Alexander, 61, died Saturday, Feb. 2 in a hospital in Kansas City. He grew up
here, graduating from the Lenox High School. He moved to Kansas City in 1941
and operated the Riverside Body Shop there.
He was married to
Grace Roe and was a Navy Veteran of World War II.
Services were at
Larkin-Bender Funeral Home in Lenox Tuesday, Feb. 5, the Rev. Wm. Trembly
officiating,
with burial in West Fairview Cemetery.
He leaves his
wife, Grace, and a brother, Richard E. Alexander of Seattle, Wash. His wife is
a sister of Mrs. Reldon Key.

Lillian Gwen Pringey -
Services were held at Massena
Funeral Chapel, Massena, Iowa, on Thursday, Dec. 6 for Lillian G. Anderson, 89,
who died Dec. 4 at the Lenox Care Center. Rev. S.D. Walker of the Cumberland
Baptist Church officiated. The music was by Mrs. Glen Spicker,
organist.
Casket bearers were Dudley
Dougherty, Arnold Edwards, James Mullen, Robert Mullen, Bruce Mullen and Dean
Williams. Flower bearers were Mrs. Wayne Erickson and Mrs. Gilbert Schoenbolm. Interment was in the Greenwood Cemetery at
Cumberland, Iowa.
Lillian
Gwen Pringey Anderson, the daughter
of Herman and Sarah Kirby Pringey, was born on March
9, 1890 at Cumberland, Iowa; and passed away at the Care Center in Lenox, on
December 4, 1979 at the age of 89 years, 8 months, and 25 days. Mrs. Anderson
had lived at the Lenox Care Center for
three weeks.
She was united in marriage with
Ralph Anderson on February 10, 1921. She and Ralph made their home in the
Cumberland community all of their lives. This marriage was blessed with the
birth of one daughter, Helen.
Lillian was preceded in death by
her husband; her mother and father; and by three brothers and three sisters.
She is survived by her daughter,
Helen Mullen and her husband Carl of Corning, Iowa; three grandsons; five
granddaughters; and 18 great grandchildren as well as by several nieces and
nephews, other relatives and friends.

Archibald,
Roy Raymond -
Funeral services
for Roy Raymond Archibald were held at the First United Methodist Church in
Knoxville, Iowa on April 9. He passed away at the Collins Memorial Hospital in
Knoxville on Monday, April 7, at the age of 71. He had been in ill health since
suffering a severe stroke November 12, 1972.
Roy was born
November 14, 1908 near Clearfield in Taylor County, Iowa and attended the rural
schools there. He graduated from the Lenox High School with the class of 1926.
On February 22,
1953 he was married to Ruth Swigart Dickson in the
Methodist Church in Lenox. He farmed in the Lenox and Clearfield communities
until health problems caused him to leave the farm. The family moved on
February 5, 1964 to Knoxville where Ruth accepted a position with Extension
Service, Iowa State University.
Besides his
parents, Roy was preceded in death by his brother, Ralph.
Mourning his
death are his wife, Ruth, of Knoxville; his stepdaughter and son-in-law,
Annette and Scott Thomas of Springfield, Illinois; one sister, Bernice Plants
of Lenox; his aunt, Ruth Lown of Des Moines; a
nephew, Dean Plants of Denver, Iowa; a niece, Donna 0'Connell, Littleton,
Colorado as well as other relatives and many friends.
Memorial
services were conducted by Dr. Leonard E. Deaver with
music by Anna Oscarson, organist and Dawn McKay,
vocalist. The casketbearers were Howard Dop, Harland Chandler, Frank Dainty, Wendell Williams, Eves Cadwallader and John Patterson.
Interment was at
Lincoln Cemetery near Knoxville. A memorial has been established for Nature
Conservancy, a national organization for the preservation of prairies, native
woodlands and wildlife habitat.

Bentley,
Archibald Maynard (Mac) -
Archibald
Maynard (Mac) Bentley, 79, died March 19 at Rosary Hospital in Corning where he
had been a patient for two weeks. He had been in failing health since he
suffered a stroke in 1961.
Services were at
the Larkin-Bender Funeral Home in Lenox on Friday, March 21, 1980, the Rev. W.
C. Trembly officiating.
Bernard Routh was the organist. Casket bearers were J. B. Routh, Mervin Walter, Reldon Boltinghouse, William Bentley, Allan Bentley, and Merle
Brown. Interment was in the Clearfield Cemetery.
Archibald
Maynard Bentley Jr. was born to Archibald and Martha Bell Bentley Oct. 15, 1900
at Clearfield. November 28, 1917 he was united in marriage to Mary E. Wood at
Spencer, Iowa. They lived for a while in Clearfield, then moved to Clarinda
where Mac was a clerk in a drug store. In 1939, he was employed by O.T.C. Tool
Company of Owatohna, Minn., and moved to Charlotte,
N. Car. After World War II he was promoted to district manager, with his
location at Atlanta, Ga., where he and Mrs. Bentley lived until they came to
Lenox in 1968.
Survivors
include his wife, Mary of Lenox, a sister-in-law, Bernice Bentley of Des
Moines, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a
brother Grover, two half sisters and three half brothers.
Mr. Bentley was
a member of the United Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge.

Bertha Marie Kruger -
Funeral services were held Tuesday,
Jan. 22, for Bertha Marie Bradley, 92, at St. Patrick's Church in Lenox. Mary Halligan was soloist, singing "In the Garden."
Casket bearers were Danny, David and Roger Reed, H. Brown, Richard Reason and
Larry Bradley, Jr. Interment was in Graceland Cemetery at Creston.
The daughter of Frederick and Marie
Rosenthal Kruger, Bertha Marie was born Jan. 17, 1888 at Creston, Iowa. In May
of 1909 she was married to Emmett Bradley at Creston. They were parents of
eight children.
She was preceded in death by her
husband, one grandson, her parents and eight brothers and sisters.
She leaves four sons, Larry Bradley
of Lenox, Robert of Montclair, Calif., Bernard of Jeffers, Minn., and Felix of
Spokane, Wash.; also four daughters, Lucille Reason of Lenox, Theresa Wheeler,
Ruth Ruberit and Virginia Rembold,
all of Renton, Wash.; one sister, Edna Grant of Lenox; 16 grandchildren; 24
great grandchildren and 13 great great grandchildren.

Carruthers, Leo Bernard -
Leo Bernard Carruthers,
85, of La Plata, Mo., died December 23, 1979 at a Kirksville hospital where he
had been a patient since December 17.
Born August 9, 1894 near
Clearfield, Iowa, he was the son of William and Sarah Hayes Carruthers.
On February 28, 1922 in Des Moines, Iowa he married Rena Hamilton who preceded
him in death on October 16, 1972. Also preceding him in death were his parents,
three brothers and one sister.
Surviving are one brother, Frank Carruthers of Lenox, two sisters-in-law, Mae Carruthers of Lenox and Elsie Carruthers of Cypress, California, and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Carruthers had been a construction and sanitary engineer for water treatment plants
throughout the United States. After his retirement in 1959 he moved to LaPlata. During World War I, he served with the United
States Army. During his military career he served for 18 months overseas.
He was a member of Reynolds-Martin
American Legion Post No. 282 of LaPlata. He was also
a member of the Catholic Church.
Funeral services were held December
27 in the Pollack Funeral Chapel in LaPlata, with the
Rev. Stanley East Jr. conducting the services. Pallbearers were members of the
Reynolds-Martin Post.
Interment was at LaPlata.

Hal Frederick Childs, 72, of 2815
S. 126th Plaza, Omaha, died Saturday, Jan. 19. Graveside services were held at
the Lenox Cemetery Tuesday, Jan. 22, at 1 p.m., the Rev Trembly officiating.
The son of the late Fred and Bernice
Childs, Hal was born in Lenox and graduated from the high school here in 1925.
He graduated from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and was a veteran of
World War II.
He was vice president of the Chils-Heider Investment Company of Omaha, and had been with
the firm since it started in 1960. He was a member of the George Linninger Masonic Lodge and director of greeters for the
Tangier Shrine Temple, also a past president of the Nebraska Investment Bankers
Association.
He leaves in his immediate family
his wife, Jeanne. Mrs. Imogene McCullough of Des Moines, formerly of Lenox, is
his cousin and an aunt lives at Creston.

Pearl L Shotwell -
Pearl L. Shotwell was born on April 30, 1883 at Brainard,
Nebraska, to Benjamin Heaton and Melissa Lowes Shotwell.
At
the age of 5 she
watched the blizzard of 1888 from a window of her home.
In November of
1903 she was united in marriage to Oren L. Davis of Grimes, Okla. To this union
were born five children,
RobBen Evan, Thelma Estelle, Oren Edward, H. Nadine, and Warren Eugene. They lived on
a claim at Grimes, Okla.,
where the first
three children were born. The family moved to Iowa in 1915.
She passed away
at the Bethesda Care Center in Ashland, Nebr., on April 3, 1980 at the age of
96 years, 11 months and
4 days. She was
preceded in death by husband, Oren L., two sons, RobBen E. and Oren E., daughter, Thelma Pennebaker,
four brothers,
and two sisters.
She leaves to
mourn her passing her son, Gene of Phoenix, Arizona, daughter, Nadine Wilcox,
Ceresco, Nebraska,
eight
grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren, and fifteen great great grandchildren.
She was a kind
and loving mother and devoted her life to her family. She was a member of the
Christian church in
Lenox, Iowa at
the time or her death. She had "True Grit."
Services were
Monday, April 7, at 10:00 a.m. at the Ceresco United Methodist Church in
Ceresco, Nebr., with the Rev
Michael Conner
officiating. Interment was in the West Fairview Cemetery in Lenox, on Monday,
April 7.

Dunbar,
Ethel Beadel -
Mrs. Dick (Ethel Beadel) Dunbar was born March 14, 1883 at Lenox, Iowa
and passed away February 13, 1980 at the Lenox Care Center where she had resided
the past month. She was the daughter of Walter and Ida Beadel.
She was married
to Dick Dunbar at the home of her parents. The marriage was blessed with five
daughters and four sons.
Mrs. Dunbar
lived in the Lenox vicinity most of her life.
Survivors include
two sons, George of Lenox and Dick of Phoenix, Arizona, three daughters, Lenore Bailie of Lenox, Olive Sutton of Phoenix, Arizona,
grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was proceeded
in death by her husband in June of 1957, one daughter, Dorothy in infancy, one
daughter, Maxine in 1976, two sons, Donald in 1976 and Lyle in 1960, her mother
and father, four sisters, one brother and one grandson.
Mrs. Dunbar was
a member of the Lenox Christian Church. She enjoyed good health with the
exception of a broken hip in 1974 and her few weeks of sickness before her
death. After the confinement to her home, due to a broken hip, life was made
enjoyable by her children, grand children, relatives, friends and neighbors.
Funeral services
were held at the Lenox Christian Church February 15 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Jack Cutbirth officiating.
Organ music was
furnished by Mrs. Ruth Boltinghouse. Casket bearers
were Kevin Dunbar, Terry Sutton, Michael Sertterh,
Michael Bose, Richard Lang and Richard Bailie.
Interment was at
Memory Garden Cemetery at Lenox, Iowa.

Mohler, Mary Margaret -
Funeral services for Mary Margaret Mohler, 29, of Bedford, were held January 21 in the
Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford. Rev. Carl Cummings officiated. Miss Mohler died January 17, 1980 in the Clarinda Municipal
Hospital. Interment was at Fairview Cemetery, Bedford.
Miss Mohler was found by her mother at the family farm shortly before 9:30 p.m. Thursday
night. She was found in a lane near the barn with a shotgun wound of the head.
She was taken to the Clarinda Municipal Hospital, where she died minutes after
arrival.
Mary Margaret Mohler,
daughter of Charles W. Mohler and Monica Cullen Mohler, was born at Creston in Union County, Iowa on June
17, 1950.
She grew to maturity on the farm
northeast of Bedford, where she attended her first year of school at the Hess
School in Clayton Township. She was graduated from the Bedford Community School
District in 1968. She then attended the Commercial Extension College in Omaha,
Neb., and after graduation was employed in Omaha until March, 1971. She then
returned home to assist with the farm operation and was employed by O'Bryan
Brothers, Inc. in Bedford.
Left to cherish her memory are her
parents, Charles and Monica Mohler of the home,
uncles, aunts, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
She will be remembered as a kind
and pleasant loved one and she will be sadly missed by all those who knew and
loved her.

Nicholson,
Lulu May Bivens -
Lulu May Nicholson, daughter of
Sidney Grant and Myrtle Watson Bivens, was born Aug.
16, 1896 on a farm near Lenox, Iowa, and passed away Jan. 15,
1980 at Rosary Hospital in Corning
at the age of 83 years, 4 months and 29 days.
While a teenager she became a
member of the Methodist Church in Lenox, and later transferred to Maize, Kan.
Nov. 26, 1919 at Wichita, Kan., she
was married to Albert Lee Nicholson
of Maize.
There were parents of two children,
Alford Louis and Marcile Ardella.
In 1936 the couple moved to Lulu's
birth place, on the home farm near Lenox that was settled by her grandfather in
1876.
Lulu took a stenographic course at
Boyles Business College in Omaha and was employed by the Cerney Cement Company there.
After they came to Lenox, she and
Albert transferred their church membership to the Federated Church at Stringtown where she has been an active
and faithful member. She served as
a Sunday School and Bible School teacher for many years.
She also gave of her time to
volunteer community service. She was president of the Lenox Unit of the
American Legion Auxiliary for two years and
served a term as county secretary of
the Auxiliary. She worked as a Lady in Blue at the Clarinda Mental Health
Institute, and at Glenwood State
School, and with visits of the
bloodmobile.
She was preceded in death by her
parents, her daughter, Marcile, her brother Arthur
and his wife, Eva.
She leaves to mourn her passing her
loving husband Albert L. Nicholson of Lenox, her two sons, Mervyn Belding of Lenoir, N. Car., and Alford
Nicholson and his wife June of
Lenox; three grandchildren, Clyde Belding, and his wife Helen of Lenox,
Kristina Harvey and husband, Dr. Michael of
Canton, Ohio, and Darla Nicholson
of Ames; four great grandchildren, Rodney Belding and wife Joan of Lenox,
Denise Reynolds and husband Dave of
Hampton, Jan Reed and husband Tom
of Lenox and Jolene Gourley and husband Dave of
Maryville, Mo.; as well as three great great grandchildren,
Shilo Belding, Cory Reed and Justin Gourley, many friends

Services were
held Monday, Feb. 25 for Paul L. Parker, 74, at Larkin-Bender Funeral Home in

Casket bearers
were Louis Votava, Jim Votava,
Bill Clayton, Myron Smith, Dick Longfellow and Gaylan Bell. Interment was in Graceland Cemetery at Creston.
Paul Lawrence
Parker, the son of James and Delia Oliver Parker, was born September 10, 1905
near Redding, Iowa; and passed away at the Rosary Hospital in Corning, February
22, 1980 at the age of 74 years, 4 months, and 12 days.
With the
exception of fourteen years during which he resided in southern Missouri, Paul
spent all of his life in Ringgold and Taylor counties.
On September 1,
1928 he was united in marriage with Mary Catherine Olney at Mt. Ayr. Eight children were born to bless this union. Paul and
Mary spent most of their lives farming near Clearfield until he retired and
moved to Lenox in 1973.
Paul was
preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Lee Smith in 1977; a grandson, Mark
James; his parents; two brothers, Sam and Elvin and by one sister, Martha.
He leaves to
cherish his memory; his wife, Mary of Lenox; four sons; Harold of Diagonal;
Paul Jr. of Council Bluffs; Jim of Mingo; and Jerry of Clearfield; three
daughters; Mary Alice (Mrs. Delmar) Hardisty of
Corning; Hazel (Mrs. Elvis) Riedesel of Altoona, and Ardella (Mrs. Charles) Jones of Ankeny; also 23
grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; two brothers; Frank Parker of Shannon
City; and Oliver Parker of Diagonal; and five sisters; Frances (Mrs. William)
Bullock of Creston; Mary (Mrs. Glen) Fox of Ft. Collins, Colo.; Ruth (Mrs.
Manson) Amick of Cabool, Mo.; Florence (Mrs. Homer) Vandinvort of Houston, Mo.; and Thelma (Mrs. James) Moore
of Riverside, Cal.; as well as by a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives
and friends.

Roberts,
Ruth Hamilton -
Mrs. Ruth Roberts, 72, of rural Corning died Wednesday, March 5, 1980 at
St. Joseph's Hospital in Omaha. The funeral was Friday at the Stringtown
Church, the Rev. Lowell Dickinson and Rev. Gerald Rogers officiating.
Burial was in the Stringtown Cemetery.
Mrs. Roberts was born Jan. 3, 1908 in South Haven, Kan., to James
Theodore and Anna Hamilton. She was married to Earl Roberts June 1, 1937 in
Atlantic, Iowa. She was a retired school teacher.
Survivors
include her husband, Earl of Corning; a daughter, Janis Miller of Wellman; a
son, Jim Roberts of Lincoln, Neb., and a granddaughter, Rachel Miller.
Mrs. Roberts
taught Math in the Lenox Community High School from the fall of 1958 until the
spring of 1966, according to the school records.
Ruth's mother
died when she was seven years old, and she with her two brothers came to live with
their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Greeley of
Gravity. She
graduated from the Bedford High School, and from the University of Northern
Iowa.
She and her
husband lived on a farm north of Stringtown for
thirty years, then moved to Corning in 1970.
She was a member
of Delta Kappa Gamma, and of the Stringtown Federated
Church.
After she moved
to Corning, she became active in the Woman's Missionary Society of the First
Baptist Church and was especially helpful in the White
Cross work.

Traves, Marie M Shoenhair -
Marie M. Traves,
who was born October 8, 1905 at Lenox, Iowa passed away on January 14, 1980 at
Imperial, Nebraska.
Her funeral services were January
17 at the United Methodist Church in Imperial, with burial there.
She was married in 1927 to Dewey Traves, who survives, and they had lived in Imperial since
their marriage.
She is survived by sisters, Mrs.
Dora Harper of Imperial and Mrs. Irene Gardner of Creston, and brothers. John Schoenhair
of Mason City, Harry and Raymond Schoenhair of Creston, and Clarence Schoenhair of Omaha, Nebraska.

Irma Uehling -
Relatives here received word of the
death of Irma (Uehling) Voss, 58, of Chehalis, Wash.
She passed away suddenly Jan. 9 after a heart attack.
She is survived by her four
children, Brian, Kenneth, Sally and Charla, all of
Washington.
Relatives here are a brother,
Delmar Uehling of Prescott, and two sisters of
Corning, Mrs. Owen (Hattie) Schafroth and Mrs. Dick (Bernadean) Miller,
also four sisters and a brother in
Washington and another brother in Stillwater, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her
husband, Leslie Voss in 1952, and a brother, Ernest in 1961. Funeral services
were pending. Because of the unusual
severe snow storm on the west
coast, the families here did not attend the funeral.

Wilhite, Cecil L -
Cecil L. Wilhite, 61, a prominent area farmer, died suddenly Monday evening,
March 10, 1980 at Renwick, Iowa. He had driven the Corwith-Wesley
band students,
with their instructor, Linda Cutshall, to the school
at Renwick for a band clinic when he was stricken by an apparent heart attack
and
passed away
instantly.
Funeral services
were March 13 at the Corwith School Auditorium, Rev.
Bernard Tucker of the Grace Baptist Church officiating.
Mrs. Ed Gourley was the organist, accompanying Mrs. Dave Nail,
soloist.
Burial was in
the Corwith Cemetery.
Cecil L. Wilhite was born July 6, 1918 to Earl and Carrie Wilhite at Corwith, Iowa. He
graduated from the Corwith school in 1937.
On Jan. 22,
1978, he was married to Margery M. Curtis, the wedding taking place at Corwith.
He is survived
by his wife, Margery; three sons, David of Bowling Green, Ky.; Paul of Traverse
City, Mich.; and Mark of Charlevoix, Mich.; a daughter,
Mrs. George Parcher of Springfield, Ohio; one stepson, Stan Curtis of
Lenox and one stepdaughter, Carolyn Stream, both of Lenox.
He is also
survived by ten grandchildren and six brothers.
Cecil was a
member of the Grace Baptist Church of Corwith, Corwith Community Club, and the Corwith-Wesley
Booster Club.
He was
interested and active in all that happened in the community, especially young
people and the sports of the school.
He had driven a
school bus on a daily route and to sporting events for 16 years. In that time
he acquired many young friends.
