Akers, Chester -
Chester
Akers, 82, died at the hospital in Leon, Sunday morning. He had been in a
nursing home there for some time. Mr. Akers formerly farmed near Gravity but in
recent years has lived on an acreage in the south part of Lenox. Mrs. Akers died
about two years ago.
Survivors
include three sons, Marvin of Leon, Melvin of Benton and Harold of Gravity, two
daughters, Arlene of Clarinda and Mildred Hammill of
California.
Lawrence
Kirby of Lenox is a brother-in-law.
Funeral
services were conducted at the Shum funeral home in Bedford at 2 p. m.
Wednesday with burial at Gravity.

J.D. Arneal received word Wednesday, May 15th of the death
of his sister, Miss Anna Mae Arneal of Ackley, Iowa.
Following
Memorial services at Ackley Thursday morning, graveside services were held
Thursday afternoon at the Redding, Iowa cemetery, with Rev.
Robert Odishaw,
of Lenox, conducting the service.
Besides her brother, JD Arneal of Lenox, she leaves two other brothers, CW Arneal of Edgerton, Wis. and Rev. John F Arneal of Laurel, Maryland, and one sister, Mrs Jessie McDell of Sesne, Pennsylvania.
Mr and Mrs Arneal and Mr and Mrs Guy Henderson and
family attended the services.

Dr.
Don L. Bare of Dolan Springs, Arizona, died June 8 1968 at the age of 79. He
had been in failing health since 1960 and had been bedfast since he was burned
in

1967.
Doctor
Bane requested no funeral and that his body be sent to the Arizona Medical
School to be used in research.
He
had been a dentist in Lenox for 37 years from 1923 to 1950 when he retired.

Buckley, Bernice Crane -
Mrs.
Orville Buckley, 58, of Glenwood, la., former resident of Lenox, died Friday
night, May 10th at Clarkson hospital in Omaha.
Mrs.
Buckley was a teacher in the Lenox schools for eleven years and had taught the
past two years in the Glenwood system.
Survivors
include her husband, Orville, two daughters, Virginia of Glenwood and Donna Ibel of Denison and a sister, Mrs. Harold Norris of
Russell.
Funeral
services were conducted from the Methodist Church in Lenox Monday, May 13th at
2 p. m., with Rev. Arthur Freeburg and Rev. Floyd Newborough
officiating.
Music was furnished by Helen Brokaw, Beverley Bender and Norma Paymal.
Bearers
were Robert Caley, John Gregory, Hugh Edwards, Wayne Stouder, Gordon Jackson and Milton Hofstad.
Burial was in the Elmwood Cemetery at
Coin, Iowa.

Buckley,
Bernice Crane -
Bernice
Crane Buckley, daughter of Leonard and Blanche Crane, was born Mar. 12, 1910,
in Blanchard, Iowa. She departed this life May 10, 1968, at Clarkson Memorial
Hospital
in Omaha at the age of 58 years, 1 month, and 28 days.
She
graduated from Blanchard High School and went on to Nebraska Wesleyan to
receive her B.A. degree. She continued her education at the State University of
Iowa and received her master's degree.
On
November 10, 1951, she was united in marriage to Orville Buckley in Topeka,
Kans. They made their home in Blanchard, Iowa, where they reared two daughters.
She
was a dedicated teacher as is testified by her former and present students. She
began teaching at the age of 19 at Northboro, Iowa.
She continued at Bradshaw, Nebraska, Clarinda, Iowa, and spent 11 years
teaching in the Lenox school system. Her last position was at Glenwood.
She
was a life long member of the Methodist Church, a
member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and Delta Kappa Gamma, a teacher
sorority.
Mrs.
Buckley was preceded in death by her parents. She leaves to mourn, her husband,
Orville, two daughters and son-in-law, Virginia of Glenwood, and Mr. and Mrs.
Don (Donna) Ibel of Denison, one sister, Mrs. Harold
(Darlene) Norris, three nephews and one niece, as well as a host of relatives,
friends, and former students.
Services
were held Monday, May 13, 1968, at 2:00 p. m. at the First Methodist Church in
Lenox, Iowa, with the Rev. Arthur Freeburg, of Kiron officiating,
assisted
by the Rev. Floyd Newbrough of Lenox.
Pallbearers
were Robert Caley, John Gregory, Wayne Stouder, Milton Hofstad, Gordon
Jackson, and Hugh Edwards.
Burial was at the Elmwood Cemetery in

Charlotte Jackson -
Mrs. Orvin (Charlotte) Bush, 49, died at Rosary hospital
in Corning Monday evening, July 15th, following a lingering illness. Mrs. Bush
had been taken
to
the hospital Sunday.
She
was born November 7, 1918 at Nevinville, Iowa, and
was united in marriage to Orvin Bush January 10,
1946. To this union, two children, Paula and
Jeffrey
were born. The family lived for several years in the Stringtown neighborhood and have been residing at the present farm home for the past 15
years.
Mrs. Bush taught school for several years and was a member of the Methodist
church in which she was an ardent worker.
Survivors
include her husband, one son Jeffrey, a daughter Paula, her father Charles W.
Jackson of Creston, one sister, Mrs. Marvin Nelson of Des Moines,
two
brothers, Bradford D. Jackson and Wayne D. Jackson, both of rural Creston and a
host of friends.
She
was preceded in death by her mother, Frances Jackson and one sister, Helen Donelison.
Funeral
services will be conducted Thursday afternoon at 2 p. m. from the Methodist
Church with Rev. Floyd Newbrough officiating.
Music
will be furnished by Marjean Spicer. Bearers are
Cecil Wilson Glenn Norton, Paul Brokaw, Ivan Lucas, Herman Haering and Eldon Jones.
The body
will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the services.
Burial will be at Stringtown cemetery.

Cain, Joseph J -
Word
was received here Tuesday morning of the death of Joseph J. Cain, 49, former
Lenox resident. Mr. Cain was living in El Cajon, California. Death was
attributed
to complications resulting from a brain tumor.
He
was born in Adams Co. May 14, 1919. Mr. Cain made Lenox his home until 1944
when he joined the Marines for service in World War 2. Upon his discharge
from
service he made California his home.
Survivors
include his wife Marjorie of El Cajon, his mother, Mrs. Rose Cain, two
brothers, Raymond and Paul of Lenox, and a sister, Mrs. Ralph Starry of
Creston.
Raymond
Cain was scheduled to fly to California Wednesday night where he will join his
brother's wife. Both will accompany the body to Lenox where funeral services
will be held from the Bender Funeral Home.
No other arrangements had made at this
writing.

Funeral
services for Joseph J. Cain, who died at El Cajon, California May 14th, were
held from the Bender Funeral Home in Lenox Friday, May 17th. The body had been
returned here for final rites, arriving in Des Moines Thursday night.
Rev.
Floyd Newbrough, pastor of the Methodist Church,
officiated at the services. Military rites were given by Parkinson Post of
Lenox.
Bearers
were William Scott, Kenneth Black, Don Saunders, Walter Brokaw, Leland Hegwood, and Ernest Hufnagel.
Burial was in Fairview cemetery.

Chris
Christensen, 84, a retired farmer of the Kent community, passed away at the
Greater Community Hospital in Creston at 5:10 p. m., Wednesday, May 15, after
an extended illness with carcinoma.
Funeral
services were held Friday at Coens Funeral Home at
Creston with Rev. Azel L. Smith, pastor of the
Methodist Church, officiating. He was laid to rest in the Clearfield cemetery.
Serving
as pallbearers were grandsons, Harold A. Young, Jr., and Daniel Means of
Cromwell, Mark and John Jensen and Phillip Hudson of Creston and Eugenie
Applegate of Gilmore City. Mrs. Reed Kline of Creston was the organist and
accompanied Darl Bell as he sang "Beautiful Isle
of Somewhere" and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus."
Chris
Christensen was born in Denmark, July 29, 1883, to Thomas and Nellie Magnuson
Christensen and departed from this life on May 15, 1968, at the age of 84
years, nine months and 16 days. He grew to manhood in Denmark and on January
29, 1904, was united in marriage to Sofie Christensen.
To
this union nine children were born. Mr. Christensen was confirmed in the
Lutheran faith in Denmark and in which
he abided until death. They came to the United
States
in 1910, locating in the Elkhorn and Atlantic vicinity and farmed there until
1937 at which time they moved to Union County in the Kent community. He was a
carpenter as well as a farmer and kept busy until his retirement.
He leaves
to mourn his loss, a son, Harold Christensen of rural Kent, with whom he made
his home, four daughters, Mrs. Gilbert (Rosa) Karas of Sharpsburg, Mrs. Einer (Mabel) Jensen and Mrs.
Violet Beal both of Creston and Mrs. Kenneth (Agnes) Young of Lenox, also 13
grandchildren and 15 great - grandchildren.
He
was preceded in death by his wife, who passed away November 25, 1942, three
daughters, a son, his patients, a brother, two sisters, a great grandson,
several nieces and nephews as well as a host of friends.

Richard
McKay, 16, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul McKay, former Lenox residents and now
living in Cheyenne, Wyoming, was killed in an automobile accident about
one
mile from his home May 18th. Another youth in the McKay car was also killed.
Mr.
and Mrs. Delbert Weeda, Mrs. William Weeda of Lenox and Allen Weeda of
Osceola returned home Thursday from Cheyenne, where they had attended
the funeral services for their cousin
and nephew.

McKinney, Cloyd -
Mr.
and Mrs. Reldon Beadel attended the funeral services for Cloyd McKinney, 23,
a nephew of Mrs. Beadel.
Services
were held at Lorimer Monday afternoon. Mr. McKinney
was killed in a car accident north of Trenton, Mo. late Friday night. He worked
on construction near Trenton and was on his way home to Indianola for the week
end when the accident occurred.
He
was married and leaves two small children. His parents, grandparents, one
sister, 4 brothers, several aunts and uncles and other relatives also survive.

Cora Lodica Godsey -
Funeral
services for Mrs. Jesse (Cora) Morris, 80, long time Taylor county resident,
were held May 11, 1968 at Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford,
conducted
by Rev. Ward Campbell, Mrs. Morris died at Clarinda Municipal Hospital on May
9. Interment was at Athelstan Cemetery, Athelstan, Iowa.
Cora Lodica Godsey was born to
George and Flora Godsey near Hopkins, Missouri on
December 23, 1887. She attended country school and lived most of her
life
in Taylor county with the exception of a few years in Kansas.
She
was a member of the Assembly of God Church.
She
was united in marriage to Jesse Morris on February 28, 1906 and to this union
two children were born: George of Heron Lake, Minnesota and Frieda, (Mrs. Teddy
Boyer) of Sharpsburg, Iowa.
The
last five years she made her home at the Armstrong Nursing home in Bedford.
She
is survived by her son, George, her daughter, Freda and husband Teddy, three
grandchildren, three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She
was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, an only sister, Judy Morris,
and her daughter-in-law, Ruth.
She
will be greatly missed by her family and friends and she left a special love
for her niece and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Armstrong.

L. Robinson, 73, a farmer living six miles southeast of Lenox, died Saturday at
his home. He had been in failing health for some time.
Survivors

Saugus, Calif., plus
several
grandchildren.
Funeral
services were conducted from Bender Funeral Home in Lenox Tuesday morning, July
2nd at 10 a m, with Rev. David Shaeffer, pastor of
the Christian
Church
officiating. Bearers were Cleo Sturms, Mack McCall,
Cecil Wilson, Reldon Ambrose, Loren Hinshaw and Wilson Longfellow.
Burial was in Oaklawn cemetery at Oakland, Iowa.

Lulu Ely -
Lulu
Ely Walter passed away June 5th, 1968 at the Colonial Nursing Home in Lenox
where she had lived the past two years.
Mrs.
Walter was born in Taylor County on October 27, 1884, one of four children of Ada and Charles Ely. She attended the local country school
and Lenox
High
School. On June 25tlh, 1903, she was united in marriage with Louis N. Walter, a
farmer in Adams County. To this union six children were born: Clifford, Mrs.
Ethel Grant and Julian and three who died in infancy.
Lulu,
a loving wife, homemaker and devoted Mother, carried her share of responsibilities
and shared in the joys and sorrows with her family through her years of living.
She was a life time member of the Methodist Church and a 50 year member of the
local Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She
was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, James and Grover Ely, a
sister Mrs. Julia Key, a son, Clifford and her husband Louis Walter.
Surviving
are her daughter Ethel of Long Beach, California, her son Julian of Lenox and
wife Josephine, daughter-in-law Gretchen Walter, four grandchildren,
Marvin
Walter of Seattle, Washington, Jean Walter of Iowa City, Mrs. Joan Lucas of
Ames, and Mrs. Sandra De Young of Alhambra, California, three
great-grandchildren, Kipp and Kristie Walter and
Leslie Jean De Young.
Her
relatives and friends are saddened by her passing.
Services
were conducted Saturday, June 8th at 2 p. m. from the United Methodist Church.

Wells, Clinton R -
Clinton
R. Wells, a former Lenox resident, died April 18, 1968 following a heart
attack. Mr. Wells was born near Derby, Iowa, Oct. 12, 1894. He later moved to
Clearfield. He lived around Lenox most of his early life. His mother passed
away when he was quite young and he
lived with his brother Elzie and wife for several
years.
Mr.
Wells was married to Bess Stoner Oct. 18, 1915 and to this union one son,
Clinton, was born. He served in World War I and was a bus driver from Des
Moines
to Kansas City for a number of years. In 1952 they moved to California. He had
been in failing health for several years. A few days before he passed away they
took a trip to Hawaii where he had a heart attack and died there.
Funeral
services were held in the Chapel at Pasadena, California April 23, 1966 with
burial in Pasadena.
His son
died in May 1968. His parents and brother Elzie also
preceded him in death.
Surviving
are his wife Bess and a half-brother in California.

Lulu Deettee Colegrove, eldest
daughter of Arthur and Delia Colegrove, was born Feb.
9, 1884 near Bedford, Iowa in Taylor County, and passed away April
27,
1968 at 10:20 a. m. at the Greater Community Hospital in Creston, Iowa, at the
age of 84 years, 2 months and 18 days.
All
of her early life was spent in Taylor County except one year, when she moved to
Kansas with her parents and lived there until her marriage.
She
became a member of the Methodist Church of Lenox when a child, later changing
her membership to a church in Detroit. The last four years she was a member of
the Assembly of God Church in Creston, Iowa.
On
March 9, 1904 she was united in marriage to Frank Wiand,
who passed away February 13, 1953.
To
this union were born 5 children: Henry, who passed away Oct. 16, 1952, Chas.
and Francis of Lenox, Martha Normile of San
Bernardino, Calif., and Luetta Smith of San
Francisco, Calif., 5 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She also leaves to mourn her passing 3 brothers, Merritt of Gerard, Kansas,
Ralph
of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Theodore of Detroit, Michigan, two sisters, Grace
Olson, Ferndale, Michigan and Ruth McCracken of Joplin, Mo.
She
was preceded in death by her parents, and 3 brothers, Ray of Pawnee City,
Nebr., Everett of Dallas, Texas and De
Las who died as a child.
She
was a wonderful mother, neighbor and friend, always ready to help where there
was sickness.

George Mosby. Interment was made in Fairview Cemetery.

Agnes H. Windom, 64, wife of Glenn Windom, died June 24th at Mary Lanning

for Mrs. Windom, who was a resident of Adams County for many years, were
conducted at the Christian Church in Clay Center, Nebr. Wednesday at 2
o'clock
with Eastern Star rites conducted by the Order of Chapter 217.
Services
will also be held at the Nodaway Methodist Church Thursday, June 27th at 2 p.
m., with the Rev. Lester Moore, officiating.
Burial
will be in the Nodaway cemetery.
In
lieu of flowers, there will be a memorial to the Cancer Fund.

Agnes Helen Hendrickson -
Agnes
Helen Hendrickson, daughter of Goodman H. and Sarah Anderson Hendrickson, was born
February 7, 1904 at Nodaway, Iowa and passed away Monday, June 24, 1968, at
Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings, Nebraska after a lingering illness.
She
was united in marriage to Glenn Alvin Windom on May 27, 1923 at Creston, Iowa
shortly after which they moved to Maryville, Missouri where they resided
for
one year before moving to the Fairfield and Clay Center, Nebraska communities
where they lived 8 years. In 1933 they moved to Logan, Iowa where they lived
one year before returning to the Adams county area where they were engaged in
farming until 1962. At that time they retired from farming and returned to the
Clay Center, Nebraska area.
To
this union four children were born: Mrs. Sarah Pauline Barnes of Overland Park,
Kansas, Mrs. Beverly O'Riley of Lenox, Iowa, Dr. Dean
Windom of Bethany, Missouri, and Mrs. Marilyn Wurster of Colorado Springs, Colorado, one daughter-in-law, Joan Windom and 3
sons-in-law: Stanley Barnes, Harold O'Riley, and Gary Wurster, five granddaughters and five grandsons and
one great grandson. She also leaves one sister, Mrs. Velma Cain of Ollie, Iowa,
two brothers, Marion Hendrickson of Nodaway, Iowa, Henry Hendrickson of
Lincoln, Nebraska, a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Agnes
was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Glenn of Big Springs,
Nebraska.
Her
special interests were her family, friends, flowers, and church. She was always
active in the church and affairs of the community where ever she was
living.
At the time of her death she was a member of Chapter 217 of the Order of the
Eastern Star and the Christian Church in Clay Center, Nebraska. She
will
be greatly missed by all who knew her and it was with her strong faith in God
that she has endured these past few weeks of suffering.

services were held from the Christian Church in Clay Center, Nebraska June 26,
1968, conducted by Rev. Don Burkum. Music was
furnished by
Rev.
Don Burkum, soloist, and Mrs. Jerry Kehn, organist. Pallbearers were Ronald Hendrickson, Carl Dahlsten, Harold Briggs, Joe Peshek,
Allen Wilkins,
John
Knox. Eastern Star Rites were conducted toy Chapter No. 217.
Funeral
services were held from the Methodist Church in Nodaway, Iowa, June 27, 1968,
conducted by Rev. .Lester Moore. Music was furnished by Rev.
Don Burkum, soloist, and Mrs. Dan Schaffer, organist.

Barnes, Malcolm
Shipley,
and Paul Lund. Burial was in Nodaway Cemetery.
