Anderson, Elmer G. –
Mrs. Budd Moore, received a telegram Monday telling her of the death
of her brother, Elmer G. Anderson, at Los Angeles, on Sunday December 15. Funeral services were held on Tuesday at
that place and the remains are to be brought to Lenox for burial. Brief services will be held at the Barber
Funeral home Friday, December 20, immediately after the 1:25 train. Although Elmer has been gone from Lenox for a
number of years, he will be remembered by the older people as one of the Lenox
lads who grew to manhood in this vicinity. His wife and his sister, Mrs. Charles Larson, of Soap Lake, Wash., will
accompany the body to Lenox.

Anderson, Elmer
G. –
Elmer G.
Anderson was born in Downs, McLean county, Ill., March
24, 1886, and departed this life at his home in Los Angeles, Calif. on Sunday,
December 15, 1929 at the age of 43 years, 8 months and 21 days.
The first
eight years of his life was spent in Downs and Weldon, Ill. In October, 1894, he came with his father and
family to Lenox, where he entered the public schools and grew to manhood. In 1901, he and his father moved to
Maryville, Mo. where they engaged in the shoe business. On August 19, 1909 he was married to Miss
Elizabeth Griffeth, and to them were born two daughters, Anna Mary and Winnifred.
In 1910 he
moved to Creston, Iowa, and for a number of years was employed at Keith’s shoe
store. Later he took up the work of a
traveling salesman for Robert, Johnson and Rand Shoe Co. of St. Louis, and made
his home at Waterloo, Ia. He continued
with this work until about three years ago when his health began to fail. In September, 1927, he and his family, moved
to Los Angeles, Calif., in hopes that his health would be benefitted. He grew gradually weaker, however, until he
was stricken with paralysis and was bedfast for several months. He bore his pain and suffering with
remarkable patience.
Mr. Anderson
was a member of the Baptist church.
His father,
N. A. Anderson, preceded him in death, August 17, 1914, and his brother,
Charles passed away August 10, 1927 at Seattle, Wash.
He is
survived by two brothers and four sisters: Edward C, Anderson, Alburnett, Ia.; Tom
Anderson, Salt Lake City, Utah; Mrs. Hulda Larson, Soap
Lake, Wash.; Mrs. George Fogle, Jonesboro, Ark.; Mrs.
Emma Johnson, Bellingham, Wash.; Mrs. Carrie Moore, Lenox, Ia.
He is also
survived by his wife, two daughters, Anna Marie and Winnifred.
The body was
laid to rest in the Lenox cemetery. Pall bearers were friends of his boyhood
days: Earl Beadel, Harry Cheese, Roy Nelson, Clyde
Dunbar, Liffie Reynolds and Fred Abernathy.
Funeral
services were held at Los Angeles, on Tuesday December 24, and on Friday,
December 27, burial services were held at the Barber Funeral home in Lenox. Conducted by Rev. E. R. Shroud of the M.E. church.

John Bowden -
G, W. Campain, received a telegram Thursday telling of the death
of his father. Mr. Campain and his son Frank left Friday afternoon to attend the funeral which was held in
Silver Creek, Neb. Saturday.

Chandler, Mary Cordilia Brown -
Mary Cordilia, daughter of D. F. and Charlotte Brown, was born
near Brentwood, Ark., June 23, 1869 and departed this life at Loveland, Colo.,
January 2, 1930 at the age of 60 years, 6 months and 9 days.
She was
united in marriage to Thomas J. Chandler, April 16, 1893 at Brentwood, Ark. To
this union were born 10 children, nine of which survive their mother, Myrtle
Moline, having died in infancy.
The
surviving children are, Clarence, of Astoria, Ill., Fielden,
and Thomas of Lenox, Mrs. Roy Fine and Mrs. Cornelius Brown of Kent, Mrs.
Edward Plantz, and Mrs. Virgil Honeycut,
of Loveland, Colo., Mrs. Leslie Barker of Greeley, Colo. and Lloyd at home.
Mrs.
Chandler's mother died just the day before her own death, in Brentwood, Ark., the
father having died in December 1922. She is survived by her husband, the nine
children above named and 14 grandchildren, 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Her
brother, M. D. Brown of Kent, is the only member of her family now living in Iowa.
She moved
with her family to Illinois in 1907, and from there to
Iowa in 1916, residing in the city of Lenox until two years ago when they moved
to Colorado for her health. She died
after several months of suffering.
Funeral
services were conducted from the Methodist church at 2 p.m. Sunday and burial was made in
the Lenox cemetery. Rev. E. R. Shroud
conducted the services.

Crouch, Mary Ellen Carathers -
Mary Ellen Carathers, only child of James and Rachel Carathers, was born in Scott county,
Ohio, February 26, 1881. She was married in Cambridge, Ill.., August 10, 1857,
to Silas Crouch, who preceded her in death in 1897.
She came to
Ringgold county, la., in 1899 and later moved, to
Lenox where she lived for several years. Mr and Mrs. Crouch were the parents of eleven
children, Lovllla J., Frank, John, James, Benjamin,
Lester, Frederick, George and Ella, and two other children who died in infancy.
After coming
to the vicinity of Lenox, Mrs. Crouch united with the Blue Grove Christian
church.
During the
past several years she had been more or less poorly but just lately seemed to
be feeling better. Her death came suddenly at 10:30'p. m.
Monday, December 23, 1929. She had attained the age of 88 years. Besides her children,
Mrs. Crouch is survived by 38 grandchildren as well as many other near relatives

Fisher, Albert H. –
Albert H.
Fisher, son of David and Angeline Fisher was born at Vinton, Ia., June 17, 1860
and passed away at the Creston Community hospital December 13,
aged 69 years, 5
months.
At the age
of 13 he moved with his parents to Placeville,
Calif., and the following year his father died, leaving him to care for his
mother and sister Mary. Later they
returned to Iowa, living first at Vinton and later at Cedar.
His sister
passed away September 16, 1887, leaving twin girls, who were cared for by his
mother and himself, he being the only father the nieces ever knew.
Thirty-six years
ago they moved to Lenox, where they have since made their home. His mother died in October, 1920, and since
that time he has made his home with his niece, Mrs. Mollie Boulton.
He united
with the M. E. church when a young man, bringing his membership to the Lenox
church in 1894. His life has been above
reproach. He cared for his aged mother
during her declining years.
He was a
member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge in good standing for 45 years.
He leaves to
mourn his going, the two nieces, Mrs. Mollie Boulton of Clearfield, and Mrs. Mattie Reed of Sharpsburg, beside a number of other relatives.
Funeral
services were conducted by the M. E. Church Sunday at 2 p.m. by Rev. Stroud,
assisted by Rev. C. P. Carlson of Sharpsburg. Interment was in Lenox Fairview cemetery.

Groves, Emma M. -
Mrs. Harry
Groves passed away at her home in Conway Wednesday evening, after several weeks illness. Funeral services were held at the Conway
church Sunday afternoon and interment made in the Conway cemetery. Her husband
and daughter
have the sympathy of Conway and community.

Hull, O. E. –
O E. Hull,
for the past 44 years publisher of the Leon Reporter,
died Saturday at the hospital m Creston where he had been for the past month.
Mr. Hull was 64 years of age. He has been secretary of the Iowa Press
Association for many years and was well known among newspaper men throughout
the state. Funeral services were held at Leon, Tuesday.

Kilgore, Rachel Jane Atkin –
Rachel Jane Atkin, daughter of Charles B. and Nancy J. Atkin, was born near Lone Tree, Iowa, on February 18th,
1878, being the oldest of the family of eleven children, and died on December 6th,
1919 at the Greater Community Hospital, Creston, Iowa, after an illness of
three weeks, although she had been in
ill health for several years. Her age
was fifty-one years, nine months and twenty three days.
When a small
child her parents moved to Lenox, Iowa where she grew to womanhood, and was
united in marriage to John Samuel Kilgore, on March 23, 1899, and with the
exception of two years spent in Oklahoma, the remainder of her married life was
spent in Clearfield, Lenox, Cromwell and Diagonal until a few months ago when
she moved with her husband and family to a farm near Kellerton.
She was the
mother of nine children, one son, Harry Wayne, preceding her in death. She is survived by her husband John S.
Kilgore, five sons and three daughters, Zenas R.
Kilgore, Charles J. and Mrs. Lois M. Brown of Diagonal, Marl V.; Eunice Edna,
Paul R., Mildred L., and Harold M. at home near Kellerton,
one granddaughter and four grandsons, an aged mother residing in Iona, Idaho,
three brothers and three sisters, three sisters and one brother preceding her
in death.
When a child
she united with the Christian church and from that day she lived a devoted and
true Christian life. For the past several years she has not enjoyed good health
yet she said little and continued her motherly devotion. She was a true wife
and mother.
Services
were held at the Christian church in Diagonal at 11 a. m., Sunday December 8 and
interment in the family lot at Harmony cemetery. .
Those from
Lenox and vicinity who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Stoakes and son, Mr and Mrs.
Charlie Atkins, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Stoakes, Mr. and
Mrs. Cleo Stoakes, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Ferguson and
sons, George and Tom.

Leedom,
Esther Bybee -
Mrs. Harry Leedom, who formerly lived six miles west of Lenox, where
her husband was employed by Lonnie Hunter for seven years, died at her home
Friday, December 17, at Stahl, Mo., at the age of 32 years.
Mrs. Leedom was burned some time ago when she fell on a stove. She suffered much since her accident and neighbors had done all possible
to lighten her suffering. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Bybee, of near Novlnger. She is survived by her husband, three
children, parents, one sister
and one brother. The
funeral was Sunday.

Manroe,
J. Ray -
Word was
received late Tuesday of the death of Ray Manroe in
the hospital at Brush, Colo. following and operation about ten days ago. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Manroe and was born and raised here. His twin brother, Jay, died in 1918 while in
the service, Ray being in the service overseas at the time of Jay’s death. He leaves a wife and three small
children. Geo. Manroe left Tuesday evening for Brush, Colo. to attend the funeral.

J. Ray
Monroe, son of John W. and Frances J. Monroe, was born in Lenox, June 20, 1891
and died at the hospital in Brush. Colo., December 10, 1929, aged 38 years, 5
months, and 20 days.
He was one
of twin boys; the other, Alvin Jay, having passed away at Camp Dodge, la., June 14, 1918. The boys grew up in Lenox but at the age
of 18 Ray went to Colorado with his aunt, Mrs. A Ely, and helped on the ranch
at Gary for a number of years.
He enlisted
in the army on March29, 1911, and was on his way to France at the time of the
brother's death. He was honorably discharged from the army June 3, 1919. On September 10,1919,
he was married to Laurene Peterson and to this union
were born three children; two boys, Raymond Wm. and
Francis Jay, and a daughter, Helen Marie.
Ray was a
charter member of the Sagebrush Post No. 68, American Legion, at Brush, Colo.
He is
survived by his wife, two sons and one daughter, his mother, Mrs. Frances J.
Monroe; a brother, George H. Monroe, both of Lenox, three sisters, Clara and
Estella Monroe of Des Moines and Mrs Marybelle Finn and niece, Martha Jean Finn of Clearfield.
George
Monroe and the two sisters, Clara and Estella of Des Moines went to Brush and
attended the funeral services. The Sagebrush Post of the American Legion, No. 68,
of Brush, took charge of the funeral arrangements and a
military funeral was held on Friday, December 13, which was attended by a large number
of people who had known and respected him.

Meehan, John Henry –
Mrs. Roy Nelson, left Sunday for Quincy, Ill., having received word
of the death of her uncle, John Meehan. Mr. Meehan had been in poor health for some time. The body was brought to Lenox Tuesday evening, and the funeral was
held Wednesday morning at the Catholic church. Jennie Meehan of Norbor, Mo., niece of Mr.
Meehan, also accompanied Mrs. Nelson back with the body.

Meehan, John
Henry –
John Henry Meehan, died Sunday morning December 15, 1929 at St.
Vincent’s Home, Quincy, Ill. at the age of 82 years, 7 months and 7 days. He was born at Roscommon, Ireland, on May 8,
1837. He came to New Jersey in the fall
of 1853and 2 years later he came to Illinois, and resided with his parents in
the vicinity of Peoria, Ill. After he
reached manhood, he attending business college at
Quincy, Ill. Later, entering the business world, he engaged in the mercantile
business at Norborne, Mo., where his brother Edgar was also engaged in
business. After a number of years in
business there, he went west, and for many years made his home near Menatehee, Wash., near another brother, McCormick, who a
number of years ago was a resident of the vicinity of
Lenox.
Mr. Meehan
made many extended visits here to visit his sister, Mrs. Delia Connor, and at
one time made his home with his nephew, John H. Connor, for more than two years
before making his home at St. Vincent’s, where the funeral services were held
in the beautiful chapel, Tuesday morning at 9 o’clock, conducted by Rev. Chas. Krekenburg, chaplain.
He was
better known to his many friends here as “Uncle John” and was highly respected
by all who knew him. He was the last
member of his immediate family, and is survived by a large number of devoted
nephews and nieces. The body arrived in
Lenox, Tuesday evening, and was taken the home of his niece, Mrs. Roy
Nelson. Short services conducted by Rev. Pouget, were held at St. Patrick’s Catholic church
Wednesday morning at 11 o’clock. Interment was made in Fairview cemetery.

Martha Louise Williams -
Mrs. Louise Parkins died here [Clearfield]on Friday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Seth Fosmire,
after and illness of a few weeks. She
had not been well for several years, but was able to be up and out part of the
time, until the past few weeks. She was
about seventy-three years of age and came to Clearfield with her husband in the
early eighties. Funeral services were
held Sunday afternoon at 1:30 at the Christian church. Rev. Roy Weakland officiated. Interment
in Clearfield cemetery. She
leaves to mourn her loss, two daughters, Mrs. Seth Fosmire of Clearfield and Mrs.
Minnie Dowell of Hemingford, Neb., four sons, Frank of Clearfield, George of
Hemingford, William of Jackson, Minn.; and Floyd of New England N.D. She was one of the oldest residents here.

Peterson Baby –
Word was
received Tuesday, December 31, by relatives at Lenox, by the death of Mr. and
Mrs. Ernest Peterson’s baby, who live at Elgin, Neb. The baby was sick but a short time with
pneumonia. Mrs. Peterson will be
remembered at Nellie Butler, daughter of John Butler of Lenox. Clarence Butler and Mrs. Charles Hewitt,
brother and sister of Mrs. Peterson left Tuesday to attend the funeral.

Rosenberger, Peter -
Peter
Rosenberger, a resident of Lenox for the past year, died at his home Sunday afternoon.
He had been an invalid for years. Funeral services will be held Thursday
morning at St. Patrick's church. Burial

Peter
Rosenberger was born near Gridley, Ill. June 7, 1872 and died at his home in
Lenox, Sunday, December 22, at the age of 57 years.
When a small boy he moved to Chetsworth,
Ill. and was engaged in
farming there until 1915 when he moved to Wesley, Iowa, where he lived until
1917 when he moved to a farm southwest of Sharpsburg. He lived there until his health failed and he
had to give up farming. He then moved to
Lenox.
Mr. Rosenberger was a member of the Catholic church. Funeral services were held at the Catholic church Thursday morning, December 26 and the body was
shipped to Chatsworth, Ill. for burial.
He is survived by four brothers and three sisters, Conrad,
of Pontiac, Ill.; Michael of Chatsworth, Ill.; Joseph of Corwith,
Iowa; John of Calvin, N. D.; Christiana of Corwith,
Ia.; Rosina and Caroline of Lenox.

Smith, Melvina Elizabeth Bullard –
Mrs. Melvina Elizabeth Smith died at her home here Saturday,
December 7, following an illness of about three years. She was 78 years, 3 months and 5 days age.
Funeral
services were held at the Methodist church Tuesday December 10,at 2 o’clock, conducted by Rev. E. R. Shroud, and interment
was made in Lenox cemetery.
Melvina Elizabeth Bullard was born near Yates City, Knox county,
Ill. September 2, 1851. She was married
to John A. Smith, January 1, 1867 at Yates City, where they made their home for
two years. From Yates City, they moved
to Hartford, Iowa, where they lived until 1875 when they moved to Creston. After living in Creston for one year they
moved to the home two miles northeast of Lenox where they resided until eleven
years ago when failing health forced them to sell the farm and make their home
in Lenox. Mrs. Smith joined the church
some forty years ago and was a faithful member. She was a member of the W. R. C.
There were
born to Mr. and Mrs. Smith eleven children, of whom four, Helena, Emma, Charley
and John, have preceded their mother in death. Mr. Smith passed away six years ago.
Mrs. Smith
is survived by the following children: Bert Smith of Monango,
N. D.;Mrs. Sadie Joseph of
Hecla, S. D.; Mrs. Mamie Murray of Merricourt, N. D.;
Mrs. Effie Murray of Bolivar, Mo.; Earl and Alpha Smith of Lenox; Lloyd Smith
of Sheldon, Wisc.

Clarence W. –
A clipping from a Seattle, Wash. sent to us by Mrs. E. M. Lourie of Clearfield, tells us of the death of Rev. Dr. Clarence W. Weyer at Duluth, Minn. The clipping dated at Duluth follows:
Duluth,
Minn., Monday, December 16. The Rev. Dr.
Clarence W. Weyer, pastor of the First Presbyterian
church here, and for fifteen years the pastor of the First Presbyterian church
at Tacoma, Wash., died suddenly at his home here this morning. Dr. Weyer came to
Duluth last summer.
He was 54
years old and survived by his widow and eleven children.
Rev. Weyer was once pastor of the Presbyterian church in Lenox and
married a Lenox girl, Miss Inez Fees.

Wood, Zella Hale McCreight –
Mrs E. H. Wood
of Clarinda, better known to this community as Mrs. E. P. McCreight,
died at her home Thursday at the age of 84 years, 2 months and 21 days. Funeral
services were held at the U. P. church in Clarinda, Saturday, and
were conducted
by Rev. Pearson. Burial was made at that place,
Zella Hale was
born at Winfield, Iowa, September 14, 1855. She was married October 13, 1874 to
E. P. McCreight and four children were born,
Clarence, of Sterling, Kan., Elmer, of Clearfield, Orville, of Clarinda and
Rev. Lloyd McCreight of New Concord, Ohio.
Mr. McCreight died May 17, 1901 and about 12 years ago Mrs. McCreight married E. H. Wood, who died shortly after. Mrs.
Wood was a lifelong member of the U. P. church.
All the
children except Clarence were able to attend the funeral.
