Brady, Lina Cresswell –
Mrs. A. Brady died at her home at Long Beach, California
Thursday, February 11. Funeral services were held at Monrovia Monday.
Mrs. Brady was an aunt of Byron and Hugh Cresswell.
She was well known in this vicinity as her home was here for several years.

Brady, Lina Cresswell -
Lina Brady was
one of eleven children born to Mathew and Catherine Stewart Cresswell,
all having preceeded her to the better land. She was born in Van
Buren county, Iowa, May 18, 1859, and passed away
February 11, 1932 at the home of her daughter in Monrovia, California
On December
17,1884 at Cromwell, Iowa, she was united tan marriage
to Abbott Brady. On September 1885 they moved by covered wagon to western Iowa
where they broke the sod on a pioneer place where they lived for several years,
thence for a sojourn of five years in Nebraska, before coming to Southern
California where they have lived for the past nineteen years..
Her kind and
gentle spirit won for her many friends who will long cherish her memory,
sympathetic and sacrificing life found many sorrowing and needy homes in which
she willingly and unselfishly ministered. This same quiet self-denying way has
grown into the life of each member of the family, and her influence will ever
live on.
Beside her
husband she leaves to mourn her passing, two daughters, Ida Smith of Los
Angeles and Frances Hardman of Monrovia, and three grandchildren, Donald Smith
and Marilyn and Shirley Hardman, and an unnumbered host of friends.
The funeral
service was held from Renaker Parlors, Monrovia,
conducted by Rev. Ernest L. Gregory, of Whittier, a life long friend of the
family. Interment San
Gabriel cemetery.
Mrs. Brady
was an aunt of Hugh and Byron Cresswell of this
community.

Brandt, Carl -
Carl Brandt passed away at his home south east of Clearfield
Sunday morning, February 7, 1932 at the age of 82 years.
He was a member of the Clearfield Masonic Lodge. He leaves
to mourn his departure his wife, two daughters Elizabeth who is at home and
Mrs. Dorothea Siverly, several grandchildren and a
host of relatives and friends.
Mr. Brandt is an old time resident of this vicinity and
until late years was an active farmer and friend.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 at the
residence in charge of the Masonic Lodge. Rev. John C. Turner, pastor of the
Methodist
church,
had charge of the sermon.
Interment was made in the Clearfield cemetery.

Branton,
Minnie –
Walter
O'Dell, manager of the Farmers Store, has received word from his family in Ontario,
Canada, that a brother and sister have died; another sister has undergone an
operation and another brother has just been taken to the hospital.
Minnie Branton of Oshawa, Ontario, died early Tuesday morning. At
this time the cause of her death is not known. John O'Dell of Oxbridge, Ont.
died Saturday night. The cause of his death is also unknown.
Annie Lynch,
Oshawa, Ont., was taken to the hospital Tuesday where she underwent an
operation and at this time Mr. O'Dell has learned nothing about her condition.
His youngest brother, Fred O'Dell, of Toronto, was taken to a
hospital Tuesday suffering with flu.

Clayton, Jesse Washington –
Jesse
Washington Clayton, son of James and Paradise Clayton, was born in Warren county, near Monmouth, Illinois, May 30, 1852, and died at
his home in this city [Clearfield] on February 25, 1932, at the age of 79
years, 8 months and 25 days.
He spent his
boyhood days and obtained a common school education and grew to manhood near
the place of his birth.
On Christmas
day, 1879, he was united in marriage to Jennie Stafford of Roseville, Illinois,
and to this union were born thirteen children. One
infant
son and
Edith Pearl died, in early childhood, the others are: Elmer Clayton of Edgley, N. D., Bertie Pointer of Detroit, Michigan; John
Clayton of Akron, Ohio; Ethel Porter of Des Moines; Arthur Clayton of Diagonal;
Jessie Williams and Nellie Lawhead of Leon, Iowa;
Emma Bailey, Myrtle Palmer, Charley Clayton and Marie Reed of Clearfield.
In 1880 Mr.
and Mrs. Clayton moved to Iowa, locating 8 miles southeast of Lenox, and two
years later moving to Ringgold county where they
raised
their family and
lived until thirteen years ago when they moved to their present home.
Locating in
this locality in its early pioneer days, it was the privilege of Mr. Clayton to
help in the construction of our railroad and also to watch Clearfield
grow from its
infancy to its Golden Jubilee which was celebrated last year.
It was a
source of great joy that Mr. and Mrs. Clayton celebrated their golden wedding
anniversary in 1929.
He united
with the Methodist church of Clearfield and was a faithful and consistent
member to the time of his death.
To mourn his
death are his wife, four .sons, and seven daughters, all of whom were present
at the funeral but Elmer, twelve grandchildren, four great grandchildren, three
brothers; Wilbur Clayton of Clearfield, Silas Clayton of Berwick, Illinois,
Chas. Clayton of Peoria, Illinois; and one sister, Mrs. W. F. Vaudeaver of Bedwick, Illinois; a
number of nephews and nieces, other relatives and many friends will ever
cherish his memory,
Funeral
services were held in the Methodist church, Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock,
conducted by Rev. John C. Turner, assisted by Rev. P. L. Browns of
the Christian
church and Rev. H. B. Hutchman of the United
Presbyterian church. Interment in Clearfield cemetery.

Crafts, Catherine -
Rev. Willis Crafts received word Sunday morning of the death
of his mother, Mrs. Catherine Crafts which occurred at her home in Fostoria,
Ohio, early
that morning. Mrs. Crafts was one week past 81 years of age. Rev. Crafts left immediately for Ohio to
attend the funeral which was held Tuesday at Lima, Ohio. Mrs. Crafts had been ill only a few
days. Her death was due to pneumonia.

Ferguson, Josiah Davis -
Josiah Davis Ferguson, a former resident of Clearfield,
Iowa, passed away at his home near Fort Morgan, Colorado, Saturday afternoon,
January 30, 1932
at the age of 72 years, 2 months and 27 days. He was born near Crawfordsville,
Iowa, November 1 3, 1859.
When a young man he moved to Clearfield where on Nov. 3,
1884 he was united in marriage to Anna Manifold. To this union were born three
children,
two dying in infancy. William Leroy, the oldest, survives his father. Mrs. Ferguson
passed away September 10, 1896 at Clearfield, Iowa.
Mr. Ferguson was again united in marriage to Miss Carrie
Long at Shannon City, Iowa, December 25, 1900. In 1907 they moved to Fort
Morgan.
When a young man he united with the United Presbyterian
church at Crawfordsville, Iowa and was an active and faithful member of the
Fort Morgan congregation
Late in August he was stricken with Bright's disease and although confined to his bed, he was patient and cheerful to the
last.
He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, one son, Leroy of
Wiggins, Colo., and one daughter Jeanette at home, two grandsons, a number of
nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at the United Presbyterian church at Fort
Morgan and he was laid to rest in Riverside cemetery.

Finn,
Richard -
Richard
Finn, son of P. J. Finn of Lenox, and proprietor of the Finn Drug Store, 1307
Forest Avenue, Des Moines, died early Tuesday morning at Broadlawns
hospital in Des Moines following an automobile accident which occurred Sunday.
Little is
known at this time as to exactly what happened to Mr. Finn. It is thought,
however, that he was injured in an automobile collision at Thirtieth
and Forest in
Des Monies when his car was struck by a car driven by B. L. Tripp of Ames. Finn
was picked up in an unconscious condition and was
taken to the
hospital where he lay for 24 hours without regaining
consciousness. His death was due to a fractured skull.
Edna Larson,
18, an Ames student, who was riding with Tripp at the time of the accident, was
cited to appear at police headquarters Monday to answer to a charge of
intoxication. Tripp, however, was not held.
Mr. Finn, who lived at 2906 Cottage Grove ave. had operated the Finn Drug store at 1307 Forest ave., for six years. He is survived by his father, P. J. Finn of Lenox, and: two sisters.
Funeral services were, held in Des Moines Wednesday and burial will be made
here today.

Martha Irene
Frame, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Frame died at the hospital in Glenwood,
Thursday, February 25, at the age of 3 years, 9 months and 1 day. She had been
in the hospital for 11 months.
Funeral
services were held at the Arnold Funeral Home Friday afternoon,
February 26
at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev; Turner of Clearfield. Interment was made in the
Lenox cemetery.

Hardin, Amelia A. Sutherland -
Mrs. Lee Hardin died at her home Thursday morning, February
11, after a long illness. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2:00
in the
Methodist church, with Rev.
J. C. Turner officiating. Interment was in
Clearfield cemetery.
Amelia A. Sutherland was born in Shelby county,
Indiana, May 4, 1851, and died February 11, 1932, aged 80 years, 9 months and 7
days. She came to Marion county, Iowa
when 4 years old with her parents. On
February 12, 1871, she was united in marriage to Leander Hardin and to this
union were born 8 children, four of whom are
living. One died in infancy and the
others were grown up at the time of their death. They were Mrs. Cora Dean, Mrs. Ross Moore and
Hugh Hardin. The living children are Mrs. Fannie Abraham of Ellendale, N. D.,
Sam Hardin of Aberdeen, S.D., and Wesley Hardin of Guelph, N. D., and a foster
son Reece Hardin , who has made his home with her since babyhood, and who, with
his wife, have been caring for her during her illness.
She became a Christian at the age of 16 years, uniting with
the Methodist church, and she has been a faithful member ever since.
She also leaves five brothers: Wiley Sutherland of San
Francisco, Lue Sutherland of Los Angeles, E. E. Sutherland
of Seattle, Washington; and Wm. Sutherland of Knoxville, Iowa, and George
Sutherland of Des Moines.

Heath, Ann -
Mrs. Frank
Heath passed away at her home Sunday evening March 20, 1932, at the age of 84
years, 10 months and 20 days . For more than 14 years she had been an
invalid but throughout this time she had been patient and cheerful.
Funeral
services were held at the Arnold funeral home Tuesday afternoon, conducted by
Rev. James Douthitt. Burial was made at Lenox.

Huffman,
Lyman –
Rev. and Mrs. L. V. Freeman were called to Luther, Iowa
Friday evening by the death of Mrs. Freeman’s brother, Lyman Huffman, which
occurred at the hospital at Boone. Mr.
Huffman was 32 years of age and had been ill for only a few days. Pneumonia was the cause of his death.
At the same time Mr. Huffman was ill, Mrs. Freeman had a
sister and brother-in-law seriously ill with pneumonia.
Funeral services were held at Madrid Sunday afternoon
conducted by Rev. Kaufman. Huffman had
been married and leaves his wife and a son age 10.

Hulen,
Howard D. -
Miss Martha Hulen was called to Moberly, Mo., last Friday by serious
illness of her brother, Howard D. Hulen. His death occurred
Saturday evening from
pneumonia. Funeral services were held at the family home
in Centralia Monday afternoon. Mr. Hulen was 23 years
of age.
Miss Hulen was accompanied by Francis Folcey and they returned Tuesday afternoon.

Henry LeCurtis –
Henry LeCurtis Markham, son of
Orson and Martha Markham, was born at Albia, Iowa, January 4, 1858, and
departed this life at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Carl Duey of near Prescott, February 26, 1932, at the age of 76 years, 1 month and 23
days.
He was married to Clarinda Ann Swearhagen,
March 30, 1876, at Mount Ayr, Iowa. To them were born seven children, two
daughters and five sons. Those living are : Norton, Dalley, Ohio; Guy,
Otis, Colo.; Vern, Sterling, Colo.; and Mrs. Sadie Vea Duey, of Prescott, Iowa. One daughter, Ethel, preceded her father in
death on April 25, 1904. Two sons died
in infancy.
One sister, Mrs. Belle Graham, Savannah, Mo., ten
grandchildren, together with his wife and four children survive him. Mr. Markham united with the Methodist church
at Mercer Center October 22, 1926. Since
then he attended services there and later at Stringtown whenever his health would permit.
Mr. Markham spent his early years and two years of his married life in
Iowa. He moved to Missouri in 1879 where
he lived in and around Graham. In 1912,
he with his family, moved to Lenox, where the lived for the remainder of his
life.
Funeral services were held on Monday, February 29,1932 at the Stringtown Church and
were conducted by Rev. Homer Caskey. Interment was made in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery
at Graham, Mo.

Willis Moon, an old time resident of
Clearfield, passed away at the Ringgold County Home Sunday afternoon. February

Moon, Willis
–
Willis Moon,
son of Warren and Emmaline Buell Moon, was born in Hamilton, New
York on December 9, 1849. When a small child his parents moved to Canada, to
Knoxville, Ontario, and he came to Iowa in 1866.
In 1869 he
came to Taylor and Ringgold counties, coming to the community of Lenox before
the town was there.
Except for a
year spent in Oklahoma, he spent the rest of his life in the Clearfield
community. For nearly sixteen years he
made his home with the John Mosier family southeast of Mt. Ayr.
He died
Sunday, February 7, 1932, at the age of 83 years. He is survived by one
brother, Abe Moon of Caldwell, Kansas; a half-brother and a half-sister.
Funeral
services were held at the Crew funeral home in Clearfield, Wednesday morning, Feb. 10, conducted by Rev. Hutchman of the United Presbyterian church. Interment was in the Clearfield cemetery.

Nickle,
David –
David Nickle was born in Wapello county,
Iowa, October 28, 1851, and died at his home in Bedford, February 9, 1932, aged
80 years, 4 months, and 1 day.
He came to
Ringgold county when a small boy and lived in the Maloy neighborhood until 1868, coming then to the community southeast of Clearfield .
He was
married about 1881 to Miss Belle Clark. In 1903 the family moved, to Bedford where they have
resided ever since, his wife having preceded him in
death several
years ago, since which time he and his daughter Cecil have continued to
reside there.
He is
survived by two daughters, Miss Cecil Nickle and Mrs. Maymie Cunning, and one son Reed Nickle,
of Clearfield; one brother, Elmer Nickle, of
Clearfield; one sister, Mrs. Charity Grimm of Enid, Oklahoma; 9
grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral
services were held on Thursday afternoon, February 11 at the home in Bedford.
Rev. L. C. Harris of the Christian church was in charge, and interment was in
the Clearfield cemetery.

Page, Mary J. Livingston -
Mrs. Mary
Page passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mort Hayes last Thursday. February 18, 1932, at the age of 93 years, 6 months and 6 days.
Mrs, Page was
the oldest citizen in Lenox. She had been an invalid for about three years.
Funeral
services were held at the Christian church on Sunday, February 21, at 2
o'clock. A men's quartet, composed of Leo Caskey, O.
P. Arnold, Will Bryant and Walter Lewis furnished the music. In the absence of
the pastor, the services in charge of Rev. F. L. Shepherd of the local
Methodist church .who spoke on the theme, "Faith of Our Mothers."
Burial was made in the Lenox cemetery.
Obituary
Mary J.
Livingston was the daughter of Jacob P. and Charity A. Livingston. She was born in Licking
county, Ohio, August 12, 1838, and passed away at the home of her
daughter, Mrs. Mort Hayes on February 18, 1932 at the age of 93 years, 6 months
and 6 days.
She was the
oldest of a family of seven children and was the last survivor.
While yet a
child she moved to Livingston county, Ill., with her
parents, where she grew to womanhood. She was united in marriage on September
18, 1859,
to George W.
Page. To them were born six children. Janetta Maude
and Roe Alta preceded her in death. Those who survive are Anna B. Steinkamp of Clear Lake, Iowa; Etna B. Nicholls of Orient,
Iowa, Abraham L. Page, of Ottawa, ansas, and Emma D. Hayes
of Lenox.
Mr. and Mrs.
Page came to Iowa in 1872 and located in Taylor county. Mr. Page passed away in July 1915. For the past eight years Mrs. Page made her
home with her daughter, Mrs. Mort Hayes of Lenox.
Mrs. Page
was a member of the Christian church of Lenox, and was a faithful and devout
attendant as long as she was able. She
derived her greatest pleasure from reading the Bible extensively and when she
was able to do so her peace of mind was consoled by a member of the family who
would read aloud to her. She was patient during her years of affliction and was
dear in the hearts of her grandchildren.

Quick, William W. -
Leaving a
note saying he was "too old to fight the battles of life", William W.
Quick, 70, farmer of the Blockton Community killed
himself Tuesday morning.
He was found
shot in the head with a .22 caliber rifle at his home east of Blockton.
A note,
written at 1 o'clock that morning, was left. In it he stated that he was
"hard-hearing, lonesome, and too old to fight the battles of life."
It is believed he killed himself soon after writing the note.
His wife
died in 1916. He has four children, all of them away from home. Three of them
are married and one is in school.
Quick was
well known in Bedford and over the county. Although it is reported that he was
fairly well-to-do, it is thought that financial trouble was partially
responsible for the suicide. –Bedford Times Press

Steinwinder,
Ennis B. -
Ennis B. Steinwinder, who lived in Lenox for a few months last
summer, passed away at the Veterans hospital at Kansas City last Saturday
night, February 27. Funeral services
were held at the Methodist church in Balchow, Mo.,
Monday, February 29. Four members of the local post of
the American
Legion drove to Balchow to attend the services. They
were Wm. L. Dey Ermand,
Chas. Caldwell, George Manroe and E. M. Throckmorton.
Mr. and Mrs. Steinwinder came here in July of last year and bought
the Lenox cafe. They operated it about two months when Mr. Steinwinder's health
forced them to give it up. He went from here to Excelsior Springs, where he spent
about two months, then to the Hines hospital in Chicago. He was then sent to
the government hospital in Kansas City where he underwent two operations for
the removal of a cancerous growth from his intestines. He lived but 18 days after
the last operation.
Mrs. Steinwinder is a sister of Mrs. H, C. Dougan of Lenox.

Young, J. P. -
J. P. Young,
a former Lenox man, passed away at his home at Coin, Iowa, Monday evening. He was about 62 years of age
and his death was caused by
heart trouble.
Mr. Young is a cousin of W. B. Shaw, of Lenox.
Funeral
services will be held at Coin Thursday and will be conducted by Rev. A. L.
Davidson, former Lenox minister. Burial
will be made in the Fairview cemetery at Lenox Thursday afternoon.
