Adams, B. F. -
B. F. Adams,
95, of Gravity, passed away Saturday evening at his home after a long
illness. He leaves two daughters, Mrs.
Grace Hipsley and Ethel of Gravity, and three sons, Elmer
of Bedford, Lloyd and Les of Gravity, also a step-daughter, Mrs. Emma Middleton
of San Antonia, Tex. Funeral services
were held Wednesday afternoon at New Market.

Jacob H. Bennison, 87, associated with the insurance and real estate
firm of Bennison and Dean and a Kewanee, Ill.
businessman and banker for many years, died at his home, 725 Henry St., at 6:50 a.m.,
Tuesday, December 26th,
following a heart attack Friday. Despite his age, Mr Bennison’s health was remarkably good and he continued active in business
until he was stricken.
He was born
March 5, 1862 in Howland Flats, Grass Valley, California, son of Henry and
Hannah Hatress Bennison, He came to Kewanee
with his parents when he was four years old. In those days there were no railroads west of Omaha and
he came to
Kewanee by ship to Panama, by train across the Isthmus of Panama (before the
canal was built), by ship to New
York and by
train to Kewanee
The first
family home was on West Fifth street, where Mr. Bennison lived until several years after his marriage. He
attended the North Brick school, where the Franklin
school is now located, and later the old academy.
Completing
his schooling, Mr Bennison worked for the Haxtun Steam Heater company and then
entered the bakery
and grocery
business with Elijah Faull, after purchasing the Vienna bakery from his
brother-in-law, H. R. Walton. Mr.
Bennison was later in the dry good and shoe business with his brother, Walter S. Bennison.
In 1898 he
moved to Lenox Iowa, where he and his brother organized the First National Bank
of Lenox. They disposed
of their
interests there in 1910. In 1912, Mr. Bennison returned to Kewanee to take the presidency of the Union State Savings Bank and
Trust Company, a position which he held until 1924. Later, he purchased the
real estate and insurance business of S. E. Robb. A number of years ago
Clifford Dean became a partner with Mr. Bennison in
the firm.
On April 9,
1884, Mr. Bennison was married to Miss Lennie A. M. Johns at Hazel Green, Wisconsin. Her father
and his father had gone from Wisconsin to California during the gold rush to
enter mining in the west.
Mr. Bennison is survived by his wife and three children, Henry
P. Bennison, Kewanee, Mrs. Jane Bennison Flint, Sioux
Falls, S. Dak., and Mrs. Eimer E. Anderson,
Erie, Ill.; five grandchildren, Mrs. Virginia Bennison,
Jacob Bennison, Robert
J. Flint,
Richard Flint, Mrs. Mary Anderson Grace, and Norruth B. Anderson; and nine great grandchildren.
He was the
last of his family. Three brothers and one sister are dead.
He was a
member of the First Congregational church and was formerly affiliated with
Masonic Orders and the Shrine. He
was a charter member
of the Rotary club at Kewanee and at one time served on the school board.
The funeral
service was held at Cavanaugh and Schueneman Funeral
Home, Thursday, at 2:30 p. m. Rev. Charles Hoskinson,
pastor of the Congregational church, officiated. Burial was in Pleasant View
cemetery. Friends were permitted to call at the Funeral Home Wednesday evening.
The family requested that flowers be omitted, but friends could contribute to a
Kewanee Public hospital fund in his memory.

Reynolds received a telephone communication on Thursday informing her of the
death of her brother, Otto
Bethke, 61, at Edgeley, N. Dak. Death was sudden and unexpected.

Funeral
services were held Monday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Arnold Funeral Home for Walter Thomas Butler, 81
who passed away
Saturday at the Armstrong Nursing Home in Bedford. Rev. Myron Hayes of the
Creston Methodist church officiated, with interment in Fairview cemetery. Music
was furnished by Rolland Buxton with Mrs. Norma Paymal at the piano. Pallbearers were Hal Dean, Kenneth and Robert Morris, Darrell
Reynolds, Jack Butler and Joe Elliott,
Obituary
Walter
Thomas Butler, and his twin brother Edwin were the youngest of a family of four
girls and four boys born to Thomas and Rachael Butler on Aug. 11, 1869 in Platte township,
Union county, and died Jan. 13, 1951 at the age of 81 years, 5 months and 2
days at Armstrong Nursing Home, Bedford, Iowa.
As a child
he united with the Presbyterian Prairie Star church. As he moved he took his
church letter with him to Lenox, back to Prairie Star, later to the Methodist
Church in Creston where his membership remained at the time of his death.
On October
3, 1894 he was married to Nellie Roberts and settled on the Butler homestead,
Platte township, Union county. To their union while
they were in Platte township were born 3 children:
Bernice, Helen, and Edwin. Bernice Bush who preceded him in death Feb. 16, 1925, Mrs. Claude (Helen) Morris and Edwin, both now
reside on farms near Lenox.
In the year
1906 he sold the homestead and moved to Lenox, residing there one year while
preparing the newly improved farm east of Lenox where he moved June 1907, and
remained there until 1919 when he moved to Platte township,
Union county on the farm his son now occupies. He left this farm in 1922 to a residence close where he was a great help
to his son on stock shares with him until he deemed it best to get away from so
much hard work and in the summer of 1926 he built a new house on Myrtle Street
in Creston where he and his wife spent many happy years together. At this place they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. On May 22, 1938 his
beloved wife departed this life. At this
time Walter broke up the home and made his home with his son and daughter until
September 1950 when his health failed making in necessary to be taken to the
Armstrong Nursing Home where he remained until the time of his death.
He was the
last of his family, his twin preceded him in death Aug, 1872, Also his sisters, Rachel L. Butler, Ann Jean
Hewitt, Mary Robinson and Lizzie Butler, and brothers William and John preceded him in
death.
He leaves to
mourn his death, his daughter Helen and husband Claude, his son Edwin and wife
Hazel, five grandchildren, Kenneth, Hal Dean and Robert Morris, Marjorie
Reynolds and Jack Butler, four great grandchildren and a host of other
relatives and friends.
He was a most
loving father and good provider, a good man whose deeds will long be
remembered.

Lewis Coy
suffered a stroke Monday evening and passed away Thursday evening. Funeral services were held Sunday at 2
p.m. Burial was in Gravity cemetery. He
leaves his wife and three children, Mrs. Judson Beemer and Earl Coy of Gravity
and Nolan Coy of Buffalo, Wyo., and five grandchildren.
Lewis
Ashford Coy, son of John and Margaret Coy was born December 7, 1876 and passed
away February 15, 1951 at Gravity. He was born and lived his entire live in
Taylor County. His mother passed away
when he was two and one half years old. He then made his home with an uncle and aunt, Seth Savage.
He was
united in marriage December 29, 1897 to Annie Bell Savage. To this union were born four children, Ferne Beemer and Earl of Gravity, Nolan of Buffalo, Wyo.
and Coryl Elizabeth who died in infancy.
When a small
boy he united with the Christian church and later moved his membership to the
Methodist church. He had been an active
member in the Masonic lodge for 32 years, always taking a great interest in the
work.
He was
preceded in death by his daughter, father and mother, one sister and one brother. He leaves his wife, three children, nine
great grandchildren, two sisters, Flossie Godfrey and Pansy Waller of Pamona, Calif., and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral
services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at the Methodist church at
Gravity, conducted by Rev. Weber of Beaconsfield assisted by Rev. Moody. Music was furnished by Mrs. Claude Gray and
Gordon Hill. Pallbearers were Paul
Morris, Harold Dowell, Wayne Lovitt, Glen Lock,
Kenneth Meyers and Elvin Beemer. Flower
girls were Mrs. Elvin Beemer, Mrs. Wayne Lovitt, and
Mrs. Maynard Stodgill. Burial was in Gravity cemetery.

old son, Charles Vernon of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Henderson, passed away Saturday
at 6:30 P. M. at the

Henderson, Charles Vernon -
The 3 year
old son, Charles Vernon of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Henderson, passed away Saturday

Many Time
Table readers will recall the Howard family who had a racket store in the
Meagher building in 1918 when
their twin sons
were born. Mrs. Howard was born Kizzie Garner in
Taylor county, Iowa on May, 1863. She attended
school at Bedford and later taught in the county.
The Howards
moved to Idaho from Lenox, then to Garfield, Wash., and later made their home
at Spokane.
Mrs. Howard was
a member of the Methodist church, Gold Star Mothers, Elder Bloom Club, the Iowa
Society, and
other organizations, where she was a capable worker.
The oldest
son, Fred, was killed on a battle field in France in the First World War, a
small son, Avery, passed away
many years ago,
and more recently, a daughter, Dorothy Smith, a talented pipe organist and
pianist. Mr. Howard died a
few years ago,
and the constant care she gave him shortened the life of this outstanding wife
and mother.
A daughter,
Eula Durkee, lives in Spokane, as does a son, Byron;
his twin brother died in infancy and was buried in Lenox.
Mrs. Howard
was laid to rest beside her husband and three children at Garfield, Wash.

J. T. McLaury, 70, retired farmer of the Clearfield vicinity,
died at the Armstrong Nursing Home at Bedford at noon
Tuesday. He was a lifelong resident of the Clearfield community. Funeral services will
be held at the Methodist church in
Clearfield
at 2 p, m. Thursday Rev. C. E. McPherson will officiate. Burial will be in the
Clearfield cemetery.
Surviving
are his widow; two sons, Merritt of Kansas City, Mo., and Clifford of Lenox;
and three daughters, Mrs. Gladys Cole of Nebraska City, Neb., Mrs. Ruth Crisp
of Des Moines, and Mrs. Hazel Robinson of Clearfield. A son, Glenn, preceded
him in death.

McLaury,
James T. -
James T. McLaury, son of George and Ellen McLaury was born near Clearfield, Iowa, on April 17, 1880 and died at the
Armstrong Nursing Home in Bedford. Jan. 23, 1951
at the age of 70 years.
He was
united in marriage on Feb. 7, 1900 to Miss Anna Coe of Clearfield. They lived
in and near Clearfield during the 51 years of wedded life, farming for 23
years. To this union were born three sons and three daughters: Clifford of Lenox, Merritt of Kansas City, Glen
who died in 1940, Hazel Robinson of Clearfield, Gladys Cole of Nebraska City,
Neb. and R.uth Crest of Des Moines.
Besides his
wife and children to cherish his memory are 22 grandchildren and seven great
grandchildren; also two brothers, George F. of Bedford and Roy of Canada.
Funeral
services were held in the Methodist Church in Clearfield January 25 with burial
in the Clearfield cemetery.

Mrs. Wm. Hofmeister received word Thursday of the death of her
sister-in-law, Mrs. Ralph McLaury at a hospital in
St.
Joseph, Mo.
Mrs. McLaury is survived by her husband, Ralph K.,
two sons, Ralph of St. Joseph and Norman of Boulder,
Colo., one
daughter, Ethel Baker of San Diego, Calif. Funeral services were held Saturday
at the Heaton-Bowman Chapel
Burial was
in Memorial Park cemetery. Mr. McLaury is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. G. F. McLaury of Bedford, who for many
years lived with
their family in Clearfield.

Mrs. Lillie Menoher received word Friday from Lincoln, Neb. that her
brother-in-law, D. F. Menoher, had passed away
there that same
morning. He was 88 years of age at the time of death. Funeral services were
held Monday in Lincoln with
interment in Pleasant View cemetery there beside his wife, who preceded him in death just
eight months ago.
Surviving
are two daughters Ruth Menoher, who cared for her
parents in their declining years, and Mrs. Grace Bollieu
of Cedar
Falls, three grandchildren and other relatives and friends. Mr. Menoher had lived in Taylor county for many
years, and had
many friends here.

Clearfield
has learned of the death of a former resident, Lottie N. Moler on Jan. 8 in Palm City, Calif. Lottie N. Ouderkirk was born Sept. 24, 1899 at Benton, Iowa and
died Jan. 8, 1951 at the age of 51 years.
She was
united in marriage to Charles J. Moler, Nov. 17,
1918. To this union were born three daughters, Neoma who died in infancy. Stella (Mrs. R C Rudolph) and Pearl (Mrs A Reinert) both of San Diego, Calif.
She was a
member of the Assembly of God church and led a constant Christian life.
The family were Iowa residents until 1943 when they moved to
California.
Besides the
husband and two daughters to cherish her memory are three grandchildren, two
brothers, Chas. Ouderkirk,
Portland,
Ore., and Lester Ouderkirk of Kansas City, Mo.: three
sisters, Stella Stoneberger, Kansas City. Kans.. Jenny Perry, St. Joseph, Mo. and
Geneva Sylvia, Orlando, Fla.
She was the
niece of Herman Brown and Mrs. Nettie Calkins of Clearfield.
Funeral
services were held Jan. 13 in Palm City. Burial was in Glenn Abbey Memorial
Park at Chula Vista, Calif.

One of
Iowa's first drownings in 1951 occurred near
Clarinda, Jan. 15 when seven year old Richard Powers drowned in a
creek near the
family home. The first indication of the
tragedy came when the boy's school books and papers were
seen floating
down the stream.

Alice
Elizabeth Rutledge, daughter of Wm. and Louisa Rutledge was born December 21,
1862 in Perry county, Ohio and passed away at the age
of 88 years, 1 month and 29 days. At the
age of two years she moved with her parents to Taylor county,
Iowa where she resided until the time of her death.
She is
survived by one sister, Mrs. Kate Jones of Conway, who is ill in the Methodist
hospital in Omaha and unable to be here at this time; three brothers, Abe and
Ed of Sharpsburg, and Tom of Twins Falls, Idaho; also a number of nieces and
nephews and a host of friends.
She was a
charter member of the Sharpsburg Methodist church and of the Ladies Aid
Society, remaining a faithful member in both as long as her health permitted.
She had been
in failing health for several years, but was cheerful to the last.

George F. Shaughnessy, 75, of Long Beach California passed away at his home February
5. He was born in Sigourney, Iowa but
spent his early life in Lenox. He had
lived in Long Beach for 23 years. He is
survived by his wife and two daughters.

Leslie Slack
passed away at his home east of town [Gravity] Wednesday evening at 7
o’clock. He leaves his wife, one
daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Barker and husband and also one grandson, Kennard
Barker. Funeral services were held Sunday
at the Whitmore Funeral Home. Burial was
at Gravity with Masonic service,

William
Henry Wagner, son of Samuel and Cora Wagner was born in Gravity, Iowa February
12, 1889 and passed away January 25, 1951 at Bedford at the age of 61 years, 11
months and 13 days. He was of a family
of four children. There are left to
mourn his passing Mrs. Jack Gartrell, Luck, Wyo.,
Mrs. John Cooper, New Market, and Charles Wagner, Denver, Colo., also a half
brother Roy Wagner and half sister, Mrs. Margery Taylor, both of Fort Collins,
Colo. A half brother, Lloyd Wagner was
killed in action in World War II.
Mr. Wagner
served his county in the 42nd Division of the Army in World War I.
Nearly all
his life was spent in Gravity. He was a
kind-hearted, sympathetic man, ever ready to given his assistance to anyone who
might need his services.
Funeral
services were conducted by Rev. Bertha Brown, assisted by Rev. James Moody at
the Methodist Church in Gravity, January 28, at 2 p.m.
Music was
furnished by Gordon Hill with Mrs. Claude Gray at the piano. Pall bearers were
Will Fulton, Charles Alvord, Chancey Moore, John H. Alexander, David
Hinton and Elza Blake. Interment in Ladoga
cemetery with the American Legion conducting military rites.

Eggert Wiese of Atlantic passed away of a heart attack while participating in a trap
shoot at Griswold last week. He had shot
at four targets and had just called for his fifth and last bird, when he
collapsed. Death came almost instantly.
