Archibald, Edna Grace Lown -

Edna Archibald, long-time Lenox resident, died Thursday, at the Clearfield nursing borne.

Edna Grace Archibald, daughter of Lewis and Carrie Lown, was born in Peoria County, Ill., Aug. 4, 1882, and departed this life August 27th, 1970 at the age of 88 years. When a small child she came with her parents to Taylor Co., Iowa, where she spent her entire life time.

She was united in marriage to Bert Archibald February 3, 1903. To this union were born two sons and a daughter.

Early in life she united with the Christian Church and remained a faithful and devoted member.

She was preceded in death by her husband and one son, Ralph.

She is survived by her daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Orval Plants, her son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Archibald, 3 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, a sister, Ruth Lown, and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted from the Lenox Christian Church Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m., with Rev. Don Briley officiating.

Music was furnished by Mildred Walter and Ruth Boltinghouse.

Bearers were John Reed, O. C. Walter, Duane Boyer, Lee Crowell, Carl Spring and Bert Shawler.

Burial was in Fairview cemetery.

Benson, Geneva Smith -

Mrs. Lonnie Benson of North Hollywood, California, passed away Aug. 26th. She was formerly Geneva Smith, daughter of Mrs. Nellie Smith and the late

Harry Smith. She graduated from the Lenox High school with the class of 1929.

Mrs. Benson had been in failing health for the past several years.

Funeral services were held Friday morning at nine o'clock in North Hollywood.

She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, daughter Connie, son-in-law, two grandsons and mother. A brother, Francis preceded her in death several

years ago.

She was a niece of Mrs. Delia Boltinghouse and Mrs. Frank Cunningham of Lenox.

Boltinghouse, Eva Leonard -

Eva Boltinghouse, 62, a longtime resident of this vicinity, died Monday at the nursing home in Corning.

Mrs Boltinghouse had lived on a farm west of Lenox for many years, entering the nursing home several years ago.

Survivors are three sons, Kenneth of Lenox, Travis of Sharpsburg and Lyle of Baltimore, Md., and six grandchildren.

Her husband, Alonzo, died about twenty years ago.

Funeral services were conducted from the Lenox Christian Church Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m., with the pastor, Rev. Donald Briley officiating.

Bearers were Ernest Nook, Clyde Belding, Ronald Wurster, Lloyd Hamblin, Melvin Williams, and Homer O'Connell.

Music was furnished by Helen Brokaw .and Billie Jean Barker with Irma Wilcox, accompanist.

Burial was in the Lenox cemetery.

Boltinghouse, Eva Leonard -

Eva Boltinghouse, daughter of William and Alice Leonard was born Feb. 1, 1888, in Taylor County, Iowa, and passed away at the Krauth Nursing Home in Corning, Iowa, August 24, 1970, at the age of 82 years, 5 months and 23 days. She was one of a family of seven children.

She was preceded in death by a younger sister, Lottie Opal, her father and mother, and a brother, Henry Leonard of Sheridan, Wyoming.

She was united in marriage March 4, 1908 to Lon Boltinghouse. To this union three sons were born, Lyle, Kenneth and Travis. They lived on a farm west of Lenox. She was a member of the Blue Grove Christian Church and the Sunshine Sisters Club.

Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Sturm of Clearfield and Mrs. Elizabeth Orr of Colorado Springs, Colo., two brothers, Lloyd Leonard of Corning,

Iowa and Lee Leonard of Carthage, Ill. She is also survived by her three sons, Lyle of Baltimore, Md., Kenneth of Lenox and Travis of Sharpsburg, Ia.,

three daughters-in-law, six grandchildren, James, Larry, Reldon, Adena, Kyle and Deborah, eight great-grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews

and other relatives, neighbors and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Christian Church in Lenox, Iowa, August 26, conducted by Rev. Donald Briley. Burial was in the Lenox cemetery.

Brumbough, Florence Stanger -

Florence E. Stanger Brumbaugh died Saturday, Oct. 24th at 2:10 a.m. in the Mason General hospital in Shelton, Washington at the age of 72 years.

She was a former Lenox resident, and was born here April 4, 1898.

Mrs. Brumbaugh had resided in Shelton for 47 years and was a 1924 graduate of the Greater Community Hospital Nursing School in Creston, Iowa, and began

her employment at the Shelton General Hospital in 1925. She was a member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church and the Southside Friendship club.

She is survived by her husband, Royal W. Brumbaugh of Shelton, a son, L. Allan Brumbaugh of Linder, a daughter, Mrs. Elinor L. Lindsey, Bothell, three-grandchildren, one great grandchild, a brother, Frank Stanger of Lenox, and two sisters, Mrs. Alma Fleming of Lenox, and Mrs. Amelia Clapper of Shelton.

The Rev. Edwin Zschoche officiated at a service held at 1 p.m., Oct. 28th in Mt. Olive Lutheran Church. Burial was in Shelton Memorial Park.

Bruner, Anna Elizabeth Leigh -

Anna Elizabeth. Leigh, daughter of Charles E. and Elizabeth Stephenson Leigh, was born at La Prairie Center, Illinois, Aug. 24, 1875, and passed away quietly

at the Clearview Home in Clearfield, Iowa, at the age of 95 years, 1 month and 20 days.

She was the youngest of eleven children, all of whom preceded her in death. She taught several school terms in rural schools of Marshall County, Ill. She moved

with her family to Iowa in 1900 and continued teaching in rural schools in Taylor County.

On February 17, 1909, she was united in marriage to William F. Bruner. They resided on the farm southwest of Clearfield until the death of her husband

in December, 1940. They attended the Methodist Church in Clearfield as long as their health permitted.

She, with her sister, Mrs. Alma Murphy, moved to Clearfield. Aunt Anna cared for her sister, Alma, as long as her health permitted.

In 1963, she entered Clearview Nursing Home where she resided until her death. Aunt Anna was very happy in the Clearview Home and enjoyed the many friends who

called.

She is survived by nieces and nephews and a host of friends by whom she will be greatly missed—especially her friends in the home in whom she was always interested.

Hagee, Gary -

Friends here received word of the death of Gary Hagee, 33, of St. Joseph, Mo., in a hospital there on Monday, Aug. 17th. The funeral was Aug. 19th at the

King Hill Christian Church in St. Joseph.

He leaves his wife and four children. Mr. Hagee was the son of the late Charles Hagee Sr., a former minister of the Lenox Christian Church, and a nephew

of E. F. Hagee; also a former minister here.

A few months ago it was discovered he had in-operable cancer. It was arrested by treatment for a time but became worse recently.

A memorial fund is being established in his name for the American Cancer Society. Any contribution may be sent to the family home: Mrs. Gary Hagee,

Isman, Daniel Ray -

Daniel Ray Isman, 25, son of George Isman, Jr., of rural Lenox, drowned along with two other companions while sailing on Lake Tahoe in California Sunday afternoon. The body of one of his companions had been recovered, but divers had been unsuccessful in recovering the other two bodies at a late hour Wednesday.

Mr. Isman worked for Proctor and Gamble on the west coast and was not married.

He is a graduate of Corning high school and received a degree in Mechanical Engineering from college in Lincoln, Nebr.

Mr. and Mrs. Isman left from Omaha by plane Wednesday night to go to California.

Kitchell, Robert M -

Graveside services for Robert M. Kitchell of Council Bluffs, Iowa, were held on Monday, September 29th, at the Lenox cemetery.

Mr. Kitchell is the husband of Glenna Boone, a former resident of this community.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two children, Bob of San Diego, Calif., and Linda of Council Bluffs. Several grandchildren also survive.

McMahill, Nella May -

Nella May McMahill, 71, of Independence, Mo., died Tuesday, Aug. 18th at the Lakeside hospital in Kansas City, Mo.

She was the mother of Verle Knapp of Sharpsburg.

Funeral services were held Friday, August 21st at 2 p m from the Presbyterian Church in Sharpsburg, Iowa, with Rev. Wallace Nelson and Kirk Dopp

officiating.

Burial was in the Clearfield cemetery at Clearfield, Iowa.

Orr, Vada -

Mrs. Bird Drain and Mrs. Flo Grimm received word Sunday of the death of their sister, Mrs. Vada Orr, 92, of Cedar, Minnesota.

Other survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Alta Chamberlain of Pasadena, Calif., and Mrs. Hazel Neeley of Glendale, Calif. Two brothers, Ernest Lovitt of Portland, Oregon and Clyde Lovitt of Centralia, Kansas also survive.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at three o'clock with burial at Anoka, Minnesota.

Shaffer, Myrtle S Ethington -

Mrs. Myrtle S. Shaffer, 80, a longtime resident of Clearfield, died at the Lenox Nursing Home Sunday morning. She had been a resident there but a

short time.

Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Fern Spurrier of Clearfield, Mrs. Louise French of Bedford, Mrs. Opal McMichael of Grimes and Mrs. Myrle Henderson of Lenox. Four sons also survive, Clyde, Donovan, Delbert and Gilbert, all of Boulder, Colorado. Twenty two grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren mourn her loss.

She also leaves two brothers, Clarence Ethington of Diagonal and Harold Ethington of Ames, and a sister, Mrs. Lena Wood of Omaha, Nebr.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Clearfield with Rev. Edward Tschetter officiating.

Burial was in the Clearfield cemetery.

Struwe, Carrie M Eckels -

Carrie Struwe, 85, died Thursday, November 5th at the Greater Community hospital in Creston.

Mrs. Struwe, daughter of George Eckels and Jennie Hunger, was born March 16, 1885 in Adams County, Iowa. She spent her entire life in the Lenox community area, the last sixteen years being spent with her two daughters. She died at the age of 85 years, 7 months and 19 days.

On November 25, 1903, she was united in marriage with Samuel Struwe at the home of her parents by Rev. A. L. Davidson, pastor of the Lenox  United Presbyterian Church. To this union were born 2 daughters, Iva Pugh and Martha Roudybush.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sister Bertha Tulley, a brother, Clarence, a most loved son-in-law, Clifford Roudybush, and an infant

grandson, Dean Edwin Pugh.

She is survived by her two daughters, Iva and Martha, her son-in-law, Homer Pugh, four grandchildren and their husbands, namely Kathlyn and Robert Brown of Clearfield, Maralyn and Donald Barker of Lenox, Carolyn and Brice Johnson of Gravity and Marlene and Richard King of Charleston, So. Carolina. She is also survived

by 12 great grandchildren, who are Patty, who is Mrs. John Wilson, Gary, Deanna, Bill, Jim, Sherry and Ronnie Brown, Barbara, who is Mrs. Eric Ranch, Sandra and Steve Barker and Deborah and Brent Johnson.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon, November 7th at 2 p.m. from the United Methodist Church with Rev. Floyd Newbrough, pastor, officiating.

Music was furnished by Marilyn Beck and Billie Jean Barker with Norma Paymal accompanist.

Bearers were Lloyd Whipp, Fred Haynes, Delbert Weeda, Max Badgett, Kenneth Young and George Reynolds.

Burial was in Fairview Cemetery.

Symonds, Laura Eckels -

Mrs. Laura Symonds, 89, resident of Lenox, died Tuesday at the Lenox Nursing Home.

Survivors include 3 daughters, Mrs. Iola Steele of Knoxville, Mae Etyhel Case of Brighton, Colo., Sylvia Cairns of Long Beach, Calif., three sons, Raymond

of Murray, Ernest and Everett of Lenox.

Funeral services will be held Friday at the Salem Church of the Brethren with Rev. John Wagner officiating at 2 p.m.

Burial will be in the Salem cemetery.

Symonds, Laura Eckels -

Laura Symonds, daughter of Lafayette and Emma Semmons Eckles, was born on a farm in Adams County northwest of Lenox, November 20, 1880, and

passed away at the Lenox Nursing Home, Sept. 1, 1970, after a short illness, at the age of 89 years, 9 months and 19 days. She was united in marriage in

the parental home, to Thomas Symonds on December 28, 1898. To this union six children were born.

Surviving are her six children: Mae Case of Brighton, Colorado; Mrs. Iola Steele of Knoxville, Mrs. Sylvia Cairns of Long Beach, California; Raymond

of Murray, Ernest and Everett of Lenox, one sister, Mrs. Dorothy Conwell of Newark, N. Y., 21 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

She was proceeded in death by her husband in 1958, three brothers, Walter, William and Everett, two sisters, Mrs. Clyde (Myrtle) Herbst and Grace who

died in infancy.

Mrs. Symonds spent her entire life in the Kent and Lenox communities. She became a member of the Church of the Brethren in 1908, and was a

faithful member through the years, witnessing to her faith in the Lord to the end. She leaves many fond memories with all who knew her.

Funeral services were held Friday, September 4, 1970 at 2 p.m. in the Salem Church of the Brethren with Rev. John Wagner officiating. Music was

furnished by Martin and Darrell Bell, accompanied by Mrs. Ruth Hettinger.

Pall bearers were Max Badgett, Harry Higgins, Don Trost, Glendon Walter, Wray Walter and Lester West.

Burial was in the Salem cemetery.

Travis, Ross Dean -

Ross Dean Travis died recently following an accident at Skookumchuck Dam near Centralia, Wash. He was an inspector for the Betchel Construction Company.

Mr, Travis was born in Minden, Nebr., July 28, 1926, and served in the US Navy during World War II. He had followed heavy construction work most of his life and went to Washington fourteen years ago. He worked on construction jobs at Chelan, Ellensburg and Moses Lake before moving to Olympia last year.

Mr. Travis was a member of the First Baptist Church Turnwater.

Surviving are his wife, June, 1 daughter, Susan and a son, Marion, both at home, his mother, Mrs. Sylvia Travis of Lenox, seven brothers, Paul of Amhurst,

Nebr., Mark of Riverdale, Nebr., Tom of Kearney, Nebr., Bruce and Marion, both of Creston, Iowa, John of Dike, la., and Lloyd of Corning.

Wood, Jessie Churchill -

Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Wood have received word of the death of Mrs. Bert Wood, the former Jessie Churchill, Sept. 25th at Idaho Falls, Idaho.

Mrs. Wood is a former Lenox resident, having left here in 1914.

Survivors include her husband, two sons, Forrest and Lowell of Idaho Falls.

Funeral services were held Sept. 29th at Idaho Falls with burial in a cemetery there.

She was a cousin of Lloyd Wood of Lenox.
