Beadel, Earle -

Earl Beadel, 79, died Tuesday at an Iowa City hospital where he had been for some time. The body is at Benders Funeral Home. No plans have been made

for the services.

Mr Beadel leaves three daughters, Mrs Olen Byers, Council Bluffs; Mrs Mearle Elliott, Lenox; and Mrs Curley Williamson, Lake View, Ark.; 5

grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Beadel, Earle -

Earle Beadel, son of Peter and Ollie Beadel, was born May 22, 1884 and passed from this earth July 2, 1963.

He was united in marriage to Vesta Ellen Gold in 1910. They were parents of three daughters, two of which are twins, Mearle Elliott of Lenox and

Pearle Byers of Council Bluffs; also Marjorie Williamson of Hot Springs, Ark. He leaves five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Earle has been a resident of Lenox all his life and formerly had a business in Lenox.

The past thirty years he maintained his shop in Corning.

He was a member of the Methodist Church. He has left many near and dear friends.

Services were Friday July 5 at the Bender Funeral home, the Rev. A. J. Clements officiating, with burial in the Lenox cemetery.

Buckley, Helen -

Mrs Helen (Giles) Buckley of Boise, Ida., died there recently. Her body was to be crematedand the ashes placed in the Giles lot in the Lenox cemetery.

She lived here before she was married and worked as a trimmer in Carey's Millinery store.

Her husband has been dead for several years. Friends here think she has one daughter surviving.

Davis, Pearl Bowman -

Mrs Pearl Davis, 82, died early Monday morning at the Greater Community hospital, Creston. She had been in the Lenox Nursing Home for some

time but was taken to the hospital a few days ago after she suffered a broken hip.

Funeral services are being held Wednesday afternoon at the United Presbyterian church, the Rev James Eddy officiating. Burial will be in the Lenox

cemetery.

The daughter of Martha and James Bowman, Mrs Davis was born in Guttenburg, Iowa, Jan 31, 1881. She was married to Lloyd Davis in. 1901. Two

children survive: Paul A. Davis of Lenox and Margaret Nelson of Clearwater, Fla.  Mr. Davis died several years ago.

The deceased was a member of the Lenox United Presbyterian church and of the Lenox Fortnightly Club.

Heaton, Eva Patterson Bush-

Mrs. Eva Heaton, 84, died at the rest home Monday morning.  She had lived in the Stringtown community and later here in town. The funeral is to be Wednesday

afternoon at the Methodist Church, the Rev. A. J. Clements officiating, with burial at Stringtowm.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. LeRoy McCafferty, Orient; Mrs. Ora Tucker, Conway; three sons, Harold Bush of Berkley, Cal., Howard Bush

of Boulder, Colo., and Lowell of Lenox; a step son, Ivan Heaton of Brooks; 12 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Belle Bird of Little

York, Ill.

Heaton, Eva Patterson Bush -

Eva Reed, daughter of Margaret (Campbell) and William Patterson, was born in Grant Twp. Adams County, Iowa on November 18, 1878. When 9

years old, she moved with her family to Henderson Co., Illinois.  Later her family moved to Monmouth, Ill., in Warren County, where on Dec. 19, 1902,

she was married to Wm. Weston Bush, of Kent, la. They established their home two miles east of the Stringtown Church, where they lived until Mr Bush

died on Sept. 30, 1923, except three years spent in California.

Five children blessed this union. They survive with their husbands and wives; Edith Lillian, wife of Roy McCafferty of Orient, la., Bernice Evelyn,

wife of Ora Tucker, of Conway, Howard William and wife Mary of Boulder, Colo., Harold Gilbert and wife Amy of Berkeley, Calif., Albert Lowell and wife

Ruby of Lenox, one step-son, Ivan Heaton and wife Wilma, whom she dearly loved. She leaves twelve grand children, ten great grand children, one

sister, Mrs Belle Bird, of Monmouth, Ill., and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She joined the Methodist Church when ten years of age, and remained a member of the Methodist Church, except the years when she was a member

of the Stringtown Church, of which she was a Charter Member.

On Sept. 11, 1927, she was united in marriage to Frank J. Heaton, of Brooks, la. They resided in Brooks until he passed away on Dec. 9, 1938.

In Dec., 1962, she entered the Colonial Nursing Home, in Lenox, where she resided until her death on June 3, 1963.

Funeral services were Wednesday June 5, at the Methodist Church with burial at Stringtown.

Honald, Joseph -

Two uncles of the Stapleton family died within a few hours of each other last week end. Mr and Mrs John Schmitt of Red Bluffs, Cal., were here visiting

at the homes of Walter Stapleton, Martha Sprague and Bernice Quinn during Memorial Day week end. They went on to visit Mr and Mrs Elmer Miller

in Reynolds, Ill., and Mr Schmitt died there Saturday, June 8.

His body was returned to California for burial. Besides his wife, he leaves 2 daughters, Nadine and Vivian, 2 brothers Joe and Bill of Des Moines and

3 sisters.

Friday evening a brother-in-law Joseph Honald of Peoria, Ill., died. His widow is the former Phena Schmitt and they, too had visited here occasionally.

Jones, John R. -

John R ,Jones, 62, of Rt 3, Couer d'Alene, Idaho, died suddenly at his home after suffering a heart attack. The funeral was April 8 at Couer d' Alene

with interment in the military cemetery in Portland, Ore.

Mr Jones will be remembered by many in this area. The son of Mr and Mrs C S Jories, he was born in 1900 near Sharpsburg, graduated from the Bedford

high school in 1917, and left for Idaho. There he married May Smith and after farming several years, moved to the state of Washington. Before his

retirement, he was with the US Bureau of Reclamation.

At the time of his death, he owned and operated a ranch near Couer d' Alene. He was a World War I veteran and a member of the Presbyterian church.

Survivors include his widow, May, four children and 14 grandchildren; also 3 sisters, Mrs Dessie Lindau of 417 1st Ave N, Great Falls, Mont., who

sent the notice of his death; Mrs Fred Russell, St Louis, Mo., and Mrs LaVerne Bowersox, of Fayette, la.

Key, George Frank -

Frank Key, 69, retired farmer, died at the Creston hospital Thursday night. His wife died 2 months ago on March 29.

Survivors are 2 daughters, Mrs Homer Miller, Lenox, Mrs Allen Troxell, Lincoln, Nebr., 3 sons, Reldon Key, Lenox, Kenneth Key, Red Oak, Melvin Key,

Atlantic; 16 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 2 brothers, Elmer and Herman Key of Wichita, Kansas.

Services were Sunday at the Bender Funeral Home with Rev. David Shaeffer officiating.

Burial was in the Lenox cemetery.

Key, George Frank -

George Frank Key, son of Mr and Mrs Lewis Key, was born April 28, 1894; at Lenox, and died July 11 at the age of 99 years, 2 months and 13 days.

On March 31, 1914. he was united in marriage to Lillian Melville Hyatt. To this union were born 5 children.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a sister, Elsie Woods.

He is survived by five children, Mrs Homer Miller, Lenox, Kenneth Key, Red Oak, Melvin Key, Atlantic, Mrs Allen Trexler, Lincoln, Nebr., and Reldon

Key, Lenox; 16 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and two brothers.

At an early age he united with the Blue Grove Christian Church and remained a faithful Christian.

He was a kindly, neighborly man, who enjoyed visiting with his friends and was always ready to lend a helping hand in time of need.

His family testifies to a sacrificial father whose first thought was for his wife, his children, and grandchildren and great grandchildren and family.

Services were Sunday, July 14 from Bender Funeral Home with burial at the Lenox cemetery. Music at the funeral was by Rolland Buxton and Mrs R. E.

Bender. Pall bearers were Melvin Davis, Herman Key, Allen Trexler, Homer Miller, Clyde Belding and George Gray.

Lindau, Dessie Jones -

Dessie Jones Lindau died May 30 in Great Falls, Mont. The daughter of Kate R. and Tip Jones, she was a former resident of this area and served as

Taylor County Superintendent of Schools before her marriage.

Her husband is deceased. Two daughters survive: Margaret Eddie of Ft. Shaw, Mont., and Jean Skew of Lampoc, Cal. The Rutledges at Sharpsburg

are cousins. The news was received by Mrs. Mattie Reed.

McManus, Michael L -

Michael L. McManus, 83, retired farmer, died at the Lenox Rest Home Friday about noon.

Survivors are one son, J. L. McManus of Creston; two daughters: Mrs Donald Henrich of Osceola, Mrs Dale Yount of Greenfield; ten grandchildren

and one sister, Mrs Lou Vanderpluym of Diagonal. His wife preceded him in death.

Services were Monday at St. Patrick's Church in Lenox. Burial was in St. Patrick's cemetery.

Morey, Sarah Catherine Walter-

Mrs Sarah Morey, 77, of New Virginia died at the University hospital, Iowa City, Sunday. She formerly lived in this vicinity.

The funeral was Tuesday at Clearfield with burial in the Lenox cemetery.

Mrs Morey was a sister of John Walter of Lenox. She leaves a son and several stepchildren.

Morey, Sarah Cathern Walter Yaryan -

Sarah Cathern Walter, the daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth Walter, was born at Elkton, Mo., on Sept. 7, 1884, and passed away at the University Hospital

at Iowa City, Iowa, on May 12, 1963 at the age of 78 years, 8 months and 5 days.

She was united in marriage to W. M. (Bill) Yaryan, on Dec. 23, 1906. To this union one son was born, Dale Yaryan of Des Moines, la. In 1925 her husband

passed away. A few years later, she was married to R. H. (Russ) Morey, who preceded her in death on March 20, 1951, while they were living in New Virginia,

la., where she has since resided.

She is survived by her son Dale Yaryan and his wife Eleanor of Des Moines; three brothers, W. W. Walter of Hermitage, Mo., John F. Walter of Lenox, and

Ben H. Walter, Bolivar, Mo., and a number of nieces and nephews; three stepsons, and two stepdaughters living near Clearfield, Diagonal and Sharpsburg,

where she had formerly lived, along with a multitude of friends and neighbors.

She made her peace with her Lord early in life, and joined the church of her choice and was a good neighbor to all who knew her, and no doubt will be greatly

missed.

Moyle, Budd S -

A clipping has been sent to us telling of the death of Budd S. Moyle, 78, of Grinnell on June 3. The funeral was there June 6.

Mr Moyle was born near Washington and graduated from the Lenox high school in 1902. He earned a degree from Tarkio College, Tarkio, Mo.,

and a master's degree from the University of Missouri.

He was superintendent of schools at Maquoketa from 1918 to 1934, then was a salesman, served in the legislature from Jackson County, and became

public relations director of the Iowa State Education association.

He is survived by his second wife, two daughters and three grandchildren.

He was a brother-in-law of Mrs Mary Moyle.

Harold Notz, 61, died at his farm home northeast of town at 11:30 Tuesday night. The body is at Benders Funeral Home. Definite plans have not

been made for services.

Survivors include his widow, Edith; a, son Richard, two sisters, Anna Arneal and Bertha Walter; also a brother Paul.

Notz, Harold John -

Harold John, eldest child of John and Carrie Notz, was born near Lenox, Ia., July 14, 1902, and departed this life at his home north of Lenox July 2,

1963 at the age of 60 years, 11 months and 12 days, following one year's illness.

On Jan, 10, 1937 he was united in marriage to Edith Barrans of Lenox.  They moved to a farm north of Lenox where he had been a successful farmer until the

time of his death. To this union was born one son, Richard, still at home.

He united with the First Presbyterian church of Lenox at an early age, later to the United Presbyterian church of Lenox where he remained a faithful

member. He was a member of the Board of Trustees.

He was preceded to death by birth parents, and one sister, Pauline.

Surviving are his wife Edith and son Richard and two sisters Mrs Anna Arneal, Mrs Bertha Walter and one brother, Paul, all of Lenox; also three

brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law, three nieces, Marjorie Bray, Genevieve Van Houweling, Eileen Walter, and two nephews, Garland Walter and Vernon Walter.

To his family and friends he leaves the memory of a life filled with kindness, patience and love.

Powell, Edwin Dale -

Edwin Dale Powell, 9, son of Mr and Mrs Dale Powell of Stanton, was injured fatally in a fall from a tree Sunday. The spleen was ruptured and he died

shortly after being taken to the hospital.

He was a nephew of Mrs George Austin and related to Mrs Clifford Roudybush.

The funeral is Thursday at 2 p. m. at Diagonal, Besides his parents, he is survived by 3 brothers.

Reed, Faith Jane Allbaugh -

Mrs Faith Reed, 84, long time resident of Lenox, died Tuesday morning at the Creston hospital.

She was a member of the Methodist church in Lenox, Rebekah Lodge and Harmony Reading Circle.

Services will be Friday at 2 p. m. at the Methodist church in Lenox. The body is at the Bender Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Lenox cemetery.

Survivors: Two daughters, Mrs Opal Miller, Kent, Mrs Gladys Keith of Platteville Colo.; 4 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter.

Her husband, Roy Reed, died 38 years ago.

Reed, Faith Jane Allbaugh -

Faith Jane Reed, daughter of Mary Virginia and Morris B. Allbaugh, was born March 2, 1879 near Lenox. She passed away May 14, 1963 at Greater

Community Hospital, at the age of 84 years, 2 months and 12 days.

She was married February 16, 1898 to Roy Reed who died November 18, 1925. To this union were born 2 daughters, Gladys Reed Keith, of Platteville,

Colo., and Opal Reed Miller of Kent.

She united with the Prairie Star Presbyterian Church at an early age; later transferring to the Methodist Church in Lenox in which she continued to work

as long as her health permitted.  She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and the Harmony Reading Circle.

Faith was one of the pioneer residents of Taylor County where she spent her early girlhood.  Her father helped break the prairie sod along with the

other first settlers.

Besides her husband Roy, she was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters; infant Laura and Grace Godden of Cromwell; one brother Walter

and two half brothers William S. and Morris.

She leaves to mourn the two daughters Opal and Gladys, four grandchildren, Marilyn Willey and Roland Miller of Kent, Dale Keith of Platteville,

Colo., Mr and Mrs Daryl Keith of La Cresanto, Calif., and a great granddaughter, Marlene Willey; two half sisters, Mrs Mable Healey, of Derby, Kan.,

and Mrs Mary Weisshaar, of Creston; a half brother Lewis Allbaugh of Denver, Colo., a sister-in-law, Mrs Bertha Kent of Council Bluffs; also a number

of nieces and nephews and many friends.

Faith was a loving friend and neighbor, gracious and kind to all. Her last years were spent in failing health which was lightened by the tender care of

her daughter Opal and family.

Funeral services were Friday, May 17, at the Lenox Methodist church, the Rev. Harold Butts officiating. Burial was in the Lenox cemetery.

Riley, Olive May Bovaird -

Olive May Bovaird, daughter of Henry D. and Jessie E. Bovaird, was born near Gray, Iowa, in Audubon County, on October 25, 1887, and passed away

after a lingering illness, on July 2, 1963, at her home near Stringtown, aged 75 years, 8 months and 7 days.

She was 14 years of age when she, with her parents and brother and sister, came to Adams County, and located on a farm near Mercer Center.

As a young girl she united with the Methodist Church of Mercer Center, and remained a loyal member until after her marriage, when she transferred

her membership to the Stringtown Community Church.

Olive was united in marriage with Robert E. Riley on April 12, 1910, at the home of her parents.

The first two years of their married life was spent on a farm in the Mercer Center vicinity. The next four years were spent near San Juan, Texas.

After the return to la., their home has been located the same as it is today near Stringtown. To this union were born two children, Robert Elvin of Lenox,

Iowa, and Leona May Stanley of Longmont, Colorado.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father and sister, Elsie. She leaves to mourn her passing her loving husband, her two children, her

daughter-in-law, Eula Mae, her son-in-law, Carl Stanley, five grandsons, three granddaughters, and one great grandson; one brother, Claude Bovaird of

Mercer Center; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Mr and Mrs Riley were privileged to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary in April, 1960.

Hers was a quiet and reserved personality, with kind thoughts and words for everyone. Her main interests in life centered around the joys of her home

and family.

God wanted one more angel,

among his shining band,

And so he bent with loving

smile, and clasped our mother's

hand,

Her thoughts were all so full

of us, she never could forget,

And so we think that where

she is, she watches o'er us yet,

She's waiting till we come to her,

anxious if we are late,

Watching from Heaven's window, and leaning from

Heaven's gate."

Funeral services were held at 2:00 Friday afternoon, July 5, 1963, at the Stringtown Community Church, conducted by Rev. Earl Moneymaker, assisted

by Rev. Howard Wells. Interment was made in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Corning. Beautiful music for the services was furnished by Roland Buxton,

accompanied by Mrs Norma Paymal.

Pall bearers were nephews, Eugene Swartz, Carl Bovaird, Melvin Riley, John Riley, and Dale Purviance.

Shaffer, Alta Almeda Nash -

Alta Almeda Schaffer, daughter of Alvin and Lenora Nash, was born May 29, 1891, and departed this life July 6, 1963, at the age of 72 years, one month

and eight days.

On Nov. 4, 1908, she was united in marriage to William Schaffer. To this union eight children were born: Orville, Leo, LaVerne of Corning; Deryl and

Kenneth of Lenox; Harry of California; Velda Hardisty and Olmeda Eggleston of Corning.

She was united with the Christian Church in Prescott early in life.

She spent her entire life in Adams County. She was most happy when her children and grandchildren were around her.

Funeral services, were held Tuesday, July 9 at 2:30 p. m. from the Roland Funeral Home in Corning with Rev. Brown Garlock officiating. Music was

by Mrs Brown Garlock and Mrs Dick Cook. Pallbearers were Harry Schaffer, Walter Nelson, Dow Keever, Harry Higgins, Chester Nelson, Wesley Miller.

Interment was in Walnut Grove cemetery.

Stanley, Thomas J -

Staff Sgt. Thomas J. Stanley, III, 27, died Tuesday, June 11,  1963, at his home at 5335 W. 4th Ave,, Lakewood, Colo.

Military services were Friday at 10 a. m., at the Chapel of the Angels in Capitol Mortuary, 7177 w. Coif ax Ave., in Denver, Colo. 30 Marines had charge of the services; six served as pall bearers. The Marines also served as color guard and as the firing squad. Officiating was Rev. Robert Breummer of Bethel Temple. Interment was in Fort Logan National Cemetery.

Born in Denver, Colo., April 25, 1936, Tom Stanley was educated in Lenox, Iowa, and was graduated from high school in Kansas City, Mo., where he had made

his home with his uncle, K J Oiler.

On November 9, 1957, he married Esther Kanagy at Afton, Iowa. He served in the Marine Corps from 1953 to 1961 and saw action in Korea and Japan. He was

honored with two citations, one of them while in a tower landing troops in Japan, when he directed the landing of a plane in distress with 198 men aboard. It

was the largest plane ever to land in Japan up to that time. He received two medals with his citations. He served in the 3rd Batallion and the 203rd Platoon

of the U. S. Marine Corps.

He suffered a heart condition and had received  a medical discharge from the service.  He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and Veterans

of Foreign Wars. He was employed as a construction worker.

He lived at the home of his mother, Mrs Roy Key, and his step-father, Roy Key, from the age of 9 until he went to Kansas City.

Survivors: his wife, Esther; his 4 children, Kenneth, Faith, Thomas and Katherine, all of Lakewood; his mother, Mrs Dorothy Key, step-father, Roy Key

of Lenox; a sister, Mrs Charles (Deloris) Miller, Des Moines, Iowa; his grandfather, John Oiler, of Creston; his father, Thomas Stanley, II, of Fresno, Calif.

Teatsworth, Gail -

Gail Teatsworth, 5, daughter of Mr and Mrs Emmett Teatsworth of Olympia, Wash., drowned early Monday in a lake near her home. The family formerly

lived here and Emmett is a brother of Homer Teatsworth.

Survivors include the parents and a brother, David, 7.

The funeral and burial were at Olympia.
