Mrs W. Earle Alderson of Kansas City, Mo., died there Dec. 17. She was a native of
Kansas City. Earle grew up in Lenox. The only relative left in this area is his
sister,
Goldie Carlton of Creston.

(Chuck) A. Bailey passed away Sunday at 10 p. m. at the home of his daughter, Mr and Mrs Earl Stutesman. Services were held Wednesday at
2 p.
m. at the Methodist Church. Rev Herbert Phillips officiated. Burial was in the
Clearfield cemetery.

Charles Asa Bailey, son of John H. and Alice Johns Bailey,
was born Oct. 1, 1878 at the old homestead in Ringgold County Iowa, where he
passed away Jan.
19,
1964, at the age of 85 years, 3 months, and 19 days.
He
grew to manhood near Clearfield and on Nov. 28, 1900 was united in marriage to
Emma Clayton. They established their home on the old Bailey homestead
near
the Platte River.
To
this union were born 4 children; Opal Stutesman of
Diagonal, Merrill and Lee of Clearfield and Ross of Thayer, Iowa.
He
was preceded in death by his wife Emma and his parents and one sister. He leaves to mourn his daughter Opal, and
husband Earl, three sons Merrill and
wife
Agnes, Ross and wife Mayme and one brother Robert of
Diagonal, and Lee and Esther. He leaves
10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and other relatives and many friends.

Bennison, Jessie Mae Riley -
Mrs Wm (Mae) Bennison, 74, died Monday evening at a
hospital in Clarinda. Services will be Thursday at 2 p. m. at the Bender
Funeral Home with burial
in
the Lenox cemetery.
The
former Jessie Mae Riley, Mrs Bennison was born on a farm near Lenox. She was a former school teacher and was known for
artistic flower arrangements
and
musical activities in the church. She
and her husband grew many varieties of peony, iris and gladiola, and won awards
at shows throughout this area. She
furnished
artistic arrangements for weddings and other events. She had been active in
church work and in the choir of the United Presbyterian Church.
One
of her hobbies was the collection of demitasse cups and saucers.
Surviving
are her husband William, a son Robert of DeKalb, Ill., 2 grandsons, a sister, Mrs Claude Bovaird of Prescott, 2
brothers, Harvey and Harold
Riley
of Lenox.
The
family requested that money be given to a memorial fund for the Presbyterian
Church instead of being spent for flowers. Anna Turner or
Bender
Funeral Home will accept
contributions.

Bennison, Jessie Mae Riley -
Jessie
Mae, daughter of Martin and Alice Riley, was born near Mercer Center, May 8,
1889, and passed from this life January 13, 1964, at the age of 74
years,
8 months and 5 days.
At
an early age she joined the Mercer Center Church serving there faithfully as a
Sunday School teacher and pianist.
After
teaching school several years she was married to William R. Bennison on April 19, 1916. This union was blessed with one son, Robert.
After
transferring her membership to the United Presbyterian Church of Lenox, she
became a loyal and faithful Sunday School teacher and choir
member.
While Mrs Bennison was interested
in poetry, flowers and her community in general, her chief devotion was to her
family, her home and her church. She
was
a wonderful Christian and mother, who was loved by all who knew her. Her loving
thoughtfulness and sacrifice for others will be sadly missed.
Besides
her devoted companion and husband she leaves to mourn her passing, a son,
Robert; a daughter-in-law, Esther; two grandsons, Larry and Bradley;
a
sister, Ethel Bovaird and her husband Claude; two
brothers, Harvey and Harold; two nephews, Carl and Donald Bovaird and their families; and a
sister-in-law,
Berta Bennison .We feel now the expression that Mrs Bennison has used to comfort
others.

A
service in memory of Robert Hartman Dawson, a long time resident of the Wellman
area was conducted by the Rev. Lloyd Bauer at Pleasant Hill
Church
near Wellman on Sunday, August 23.
Mr Dawson, born June 24, 1877 on the Franklin community farm of his parents, Ephriam and Jennetta Dawson, was
a twin to the late John Hartwell
Dawson
and brother of Mrs Grace Heiserman of Wellman.
He
was married in 1911 to Abi L. Van Houten of Lenox whom he met when both were returning from sightseeing trips to the
Pacific Coast. They lived
for
7 years on a farm in the Amish community taking active part in Pleasant Hill Methodist
Church affairs. Two of their three children were born in Wellman.

Lydia Strong -
Mrs Lydia Filbert 87, dled Wednesday, Jan. 15 at the
Lenox Rest Home. The funeral was Saturday at the Sharpsburg United Presbyterian
church, the
Rev.
James E. Eddy officiating.
The
daughter of Van R and Martha Hodge Strong the deceased was born, Mar 18, 1876
north of Sharpsburg, and lived in that vicinity all of her life
until
four years ago when she entered the Lenox Rest Home.
Feb.
2, 1898, she was married to Edd Filbert. They were
the parents of three children, Mrs Earl (Martha)
Shaffer of Villisca, Clyde of Adair, and Mrs Loran
(Cora)
Boyer of Silver City. These with 8 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren
survive.
Mrs Filbert was a charter member of the Sharpsburg Presbyterian Church.

Mrs Maria Froescher, 95, died at the Lenox Rest Home
Sunday. Services are being held Tuesday at 2 p. m. at the Bender Funeral Home

Froescher, Hannah Maria Hood -
Hannah
Maria Hood was born at Savanna, Illinois February 13, 1868 and passed away at
the Lenox Nursing Home December 29, 1963 where she had resided
for
the past 6 years. She lived to the age of 95 years, 10 months and 16 days.
She
was united in marriage to Herman Froescher in 1903
and lived in South Dakota for many years until they moved to Lenox in 1915.
She
became a member of the Methodist Church when quite young, but was not able to
attend on account of her crippled condition.
Mrs Froescher was preceded in death by her husband, two
step-sons and one, step-daughter.
Those
left to cherish her memory are, one step-daughter, Mrs Lizzie Ambrose, 3 grand sons, Reldon, Karl and Jasper
Ambrose of Lenox and one granddaughter,
Mrs Lucille Davis of Omaha, Nebraska.
Mrs Froescher is the last of a family of nine children.

Florence Laird-
Funeral
services for Florence Gray, 63, of Roswell, N Mex. and formerly of Lenox were
held at 10:00 a m; Jan. 14 at the Ballard Chapel in
Roswell.
Mrs Gray was the former Florence Laird and was survived by her husband and three
sons, Loren of Kansas City, Mo., Billy of Fort Worth, Texas, and Jimmie of
El
Paso, Texas.
Mrs Gray had resided in Roswell for the past 20 years. She was preceded in
death by her father and mother, Mr and Mrs Homer Laird.
The
news of the death came to Mrs Ralph Schooling of
Brooks.

Rolla
Hale of Malvern, 78 years of age, died there Dec. 26. His wife survives, also two brothers, Glenn
Hale and Leo Hale, both of Lenox. He grew up here
and attended
Lenox school. Those from here who went to the funeral were Glenn, Weldon, and
Fern Hale, Leo and his wife were in Colorado.

Hetz, Christian D -
Christian
D. Hetz passed way at his home, 3059 B Street, San
Diego, California, on Jan. 19, 1964. He was born in Wurtenburg,
Germany on December
24,
1887, and came to Lenox with his parents in 1893. Mr Hetz attended the Lenox School, and spent many years in and
around Lenox.
In
1914, he was united in marriage to Miss Nellie Beach, daughter of the late
George and Luella Beach. Mr and Mrs Hetz spent several years in Battle
Creek,
Michigan, where he was a foreman at Kellogg's. In 1917, they returned to Lenox
where they resided until 1941, when he and his family moved to San
Diego.
He was a well known painter and carpenter, working until last year when his
health began to fail.
His
survivors are his widow, Nellie, four children, Mrs Vivienne Boyles, Norman, Mrs Donna Lou Manroe, and Clifford; a brother, Fred Hetz of El Cajon,
Calif.,
seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was the last surviving
uncle of twenty-four nieces and nephews.
He
was a kind and loving husband and father, always lending a helping hand where
ever he could.
Services
were held at Greenwood Mortuary, conducted by the Rev. Alexander Milmine. Mr Hetz was laid to rest in the Greenwood Memorial Park on
Wednesday,
Jan. 22, 1964.

Mrs Charles (Edith) Hewitt, 81, died Tuesday at the Creston hospital. Funeral services were Friday at the Methodist Church

officiating. Burial was in Fairview cemetery.
OBITUARY
Edith
May Butler, daughter of John and Anna Agler Butler
was born on a farm in the northwestern part of Ringgold County Sept. 27, 1882,
and departed
this
life Dec. 24, 1963.
At
an early age she moved with her parents to a farm in southwest Union County
where she attended the Prairie Star school and also Prairie Star Church where
she was a lifetime member.
At
the age of sixteen, with the passing of her mother, she took over the
responsibility of making a home for her father and seven brothers and sisters.
In
March 1902 she was united in marriage with Charley Hewitt who survives her.
They started housekeeping on the Hewitt homestead where he had already
established
a home. They resided on this farm until four years ago when they moved into
Lenox.
To
this union were born four daughters and two sons, Velma Bentley, Diagonal, Ray
Hewitt, Irene Wurster, Lenox, Lucille Shawler and Helen Blazek of Creston. One son, Ralph
preceded her in death in 1921, also an infant grandson, Donald Hewitt Bentley
in 1927.
Others
left to mourn her memory are one daughter-in-law, four sons-in-law, 15
grandchildren and1 25 great grandchildren; one brother, Harry Butler, and five
sisters, Mrs Mabel Wilson, Mrs Olive Hughes, Mrs Carrie Dahlberg, and Mrs Nellie Peterson, all of Lenox, and Mrs Jane Jones of Oskaloosa.
They
were privileged to have celebrated their sixty-first wedding anniversary last
March. Such family gatherings was one of her greatest pleasures. She also
enjoyed the friendship of her neighbors, friends and other relatives. She was a
loving and devoted wife and mother and was never happier than when she had her
loved ones around her.

Nelson, 72, died Tuesday at the Creston hospital after a short illness. He
lived on Rt. 4, Creston at present, but had previously lived in the Lenox area.
The funeral was Friday at Creston with burial in Lenox.
Mr Nelson was born at Leroy, Ill., Nov. 10, 1891. He was married at Lenox Sept. 1,
1915 to Esther Becherer. Surviving are his widow, 3
children, Harley of
Winterset, Mrs Kenneth Schaffer of Sharpsburg and Mrs Donald Shawler of Kent; 10
grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Leman and Everett of
Lenox.

Frank
Nelson, a long time resident of Adams and Union counties passed away at the
Greater Community Hospital. He was the son of Ida and Peter Nelson.
Frank
Nelson was born at Leroy, Ill., Nov. 10, 1891 and passed away Dec. 24, 1963 at
the age of 72 years, 1 month and 14 days.
At
the age of 3, with his parents, he moved to Lenox. On Sept. 1, 1915, he was
united in marriage to Esther Becherer. To this union
were born three
children.
Surviving
are his widow Esther, Harley of Winfield, la., Mrs Kenneth (Nina) Schaffer, of Sharpsburg; Mrs Don
(Thelma) Shawler of Kent; 10 grandchildren,

Mrs Christie Shelman, 81, of Sheridan, Mo., died Saturday
night at the home of a son, Arlie Shelman of
Pickering, Mo.
Survivors
are another son, Clyde of Pueblo, Colo.; two daughters, Mrs Raymond Dill and Mrs Byron Brown, both of Lenox, 12 grandchildren, 30 great grandchild, 6 great grandchildren.
The
funeral was Tuesday at 2 p. m. at the Christian Church at Sheridan with burial
in the Isadora cemetery. Mrs Shelman's husband died in 1940.

services were held Friday afternoon, Jan. 3 for Mrs Edith (Leedom) Tiedemann at the First Lutheran Church
in Newton.
Mrs Lyle Tiedemann, 61, of Ukiah, Calif., a former resident of Lenox and Newton
died at 4:45 a. m. Tuesday, Dec. 31 at the St. Francis hospital in
Grinnell,
She
had been in Iowa visiting during the holidays with her children and families
and to have a medical check-up.
She
was born Nov, 20, 1902 at Richhill, Mo., to Mr and Mrs Joe Roberts. She was
married Mar. 3, 1917 to Roy Leedom at Novinger, Mo.
They were the parents of 6
children: Mrs Paul (Darlene) Winslow of Sharpsburg; Mrs Gene (Helen) Dale and Lucille Wynn of Ukiah, Calif.,
Leonard of Eagle Grove, Edward of Newton
and
Donald of Grinnell.
She was
married to Lyle Tiedemann of Newton on Aug. 5, 1956.
She
is survived by her husband, Lyle, the 3 daughters and 3 sons, 18 grandchildren
and 2 great grandsons; also 4 sisters, 5 brothers and a host of other relatives
and
friends.
