Atkin, Viola -

Mrs Charles Atkin,, 64, of Clearfield, died Friday morning at the Creston hospital.

Survivors: Her husband Chas., 2 daughters Mrs Gerald Fuller (Beverly) and Mrs Morris Orman (Leota) both of Des Moines and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were Monday at the Bender Funeral home with Rev Francis Crown of the Creston Baptist church officiating. Burial was in the Lenox

cemetery.

Mrs. Atkin was born in Clearfield June 16, 1899 and lived in the Lenox and Clearfield communities.

She was married Oct. 1, 1919 at Bedford.

Calkins, Archie -

Archie Calkins, 80, a retired farmer died at his home Saturday night. He has been a resident of the Clearfield vicinity for many years. Funeral

services were Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Varner Crew Funeral home. Rev Herbert Phillips, pastor of the M E Church officiated.

Burial was at Conway Cemetery. He is survived by his widow, Nettie, 3 sons, Leland of Des Moines, Edward of Minneapolis, Minn., and Henry of

Clearfield; 2 daughters, Mrs Marjorie Zamrzla of Ft. Meyers, Fla., and Mrs Thelma Cook of Iowa City and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Dunbar, Bob -

Bob Dunbar of Porterville, Calif., died Friday Nov. 29. His funeral was to be Tuesday afternoon.

He leaves his widow and a son Robert. Relatives left here are three cousins, Eula Beach, Harley Killion and Metta Porter.

Bob was formerly a barber here and also on the town police force.

Theodore Huber of San Francisco called Harley Killion Sunday night to inform him of the death and the funeral date. The widow also sent a telegram to

Mrs Beach.

Eberle, Karl W -

Karl Eberle, 52, prominent farmer, died Thursday afternoon at his home just west of town,

Services were Sunday at the United Presbyterian church with Rev James Eddy officiating. Burial was in the Lenox cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Ethel, twin brother, Kenneth and sister Georgia Eberle of Lenox, 3 other sisters, Mrs Leah Mclntyre of Victorville, Calif.,

Mrs Wilma Gosch, Wall Lake, la., and Regina Weber of Clarinda.

Eberle, Karl W -

Karl W. Eberle, son of Chris and Kathryn Wurster Eberle, was born Dec. 9, 1910, in Lenox and passed away Nov. 7, 1963 at the age of 52 years. 10 months

and 29 days following a long illness.

He was born on a farm just west of Lenox where he spent all his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Frank.

He is survived by his wife Ethel, a twin brother Kenneth and a sister Georgia of Lenox; three other sisters, Mrs Leah McIntyre of Victorville, Calif.,

Mrs Wilma Gosch of Wall Lake, and Mrs Regina Weber of Clarinda and a host of friends and relation.

Even after such a long illness Karl tried to enjoy life and take an interest in the farm work, in which he tried to participate up to the day of his

death.

Funeral services were Sunday Nov. 10 at the United. Presbyterian Church, the Rev. James Eddy officiating. Burial was in the Lenox cemetery.

Hayes, Michael -

Michael Hayes, 13 year old son of Mr and Mrs Robert Hayes of Perry, died at his home there Thursday, Nov. 14. He was the grandson of Mr and Mrs Ray

Hayes.

Michael had suffered a shoulder and collar bone injury a few days before and complications from this caused his death.

The funeral and burial were at Perry. Attending from here besides his grandparents, were Mr and Mrs Les Johnson, Mr and Mrs Harry Rogers, Mr and Mrs Herb Tully, Mr and Mrs Don Tully, Mr and Mrs Jim Lillie.

Survivors include a brother and sister in addition to the parents and grandparents.

Heller, Clifford -

Clifford Heller, 59, of Lenox, died Thursday at the home of his daughter, Miss Evelyn Heller, in Amarillo, Tex. He had been ill for nearly a year.

The body was returned to Lenox and funeral services were held at 2 p. m. Tuesday at the Bender Funeral Home with burial in the Gravity cemetery.

Nearly a life-long resident of Taylor County, he worked for the county before becoming ill.

He is survived by his wife, Faye; a son, Edward Heller of Cleveland and two daughters, Mrs Donna Leonard of Des Moines and Miss Heller, at whose home

he died. A brother also survives.

Obituary -

Clifford Eugene, the son of Mr and Mrs E. J. Heller, was born January 1, 1904 in New Market, Iowa. He died November 22, 1963 at the home of his

daughter Evelyn in Amarillo, Texas at the age of 59 years 10 months and 21 days

He married Faye Alice Pennebaker July 3, 1926 in Bedford, Iowa. To this union two daughters, Evelyn and LaDonna Mae and a son Edward were born.

Mr Heller lived most of his life in or in the vicinity of Gravity, except for brief periods of which the longest was 2 years when he worked in the bomber

plant in Kansas City.  They lived just recently in Lenox in order to take care of Mrs. Heller's father who died just two years ago.

For many years he worked in the Taylor County Maintenance Department until illness forced his retirement.

He was a member of the Lenox Methodist church and the Odd Fellows Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Ray, who died in infancy.

Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Faye Alice, his daughters, Evelyn Heller of 1218 W 11th Street, Amarillo, Texas, Mrs LaDonna

Mae Leonard and her husband Dean Leonard of Des Moines, Iowa and a son Edward Eugene and his wife, Jeanne Heller of Cleveland, Ohio, a brother, Carl of Clarinda Iowa, five grandchildren, many other relatives and a host of friends.

Horton, Clyde William -

Clyde William Horton, son of John and Carrie May Horton, was born in Nevinville, la., on Aug 7, 1889, and passed away at his home to Clearfield Oct. 28,

1963. Death came to him easily and peacefully.

He united with the Christian Church in Clearfield in 1907 and lived a life of service to family and friends.

Sept. 1, 1908, he was united in marriage to Mabel Moore To this union were born five children, Carlos (Bill), Carroll (Pete), Mrs. John Duey (Helen Lou) all of Clearfield, Mrs Raymond Trost (Isabel) Lenox, and Mary Mae, who died in infancy.

With the exception of one year in South Dakota, they lived on farms near Clearfield and Bedford, then for 20 years on a farm near Shannon City, after

that moving in to town to run a locker for one year. They retired and moved to Clearfield in 1957.

Left to mourn his passing are his devoted wife Mabel, the 4 children, two brothers, Guy and Floyd, one sister, Madge Reynard, 13 grandchildren, 17

great grandchildren.

Pa, as he was known, had many friends and was a kind and loving father.

Funeral services were Thursday afternoon from the Clearfield Christian Church, with Rev Harvey Ruegseggcr and Rev Herbert Phillips officiating.

Six grandsons were casket bearers, John, Robert, Vernon and Jerry Horton, Mike and Randy Trost. He was laid to rest in the Clearfield cemetery.

Jones, J Morgan -

Mrs. K. C. Wurster has received word of the death of her brother-in-law, J. Morgan Jones of Miami, Fla. Mr. Jones underwent brain surgery in a

Miami hospital on Thursday of last week and passed away on Friday evening.

Services and burial were in Waynesboro, Ga.

Mr. Jones was the husband of the former Bernice Sanders, a sister of Mrs. Wurster.

Kuhn, Harold L -

Harold L. Kuhn, 76, of Valentine, Nebr., died in a hospital there Nov. 19. Mr Kuhn was honorary chairman of the board of the First National Bank of

Valentine. He started with the bank as assistant cashier in 1910.

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs Henry Medlock of Valentine. Burial was at Lincoln.

Mr Kuhn was the older son of Supt. Kuhn who headed the Lenox school for several years between 1900 and 1908, according to Don Dey Ermand of Dalton,

Nebr., who sent the clipping concerning the death. He sent word at the suggestion of his sister, Mrs Vinnie Simpson of Pasadena, Calif., he wrote.

McHenry, Ireta Rae -

Miss Ireta McHcnry, 71, died Thursday morning at a nursing home in Creston after suffering a stroke on Oct 3.

Survivors 2 brothers, Wayne of Eugene, Ore., Floyd of Tulelawe, Calif., 1 sister, Mrs Stanley Austin. She made her home with Mr and Mrs Stanley Austin in Lenox.

Services were Saturday at Hickory Grove church 12 miles south of Mt Ayr with Rev L H Buck officiating.  Miss McHenry had lived in the Hickory Grove vicinity before moving to Lenox.      

Obituary

Ireta Rae McHenry, oldest daughter of George and Rosa Coughennower McHenry, was born May 26, 1892, in Denver, Mo., and passed away Nov 7,1963

at the age of 71 years, 5 months and 12 days following several strokes and a long illness.

Her life was spent in Ringgold county until the passing of her parents, and her remaining years with her sister Phoebe in Lenox.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, John.

Left to cherish her memory are two brothers, Floyd of Tule Lake, Cal., Wayne of Eugene Ore., her sister, Phoebe Austin of Lenox, several nephews and

nieces.

At an early age she joined the Assembly of God Church, in which she was a faithful member as long as her health permitted. Even with her many afflictions,

she was able to enjoy life and take an interest in several things, including her flower garden where she spent many hours. She was loved by all who knew her.

Nelson, Orville -

Orville Nelson, 85, of Clearfield, a life-long resident of Taylor county and a retired farmer, died about 8 p.m. Monday, Oct 7 at Greater Community

hospital in Creston.

Surviving are his wife, Olive; three sons, Lyle, Ivan, and Horace, all of Clearfield, eight grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

Newburn, Charles -

Charles Newburn, 82, of Clearfield, passed away early Monday at the Greater Community Hospital in Creston. Funeral services were held Wed. at

the Varner-Crew Funeral home Rev Harvey Ruesegger officiated.  Burial was in the Clearfield Cemetery. He is survived by his widow Laura, son Joe of

Clearfield and a daughter, Mrs Wildon Webb of Creston.

Nixon, Thomas H -

Word was received here by the Nixon families of the death of a brother, Thomas H. Nixon of Colome, S. Dakota, on Oct. 8 at the Lutheran hospital in

Sioux City, Iowa, where he had had surgery.

Thomas homesteaded on a farm near Colome in 1907. He married May Laird in 1917. To this union five children were born. His wife, May and son

Stanley preceded him in death.

The four living children, Lilah Shelton, Rose Lodge, Ore., Roland Nixon, East Hartford, Conn., Harvey Nixon, North Bend, Ore., and Mary Stevicks,

Dallas, S. Dakota, all attended the funeral, which was held at the Methodist Church, Colome, Oct 12. Burial was at Winner, S. Dakota.

Three sisters, Emma Nixon, Isabel Nixon, and Ruth Boltinghouse, and one brother, Wm B. Nixon, survive.

Mr. and Mrs. Wm B. Nixon, and Ruth Boltinghouse, Lenox, and Wm J. Nixon, Shannon City, attended the funeral.

Rupf, Charles H -

Charles Rupf, 87, bachelor and retired farmer, died Thursday evening at the Lenox Nursing Home.

Survivors are 2 sisters, Miss Zoe Rupf of Denver, Colo., Mrs Harry Cheese of Lenox and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Monday at 10 a. m. at St Patrick's church with burial here.

Rupf, Charles, H -

Charles H Rupf, son of Frank A. and Rose Kelly Rupf, was born on the farm south west of Lenox on Dec. 24, 1875 and passed away at the Thomas Rest

Home on Oct. 31 1963 at the age of 87 years, 10 months, and 7 days.

He had spent all but about 15 years of his life on this same farm until he retired about 10 years ago. He lived at the hotel, until he was taken sick about 3

months before his passing away.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, two sisters and one brother.

Surviving are two sisters, Zoe Rupf of Denver, Colo., and Mrs Florence Cheese of Lenox and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at St. Patricks Church on Nov. 4th. Father Domatus served the mass.

Smith, Dessie -

Mr and Mrs Fern Phillips received word Saturday morning that Fern's sister, Mrs Loyd Smith of near Siam had passed away. Mr and Mrs Phillips and

their daughter, Mrs Velda Duke of Osceola attended funeral services and burial at Bedford.

Underwood, Clifford Francis -

Clifford Francis Underwood, son of Charles and Mary Underwood, was born at Conway, Iowa on April 22, 1895, and died on December 9, 1S63 after a long

illness. He lived near Sharpsburg all of his life.

On Junk 14, 191[?] he was married tp Bessie [?] Sweigard.  To this union were born two children; Helen Catherine, who died in infancy, and Richard

James.

He served his community and church faithfully. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Sharpsburg and served as an Elder.

He is survived by his wife, his ninety year old mother, son, Richard, daughter-in-law, Theoma, and two grandchildren, Mary Faye and Patricia Ann.

Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church in Sharpsburg on Wednesday, December 11. Rev James E. Eddy was in charge of the services.

Burial was at the Conway cemetery.

Those who came from a distance to attend the funeral of Mr Underwood were Mr and Mrs Rex Jones and Mrs Norma Core of Almyra, Ark., Mr and Mrs

James Oliver of Stuttgart, Ark., Mr and Mrs James McCrea of Pueblo, Colorado.

Young, Ruth Elizabeth Spring -

Mrs Kenneth Young, 53, died at her home here Monday evening. She had been in ill health for some time.

Services were held Wednesday afternoon at Bender's Funeral home with the Rev David Shaeffer of the Christian church officiating. Burial will be in the

Lenox cemetery.

Mrs Young lived in this community all her life.

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth, a daughter, Rita Mae of the home and 3 brothers, Harry Spring of Council Bluffs, Ernest of Corning, and Carl

Spring of Lenox.

Young, Ruth Elizabeth Spring -

Ruth Elizabeth Spring, daughter of John and Anna Minnie Spring, was born August 21, 1910 near Corning, Iowa and passed away at her home in

Lenox, November 11, 1963 at the age of 53 years, 2 months, and 21 days.

She united with the Methodist Church at an early age.

She was united in marriage to Kenneth Young September 21, 1947 and to this union was born one daughter, Rita Mae.

She was a member of Timely Rebekah Lodge of Lenox and was a very faithful member and was always ready to do her part.

She leaves to mourn her death, her husband Kenneth, daughter Rita Mae, three brothers, Earnest of Corning, Harry of Council Bluffs, and

Carl of Lenox; three sisters-in-law, Dorothy of Corning, Evelyn of Council Bluffs, and Ethel of Lenox; several nieces and nephews, one grand nephew

and nieces, and a host of friends.

She was always a good neighbor and friend to all who knew her, and always ready to help when needed.  She never complained about her illness and

nobody knew how much she suffered, which was a great deal. She was very nice to take care of and appreciated everything that was done for her.

Funeral services were Wednesday Nov. 13 at Benders, the Rev. David Schaeffer officiating. Burial was in the Lenox cemetery.
