received by Miss Rebecca Dunbar, the 18-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R.M.
Dunbar, formerly of Lenox. The
California newspaper follows:
Pleasantville,
December 15—A Sunday pleasure trip to the snow line on-the Baleh park road in the Sierra east of here resulted tragically for five young people
of this and the Lindsay district. Roberta Dunbar, 18, daughter of r. and Mrs.
R. M. Dunbar of this city was fatally Injured when the roadster with jumble
seat left the road and turned over alongside the road about 6 miles above
Springville late in the afternoon.
Miss Dunbar,
with Albert Smith, driver and Katherine Parker, both of Lindsay, were riding in
the front seat. Rupert Baker of Strathmore and Elizabeth
Spellman of this city occupying the rumble seat. Faulty brakes are believed to
have been the cause of the light car leaving the road and overturning as
they took a
curve near the Morris Gill ranch. Miss Dunbar was pinned beneath the car and
suffered a crushed chest. The others escaped with very minor
bruises and scratches. A nearby rancher rushed Miss Dunbar to the Springville
sanitarium where she lived only a short time. Her parents, summoned from this
city, reached her bedside just before her death.
