Stella
G. Andrews, the daughter of George and Dora Weaver Hunter was born March 11, 1897
in Taylor county, Iowa.
She
died at the Lenox Care Center in Lenox, Iowa on Wednesday, June 23 at the age of
eighty-five years, three
months
and twelve days.
On
April 5, 1915, she was united in marriage with Hugh E. Andrews at St. Joseph,
Missouri.
Stella
was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, the GVC Club, and a past member
of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Preceding
her in death were her parents; her son, Wilfred in 1971; her husband in 1974;
four sisters, and a brother.
Survivors
include a daughter-in-law, Norene Storer of Chicago, Illinois; a sister,
Margaret Wurster of Lenox; five grandchildren;
four
great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services
were held Saturday, June 26 at the United Presbyterian Church at 10:30 a.m.
with Reverend Don Fisher
officiating.
Music
was by Roberta Lockhart, organist. The selections were "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere"
and "Surely Goodness and Mercy."
Casket
bearers were Eldon Bose, Jim Rice, Jack Carey, Jim Carey, Paul Davis, and
George Reynolds.
Interment
was in the East Fairview Cemetery in Lenox.

Robert
P. Beach, 71, of Camarillo, California, died July 3 at the home of his
daughter, Charlene Gagilardi in Hidden
Valley,
California, following a lengthy illness.
Services
will be conducted Saturday, July 10 aboard a boat in the San Pedro Harbor near Long
Beach, California.
He is
survived by his wife, lloene, two daughters, Mary Ann Beach of Banger, Maine, and
Charlene and husband, Ed
Gagilardi
of Hidden Valley, California, and four grandchildren, Joey, Kirstin, Michael,
and Rebecca Gagilardi.
Other
survivors include three sisters, Josephine Walter and Liz Brown, both of Lenox,
and Marjorie Steinke of Spokane,
Washington,
and two brothers, Walter G. Beach of Dallas, Texas and Bill Beach of Sharpsburg.
Memorials
have been established for a cancer fund and a heart fund.

Robert
Page Beach died July 3, after a long illness. He was born in Taylor County,
Iowa, September 6, 1910, the son of
Clifford
S. and Eula P. Bench.
He
graduated from George Washington University, Washington, D.C., in 1937 with a Bachelors
Degree in Business
Administration.
He continued his education there with post graduate work from 1940 until 1942.
He
enlisted in the United States Marine Corps during World War II and served from 1942
to 1946, retiring at the rank
of
Major.
Mr.
Beach worked in the Federal Government for forty years. He retired from the Department
of Agriculture as
Director
of Production and Marketing and Vice President of the Commodity Credit
Corporation in 1969. During his years
of
service, Mr. Beach received the United Superior Service Award, the Superior
Service Award and Silver Medal, and
the
Distinguised Service Award and Gold Medal.
He
was a member of the American Society of Public Administration, the Federal
Government Accountants Association,
the
Potomac Appalachian Trail Club, the Methodist Church of Springfield, Virginia,
and was the fiddler for the Allemande
Letters
Square Dance group from 1933 to 1981.
Mr.
Beach lived in the Washington, D.C. area until 1981 when he and his wife moved
to Camarillo. California.
He
is survived by his wife Jolene of Camarillo, California his daughters, Mary Ann
of Addison, Maine and Charlene
Gagliardi
of Hidden Hills, California; two brothers, Walter G. Beach of Dallas, Texas and
Bill Beach of Sharpsburg, Iowa;
three
sisters. Josephine Walter of Lenox, Iowa; Marjorie Steinkt of Spokane.
Washington, and Elizabeth Brown of
Lenox,
Iowa; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Burial will take place at sea.
In
lieu of flowers the family request that contributions be made to the American
Cancer Society or the Heart Fund.

William Dale (Bill) -
William
Dale "Bill" Brammer of Conway died in a construction accident Friday,
July 30 at Newman Grove, Nebraska at the
age
of twenty-four years, eight months and sixteen days. The son of Joe C. and
Lometa Brammer, he was born at Corning,
Iowa
on November 13, 1957.
Bill
grew up in the Conway and Sharpsburg communities. He attended Lenox Schools and
was a member of the Sharpsburg
Methodist
Church.
On
March 16, 1979, he was united in marriage with Janet Jeanine Hall at
Independence, Iowa.
Bill
was employed by Midwest Silo Company of Clarinda at the time of his death. He
was a kind and considerate
father
and will be missed by all who knew him.
Survivors
include his wife, Janet and daughter, Crystal Pearl; his parents, Joe C. and Lometa
Pearl Brammer of
Sharpsburg;
two sisters, Jolene Fletchall of Grant City, Missouri and Cindy Campbell of
Clearfield; a brother, Larry of
Clearfield;
five nephews and one niece, as well as other relatives.
Services
were held Monday. August 2 at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in
Sharpsburg with Reverend James
Turner
officiating.
Music
was provided by Jan Bryant, pianist.
Casket
bearers were Jay Mains, Dave Capp, Charles Woods, Scott Mains, Joseph Bartlet,
and Byron Weinreich.

Caskey,
Dora Stoaks -
Dora
Stoaks Caskey of Lenox died Sunday, June 27 at the age of eighty-eight years,
two months and twenty-one days.
She
was the eldest daughter of Fred and Sarah Jane Preston Stoaks and was born
April 6, 1894 at her parent's homestead
five
miles northwest of Lenox, Iowa.
She
spent her childhood there, attending the Rural School. Later, with her parents she
moved to Lenox where she
attended
high school.
On
January 29, 1913. she was united in marriage to Leo Caskey at her parent's home
in Lenox. To this union a daughter
was
born on April 13, 1917 who died at birth.
Dora
and Leo were married fifty-five years. He died on February 23, 1968.
Not
having a family of their own, their home was always open for relatives and
young friends. One young man, Bobbie
Crossley,
was taken into their home at two years of age and cared for as a son.
After
graduating from high school. Crossley was provided a college education by the Caskeys
and now lives in Washington
D.C.
where he is employed by the U.S. government.
For
a number of years, Dora and Leo supported a Korean war orphan overseas.
Since
her husband's death, Dora resided in Lenox. Although suffering from illness a great
part of the time, Dora
continued
to maintain her own home and showed great strength and courage in accepting her
illness.
Dora
was preceded in death by tier parents, her infant daughter, her husband, and four
brothers, George, Charles,
Fred,
and Andrew.
Survivors
include one sister, Pearl Shaw of Spokane, Washington and a number of nieces and
nephews and friends will
cherish
her memory.
Final
rites were held Tuesday, June 29 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Christian Church in
Lenox with Don Jensen officiating.
Music
was provided by Dorothy Caskey, vocalist and Ruth Boltinghouse, organist. Selections
were ''How Great Thou Art"
and
"Amazing Grace".
Casket
beaters were Robert Morris, Wayne McFee, Kenneth McFee, Ivan Lucas, Clifford Preston,
and Lew Eckels.
Interment was in the West Fairview
Cemetery in Lenox.

Matthew
Fehring was born March 3, 1952 in Carroll, Iowa. He attended grade school at
St. Columbkille, Varina, and high

at Lenox Community School, Lenox. He graduated from Drake University in 1976, and
worked in Des Moines

his graduation. He attended St. Francis Seminary in Milwaukee for two years,
and took a leave of absence due to
illness.
Surviving

8 at the age of sixty-one years, three months and twenty-seven days.
Darrell
served with the United States Air Force during World War II.
He
was united in marriage with Gladys Beck on April 9, 1950 at the Calvary Church southeast
of Lenox.
Darrell
was a member of the Lenox United Methodist Church and Parkinson Post #250 of
the American Legion.
He
will be remembered by all who knew him for his skilled craftsmanship, his
insistence on doing a job right and the pride
he
had in being part of making progress happen.

Florence
Eva Orr, the daughter of Simeon and Alice May Orr, wag born January 13, 1895 in
Minden, Nebraska. She died
at
her home in Palm Desert, California on Friday, June 4 at the age of
eighty-seven years, four months and twenty-one
days.
Upon
moving to Lenox with her family, she attended grade school, graduating from
Lenox High School in 1913. She was
employed
by the Lenox Telephone Company before moving to San Francisco, California where
she was associated with
West
Coast Life Insurance.
Florence
took an early retirement and had made her home with her sister, Bernice Clawson
of Palm Desert, California
for
the past sixteen years. Florence was an active member of the Women's Club of the
Desert, a member of the
Whacker's
Ladles Golf Club and was one of the founders and charter members of the Garden Club.
A name plate in her
honor
will be placed in the Garden of Memories.
She
was an accomplished artist and leaves her oil paintings for others to cherish and
enjoy. She loved the beauty
of
the sunrise and the sunset, often calling attention to the artistry of the
Master painter.
She
had the pleasure of seeing the flowers she loved on the patio a few hours
before her death.
Survivors
include two sisters, Myrtle Orr of Los Angeles and Bernice Clawson of Palm Desert.
Preceding
her in death were her parents, three sisters, and one brother.

Reynolds, Clarence Guy -
Clarence
Guy Reynolds, the son of Henry Chancey and Cornettie Collins Reynolds was born
at Farmer City, Illinois
May
1, 1893. He died at the Clearview Nursing Home at Clearfield, Iowa on Monday, July
12 at the age of eighty-nine
years,
two months and twelve days. He had been a resident of the nursing home for
eighteen months.
Mr.
Reynolds moved with his family to Iowa in 1912. At an early age, he became a
member of the Methodist Church, later
transferring
his membership to the Presbyterian Church.
He
was united in marriage with Bessie Hughes on March 7, 1916. Two children,
Corine and Merrill, were born to this union.
Bessie
preceded him in death on June 27, 1942.
On
June 20, 1944, Guy was united in marriage with Elma Owens. She also preceded
him in death on May 7, 1946.
Mr.
Reynolds and Jessie Pinewere married on August 17, 1948.
He
was an active member of the Masonic Lodge in his earlier years and would have
become a fifty year member on October 2
of
this year. He was a member of the Clearfield School Board during the
construction of the current school building.
Mr.
Reynolds was employed by the Iowa Highway Commission for twenty-five years. His
main interest was in farming
even
though he held other occupations during his lifetime.
Others
preceding him in death besides his two wives were his parents, his daughter, Corine,
a sister and three brothers.
Survivors
include his wife, Jessie of the home; a son Merrill Reynolds and wife, Jean of
North Hollywood. California;
a
brother, Pearl Reynolds of Lenox; a sister, Amelia Jordan of Burbank,
California; a half-sister, Mrs. Adelyn Cox of
Hornick,
Iowa; two grandchildren, Richard Reynolds of Santa Barbara, California and
Linda Erb of Boulder, Colorado; three
great
grandchildren, Karen Reynolds of North Hollywood, California and Larisa and
Lacey Erb of Boulder, Colorado;
several
brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

daughter of Franklin A. and Adella Miller Casey, Verda was born July 27, 1892
in Mercer Township, Adams
County,
Iowa.
On
February 18, 1914, she was united in marriage with Roy Riley in Mercer
Township, Adams County. Verda lived in
Adams
County until moving to Creston in 1945. She was a homemaker and a member of the Salem
Church of the Brethren.
Preceding
her in death were her husband in 1963, a grandson, one sister, and two brothers.
Survivors
include a daughter, Lola Purviance and husband, Dale of Afton; a son, LeRoy Riley
of Afton;
one
grandchild; two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services
were held Wednesday, July 14 at 1:30 p.m. at the Stroud-Lindsay Funeral Home in

Verda
Elizabeth Casey Riley, daughter of Franklin A. and Adella Miller Casey, was
born in Mercer Township, Adams
County,
on July 27. 1892 and passed away at the Greater Community Hospital in Creston, Iowa
on July 11, 1982, lacking a
few
days of being ninety years of age.
Services
were held July 14 at the Stroud-Lindsay Funeral Home in Afton with the Reverend
Elmer West officiating.
Interment
was in the Greenlawn Cemetery at Afton.
She
grew to womanhood in Mercer Township where she was born. She was married to Roy
Riley on February 18, 1914.
They
lived on a farm near Lenox until they moved to the edge of Creston on a small
farm in 1945, where she maintained
her
home until breaking her hip in September, 1981.
To
this union two children were born, Lola Purviance and LeRoy Riley, both of
Afton.
Mrs.
Riley was a member of the Salem Church of the Brethren near Lenox and remained
faithful to her Maker
the
rest of her life.
Preceding
her in death were her husband, Roy, in 1963; a grandson, Larry Riley, in 1961; one
sister, Faye and two
brothers,
Clifford and Lloyd.
She
leaves to mourn her passing her daughter, Lola and husband, Dale; her son,
LeRoy and wife, Lottie; a grandson,
Lonny
and wife, Diane; two great grandchildren, Jason and Jodi, of whom were her
pride and joy; a niece, Darline Riley,
of
California, who became a special part of the family as she had made her home
with them for a time; a number of other
nieces
and nephews of which she was very fond, along with a host of other relatives
and friends.
Verda
was truly a farm wife and homemaker. She enjoyed milking cows, taking care of
her chickens and flowers.
She
was a loving and caring Mother always mindful of others and their concerns, lending a helping hand wherever possible.
She
will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Lester
Dean Stoner of El Cerrito, California, son of Henry A. and Jane Cameron Stoner,
was born on the Stoner
homestead
three miles north of Lenox, Iowa on July 21, 1897. He passed away Sunday, July
18 at Alta Bates Hospital in
Berkeley,
California.
Preceding
him in death were his parents; sisters, Fern Van Houten of Washington, Flora Francis
of Kent, and Cora
Butler
of Lenox, brothers, Harry D., Clyde, Percy and Dale, all of Iowa.
He
is survived by his wife, Bea of El Cerrito; daughters, Marjorie E. Bricker of
Reno, Nevada, Phyllis Jean Clifton of
Berkeley;
and sons-in-law, Milton J. Bricker of Reno, and Jack W. Clifton of Berkeley;
grandchildren, Jay and Mark Bricker
of
El Cerrito, Merritt Clifton and wife, June of Canada, Ted Clifton and wife,
Sally of Alaska, Nicole Clifton of
Berkeley;
great grandchildren, Teddy and Trina Clifton, son and daughter of Ted and Sally

Pasadena,
a number of nieces and nephews and many friends.
Les,
as he preferred to be called, was a man
of many talents. Besides farming, he worked at car repairs with brother
Dale
in Lenox.
He
was married to Bea (Bessie) Crouch of Blue Grove vicinity in Des Moines, Iowa August
26, 1919. They continued farming
in
the Lenox area, where their daughters, Marjorie and Phyllis were born, until
moving West in 1936. The next few years
Les
worked as a mechanic for Caterpillar Tractor Co. at Wenatchee, Wa., then at Bosie,
Idaho.
Moving
to California early in 1941, they settled at Vallejo, where, by working days
and going to night school he soon
graduated
as machinist 1st. Class at Mare Island Navy Yard. When World War II ended, he
and his wife returned to Iowa

for two years owned and operated the Grassfield Shoe Store at Waverly.
But
fondly remembering California's mild winters, they left for California once
more and Les was employed as Machinist
at
Shand & Jurs in Berkeley, until his retirement early in 1954.
When
a small boy he was baptized in Lenox Presbyterian Church and led a good life
all his days. Les loved to keep busy at
his
hobbies of woodworking and repairs, especially for his family, church,
neighbors and friends. As a special person he
will
be sadly missed.
Services
were held at Sunset View Chapel in El Cerrito on Wednesday, July 21 with interment
at Sunset View
Cemetery.
Memorials were sent to Alta Bates Coronary Care, 3001 Colby, Berkeley, California

Van
Orsdal, William Eugene -
William
Eugene VanOrsdal, the son of William Jacob and Lottie Mabel Plumb VanOrsdal, was
born near Malvern, Iowa
January
14, 1912. He died at McCuistlon Hospital in Paris, Texas on Tuesday, August 3
at the age of seventy years, six
months
and twenty-nine days.
At
the time of his death, Mr. and Mrs. VanOrsdal were visiting their daughter,
Joyce and family.
Eugene
became a member of the Hillsdale United Methodist Church at an early age. He attended
the Hillside Country
School
and graduated from Malvern High School in 1930.
In
1935, Mr. VanOrsdal was united in marriage with Mabel LuAnna Coffey at Omaha, Nebraska.
The couple moved to
a
farm adjoining his father's farm and they continued farming together. In 1946,
the family moved to a farm near
Lenox,
Iowa. Following the death of his father in 1957, they returned to the family
farm for ten years until ill health
forced
them to move back to the farm near Lenox.
Survivors
include his wife, Mabel of Lenox; three daughters, Marlene Buchanan and
husband, Richard of Westminister,
Colorado,
Joyce Andrew and husband, Jerry of Paris, Texas and Jean Geisler and husband,
Melvin of Boise, Idaho; four
grandsons.
Tracy and Douglas Geisler of Boise, Gregory Buchanan of Westminister, and
Michael Andrew of Estherville,
Iowa;
two granddaughters, Debra Geisler Moore of Boise and Jacqualine Andrew Cantrell
of Paris, Texas; two
grandsons-in-law,
Jerron Moore and Mark Cantrell; a great grandson, Curtis Merron Moore; two
sisters, Marjorie
Williams
of Hastings, Iowa and Maxine Raine of Gonzales, California; two nieces and one nephew,
and several cousins.
Services
were held Saturday, August 7 at 9:30 a.m. at the Larkin-Bender Funeral Home in Lenox.
Reverend Lester
Hessletine,
pastor of the Lenox United Methodist Church, officiated.
Music
was furnished by Norma Paymal, organist.
Services
were also held at the Hillsdale United Methodist Church at 1:30 p.m. Reverend Charles
Cowell, pastor of the
Malvern
United Methodist Church, officiated.
Florence
Brower was the organist. Vocalists were Arlene Hilton and Margaret Helen Bloomer.
The selections were "Beyond
the
Sunset" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere".
Casket
bearers were Gene Kelly, Ben Jackson, Bill Barber, Art Theischiefer, Carl Buch,
and Don Shade.
Interment
was in the Malvern Cemetery at Malvern, Iowa.

Margaret Amelia Hunter -
Margaret
Amelia Wurster, the daughter of George and Dora Weaver Hunter, was born January
4, 1890 in Grove
Township,
Taylor County, Iowa. She died at the Lenox Care Center in Lenox, Iowa on Saturday,
July 3 at the age of
ninety-two
years, five months and twenty-two days.
On
September 4, 1910, she was united in marriage with Ben Wurster at the
Presbyterian parsonage in Lenox with
Reverend
John C. Orth officiating.
Margaret
was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, the G.V.C. Club, and was a past
member of the Order
of
the Eastern Star and the P.E.O. Sisterhood.
Preceding
her in death were her husband, Ben. who died July 30, 1977; a son, Robert; five
sisters. Myrtle. Glenna,
Enola.
Stella, and Minnie; a brother, Lonnie; a son-in-law, Harold Wynn; and three grandchildren.
Survivors
include a son, Paul Wurster and wife, Betty of Fountain Valley, California: four
daughters, Louise Wynn of
Lenox,
Helen Kish and husband, John, Marian Lemaster and husband, Bill and Margaret
Brandmen all of Aurora,
Colorado;
fifteen grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; several nieces, and nephews,
as well as other relatives.
Services
were held Wednesday July 7 at the United Presbyterian Church in Lenox at 10:30
a.m. with Reverend Don
Fisher
officiating,
Music
was provided by Roberta Lockhart, organist. The selections were "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing
Grace".
Casket
bearers were George Reynolds, Harold Casey, Paul Davis, George Grey, Karl
Wurster and Glenn Henderson.
Interment
was in the West Fairview Cemetery at Lenox.
Larkin-Bender
Funeral Home of Lenox was in charge of arrangements.
A
memorial has been established to the Lenox United Presbyterian Church.

Young,
Harold Allen -
Harold
Young, Sr, 62, of Creston pasted away suddenly Saturday evening Jane 26 of a massive
heart attack at the
Greater
Community Hospital in Creston.
Harold
Allen was born to Charles and Ida Young at their farm home near Lenox on February
2, 1920. He was
baptized
as small child at the Prairie Star church and he remained faithful to his Maker
the rest of his life.
He
grew to manhood in the Lenox vicinity and on February 7, 1941 he married Agnes Christensen
at the Presbyterian
parsonage
in Kent, Iowa. To this union was born three children: Cheralellen, Joyce and Harold
Jr.
Harold
was called on October 8, 1942 to serve his country in active duty during World
War 2 in the European conflict and was
honorably
discharged on October 11, 1945. After that he worked as a farm hand in the Kent
vicinity and later moved to
Rolfe,
Iowa, returning to Creston in 1962. He suffered a severe stroke in 1971 which
left him paralyzed, yet he
kept
as busy as health would permit doing woodworking and helping others.
Left
to mourn his passing are his children and their families, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene
(Cheralellen) Applegate of Pocahontas,
Mr.
and Mrs. Daniel (Joyce) Means of Creston and Mr. and Mrs. Harold A. Young, Jr.
of Rockwell City, along with four
grandchildren,
Terry and Todd Applegate, Lance Means and Tracey Smith. Other survivors are his
brothers George,
Richard,
Kenneth and William, all of Lenox, Dale Young of Madrid, Iowa, and sister,
Betty Case of Lenox plus many nieces,
nephews
and their families and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents,
a sister, Mary Jean and
brother
Donald Paul.
Funeral
services were held Tuesday afternoon, June 29 at the Coen-Beaty Funeral Home in
Creston. Reverend Lyle V.
Kuehl
officiated. Mrs. Dorothy Kenworthy, organist, rendered the musical selections
were "The Old Rugged Cross" and
"How
Great Thou Art" .
Casket
bearers of the flag draped casket were John Oshel, True Johnson, Lewis
Utterback, Karol Reed, Waldo Williams,
and
Dan Williams, all of Creston. Interment was in the Maple Hill Cemetery near Cromwell,
Iowa, with full military rites.
He
was a loving and caring father, always mindful of others needs and concerns,
lending a helping hand wherever possible.
He will be sadly missed by all who knew
him.
