Becherer, Gertrude Posten -
Funeral services
for Mrs. William B. (Gertrude Posten) Becherer, 85, of Gravity, held October 13 in the Gravity
Christian Church, were conducted by Rev. Mel Smith. The
Rebekah Lodge presented a memorial service in the church.
Mrs. Becherer died October 10, in the Lenox Care Center, Lenox.
Interment was at Washington Cemetery, Gravity.
Gertrude Posten Becherer, daughter of
Eugene J. Posten and Ida A. Irwin Posten,
was born near Gravity February 24, 1893. She grew to maturity in Gravity where
she attended the public school and Christian Church.
On August 11,
1962 she was united in marriage to William B. Becherer at the Lenox Christian Church and they lived in Gravity.
Mrs. Becherer was postmistress in Gravity for 28 years.
She was a member
of the Gravity Christian Church, Eastern Star and Rebekah Lodge.
Mrs. Becherer was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and
two sisters, Inez and Icea Posten.
Left to cherish
her memory are one sister, Mrs. Helen Chandler of Santa Ana, Calif.; a
step-son, Gene Becherer of Omaha; a step-daughter,
Shirley Lucas, Washington, la.; two
nieces Jeanne Mohnam, Wilmette, Ill. and Mary Gibson, Newburg Park,
Calif.
She was a kind
and considerate daughter, wife, sister and friend and will be missed by all who
knew and loved her.

Funeral services
for Mrs. Edward P. (Jennie Mae) Bigger, 78, of Lisbon, la. were held September
7 in the United Methodist Church in Lisbon with Rev. Robert Wilcox officiating.
Interment was at
Lisbon Cemetary. Jennie Mae Bigger was born March 9,
1900 in Lenox where she graduated from Lenox High School. After graduation she
went to University of Iowa in Iowa City where she met her husband.
She was married
to Dr. Edward P. Bigger in 1923 in Iowa City. She had lived in Lisbon since
1924.
Mrs. Bigger was
a member of the United Methodist Church and was a past matron of the Order of
the Eastern Star and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Surviving are two
daughters, Mrs. Harold Kent, Lisbon, and Mrs. Stan Heald,
Cedar Rapids; a son Harry, Mount Vernon; three grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren: and a sister Mrs. Minnie Boom, Lucerne Valley, Calif.

Private funeral services for Arthur Charley Book, 93, of Bedford, held in
Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford, were conducted by Rev. Dwayne Madsen.
Mr. Book died October
Arthur Charley Book, son of Charley John and Mathilda Isaccson Book, was born at Chicago, Illinois on July
17, 1885.
When he was five years of age his mother died and he came to Page County,
Iowa, with his brother and sister to be reared by relatives. While a young man,
he joined the Swedish
On August 26, 1908 he was united in marriage to Anna Lula Anderson at the
home of her parents. They lived in Yorktown, Iowa, where Arthur was a rural
mail carrier for 10
To this union two sons were born: Carl Leroy who preceded him in death in
1960 and Laverne of Lenox.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1919 and two brothers and a
sister.
A sister, Mildred Kinneman of Bradley, Illinois
survives. He is also survived by the son and wife of Lenox; a daughter-in-law,
Margaret J. Book with whom he has made
his home for 47 years; one grandson; one granddaughter; five great
grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.

Funeral services
for John Lloyd Cribbs, 39, of Sharpsburg, held
September 11 in Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford, were conducted by Rev.
Larry Secor, Rev. Wilfon
John Lloyd Cribbs was born on May 13, 1939 in Omaha, Nebraska; grew up
in Niles, Michigan; and spent his summers on the farm of his grandparents,
Harry and Fern Pennebaker
Jack began
farming upon graduation from high school in 1957 and continued until his death.
On November 8, 1958, he and Donna L. Brand of Sharpsburg were united in
marriage.
They were
blessed with two children, Karen Sue and Dennis Dale, both residing at home.
Jack became ill
in April of 1978 and was called to be home with his Lord in heaven while at
home on September 9, 1978.
He accepted the
Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour early in
life and joyfully served in church Sunday School and Bible Study groups and by
witnessing with deed and message.
Left to cherish
his memory are his wife, Donna; his children, Karen and Dennis; his parents,
John and Ada Cribbs of
Peel, Arkansas; two brothers Gary of Romeoville, Illinois;
Paul of
Mishawaka, Indiana; one sister, Connie Corbit of
Denver, Colorado; grandparents; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law;
parents-in-law; nieces and nephews; aunts, uncles,
cousins and
friends.
He will be
greatly missed by his family as a wonderful husband, loving father, his
community as a willing worker and by all of us as our good friend.

Funeral services for Mrs. Wilbur (Fay Rutledge) Day, 83, of Des Moines,
held September 9 in Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford, were conducted by
Rev. Dwayne Madsen.
Mrs. Day died September 5, 1978 in Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.
Interment was at Lexington Cemetery, Clayton Township, Taylor County, Iowa.
Fay Rutledge Day, daughter of Abraham and Mary Ellen Rutledge, was born
in Sharpsburg, Iowa July 20, 1895. She lived in Sharpsburg and grew to maturity
there where she attended the public school and the Methodist Church.
In 1920 she was united in marriage to Wilbur Day in Des Moines, Iowa and
they lived in Des Moines.
To this union two children were born. Bill Day and Robert Day.
She was employed by the Des Moines Public School System for 30 years.
Mrs. Day was a member of the United Methodist Church and Order of the Eastern
Star.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son; one
sister and two brothers.
Left to cherish her memory are one son, Robert, of Des Moines; three
sisters, Helen Clayton of Bedford; Harriet Thornell of Clarinda, and Mary Allene of Pueblo, Colo.; six
grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
She was a kind and considerate mother and sister and will be missed by
all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services
for Claude E. Dixon, 82, World War I veteran and Lenox businessman since 1935,
were held November 6, at the United Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Don
Fisher
officiating.
Mr. Dixon died
at Clearview Home in Mount Ayr November 4, 1978. Military rites were conducted by Parkinson Post No. 250 of
the American Legion of which he was a 50-
Claude Eugene,
second son of Frank H. and Ameila Minnick Dixon was
born at Mount Vernon, Iowa October 30, 1896.
Claude received
his education in Kansas, Oklahoma and Iowa. At an early age he joined the
United States Army and served his country during World War I in France.
Following his
honorable
discharge from the Army he began his lifelong career with the Ford Motor
Company by going to work at the Ford Plant in Des Moines. In March of 1929 he
came to
In March of 1935
he became a direct Ford dealer and the business had continued until the present
as the Dixon Motor Company. During these years Claude was interested
and also managed
his own farming operations.
On December 16,
1930 he was united in marriage to Esther Wallace at Mount Ayr and the home was established in Lenox. He was preceded in death by his wife,
Esther, on October 6, 1972, his parents, a brother Glen, a sister,
Mildred Lucille, and a nephew Charles Smith. Those who survive are two
brothers, Francis Dixon of Gowrie, and William Dixon of
Claude was a
member of the Lenox United Presbyterian Church, a 50 year member of Tremont
Masonic Lodge #343, AF & AM of Lenox; a member of Salome Chapter, Order of

Funeral services
for Robert C. Donaldson, 71, of Sharpsburg were held Monday, Oct. 2 at the
United Presbyterian Church in Sharpsburg, the pastor, Don Fisher, officiating.
Casket bearers
were Paul Chitty, Gerald Boydston, Robert W. Brown,
Richard Fitzgerald, Paul Oxley and Richard Wilson.
Jan Beach was
organist and Linda Spring and Chris Long were vocalists.
Tremont Lodge
No. 343, A.F. and A.M. had charge of the graveside rites at North Fairview
Cemetery, Lenox.
Robert C.
Donaldson, the oldest son of John and Lizzie Swindle Donaldson, was born in
Taylor County on December 6, 1907, and he departed this life at his home in
Sharpsburg on
Bob grew up on
the family farm northwest of Lenox and attended the country school near his
home.
On March 5, 1931
he was united in marriage with Mildred Grimm of Sharpsburg, and to this union
two children were born.
Bob and Mildred
made their home on a farm south of Lenox and for the past 23 years have spent
their winters in St. Petersburg, Florida. In 1975 they moved to their present
home.
Early in his
youth he became a member of a rural church, later transferring to the United
Presbyterian Church at Sharpsburg.

memories of his life so well lived are his wife, Mildred of the home; son
Donald and his wife Betty of rural Sharpsburg; and daughter Janette and her
husband Brad

in death by his parents and a sister Evelyn.
Bob was a member
of the Masonic Lodge #343 A.F. and A.M. of Lenox, and was a former member of
the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine in Des Moines. For many years he

A Lenox man,
Charles L. Dukes, 37, was killed Tuesday morning in an accident on a county
road project near Bedford, according to an incomplete reports.
Dukes was killed
when a dragline he was operating overturned while the crew was installing a
tube in the road near the Osborn Farms property
southeast of
Bedford.
Dukes was the
son of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Dukes.
Funeral
arrangements are pending at press time at the Larkin-Bender Funeral Home.

for Charles Leslie Dukes , 37, of Lenox were held in the Lenox United Methodist

accidently killed on October 17 southeast of Bedford. Interment was at North

Charles Leslie
Dukes, son of Russell and Dorothy Bivens Dukes, was
born in Lenox, la. on June 18, 1941. Charles grew up in the Lenox Community
where he attended the schools.
He was united in
marriage with Betty Shinn on December 9, 1977 at Grant City, Mo.
He is survived
by his wife Betty of Lenox; two sons, David and Brad Dukes; a daughter, Kelly
Dukes; two stepsons, Donnie and Cory Shinn; a step-daughter, Cyndi Shinn
all of whom live
in Lenox; his parents, Russell and Dorthy Dukes of
Lenox; two brothers, Allen Dukes of Lenox and LeRoy Dukes of Bedford, la.; six sisters, Wilma (Mrs. Orlen)
Shearer of Creston, Helen (Mrs. Kenneth) Hinshaw of Maloy, and Linda (Mrs. Larry) Cordell, Lora (Mrs. David
Brown), Bobbi (Mrs. Delvin) Weaver and Kathi Dukes all of who live in Lenox; grandmother, Helen Bivens of the Clearview Nursing
Home in Clearfield. Iowa; 13 nieces and nephew; several aunts, uncles and
cousins, as well as a host of friends.

Funeral services
for Bryan Eberle, 80, of Lenox, held October 12 in
Larkin-Bender Funeral Home in Lenox, were officiated by Pastor Don Fisher.
Mr. Eberle died October 9, 1978 while visiting his daughter in
Lincoln, Nebraska. Interment was at West Fairview Cemetery, Lenox.
Bryan Eberle, son of Charles and Elizabeth Koch Eberle, was born April 23, 1898, in Adams County, Iowa.
He moved to a
farm southeast of Lenox in 1917 where he enjoyed farming until his death.
He was united in
marriage October 4, 1933, to Pearl Haering.
To this union
was born three children, Donavon Dean, who died in infancy; Raedene Combs of Lincoln , Neb., and Marlene Riley of Lenox, la.
He was preceded
in death by his parents, one sister, Hilda Wurster,
his brother Lee Eberle and his infant son.
Surviving are
his wife, Pearl; two daughters; son-in-law, Dale Riley, five grandchildren,
Lynda, Karyn and JoAnne Riley and Eric and Bryan
Combs; a host of other relatives and friends.

for Herby C. Larson, 81, of New Market, were held October 14 in Walker-Merrick
Funeral Home in Clarinda with Carl Cummings and Loren Daly officiating. Mr.
Herby C. Larson,
son of Thomas and Betsy Thompson Larson, was born March 5, 1897 near Strand,
Iowa.
He was united in
marriage to Lillie Johnson on January 1, 1923 and to this union were born nine
children, all of them still living.
He was baptized
in the Lutheran faith at an early age. He was a farmer and at the time of his
death was living on the farm one mile east of New Market.
He was preceded
in death by four brothers and two sisters, also one grandson, and one great
grandson.
He is survived
by his wife Lillie, and his nine children: Bradley, Dallas, Verlin,
Merrill, Gary, and Lyndall, all of New Market, Iowa,
Ruby (Mrs. Jerry Wilson) of Carter Lake,
Iowa, Donna
(Mrs. Forland Hill) of Blockton,
Iowa, and Darwin Larson of Fargo, North Dakota.
There are 18
grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He also leaves two sisters: Mrs.
J.C. Forsythe (Marie) of Villisca, Iowa and Mrs. Myrtle Peterson of Rockwell,
Iowa.
Also, to cherish
his memory are several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Faye (Madge Marie) Reynard, 83, of Bedford,
were held September 10 in Shum-Novinger Funeral Home here conducted by Carl
Cummings. Mrs. Reynard
Madge Marie Horton Reynard, daughter of John and Carrie Mae Cunningham
Horton, was born near Lenox, Iowa, May 17, 1895.
She lived in Ringgold and Taylor Counties most of her life.
On October 2, 1912, she was united in marriage to Faye Reynard and to
this union three children were born, Hilda Mae, Donna and Lloyd.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband who died August 16,
1974, two sisters and three brothers.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Hilda Mae Liston and her
husband, Dee, of Gravity, Iowa, Donna Hamilton and her husband, Byron, of
Mitchellville,
Iowa, Lloyd Reynard and his wife, Genevieve, of Creston, Iowa; two
grandsons, Halwyn Hamilton and his wife, Sandra; and
Michael Reynard and his wife, Julie; five great
grandchildren; one brother. Floyd Horton, of Lenox, Iowa; two
sisters-in-law, Ruth Horton of Clearfield, Iowa, and Blanche Horton of Alberta,
Canada.
She spent many hours doing beautiful handwork and shared it generously
with her many friends and relatives.
She attended the
United Methodist Church.
Her family and friends will remember her as a kind and loving considerate
wife, mother, grandmother, friend and neighbor, and she will be sadly missed by
all who knew and loved her.

for Clark Willis Robey, 86, of Bedford, were held
October 14 in Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford conducted by Rev. Dwayne
Madsen. Mr. Robey died October 11, 1978 in Clarinda
Municipal Hospital. Interment was at Lexington Cemetery, Taylor County, la.
Clark Willis Robey, son of William Anderson and Retta Biggs Robey, was born in Taylor County, Iowa,
December 7, 1891.
He grew to
maturity in Taylor County where he attended the public schools and East Mission
Church.
On August 2, 1916
he was united in marriage to Mabel Cavner near
Conway, Iowa. They lived three years in North Dakota and then returned to
Taylor County to live on the farm
He was a member
of the Odd Fellow Lodge.
He was preceded
in death by his parents, one sister, and one half-brother.

Funeral services
for John Whitten, 63, of Bedford, will be held this Thursday, Sept. 28, at 2:00
p.m. The services will be held at Shum-Novinger Funeral Home with Carl Cummings
Mr. Whitten was
found dead at his farm southeast of Bedford on Monday. He had been working in
the hog lot, and he was found by his wife when she saw a tractor go through
a fence
unattended. The cause of death was to be determined at an autopsy in Des
Moines.
Mr. Whitten was
a well-known Taylor County farmer. He had served as president of the Taylor
County Farm Bureau last year.

Funeral services
for Mrs. Dwight (Irma) Wilcox, 72, were held at the Lenox Christian Church
Sunday, Nov. 5 at 2 p.m., with the pastor, Jack Cutbirth,
officiating. After a
lengthy illness
she died November 3, 1978 in Rosary Hospital, Corning.
Irma V. Hegwood was born October 30, 1906, on a farm southeast of
Lenox. She was the daughter of Alla and Josephine
Gordon Hegwood. Irma was united in marriage
at Kansas City,
Missouri, to Dwight Wilcox on June 16, 1927.
Her life was
devoted to her friends and family and was always there when she was needed.
Her lifelong
work was enriching the lives of others through her piano, organ and church
work.
She was preceded
in death by her husband Dwight, her parents, a sister-in-law, Mae, and two
brothers-in-law, Harry Butler and Lee Wilcox.
Irma leaves to
cherish her memory one sister, Erla, and husband
Jesse Barker of Lenox; two brothers, Lester and wife, Helen, of Kansas City,
Kansas and Leland and wife,
Dorothy, of
Lenox; a sister-in-law Nadine Wilcox of Ceresco, Nebr;
five nieces; three nephews; a host of grand and great grand nieces and nephews.
She also leaves a world of friends.

Mr. and Mrs. Wm.
D. Wray of Ft. Collins. Colo, visited her mother,
Mrs. Olive E. Hughes at the Lenox Care Center Tuesday, Oct. 31. They were on
their return trip home
from attending
funeral services, for his father Guy Wray, Sr. in Cedar Falls. Guy and his family
were residents of Lenox in the early 1940's and moved to Cedar Falls in 1946.
Mr. Wray died
October 27 at the age of 81. Funeral services were held October 30 at the First
Baptist Church in Cedar Falls.
Survivors are
his wife Lela, with whom he celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last
December 25. They also have 7 sons, 2 daughters and their spouses, 24
grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
