swanson and wife, Jan of Astoria, Ore.; Jack Swanson of
San Francisco, Calif.; Kay Swanson Boiler and husband, Jim of Waukee; Jane
Swanson of Ames; and Karen Ferguson Evans and husband Brian of Des Moines and
one great grandson, Jacob Boiler.
Also one brother
George Ferguson of Lenox; two sisters Flora Arnold of Des Moines and Mabel
Armstrong of Lenox; two sisters-in-law, Mary and Vera Ferguson of Lenox
and several
cousins and other relatives and a host of friends.
He will be
remembered by his family as a loving and devoted husband and father a cherished
grandfather and a true friend, one who was giving
of his time in
helping others as long as health permitted. He will be sadly missed by all who
knew and loved him.

Grimm, Leonard -
Funeral services
for Leonard Grimm, 89, long time resident of Sharpsburg, were conducted by Carl
Cummings July 24 in Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford. Mr.
Grimm died July
21, 1979 in Greater Community Hospital in Creston. Interment was at Washington
Cemetery in Gravity, Iowa.
Leonard Grimm,
son of George W. Grimm and Sarah Ellert Grimm, was
born at Rapatte, Illinois, June 1, 1890.
When he was six
years old he moved with his parents to the Sharpsburg, Iowa, area in Taylor
County, where he attended the public school and
the Presbyterian
Church.
On June 15,
1921, he was united in marriage to Mabel Claire Clark at Chariton, Iowa. They lived
on a farm two miles west of Sharpsburg, Iowa and
farmed until
1934 when they moved to Osceola, Missouri.
During World War
II they moved to Kansas City where he was employed in the Bomber Plant for 22
months. In 1948 they returned to Sharpsburg where for the last
31 years they
have made their home.
He was a veteran
of World War I and was stationed in France for a year with the U.S. Inf.
Company D-88th Division 351 Regiment. During the time he was in
France he was
able to visit the grave of his brother, Seaton Grimm, who had been killed in
action during the war. He was a member of the American Legion
Grimm-Short Post
of Sharpsburg before it disbanded and for a time he was a member of the
Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was preceded
in death by his parents, three brothers, Loyd, Ben
and Seaton and one sister, Maude.
Left to cherish
his memory are his wife, Mabel of the home in Sharpsburg; three children:
Leland and his wife, Betty, of Phoenix Arizona, June Anderson and
her husband,
Andy, of Sharpsburg, Jeanne Tillman and her husband Frank, of Sharpsburg; seven
grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two
brothers, Louis
Grimm of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Thomas Grimm of Sharpsburg; one sister.
Hazel Ditto, of Makwa, Canada; other relatives and
many friends.
His family and
friends will remember his as a kind and considerate husband, father,
grandfather and friend and he will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved
him.

Maharry, Louis Cook -
Louis Cook Maharry, 79, died May
19 at Green River, Utah. The funeral and
burial were at Green River May 23.
Mr. Maharry was a brother of Cecil Maharry and a son of Mr. and Mrs. M.B. Maharry.
He was born in Lenox October 11, 1899, and left here for Utah in 1910.

Bertha Isabelle Jones -
Funeral services for Bertha McFee, 87, were
held June 20 at the United Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Don Fisher officiating.
Roberta Lockhart was organist and Gwen Maynes,
soloist. A congregational hymn was used.
Casket bearers were Walter Brokaw, Paul Brokaw, Glen Brokaw, Ivan
Gilbert, Robert Cain and John Borland. Interment was in East Fairview Cemetery.
Bertha Isabelle McFee was born at the farm home northeast of Lenox December
4, 1891, the daughter of John A. and Catherine Cummings Jones.
January 1, 1913,
she was married to Lewis W. McFee. They lived on the
farm at first, then moved to the home at 123 E. Nebraska St.
Her husband passed away August 12, 1964. Bertha entered the Lenox Care
Center May 24, 1979, and died there June 18.
She had been a
member of the United Presbyterian Church for 75 years, was a past
president of the UPW, and a member of the Mayflower Federated Club.
She leaves two sons,
Kenneth and Wayne of Lenox; a daughter Mrs. Arthur (Bonita) Mohler of Des Moines; seven grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren;
also two
sisters, Mrs. Cecil Maharry and Mrs. John Borland
both of Lenox.

Norton, Pauline Beal -
Mrs. Pauline
Norton, 71, died June 9 at the Lenox Care Center. Services were held at the
Larkin-Bender Funeral Home Tues., June 12, the Rev. W.C.
Trembly officiating. Norma Paymal was organist with vocal
music by Marilyn Beck and Billie Jean Barker.
Casket bearers
were Dean Norton, Gene Norton, Earl McKay, H.H. Brown, Vernon Straight and Tom
Larson. Interment was in Lexington Cemetery
near Bedford.
Pauline Beal
Norton was born March 1, 1908, the youngest daughter of John and Emma Ashcraft
Beal of rural Conway.
When she was two
years old, the family took up a homestead in Gilt Edge, Mont., and lived here
until the fall of 1919,
when Pauline and
her father returned to Conway by covered wagon, a journey that took two months.
She finished
school in Conway, graduating in 1927. On May 28, 1928, Pauline Beal and John
Norton of Conway were married. They were parents
of three
children, a stillborn daughter, one son Jim Norton of Marietta, Ga., and one
daughter, Ann Sawyer of Lenox.
In 1946 the
Norton family moved to Hopkins, Mo,, where they lived until Pauline moved to
Lenox in 1969.
She was preceded
in death by her husband, an infant daughter, her parents and two sisters.
Survivors
include Jim Norton and wife Dot, Ann Sawyer and husband Bill; grandchildren,
Dr. Steven Sawyer and wife Connie of Lenox, Jill Brown
and husband Mike
of Fairbury, Nebr., and Scott Sawyer and wife Annie of Mason City; two great
grandchildren, Tyson Sawyer of Lenox and Bradley
Sawyer, Mason
City; three sisters, Edna Hambley of Conway, Anna
Dunbar of Snohomish, Wash., and Carrie Taylor of Lewistown, Mont; and several
nieces and
nephews.
Mrs. Norton
joined the Methodist Church in Conway in 1932 and transferred her membership to
Hopkins and finally to the United Methodist Church
in Lenox in
1977.

Reason, Ralph Avery -
Ralph A. Reason,
71, died at St. Joseph's Hospital in Omaha on June 9, 1979, after a long
illness. Services were at Larkin-Bender Funeral Home
Tue. June 12 at
10 a.m., the Rev. Donald Fisher officiating, assisted by Rev. W.C. Henn.
Norma Paymal was organist.
Casket Bearers
were Floyd Davidson, George Reynolds, Leland Hegwood,
Homer Teatsworth, and Eldon Ewart.
Interment was in
North Fairview Cemetery.
Ralph Avery
Reason was born April 27, 1908 at Anita, the son of Angelo and Eva Engleman Reason.
He was married
to Lucille Bradley at Maryville, Mo., Nov. 7, 1932. He was a veteran of World
War II, having served in the U.S. Navy.
He had lived in
Lenox for 47 years. During that time he was general manager of the Telephone
Company at Prescott for 20 years.
After his
retirement, he had a shop at his home where he sharpened and repaired tools,
worked with antique clocks and
did various
types of work, always keeping busy.
Survivors are
his wife, Lucille, a daughter, Juanita Reed and her husband, Don, of Alburnett, la.; a son Richard and his wife Gay of Lenoir,
N.C.;
nine
grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
He was the last
of his family having been preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and
a sister.

Teply, Martha Catherine Stapleton
Sprague -
Martha C. Teply, 63, died at Rosary Hospital, Mon., Apr. 9, 1979.
Services were held at Larkin-Bender Funeral Home Wed, Apr. 11 at 2 p.m., the
Rev. W.C. Trembly officiating.
Music was by
Norma Paymal, organist.
Casket bearers
were Larry Rogers, Pete Fitzgerald, Roy Martin, George Albrecht, Terry Larimer
and Dick Larimer.
Interment was in
West Fairview Cemetery.
Martha Catherine Teply, the daughter of William and Catherine Schmitt
Stapleton, was born on September 14, 1915 in Lenox.
She grew to
womanhood with her family in the Lenox community and was united in marriage
with Howard E. Sprague
at Creston, Iowa
on April 8, 1933. He preceded her in death several years ago; she was also
preceded in death by her parents;
a sister Mary
who died in infancy; four brothers: Herman, Walter, Thomas and Tina Stapleton;
two half-brothers;
Bert and Elmer
Stapleton; and a granddaughter, Sherry Lee Sprague.
On October 20,
1971 Martha was united in marriage with, Frank Teply at Lake Taho, Nevada. They then made their home in
Lenox and have been
active in many
different clubs and community groups.
She is survived
by her husband, Frank Teply of Lenox; son, Harry
Sprague of Lenox, a step-daughter, Mrs. Lanny (Kay)
Helton of Sioux Falls,
South Dakota; a
sister, Mrs. Dale (Alice) Wynn of Corning and by two grandchildren, eight
step-grandchildren and one step great grandson; as well as
many nieces and
nephews and friends.

Annabelle Mabel Herbert -
Annabelle Mabel Thomson, 65, of Clearfield, died
July 16, 1979 at Greater Community Hospital in Creston. The funeral was July 18 at the United
Methodist Church in Clearfield, the Rev Bill Hasenyager officiating.
The music was by Marcella Jensen, pianist, and
Donald Jensen and Jonelle Smith. Casketbearers were
Don Smith, Dale Juergens, Maurice Hanson, Dwight Matheny,
Byron Hefmeister, Ed Butler, John R Butler and Wayne
Herbert.
Flower bearers were Dr and Mrs Mel Pence and Mr and Mrs Vernie Horton, Interment was in Clearfield Cemetery.
The daughter of
Roy Joseph and Mabel Smith Herbert, Mrs Thomson was
born in Cass County, Iowa July 2, 1914. She
attended Pymosa No. 3 School and graduated from Atlantic high school
in 1932.
She taught in
rural schools six years, then married Vale Ulan Thomson, DVM July 28, 1938 at
the home of her parents.
They lived in
Gravity four years before
Vale served four years in World War II. After that they moved to Clearfield in
1946.
She is survived
by her husband, of the home, a daughter, Jo Ann Avey,
Princeton, Mo., a son John Ulan Thomson, D.V.M., Clearfield, daughter-in-law,
Kay Thomson;
son-in-law James Avey, three grandsons, Dan and Dave
Thomson, and Josh Avey; a granddaughter, Holly Avey, and two sisters,
Mrs. Dale
(Irene) Butler, and Mrs. Alfred (Ada) Jensen,
Atlantic.
She was preceded
in death by her parents, two brothers, Harry in 1903 and Joe in 1974.
She was a member
of the Methodist Church.
She was a member
of the United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary, Entrenous and Merry Matrons Clubs, Iowa and National Veterinary
Medical
Auxiliaries, and past president of the Southwest Iowa Veterinary Medical
Auxiliary.
She was a
receptionist, bookkeeper and veterinary office or field assistant for her
husband.

Tripp,
Dayton F -
Funeral services for Dayton Tripp, 88, were held May 9 at the United
Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Don Fisher officiating.
Mrs. Robert Lockhart was organist; Gwen Maynes was soloist.
Casket bearers were David Tripp, Robert Rhoades, Jeff Mathers,
Curt Ostrem. Roger Ide, and
Jim Moyle. David H. Tripp was Honorary Bearer.
Interment was in the Morgan Cemetery near Kent.
Dayton F. Tripp was born November 12, 1890 in Adams County the son of
William F. and Mary Francis Tripp. A long time resident of the Kent
Community, he died Sunday, May 6 at the Rosary Hospital in Corning.
Dayton received his education in the school in this area and was married
on June 18, 1919 to Dora E. Killinger who preceded
him in death on December
26, 1974.
He was an active member of the Prairie Star Church where he had served in
many of the church offices. He became a member of the Lenox United
Presbyterian Church at the time the Prairie Star Church merged with the
Lenox church.
Dayton enjoyed his farm heritage and had lived his entire life on the
same farm until ill health forced him to become a resident of the Clearfield
Home. He spent the past four and one half years as a patient there.
He is survived by two sisters, Grace Tripp of Lenox; and Mrs. A.R. (Ruth)
Rhoades of Lenox. Also one sister in law, Mrs. Ralph Tripp of Creston,
and two brothers-in-law, J.R. Killinger of
Somerset, Kentucky and Gordon Killinger of Gainsville, Florida, three nephews and five nieces.

Wall, Florence Ethelyne Stottlemyer -
Funeral Services
for Mrs. Floyd (Florence) Wall, 79, of Shenandoah, la. were held August 4 in
the Shenandoah United Methodist Church with
Rev. Donald D. Mltchem and Rev. Jim Dale officiating.
Mrs. Wall died
August 1 in Hand Community Hospital in Shenandoah where she had been a patient
since July 23.
American War
Mothers conducted a memorial service at Fairview Cemetery, Lenox, Iowa.
Florence Ethelyne Stottlemyer, second
child of Atlee and Delia June Stottlemyer, was born
near Lenox, Iowa March 1, 1900.
On February 22,
1921 she was united in marriage to Floyd B. Wall at Creston, Iowa. To this
union one son was born, Paul Laverne. She
had been a
resident of Lenox and Corning communities until 1947 when they moved to
Shenandoah. One month ago she moved to
Bedford to be
near her family.
She was baptized
at an early age into the United Methodist Church, of which she was a devoted
member.
She was preceded
in death by her parents, her husband, Floyd, a son, Paul Laverne, a grandson,
Steven Laverne, and two sisters, Mrs. Elva Davis
and Mrs. Thelma Sabotka.
Her survivors
include a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Laverne (Christina) Wall; grandson, Mark Wall;
granddaughter and her husband. Marsha and Gary
Swartz, three
grandchildren, Lori, Lisa and Jeremy Swartz; of Bedford, three sisters Helen
Lawrence, Muskegon, Mich., Faye Zea, Ames, Iowa,
Frances Fulfs, Underwood, Iowa; one brother, Donald Stottlemyer, Council Bluffs; other relatives and a host of
friends.
A memorial is
being established for the United Methodist Church and the American War Mothers
of Shenandoah.
She was kind,
considerate, and will be missed by all.
