Guy Baker,
58, died at his home about 7 miles southwest of Lenox early Tuesday morning
following an illness of about three weeks. Funeral services will be held at the Presbyterian church in Sharpsburg Thursday morning
at 11 o'clock and
services will be held at 2:30 at Shenandoah where burial will be made.

Baker, Guy

Guy T.
Baker, son of M. W. Baker of Norwich, Iowa, was born near Canton, Ill., April
8, 1876, and died April 17, 1934, at the age of 58 years and 8 days,
after an illness
of four weeks at his home near Sharpsburg, Iowa.
Mr. Baker
was married to Miss Gertrude S. Brewer of near Shenandoah, Iowa, December 28,
1899. To them were born three sons and three daughters, Harry
Virgil,
Walter Henry, Preston Carl,, Maggie Jane, Viola May
Chrystal Pern. One daughter Chrystal died in infancy.
The mother passed away seven years later.
On July 18,
1911, Mr. Baker was married to Miss Grace Thornton of Kansas City, Mo. and to
them were born four sons Guy Thornton, Nathan Earl, Loie
Robert, Lowel Dean. Mr. Baker is survived by his
wife and the above mentioned children.
Funeral
services were held Thursday and burial was made at Shenandoah.

Bashor, Ora Clyde -
Clyde Bashor, 40, a farmer who lived four miles east of
Sharpsburg died early Thursday morning at the hospital in Clarinda where he was
taken following
an accident at
New Market about midnight Wednesday night. Bashor,
who was an ex service man was attending a county Legion meeting at the Odd
Fellows hall in New Market. When he
started to leave the hall about midnight he tripped and fell part way down the
stairs, striking his head on the cement walk at the foot of the stairs. He was
unconscious and bleeding at the ears when he was picked up a moment later.
Bashor was taken at once to the Clarinda hospital where he died a few hours later
without regaining consciousness. His death was caused by concussion
of the brain.
He is survived by his wife and one son, Allan. Funeral services were held at Sharpsburg Sunday and were largely
attended by Legion men
from all parts
of the county.
Obituary
Ora Clyde Bashor, son of Edmund D and Mary Bashor,
was born at Rome Georgia, April 17, 1894 and passed away at the Brown hospital,
Clarinda, Iowa
May 3, 1934, at the age of 40 years and 16 days. At the age of 6 years he came with
his parents to Iowa. Later the family lived in Oklahoma for 6 years.
In September 1917 he left his Oklahoma home to
become a member of the 4th Division of the A E. F. He was overseas for 15
months and served on 6
different fronts, returning home in August 1919, being discharged with the rank of
Corporal.
After his
return he became a member of the American Legion and at the time of his death
he belonged to the Grimm-Short post of Sharpsburg.
On August
23, 1922 he was married to Miss Agnes Sundell of
Sharpsburg. To them was born one son,
Lowell Allan Bashor, Besides his wife and son he
leaves to
mourn his passing, his father, mother, brothers, Arnold and Wilber and five
sisters, Mrs. Harland Howes, Pearl, Flossie, Hazel,
and Mrs. Dale Ingram all of New Market, as well as a host of other relatives
and friends.
Funeral
services were held at the Sharpsburg Presbyterian church on Sunday, May 6th,
and burial was made at New Market.

Capps, Ash H. -
Asa H. Capps was born in Edmonson County, Kentucky, April 4, 1850. Here he spent
his boyhood days until at the age of 13, he moved with his parents to Warren
County, Ill. where he grew to young manhood. He moved into Union County Iowa in
1872 where his residence remained for 55 years until 1927
at which time he retired from his farm near Kent, Iowa, and moved into his home in
Lenox where he has resided until the time of his death.
In 1879 he was married to Miss Elizabeth Tait,
also a resident of Union County, Iowa and to them 3 children were born; two
sons, Arthur and Carleton and 1 daughter, Alta. Carleton and Alta have proceeded their father
in death.
Mr. Capps was for over 50 years a devoted member of the
Baptist church. When he moved to Lenox he became vitally interested in and a
constant supporter of the Christian church of this community. During his
residence in Lenox he won his way into the hearts and lives of a vast number of
people. He is especially loved and respected by those who have been privileged
to associate with him in his church life.
Mr. Capps had been in failing health for the past year but
took suddenly worse two weeks ago from which he seemed to partially recover,
but suffered a
relapse Monday evening and grew steadily worse. He passed away at 8:35
p. m. Monday, April 16,
1934, at the age of 84 years, 12 days.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Capps, by his
grand-daughter Marjorie who has made her home with her grandparents for years,
by his
son and family. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur L. Capps and children
Eleanor, and Wallace of Chicago and by his grandson Girard Capps of Los
Angeles, Calif.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, April 18, at
the Christian church at 2:30 conducted by Rev. L. V. Freeman. Music was
furnished by
Mrs. J. A. Porter, Mrs.
Harry Preston, O. P. Arnold and Will Bryant, with Mrs. Floyd Boltinghouse at the piano. Burial was made in the Morgan cemetery near Kent.

Minnie Caroline Wilson -
Minnie
Caroline Wilson, daughter of Jerry and Caroline Wilson, was born at Conway, la., July 22, 1881 and passed away at the Coakley hospital at Creston,
Iowa May 6,
1934, aged 52 years, 9 months and 13 days.
She was
united in marriage to J. Roy Cooper, December 24, 1902. To this union was born
one daughter, Hilda May. Their first home was the J. R. Cooper homestead east
of Conway. They afterwards moved to town
where they have resided since.
Minnie will
be greatly missed in the community. She was a leader in church and social
affairs, working untiringly for every worthy cause. She was especially active
in the Philathea class of the Methodist church and
the Order of the Eastern Star, of which she was Past Worthy Matron. Her
faithfulness
to the
organizations of which she was a member will long be remembered.
She met with
a serious automobile accident from which she never recovered. All was done that
loving hands and medical skill could do. She remained
conscious
almost to the last and realized and appreciated the effort that was being made
to save her life, when there was nothing more to be done, she passed quietly
away.
She leaves
to mourn her untimely death, her husband and daughter, Roy and Hilda, and
Hilda's husband, Hazzard Brown whose comfort and
happiness
were always her
first thought. She also leaves three
sisters Mrs. Cova Nixon of Denver, Colo. Mrs. Etta
Carter of Lenox and Mrs. Grace Haynes of Conway;
and one
brother, Bert Wilson of Arcata, Calif. Her father and mother and one sister
preceded her in death. Minnie was converted when a small child and joined the
Christian church to which she was very much devoted.
Because of
her long and useful life she is known and loved by many friends in this
community, who mourn her death and extend to her sorrowing family their
heartfelt sympathy.
Funeral
services were held Tuesday afternoon, May 8, at the Methodist church in Conway,
conducted by the Rev. Phillip Nysrand of Clearfield,
assisted
by. the Rev. E. E. Garrett of Conway. Burial was made in the
Conway cemetery.

Crail, Hattie Wade -
Mrs. Hattie Crail was born in Henry County, Illinois, March 29, 1859.
While a small girl she moved with her parents to a farm 6½ miles south east of
Lenox, which was her home til her marriage to Mr. J.
C. Wade a little over 50 years ago.
Following a
couple years residence in Pawnee Nebraska, she returned to the vicinity of
Lenox which was her home until her marriage to Mr. T. B. Crail of
Creston about 30 years ago.
At the age
of 66 Mrs. Crail became a member of the Douglas Ave.
Church of Christ, Des Moines, Iowa. About 14 years ago she went to Des Moines
and
made her home
with her son Mr. M. R. Wade. She has been practically an invalid for the past 4
years. A week ago she was taken suddenly worse and passed away at the Clarinda
State Hospital, Wednesday morning April 25 at the age of 75 years and 27 days.
She leaves
to memory her passing her son and family Mr. and Mrs. M. R. Wade and children Orlo and Edith of Des Moines.

Arthur Wayne –
Arthur Wayne
Davis, 13 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Davis of Kent, died at his home
early Monday morning following an illness of about three days. He was taken ill
Thursday night and did not become conscious before his death.
Funeral
services were held at the home Tuesday afternoon, April 24, at 1 o'clock, and
burial was made near Bridgewater.

Davis,
Arthur Wayne -
Arthur Wayne
Davis, second son of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Davis, was born near Kent on the farm
where his parents still reside, on Sept. 12, 1920, and died
April 23, 1934, at the age of 13 years, 7 months and 11 days. He attended school Wednesday, April 18, but did not go to school the
next day as he felt ill. He became unconscious Thursday night and did not
regain consciousness.
Physicians
pronounced the case encephalitis—a result of measles suffered ten days
Artie was of
a sunny disposition, singing as he worked, his greatest pleasure was in
mechanical invention, using old parts to make new machinery. He
had written the
8th grade examination and had passed with high grades. He attended the Prairie
Star Sunday school and took a keen interest in the Bible school.
Artie is
survived by his parents, one brother, Clyde, three sisters, Alice, Ione and
Leone, and his grandmother, Mrs. Anna Sullivan.

Donaldson, Mrs. Will –
Friends in
Lenox have received word this week of the death of Mrs. Will Donaldson, which
occurred at the home of her daughter Hazel at Garnett, Kansas. Mrs. Donaldson had been in failing health for
a year and was confined to her bed since last October. The Donaldsons moved
from Lenox to Garnett in 1909.

Harrison, Elizabeth Schaffer -
Miss Elizabeth Schaffer was born in Wellsville, Ohio,
December 29, 1856 and passed away April 7, 1934 at the home of her daughter,
Mrs. George Riley.
When twelve years old she moved with her parents to Adams county, Iowa where she grew to womanhood and lived the
remainder of her life. On July 4, 1876 she was united in marriage to Labon Harrison who preceded her in
the great beyond, July 2, 1923. To this
union were morn six children. Those left
to morn her loss are Mrs. William Schafroth, Mrs.
George Riley, Dale and
Edward, all of whom were at her bed side when the end came,
and who live in the immediate vicinity, except Edward who lives in Burlington
Junction, Mo; Fred, having passed away in Nov. 1916 and Labon in February 1931.
Sixteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren shared
the affections of a loving grandmother. Mother Harrison is also survived by one
brother, William Schaffer of Lenox, Iowa and one sister, Mrs. Kate Stetler of Ann Arbor, Michigan.
She accepted the teachings of the Evangelical church; was a
kind and loving mother and always had at heart the happiness and welfare of her
family and
friends.
The fate of destiny was not very kind to her the last year
of her life as it was interrupted with the loss of one grandchild and two
months in a hospital
with a fractured limb. But in spite of her misfortune and loss of dear ones she
never gave up hope in the future and that long last journey from which no
traveler ever returned.
Funeral services were held at the Stringtown church on Monday April 9th in charge of F. L. Shepherd . Music was furnished by Dale McCloud and Norma Bush. Burial was in the Lenox cemetery.

Herriott,
D. B. -
Word was received here this week through his former friends
at Bedford, of the death of D. B. Herriott who passed
away at his home in Los Angeles, Calif.
He is survived by his wife. Mr. Herriott, who was past 80 years of age, was a former Lenox
merchant, and while here lived in the house now owned by W. H. Madden. He left here more than 20 years ago.

Lee, Fillmore O. -
Fillmore O.
Lee was born June 24, 1850, in Jackson county, Iowa, and died at the home place
at Lenox, May 1, 1934, at the age of 73 years, 10 months
and 7 days.
He came to
Taylor county about 1875 and on April 4, 1877, he was
married to Miss Syntha B. Lee of Jones county, Iowa.
The wedding took place [part of paper missing] To them were born [Mrs. Christ (Roxie) Trost, and Mrs. Homer Ramsey] and Mrs. Mary Wurster of Lenox, and one son, Herbert M. Lee, who died February 13, 1919.
Mrs. Lee
passed away February 20, 1926. Besides the above mentioned children Mr. Lee is
survived by 15 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday afternoon, May 2, at the Arnold funeral home,
conducted by the Rev. Homer Caskey of Omaha. Burial was made in the Lenox cemetery.

Correction
The Time
Table has been informed there were certain errors in the obituary of Fillmore
Lee as published last week. Mr. Lee was
born in Jackson county, Iowa, June 24, 1850 and died
Monday night April 30 at the J. Wurster farm at the
age of 83 years, 10 months and 7 days. He came to Taylor county in 1875. Mr. Lee is survived by 3
daughters, Mrs. C. Trost, Mrs. J. Wurster,
and Mrs. H. Ramsey.

Reed, Claude –
Claude Reed,
25, of Corning was killed and Clyde McClelland of Creston injured in an
automobile accident on Highway 34 west of Stringtown early Monday morning. Two other Corning men, John Kennedy and Floyd
Westlake,
suffered only minor injuries.
McClelland
was taken to the Greater Community hospital at Creston where he received
treatment. He suffered broken ribs and a number of severe gashes
on his face
and head.
McClenlland was driving east on Highway 34 and Reed was going west, driving Kennedy's car,
when the accident occurred. The two cars collided about 1:30 in the morning
about a mile west of Stringtown.
McClelland
was alone. The other three were in the car driven by Reed. Reed was not killed
instantly but died before an ambulance from Corning arrived.
The three
Corning men had been in Creston and were returning home when the accident
occurred. Both cars were wrecked by the collision.
Reed's wife
and two children and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Reed of Corning survive
him.

Ridge, Sherman Tecumseh -
Sherman Tecumseh Ridge, son of Fleming and Caroline Ridge, was born
in Worth County Missouri December 17th, 1864, and died at his home in Clearfield,
Iowa on April 13th, 1934, at the age of 69 years, 3 months, and
26 davs. He attended the rural school near Blockton Iowa and grew to manhood there. On Mav 20th, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Connor of
Grant City, Missouri . They soon moved to Nebraska
City, Nebraska where they lived for five years. They returned to Blockton where they resided
for a number of years. To this union were
born two daughters, Mrs. Mary Louvre of Marshalltown, Iowa and Mrs. Anna Fiscus of Omaha, Nebraska. The mother died August 16, 1916. In the fall of 1918 Mr. Ridge came to
Clearfield where he took up draying and garden work. In September 1922 he was married to Miss
Nettie Rinker, and to this union were born four
children: Harry Sherman, Bernice, Wilma, and Robert Lee. In early life he united with the Christian
church at Pleasant Ridge, Missouri. He
was kind-hearted and ever ready to do his part by his fellowmen. While getting his team ready to go to work on
Tuesday morning, he suffered a stroke from which he never rallied. Once again a familiar face will be missed and
a familiar voice will be stilled. To
mourn his death are his widow, six children, three brothers, Ed Ridge of
Wyoming, Jesse Ridge of Gearing, Nebraska, and William Ridge of Walker, Missouri;
one sister Mrs. Louisa Ball of Blockton, Iowa, a
number of nieces and nephews and other relatives, and a host of friends.
Funeral
services were held in the Christian church Sunday afternoon, Pastor Philip Nystrand officiating with Rev. H. B. Hutchman of the United Presbyterian church assisting A quartette, Mr. and Mrs. J. Ralph Crew, Mrs J D. Barrans, and Reed Nickle sang.
Pall bearers were Frank Bye, Ray Speer, Frank
Bladon, John Wall,
Bert Huffman and Ray Klecknor. Interment was in Isadora cemetery
near Blockton.
Among those
from a distance who attended the funeral of Sherman Ridge at the Christian
church here Sunday afternoon were Mr Lawrence Ball, brother
in-law of
the deceased, whose wife was unable to come, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ridge and daughter,
Edna; Mr. and Mrs. Carl DeVault, Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Ford, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Ridge, Albert Thurman, all of Blockton.

Rose Anna Kelly –
Mrs. Rose
Anna Rupf died Tuesday, May 1, at the home of her daughter,
Mrs. Harry Cheese, where she had been for the past several weeks. She was born
June 30,
1855, and at the time of her death was aged 78 years, 10 months and 1 day.
Funeral
services will be held Friday morning at St. Patrick's church.

Mrs. Rose Rupf, daughter of Patrick and Margaret Kelly, was born June
30, 1855, near Quincy, Illinois. And died at the home of her
daughter, Mrs. Harry Cheese, Lenox, Iowa, May 1, 1934 at the age of 78 years,
10 months and 1 day.
Rupf, Rose Anna
Kelly -
Mrs. Rapf was married in Quincy, Illinois to Frank A. Rupf of Lenox, Iowa in March 1875. They then returned to Lenox where they lived
on a farm west of Lenox for many years. To them were born six children, four sons and 2 daughters. Those who survive her are Charles and
Florence of Lenox, and Zoe of Denver, Colo. There are four grandchildren, Marian, Ray and Hal Cheese of Lenox and
Lola of Des Moines. Those who preceded
her in death were her husband, two daughters, Gertrude and Vera and one son,
Ray.
About
eighteen years ago Mrs. Rupf moved to Denver, Colo.. where she lived until about
four weeks before her death.
In November
1933, Mrs. Rupf became seriously ill with pneumonia
from the effect of which she never recovered and was confined to her bed since
that time.
The funeral
was held from St. Patrick’s Catholic church in Lenox
at 9:30 a.m. May 4, 1934. The services
were conducted by the Rev. Leo Ford of Des Moines Catholic College, and the
Rev. Henry Pouget of the St. Patrick’s church, Lenox.
Interment
was made in Fairview cemetery.

Shoemaker, Noah B. -
Noah B. Shoemaker, son of Samuel and Tabitha Ford Shoemaker,
was born near La Plata, Missouri, February 26, 1856, and passed on from his
home in Cody, Wyoming, April 3, 1934, aged 78 years, 1 month and 8 days. His
parents had limited means, he was one of a family of nine children, so he left home at
the age of sixteen years and came to the Lenox Nursery where he obtained
employment. There he earned a reputation for honesty, industry
and faithfulness, and there became acquainted with Mary P. Jenks who was a member
of his employer's family and to whom he was married January 25, 1880.
He lived a year at Blanchard, returned to Lenox Nursery, and
went to Bedford in 1883; engaged principally in nursery work. In 1889 he
returned to the vicinity of Lenox, came to Lenox in 1892, and was in Lenox and
vicinity twenty years during which he was marshal and night watchman of Lenox
for about sixteen years. In 1912 he went to Omaha, Nebraska and in 1921 to
Cody, Wyoming where he resided most of the remainder of his life.
Genial, broad minded and charitable in disposition, he made
life-long friends wherever he went, and while just as a law enforcing officer
he assisted many an erring boy and girl to remain or become worthy of respect.
Four sons: Fred G. of St. Paul, Minnesota, Roy B. of Red
Oak, Ralph E. of Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin, Hal G. of Omaha, Nebraska; and
three daughters: Maud I. Trumbull of Cody, Wyoming, Gladys Uhe of Charles City, and Hazel Lovick of Boulder
Junction, Wisconsin; and one sister: Emma Ayers of La Plata, Missouri; survive
him. One daughter, Genevieve Hans in 1921, and his wife December 19, 1928,
preceded him in death.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. F, L. Shepherd at
the M. E. Church in Lenox, 2:30 p. m. April 7, and he was laid to rest by his
daughter and wife in Fairview cemetery.

Welch, Harry F. -
Harry Welch died suddenly at his home in Lenox late
Wednesday afternoon. Death was caused by heart disease. He was working about
the house when
he suddenly fell over and died before anything could be done for him... He is
survived by his wife, one son, Roy of Lenox, and a daughter who lives in North
Carolina. No funeral arrangements
have been made at this time.

Welch, Harry F. -
Harry F.
Welch eldest son of B. F. and Effie Welch was born near Atkinson, Illinois on
February 3, 1880 and passed away at his home in Lenox, Iowa on
April 11,
1934, aged 54 years, 2 months and 8 days. He was proceeded in death by his father, mother and three sisters. His boyhood and young manhood
was spent in the coal mines near Farmington. Illinois.
He was
married on April 14, 1904 to Mabel Romine. To this union were born two children
Mrs. R. L. McGee of Concord, North Carolina, and Roy F. Welch of Lenox, la.
He leaves to
mourn his going, his wife, two children, one brother, Arthur of Cape Girardean, Mo., one brother, Flayd of Davenport, la., one brother, Ray of
Moline,
Ill., one sister, Mrs. Alta Beckett of Madison, Wisc., two aunts and three
uncles, besides other relatives. He leaves a wide circle of friends.
He was a
member of the Davenport Aerie No. 235, Fraternal Order of Eagles. The Creston
Aerie sent a delegation and had charge of the services at the
cemetery.
Those present
from a distance were the brother, Arthur of Cape Girardean,
Mo., and daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. R. L. McGee of Concord, North
Carolina.
