Phyllis
Beck, 29, died at the home of her parents, Mr and Mrs Charles Beck, at Sharpsburg, Thursday, 10:30 p.m.,
after an illness of about three months.
Services
were at the Methodist church in Lenox Sunday, July l5, at 3:30 p.m., with the
minister, the Rev. Burton C. Collier officiating. Burial was in the Fairview
cemetery at Lenox.
Phyllis
Arlene Beck, daughter of Charles W Beck and Mildred
Herbst Beck was born near Sharpsburg, Iowa March 31, 1927.
She
leaves to mourn her passing, her parents, one brother, Roy and his wife
Darlene; two nephews and one niece and a host of other relatives and friends.
One nephew preceded her in death in 1945.
Phyllis
was a member of the neighborhood Happy Hour Club, of the Woman's Society of
Christian Service of The Methodist Church, and of the Lenox Methodist church,
having united with the Methodist Church in Sharpsburg while a young girl.
At the
age of 3 and one-half years she suffered a severe illness
from which she never fully recovered. On April 9 of this year she again became sick
with what proved to be her final illness. Two weeks of these last fourteen were spent in the Municipal Hospital in
Clarinda. Death came at her home at 10:30 p. m. July 12, 1956 at the
age of 29
years, 3 months and 12 days.

David Arthur -
David
A. Bennett, 57, widely known Lenox business man, died Monday morning at 4:15 at
his home here. He had virus infection
the past week and suffered a coronary expiration. His death came as a shook to
family and friends because he had not been considered seriously ill.
Funeral
services were Wednesday, June 27, at the Lenox Methodist church with the Rev.
B. C. Collier officiating. Burial was in the Lenox cemetery.
Mr Bennett and his son Roy have manufactured farm equipment
here since the spring of 1946. Under the name of Bennett Manufacturing and Repair
shop, they produced gear for tractors,
a cornstalk pulverizer and a disc transport. Their
latest invention
is a live hydraulic pump for tractors.
The
firm has had government contracts and has employed a
number of men, having one of the largest payrolls in Lenox.
OBITUARY
David Arthur
Bennett, the son of George D. Bennett and Alice
Jackson
Bennett was born November 28, 1898 on a farm in
Platte
Township, near Lenox, Iowa.
On
December 29, 1920, he was united in marriage to Bessie
Baker
of Clearfield. To this union were born three sons and
one daughter. They are: Roy, of Lenox; Arthur, of Waterloo,
Alice
(Mrs L. L. Siverly) of
Clearfield, and Paul, of Lenox.
His
early life was spent on the farm. He moved to Lenox in 1947
after opening a machine shop and manufacturing company with his son, Roy, Paul
continuing on his father's farm.
He was
a member of the Methodist Church, having joined the
Calvary
Methodist Church at the age of 12, transferring to Lenox when he moved in 1947. At the time of his death he was serving as a member of the Official Board, and
at other times has served his church, and community as a Sunday School teacher, as a member of Rotary, and as President of
the Platte Township School Board. Of an
inventive nature, he introduced several new adaptations in farm
machinery.
His
father and mother, and one granddaughter have preceded
him in death. Left to remember him are his wife and their four children; nine
grandchildren; two sisters, Flora and Marie of Lenox; one brother, Donald, of
Clearfield; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Following
a short illness death came at his home on June 25, 1956 at the age of 57 years,
6 months and 27 days.

Bliss. 85, father of Mrs Ivan Bennett. Burial was in
Diagonal cemetery. Two sons: Rex and Max Bliss and another daughter Mary Ellen
Steele, survive.

2 brothers, Otis and Guy, also a sister, Mrs Orie McKay, all of Sharpsburg.
The
Funeral was at the Shum Funeral Home in Bedford Wednesday
with the Rev Clyde Johnson and George Waters officiating.
Burial was
in Conway cemetery

Chas
J. Cason, Conway, was drowned shortly before noon, Sunday, in a farm pond about
200 years from his farm home. He was a
junior in the Clearfield high school. The Casons live 9 miles south and ¼ mile east
of Lenox. He and his two brothers were
swimming in the pond. It is believed he
stepped into a deep hole in the shallow water. The body was in the water about 30 minutes before being recovered.
Fire
Chief George Grey and Fireman Virgil Brown of Lenox were called to the scene of
the accident with the fire truck respirator. A doctor and the Taylor County Coroner were present but all efforts
failed to revive the youth.

his father and mother, three brothers and two sisters.

Crouch,
Mary Fae Casey Riley “Fae”

Mrs.
Frank Crouch of Kent was killed instantly in a highway accident Saturday morning
on Highway 25 six miles northeast of Lenox. She was driving north alone in a 1952 pickup truck about 10:30 am.
Deputy
Sheriff M L Cade of Taylor County and Highway Patrolman Cletus C. Stangl of Creston investigated the accident.
The
accident occurred one fourth mile south of the Four County tree and about two
miles south of Mrs. Crouch’s home.
It was
reported that the gravel had been pulled in from the edge of the road to a long
row about two feet east of the center. Mrs. Crouch had been driving on the left or west side and evidently
pulled across the row of gravel to the east track. Her speed was estimated at 40 mph. The truck turned over once, went over a
twenty foot embankment on the Edwin Butler farm, and landed on the cab
top. The body was found clear of the cab
and under the body of the truck.
Ora Grace of Clearfield was driving north on the road at about the same time. He saw and reported the accident.
Mrs.
Crouch was 60 years old. She leaves her
husband, Frank, a daughter, Miss Darlene Riley of Des Moines, a sister Mrs. Roy
Riley of Creston and a brother, Cliff Casey of near Corning.
Funeral
services were Monday afternoon at the Bender Funeral Home in Lenox, the Rev.
Homer Caskey of Council Bluffs officiating. Burial was in the Lenox Cemetery.
Mary Fae Casey, daughter of Adella and
Franklin Casey was born July 12, 1896, on a farm near Mercer Center and met her
untimely death near Lenox, August 25, 1956, at the age of 60 years, 1 month,
and 13 days.
She
was united in marriage to Ralph Riley at the family home. Two children were
born to this union. A daughter, Darlene Riley of Des Moines,
Iowa, and a son, Delbert, who died in infancy.
In
September of 1931, Fae was united in marriage to
Frank M. Crouch of Lenox and to this union a daughter, Donna Mae was born. She
also passed away in infancy and was laid to rest near Frazee, Minn., at which
place the family was making their home.
Later
they returned to Iowa and established their home on a farm in the vicinity of
Kent.
Fae was preceded in death by her father, mother and one brother, Clifford Casey of
Corning and several nieces and nephews.
Fae confessed her faith in her Saviour when a small girl
during meetings in the Mercer Center Church. She will be remembered
as an untiring worker, always with the welfare of her family and loved ones being
uppermost in her mind.
Funeral
services were Monday afternoon at 2 P. M. at the Bender

Home at Lenox, Rev. Homer Caskey of Council Bluffs
officiating. Mrs. Raymond Riley and Leo Caskey furnished
the music, Mrs. John Hettinger at the piano.

Eberle, Katheryn Marie Wurster “Kate” –
Mrs.
Kate Eberle, 78, died at 7:10 Wednesday afternoon at
Victorville, California at the home of her daughter, Mrs. James McIntyre after
an extended illness. She was born in
Lenox and lived here most of her life.
Katheryn Marie Wurster, the eldest of Christopher and Marie Wurster was born in Lenox, Ia. April 20, 1878.
She
was married to Christian Frederick Eberle in March
1902. To this union seven children were
born. Her husband and youngest son,
Frank preceded her in death.
Surviving
are her four daughters, Regina, Leah, Georgia and Wilma and twin sons Karl and
Kenneth, also her sisters, Mrs. Sam Haering and Mrs.
Lenz Stammets and her brother Fred Wurster, all of Lenox and Geo Wurster of Roundup, Mont.
She
spent all her life in Lenox, except the several years she spent in California
where she passed away July 25, 1956 at the home of her daughter.
Funeral
services were Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Bender Funeral Home here with the Rev.
James Eddy officiating. Burial was in
the Lenox Cemetery. The body arrived in
Creston Saturday morning.

Graham, 82, a former resident of Clearfield, died at his
home in Diagonal Saturday, July 14. He is survived by his wife. Maggie; 4 sons, Paul

Monday.

Elsie Bubb with her sister and brother-in-law Mr and Mrs Cedric
Sellers
and cousins Mr and Mrs Leonard Rogge and Walter Lage of Davenport attended
the funeral of a stster Mrs Beulah Hicks 58 of Hastings, Nebr. on Tues. morning May 5. Beulah grew to
womanhood in the Calvary vicinity and was known as Beulah Einfeldf.
She with her parents moved to Creston and there she met Ralph Hicks and was
married. She left to mourn her loss, 3 girls and a boy and seven grandchildren.
Beulah
has been employed with the Penney store for a good many years.
Funeral
services were from the First Presbyterian Church at
Hastings.
Final resting place Is Parkview Cemetery there. Mrs Bubb then stopped
for a couple of days with a brother, Lloyd and wife of Omaha, before returning
home.

H T Klove of 3016 Honolulu Ave La Crescenta,
Calif., died suddenly Thursday evening, June 14. He formerly lived m Lenox and
was a bookkeeper for Copeland-Wells.
Mr Klove was 56 years old and had worked 28 years in the
auditing
department of the Examiner, La Crescenta newspaper beginning
work for them shortly after he went to California.
He was
born in Nevada la. Survivors include his
widow, Mrs June Klove; a
daughter, Katheryn and a brother, Sumner.
Funeral
services were in the Church of the
Hills at Forest Lawn June 18.

j Kopp, 79, farmer, died Friday, May 11, 1956, at his home in Indianola after a
lingering illness. He was born in Springfield, Ill., in Whiteside County.

services were Monday at Indianola. Interment was in the IOOF cemetery.

L. Larimer, 75, died at Des Monies at 9 a.m. Saturday. He was a former resident
of Lenox. The funeral was at the Arnold Funeral home in Des Moines Monday evening
with burial Tuesday morning at Russell, Iowa, Survivors include his widow,
Gertrude, 3 sons and 2
daughters.
In this vicinity are 2 grandsons, Richard and Charles Gray.

LeMaster, Janet -
Janet LeMaster, 4 year old daughter of Mr and Mrs W. H. LeMaster, of
Greeley, Colo., was hit by an automobile and killed Wednesday, at 7 p. m., as
she ran out from behind a truck parked in front of the LeMaster home. She was taken to the hospital by ambulance, but was dead on arrival. Her
mother, the former Marian Wurster,
was born and reared in Lenox, leaving here in 1942.
The
funeral was Saturday afternoon at Greeley. Survivors were the parents; 1
sister, Ann; her aunt, Mrs Louise Wynn of Lenox;
Grandmother, Mrs Margaret LeMaster of Denver, Colo., and Grandparents, Mr and Mrs Ben Wurster, of Evergreen, Colo, also former long time
residents of Lenox.

I. Dwight -
I. Dwight Lovell of 244 E. Temple St., San Bernardino. Calif., passed away at his home Monday, July 30, at the age of 73 years.
He was
a retired carpenter of the Santa Fe railroad.
Dwight
was born in Winnemucca, Md., and came to Lenox about 1916. He married Mrs. Edna
Beach Holbrook of Lenox and moved to California in 1923. His wife died in 1939.
He made his home for several years with his step daughter. Mrs. A. H. Doig.
Later he married Mrs. Susan Randolph, who survives
him. He
leaves also two brothers, Floyd and Clifford; two sisters, Mrs.
Carl Cody of Seattle and Ethel Russman of Maryland; a step
son,
Duane Randolph and a step daughter, Mrs. Frank Bernard of San Bernardino.
Funeral
services were held Thursday, Aug. 2 with interment
at Montecito
Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mary
Alice Meagher, 77, a former resident of Lenox, died at Detroit, Mich.,
Saturday, April 21. She was the daughter of Mr and Mrs T T Maegher,
who were prominent pioneer residents of Lenox. She was a graduate of Lenox high
school and lived here until she moved to Detroit in 1926.
Survivors:
2 sisters, Kathryrn Meagher, of Detroit and Mrs Joseph Kafka, of California, 2 nephews, Robert and
Thomas Brand of Detroit and 5 nephews in the Caskey family in California; cousins, Theo Brand of Detroit, Esther Smith, Carrie Magrath and Mary Maloney of
Lenox
and Charles Maloney of Sharpsburg.
Funeral
services were held Tuesday in the Visitation Catholic Church in Detroit. Burial the Brand family lot in Detroit. Her sister, Mrs Vera Brand, died in 1926. Her brother Robert G Brand, died in 1954.

C Pearson, 79, former Constable of Lenox, died Tuesday
at 11:15 p. m. at his home in Lenox. He had suffered a heart attack recently and
had not been well for several weeks.

services will be Friday at 9 a. m. at the Bender Funeral

in Lenox with the Rev Harold Butts officiating. There will be a service also at Hale, Mo, Friday at 3 p. m. Burial in the Hale cemetery.

James Chasteen -
James Chasteen Pearson, son of Edgar and Eliza Wright Pearson,
was born at Bedford, Missouri, Sept. 5, 1876 and lived in that and Hale vicinities
until 1924 when he moved to Iowa.
On
October 19, 1899 he was united in marriage with Lulu Wimmer who departed this life in April 1925. To this union was born Pearl, now Mrs George Dowell of Kansas City, Mo., and a son Murrel of Burlington, Iowa.
On
March 12, 1929 he was married to Mrs Huldah Matzen of Lenox, Iowa who
has been ready at all times to care for him during the long period of time he
has been ailing.
In
early life he was a member of the Baptist Church but later moved to East Grace
Church north of Hale.
After
moving to Lenox he united with the Methodist Church. He was a member of the
Masonic lodge at Hale, Mo.
He is
survived by his wife, daughter and son, daughter-in-law,
son-in-law,
two step daughters Mrs Roy Heaps, Mrs Randall Haynes and their husbands, two grand-daughters Mrs Marilyn Shipley and Miss Judy Pearson and a grandson Billy Dowell, three great
grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and eight step-great grandchildren; also,
three sisters Mrs Nealie Ogan, Mrs Etta Uhrmacher of Chillicothe. Mr and Mrs Ella Sparrow of Kansas City, Mo. and several nephews
and nieces

and his parents preceded him in death.
Funeral
services were held at 9 am Friday at Lenox and 1 pm at Hale, Mo., where the
body was buried in the family lot.

(Chet) Sellers, 83, died, at his home here Saturday morning at 3 o'clock. He
had not been well for some tune and was seriously ill two days, Services were Monday afternoon at the Bender Funeral home, the Rev. H D Butts
officiating. Burial was in the Clearfield cemetery.
OBITUARY
Chesley Robert Seller, son of Milton and Sarah Seller, was born in Green Castle,
Indiana, Oct. 29, 1872, and passed this life in Lenox, Iowa, May 5, 1956, age
83 years 6 months and 6 days. At the age of 5 he came with his parents and
family to Iowa, where they settled on a
farm 6 miles south and one mile west of Lenox.
In
1914 he moved to Lenox with his father, his brother Albert
and sister, Una. Here he made his home until his death. After coming to Lenox he worked as a painter and
repairman. When a. young
boy he joined the Methodist Church in Conway.
Chesley is the last of his family. Preceding him in death were
his father and mother, 5 brothers: Columbus, John, Will, Edwin and Albert, 3
sisters: Mrs Louella Ray. Mrs Florence Garsline and Mrs Una McGrew. Surviving are 3 nieces in this vicinity, Pluma Ray, who has lived in the home here since 1925, Mrs Florence Symonds of
Cromwell,
Bertha Toland of Lenox and a number of other nieces and nephews besides
friends and neighbors.

Harry Stottlemyer, former resident of Lenox, passed away at Leon
May 2, 1956, at the age of 78 years. Funeral services will be Friday, May 4, at
1:30 at the Stewart Funeral home at Leon. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery
in Lenox.

Stottlemyer, Harry H. -
Harry
H Stottlemyer, son of Denton and Martha Stottlemyer was born at Fredrick Co. Maryland, May 30, 1677
and passed away at the Decatur County hospital May 2.
He
moved with his parents to Lenox, Iowa, and lived in this vicinity for many
years. Later he moved to Van Wert, Iowa. He was a member of the Van Wert
Christian Church.
In
1901 he was married to Minnie Jones. To this union twelve children were born.
Three have preceded him in death. Mrs Stottlemyer also preceded him in death, April 1931.
He was
later married to Alice Bradbury. He is survived by his
wife,
Alice; six daughters, three sons; one brother Robert L.
Stottlemyer,
Clio, Mich.; twelve grandchildren, six great grandchildren, nieces and nephews,
and many other relatives and
Friends.
Memorial
services were held at the Stewart Funeral Home May 4 at 1:30. Lloyd Bensmiller pastor of the Leon Christian Church was in
charge, Burial was at Lenox.

Mrs.
Lottie Alexander Swartz passed away at a Billings, Mont.,
hospital Aug. 10. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph
Alexander.
She was united in marriage to Perry Swartz in
1905,
at Lenox.
In
1914 they moved to Broadview, Mont., where they have since made their home. She
and her husband spent 6 weeks in Iowa a year ago, visiting relatives and
friends. She leaves her husband, 3 daughters and 2 sons, besides a great many
relatives and friends.
Funeral
services and burial were at Broadview.

Wintermute, Mable -
Mable Wintermute. Osteopathic physician, passed away at her home
here Saturday morning at 7:45. Her niece, Mrs. Ray Kernen of Conway was with her. Dr. Wintermute suffered a heart
attack several days ago. She was 81 years old, and had lived in Lenox 25
years. Before that her home was in
Bedford.
Surviving are one brother, Harley Wintermute of Conway. and several nieces and nephews. Funeral
services were Wednesday
afternoon
at Bedford, with Miss Jessie Kelly of Minneappolis officiating. Burial was at Bedford.

Wood, Mary Maud Hamilton –
Mary Maud
Hamilton, daughter of J. I. and Lettica Hamilton was
born May 3, 1877 near Morning Sun and passed away at the home of her son and
daughter-in-law on April 18, 1956 at the age of 78 years, 11 months and 15
days.
In 1884 she
with her parents and one brother moved to a farm located 5 miles North of
Lenox, Iowa in Adams County, where she grew to womanhood. On November 22, 1899, she was married to
Joseph Wood, Jr. and moved to the farm on which her son now lives.
To this
union one child was born, Lloyd in 1914, the family moved to Lenox which has been her home
for the past 42 years. Her father, mother, brother and husband preceded her in
death.
She
leaves to mourn her death, her son Lloyd, daughter-in-law Lela, 3 grandchildren 2 great grand children and relatives and friends.
At an early
age she united with the Presbyterian Church of Lenox, and was active in church
work until its dissolution.
Funeral
services were April 21 at the Bender Funeral homo
conducted by Rev. Eddy. Burial in Lenox Cemetery.
