Adair, Vernon -
Vernon
Adair, 72, of 307 E Second St, Ames, died the evening of April 7 at the
Veterans hospital in Des Moines. He had been in poor health for six years but
had been in the hospital only one day.
His
widow, Mrs Grace Adair wrote that they lived here and
their children were born here. He leaves a daughter, Mrs Rex (Ilene) Johnson of Des Moines, and a son Maynard of Ft Dodge also seven
grandchildren; a sister, Mrs Maude McGhee of
Lineville and a brother, Elvin of Waterloo.
Funeral
services were held Monday, Apr 10 at the Stevens Funeral home, Ames, with the
Rev Leonard Fordor of the Baptist church of Osceola
officiating. Burial was at Ames.
Mr Adair was born at Clio, Iowa, and was a veteran of World War I. His widow was
the former Grace Hatchett.

Basler, Fred -
Fred Basler, 87, died Tuesday evening at the Lenox Rest
Home, where he had been for the last month.
He
was a retired farmer. His wife died in
1946 and he had made his home with his foster son and daughter-in-law, Mr and Mrs Robert Basler.
Other
survivors are a son Paul Basler of Hancock, two
daughters, Mrs Walter Wurster and Mrs Clyde Davis, also 13 grandchildren and a
number of great grandchildren, one sister, Miss Lizzie Basler of Maryland.
Services
will be Thursday at 2:30 from the Bender Funeral home, the Rev James Eddy
officiating. Burial will be in Lenox
cemetery.

Basler,
Fred -
Fred Basler, the son of Fredrick and Kunigunda Weis Basler was born on a farm near Finksburg,
Maryland, on February 4, 1874, and departed this life at the Lenox Rest home on
May 23, 1961, at the age of 87 years, 3 months and 19 days.
He
united with the German Lutheran church at an early age, and attended there
until he went west in 1898. He stayed in Illinois for a year and then returned
to his home in Maryland for several years. He came to Iowa in 1904 and lived in
the Lenox vicinity except for 3 years that he spent in Kansas.
On
March 15, 1906, he was united in marriage to Amelia Wurster in Bedford, and moved on a farm southwest of Lenox. In 1915 he purchased the
farm where he
spent the remainder of his life except for 5
weeks preceding his death.
He
is survived by Paul of Hancock, Iowa, Letha Wurster,
Freda Davis and Robert Basler of Lenox. Also
surviving are 13 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He is also survived
by one sister, Elizabeth Basler of Finksburg,
Maryland and a niece Elsie Warren of Sheldon, Ill. He was preceded in death by
his wife, parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Gordon
Brown, age 5, son of Mr and Mrs Francis Brown died at the home last Monday afternoon. Surviving with the parents
are two brothers Leo and Gary, three sisters, Shirley, Charlene and Gayle, all
of the home. Also his grandparents, Mr and Mrs Glen Brown and Mr and Mrs Earl Strong.
Funeral
services were held at the Shum Funeral home in Bedford Wednesday afternoon Rev
Frank Greenwood, pastor of the Methodist church officiated.

Crecelius, Dean E. -
Dean
E. Crecelius, 36, was fatally injured in an air crash
at Oklahoma City, Okla. Saturday afternoon. He was well known as a flight instructor in this area, having taught an
adult education class at the Lenox school and served as instructor for a number
of the members of the local flying club.
He
had lived at Kellerton, but recently moved to Creston
where he was manager of the airport and of the United Flight service.
Mrs.
Phyllis Van Winkle, 37, a passenger, died Sunday morning of injuries. Her husband, Sherill,
was seriously injured. The Van Winkles
had chartered the plane for a flight to Dallas, Tex. They were returning when the accident
happened. Pilot observers said the motor
failed just after take off and the plane nosed into a
gully as the emergency landing was made.

Gordon, James R -
James
R. Gordon, 43 years old, passed away after a heart attack Saturday evening
April 15. He was a mechanic and ride superintendent for Hale's Rides and was
working here at their winter quarters. He had been employed by Hales for 16
years.
He
leaves a wife, Jewell, and one son, James Jr., now stationed in Okinawa. Burial
will be at their home town of Auburn, Nebr.
The
Red Cross was making an attempt to contact the son before arrangements for the
funeral were complete.
Hale's
trucks were loaded and prepared to leave for Kansas City Saturday night or
Sunday. They delayed leaving until Monday, after Mr Gordon's death.

Haley, Clara C. Hurley -
Mrs Clara Haley, 88, long time resident of Lenox, died early Thursday morning at
the Lenox rest home. Surviving relatives in this vicinity are 2 nieces, Mrs Anna Hofmeister of Clearfield
and Miss Gracia McLaury of
Bedford, also a number of other nieces and nephews.
Services
were Saturday at 9:30 A M at the St Patrick's church with Father Adam Reisz officiating. Burial was in the St Patrick's cemetery.
Rosary was said at 7:30 Friday night at the Bender Funeral Home.

Clara C. Hurley -
Funeral
services for Mrs Clara Haley who died April 6, were
held at the St. Patrick's Church April 8 with Father Reisz officiating.
Clara
C. Haley, daughter of Dennis and Emma Hurley, was born near Farmer City, Ill.,
Aug. 29, 1872, and was 88 years, 7 months and 7 days of age when she died.
She
was married to Patrick Haley May 18, 1892. One son, Paul was born to them July
7, 1895. Mrs. Haley's son and husband passed away in 1897; the son Jan. 7 and
her husband May 9.
Mrs.
Haley came with her parents from Illinois to Lenox when she was eleven years
old and Lenox has since been home to her. She was brought up in the Catholic
faith, and has been faithful in attending church until the last two years when
she was in failing health and not able to do so.
Surviving
are several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives
from a distance who, attended the funeral included Mrs. Anna Hofmeister, Clearfield, Mr and
Mrs. Ralph McLaury, St. Joseph, Mo., Wm Knobbs of Maryville, Mo., Mrs Myron Smith, Clearfield, Miss Gracia McLaury and Francis Mohler, both of Bedford.

Handley, Connie -
Friends
here have received word of the death of Connie Handley of Stanhope. His widow
was known here as Esther Brown, and a proprietor of the Lenox Hotel
at
one time.
Mrs Handley lives at Stanhope but has been
employed to teach the first grade in an Iowa Falls school next term.

Huntsman, Ether Enis -
Ether Enis Huntsman was born Mar 11, 1890. The son of Javis and Ella Huntsman. He departed this life on March 31, 1961 at
the age of 71 years, 2 weeks and 6 days.
He
was married on Dec 12, 1909 at Barkers Milltown, Mo, to Thurza Buchanan. To this union was born 6 children. Three daughters, Mrs Freeman Opal Cone of Arispe,
Iowa, Mrs Harold Peggy Kountz of St Joe, Mo, Mrs Lewis Daisy Rice of Lenox, Iowa.
Three sons, Nolen Huntsman of Afton, Iowa, Earl of St Joe, Mo, Lowell of Lenox.
He
is survived by his wife and children, 14 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren,
4 brothers, Frank, Oma, Vista and Roy. Five sisters,
Elsie Davenport, Debbie Clark, Goldie Curley, Virda Lysinger and Otha Middleton. He
was preceded in death by 2 brothers a sister and 1 great grandchild.
A
kind and loving husband and father, he will be sadly missed by all who knew
him. Last rites were at the Methodist church in Clearfield Monday, April 3,
1961. Interment in Clearfield cemetery.

Proud, Robert L. -
Funeral
services were held at Creston May 19 for Sgt. Robert L. Proud, 38, who died of
a heart attack in Germany, May 1. He was
the son of Mr and Mrs Lyle
M Proud of Kent. Besides his parents, he
leaves his widow, the former Ardella Corey, a 2 year
old adopted son, a sister, Mrs. Virgil Crise and a
brother Larry L Proud, overseas in the service.
His
wife and son were with him in Germany. He graduated from Creston High School in 1941.

Larry
Dale Riley, eldest son of Leroy and Lottie Riley was born November 23, 1943 at
Creston, Iowa, and departed this life at his home early Monday morning, April
17, 1961 at the age of 17 years, 4 months and 25 days.
He
leaves to mourn his passing besides his devoted parents and brother, Lonny; his
grandparents, Mr and Mrs Roy Riley and Mr and Mrs N
W Bryant, all of Creston and vicinity, several aunts and uncles, Mr and Mrs Dale Purviance of Afton, Mr and Mrs Lloyd Ahnen, Merced, Calif; Mr and Mrs Willard Bryant, Kansas City, Mo., Mr and Mrs Paul Bryant, Merced, Cal.; Mr and Mrs Junior Dillenbery,
Creston, la., Robert Bryant of Des Moines, Iowa and a host of other relatives
and friends.
Larry
was a Junior in East Union Community school of Afton He started to school in
Des Moines, later moving to their present home where he attended Union No. 3.
He
was an ambitious youth, devoted to his parents and loved ones, willing to help
at-any time. He was active, as much as his health would permit in his school
interests, 4-H, work and other community interests.
His
fine character, thoughtfulness of others, patience in suffering has been an
inspiration to all who knew him.

Mrs Effie Taylor, 87, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs Ruby Bielman, in Creston Tuesday night. [April 11]
Bender Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements which have not been completed
at this time.
Mrs Taylor's home was in Lenox. She was the mother of Clark Taylor. Besides Mrs Bielman, she also leaves Mrs Lloyd Hamblin and Mrs Guy
Brown of Sharpsburg, Mrs Vera Martin of Greenfield.

Effie
Estella Thompson was born December 22, 1873 near Glenwood, Missouri to Ira G
and Alice Warder Thompson and passed away at the home of her daughter Ruby Speelman at Creston, Iowa, on April 11, 1961 at the age of
87 years, 3 months and 20 days.
When
a small child she moved to Iowa where she spent the remainder of her life with
the exception of one year spent in Enid, Oklahoma.
She
was united in marriage to Albert C Taylor on June 21, 1894. To this union were
born five children, Susie Brown of Sharpsburg, Ruby Speelman of Creston, Clark Taylor of Lenox, Vera Martin of Greenfield and Helen Hamblin
of Lenox.
She
was a member of the Christian Church in Lenox where she attended faithfully
until her health failed.
She
was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers Lester and Troy
Thompson and sister Bertha Ratliff.
She is
survived by the son, four daughters and their husbands, four grandchildren Gary
and Richard Hamblin, Bill and Karen Martin and one great granddaughter,
Kimberly Jo Hamblin. Also three brothers Elmer, Arthur and Walter Thompson and
one sister, Flossie Newkirk and several nieces all of Bedford.

Teatsworth, Arthur Clyde -
Arthur Teatsworth, 79, retired farmer of Lenox, died at
Creston Friday evening. He had been hospitalized with a broken leg.
Funeral
services were Tuesday at the Bender Funeral home with Rev Robert Duckett officiating. Burial was in the Lenox cemetery. Mr Teatsworth has been in failing
health for some time. Both he and his wife have been in a Creston nursing home.
She was able to come to attend the funeral.
Arthur
Clyde Teatsworth was born March 13, 1882 at
Bloomfield, Ill., and passed away June 2, 1961 at the age of 79 years and 2
months. In 1915 he was married to Agnes Conwell of Grand River, la. They made
their home on a farm near Shenandoah until 1936. To this union were born Mrs Helen McCain of Omaha; Homer Teatsworth of Lenox and Emmett Teatsworth of Shelton Wash. In 1936 the family moved from Shenandoah to
Lenox where they continued to live until this year. He was a member of the Christian
church.
Surviving
are his wife Agnes, two sons, Homer of Lenox and Emmett of Shelton, Wash.; one
daughter, Mrs Helen McCain of Omaha, 7 grandchildren
and 4 great grandchildren; 2 brothers Harry Teatsworth of Shenandoah and George Teatsworth of Keokuk, la.; 3
sisters, Ila Plows, Creston, la.; Ida Tunnicliff of Caldwell, Idaho and Carrie Ross of Lindsay,
Calif.

services were held at the Bender Funeral Home on Tuesday afternoon at 2
o'clock.

Wyant, Margaret Alice Long -
Mrs J U Wyant, 90, died Friday evening at her home in
Leon. She leaves two sons and one daughter. Her husband, one daughter and one
son have preceded her in death.
The
funeral was Monday at 1:30 at the Bender Funeral home with burial in the Lenox
cemetery, the Rev John Gill officiating.
Margaret
Alice, daughter of Hugh and Florinda Campbell Long,
was born in Mercer Co. Pennsylvania, Feb. 15, 1865 and passed away April 14,
1961 in the Decatur Co. hospital at the age of 96 years and two months.
She
was the last of ten children. The Long family came to Iowa in 1877. She
attended Tarkio college and taught for many years in Taylor and Ringgold
counties. On Dec. 9, 1891, she was united in marriage to James L Wyant. To this union were born 6 children, Hugh B., of
Lenox, Mrs. Ruth Graham and O. A. of Leon, Orville who died in 1950 and Helen,
in 1949.
She
was a life long member of the United Presbyterian
Church, serving faithfully in Sabbath school and in the Women's organization.
She devoted herself to the Christian education of her children and was a true
friend to her neighbors wherever she lived. Her loyalty to her family was one
of her strongest characteristics.
With
the exception of 3 years in California and a short time in Ironwood, Mich., her
life was spent in Iowa, the past 12 years in Leon.
Those
left to mourn her passing are two sons, one daughter, 10 grandchildren, 15
great grandchildren, one great, great granddaughter and many other relatives
and friends.
