Arebaugh, Nina Teatsworth Hockenberry–
Funeral
services, in charge of the Arnold Funeral Home, were held Monday afternoon in
Shenandoah for Mrs. Nina Teatsworth Arebaugh, 83, who died Thursday morning at the home of her
daughter Mrs. George Plows in Lenox. Death was attributed to a heart attack.
Surviving
are her four sons, Arthur and Harry Teatsworth of
Lenox, Charles Teatsworth of High River, Alberta,
Canada, and George Teatsworth of Keokuk; and three
daughters, Ida Tunnicliff of Caldwell, Idaho, Ila Plows of Lenox and Carrie Ross of Lindsay, Calif.
Rites
were conducted by Jas. Pearson, Shenandoah radio pastor. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery, Shenandoah.

Arebaugh,
Nina Teatsworth Hockenberry -
Nina Teatsworth Arebaugh, daughter of
Helen and Jacob Hockenberry, was born October 10,
1859 in Peoria county, Ill. and died April 29, 1943 at
ten o’clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Plows in Lenox, Iowa at
the age of 83 years, six months and 19 days.
She
was married to Bloomer W. Teatworth in 1880, who died in February 1913. They were the parents of seven children, all of whom are living. They are Arthur Teatsworth of Lenox, Ia., Charles Teatsworth of High River,
Canada, Ida Tunnicliff, Caldwell, Idaha, Ila Plows, Lenox, Iowa, Carrie Ross, Lindsay, Calif.,
Harry Teatsworth of Lenox, Iowa and George Teatsworth of Keokuk, Iowa. Two of the children, Charles and Ida were unable to attend the rites.
She
was a member of the Church of Christ at Shenandoah, later transferring her
membership to Creston, Ia. She was a faithful church worker and attended
regularly until her health failed.
She
became the wife of Frank Arebaugh, who passed away in
1938.
Surviving
are her children, 16 grandchildren, her two brothers, Will and John, and a
sister, Addie Fahy, all living in the West.
Funeral
services were in Shenandoah on Monday, May 3, with James Pearson, radio pastor
in charge of the rites. Interment was in
the Shenandoah cemetery.

Bull, Walter E. –
Walter E. Bull, son of
James and Lillie Bull, was born January 19, 1887 near Ridgeway, Mo. and died at
his home in Lenox, Iowa on April 3, 1943 at the age of 56 years, two months and
14 days.
He was united in marriage
to Mary F. Sweeten of Pawnee, Mo and to this union two children were born: Mrs. Edna P. Smith of Lenox and Mrs. Vivian
G. Russell of San Diego, Calif.
He leaves his wife, two
daughters and two grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Lillie Bull of Eagleville,
Mo.; a sister, Mrs. Myrtle Pickett of Milan, Mo., together with a host of
relatives and friends.
Funeral services were
Thursday from the Barber Funeral Home with the Rev. J. H. Machlan in charge. Burial was at Blythesdale, Mo.

Cless, Emil –
Emil Cless,
75, who operated a hardware store here about 20 years ago, died May 12 [1943]
at Iowa Methodist hospital, Des Moines. He had been suffering with a heart ailment for six weeks.
While in Lenox, Mr. Cless was active in civic and church circles and also in
the Masonic and Eastern Star orders.
Funeral services were
Monday afternoon, May 11, from Dunns funeral home in Des Moines. Burial was
at Masonic cemetery.
Surviving are his widow,
Mrs. Roxa Jackson Cless,
and three sons, Phillip of Des Moines, Roderick of New York City, and Sergt. W. Raymond Cless, now
stationed at Camp Edwards, Mass.

Cummings, Elnora –
Mrs. Elnora Cummings, 87,
died Friday at her home after an illness of three years. Funeral services were from the Whetmore Mortuary in Bedford. Burial was made in Bedford cemetery.
Surviving are a son, L. B.

Fordyce, Austa Fedella Davidson “Delia” –
Austa Fedella Davidson, daughter
of Mordecai and Mary Ella Davidson, was born May 15, 1874 in Worth county, Mo., and passed away at her home in Blockton, Iowa, April 6, 1943, age 68 years, 10 months and
22 days.
She grew
to womanhood in Worth county, Mo.,
and attended school in Grant City, Mo., and afterwards taught school in Iowa
and Missouri schools.
In 1897 she was united in
marriage to Corb V. Fordyce. They moved to Taylor County, Iowa, where they
have always made their home. To this
union four children were born: Leroy A., Garland, Crystal and Vivian West. Crystal preceded her mother in death in the
year of 1929 and her husband in 1933.
She became a Christian and
united with the church when but a young girl and she has always remained loyal
to her beliefs. She was a faithful
friend and a most kind and loving mother. Mrs. Fordyce will always be remembered in the hearts of those who knew
her.
She leaves to mourn her
passing her immediately family, four grandchildren, Naomi, Francis and Eldon
Fordyce and Averill Alien West; two brothers Orlie and Dale Davidson of Sheridan, Mo., and many friends.
Funeral services were
conducted at the Blockton Methodist church, Friday
afternoon, April 9, by E. B. Stewart, Pastor. Burial was made in the family lot in Blockton.

Ginn, James Garfield –
James Garfield Ginn was born August 24, 1882 at Conway, Ia. and died April
6, 1943 at Community Hospital, Creston, at the age of 60 years, seven months
and 13 days.
He was the only son of
Chas. A. and Cora E. Ginn, both of whom have preceded
him in death as have his three sisters, Jessie Opal Franklin, Emma Eva and
Gladys.
He married Happy Frances
Norris on August 27, 1903 at Lenox, Iowa, and to this union was born two children, a
daughter Mildred, and a son, Ralph.
His childhood was spent in
Conway where he was baptized in the Methodist church at an early age. Most of the years of his adult life were
spent farming near Lenox. His wife preceded
him in death May 5, 1935.
His death followed an
illness of the past year; he had been in the hospital for 2 weeks. He was a man who made and maintained many
friends throughout his life. He leaves a
host of friends and relatives, including these of the immediate family: Mr. and
Mrs. Roy Schafer and children of Kent and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Ginn and son of Wayne. Nebr.
Rites were from the Barber
Funeral Home with the Rev. J. H. Machlan in
charge. Burial was in Lenox cemetery.

Gordon, Mrs. Marian A. –
Funeral services will be
at 2:30 this afternoon, June 17, for Mrs. Marian A. Gordon who died Tuesday,
June 15 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Will Godden in Lenox.
Mrs. Gordon was 93 years
of age.
The rites, from the Arnold
Funeral Home, will be in charge of the Rev. E. F. Hagee. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery, Lenox.
Surviving are three
daughters, Mrs. Godden and Mrs. Josie Hegwood, both
of Lenox, and Essie Gordon of Ogden, Utah.

Hickenlooper, Mrs. N. O. –
Funeral services for Mrs.
N. O. Hickenlooper, 71, the mother of Bourke B. Hickenlooper, Iowa’s chief executive, were Wednesday
afternoon at two o’clock from the Blockton Methodist
Church.
Mrs. Hickenlooper,
ill for several months, died Sunday morning at Iowa Methodist hospital, Des
Moines, where she had been returned the preceding day from a Bedford nursing
home. A heart attack she suffered early
in March was blamed for her death.
Rites were conducted
jointly by the Rev. E. B. Stewart of Blockton and the
Rev. A. Ross of Bedford. Burial was in
the Blockton cemetery, a short distance from where
she had spent many years of her life. Until Wednesday the body laid in state at the Wetmore Funeral Home at
Bedford. It was then taken to the Blockton residence to await the last rites.
Surviving are her husband
and son, and two brothers, W. H. Blakemore of Bedford and John F. Blakemore of
Seattle, Wash.

Hofer, Elizabeth Vernhard –
Funeral services for Mrs.
Elizabeth Hofer, 83, were Sunday afternoon at one o’clock from the Arnold
funeral home in Lenox. Mrs. Hofer died
May 27 [1943] at the Clarinda hospital after a long illness.
Surviving are her husband;
four children, Mrs. A. N. Noble of Wichita, Kans., Ernest, Monticello, Ia.,
Herman of Rock Island, Ill., and Clair who is now serving in the U.S.
Navy. One daughter, Lydia, preceded her
mother in death. Rites were conducted by
the Rev. J. H. Machlan. Burial was in Alleman,
Iowa.

Hofer, Elizabeth Vernhard –
Elizabeth Vernhard, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Vernhard was born October 13, 1860 in Wisconsin and died at
the state hospital, Clarinda, May 27, 1943 at the age of 83 years, seven months
and 14 days.
At the age of three years
she moved to Alleman, Iowa where she remained until
her marriage to Fred J. Hofer of Andausia, Ill. on
Jan. 5, 1862.
They made their home on a
farm in Illinois for about 27 years and to them were born five children: Mrs.
A.N. Noble of Wichita, Kans., Ernest of Monticello, Ia., Herman of Rock Island,
Ill. and Clair, who is now in the navy. One daughter, Lydia, preceded her
mother in death
Mrs. Hofer was a member of
the Methodist church since 1885. Funeral
services were Sunday afternoon at one o’clock from the Arnold Funeral home with
the Rev. J. H. Machlan in charge. Burial was in Alleman,
Iowa.

Jenkins, Frank –
A heart attack he suffered
while at work shortly after 11 o’clock Tuesday morning proved fatal to Frank
Jenkins of Lenox.
Mr. Jenkins, 66, and his
wife had but recently moved here from Greene, Butler county, Iowa, and had
purchased a home.
Surviving are his widow, a
daughter, Mrs. Margaret Harrison of Los Angeles, and a stepson Charles T.
Barlow, now serving with the armed forces. He also leaves four grandchildren.
Funeral services, under
the direction of the Arnold Funeral Home of Lenox, will be held Thursday at
Blair, Nebraska, his early home. Burial
will be at Blair.

Mrs. Evelyn McAdams now of Burlington, Iowa. Rites were conducted by the Rev. J. H. Machlan of the Lenox Methodist church in which Mrs. Kinser was an active member. Interment was in

Kinser, Nellie Campbell –
Nellie Campbell, daughter
of William and Elizabeth Campbell was born March 8, 1868 at Rock Island, Ill.
and died at her home in Lenox, Iowa on May 20, 1943 at the age of 75 years, two
months and 12 days.
She was united in marriage
on October 3, 1888 to Elmer E. Kinser of Creston and
to them were born three children: William and Bessie who preceded their parents
in death and Mrs. Evelyn McAdams whose home now is in Burlington, Iowa.
Mrs. Kinser united with the Methodist church at an early age to
which faith she remained faithful to the time of her passing. She leaves her daughter and son-in-law, Mr.
and Mrs. B. H. McAdams, of Burlington together with many friends and relatives.
Rites
were Friday from the Lenox Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. J. H. Machlan. Interment was
in Morgan cemetery.

Herman Kook who a few
years ago made his home in Lenox with his sister, Mrs. W. C. Bolte, died Thursday in a Brownwood (Tex.) hospital.

Leary, Carrie –
Mrs. Carrie Leary, 65, ill
for six months, died early Monday morning at the Arthur Elliott home near
Kent. She had resided near Kent for more
than 30 years.
Funeral services were in
Creston, Tuesday afternoon from whence, Wednesday, the funeral party went by
auto to Byron, Ill. for burial service. Surviving are a daughter and one sister.

Funeral services were
Sunday afternoon in Humeston, Ia. for S. W. Lewis,
73, the father of Mrs. Paul Davis of Lenox. Mr. Lewis died suddenly last week at his home in Humeston.
Surviving are a son,
Walter C. of Lancaster, Calif. and his daughter, Mrs. Davis. The rites were conducted by the Rev. Earl
Moneymaker of Lenox. Music was by Mrs.
Roy Long and Mrs. Vern Roll with Mrs. Rollie Bender,
accompanying. Burial was in the Humeston cemetery.

Lewis, S. W. –
S. W. Lewis, father of
Mrs. Paul Davis of Lenox, died suddenly Wednesday morning at
his home in Humeston, Iowa. Death was attributed to a heart attack
suffered during the night.
Funeral arrangements have
not been completed pending word from a son in California. Mrs. Davis plans to leave today for Humeston.

William E. Miller, 74, who more than a
half-century ago served as attorney for Taylor county,
died Sunday morning in a Des Moines nursing home. Miller came to Taylor county in 1891 immediately following his graduation from law school. He served the county four years

Frank Nesbit, 56, a
patient at the Taylor County Home, died Monday night after a long illness. He is survived by two brothers, Charles
Nesbit of Corning and Ed Nesbit, who resides in California, and by a sister
Mrs. L. Tracy, also of Corning.
Funeral services were
Wednesday morning at 9:30 from the Catholic church in
Corning. Burial was at Corning.

Mrs. Mae Baumann Smock, a
former Lenox resident, died last week at her home in Tingley, Ia.
The sister of Mrs. Ida
Turner and of Sherman Baumann, Mrs. Smock with her husband have resided in Ringgold county for several years.
Funeral services were in Tingley on Saturday afternoon.

Funeral
services will be Thursday afternoon at 2:00 from the Arnold Funeral Home for
Clark Stevens, 59, Lenox farmer and at one time a barber here. Mr. Stevens died shortly after seven o’clock
Monday morning, after an illness of less than 24 hours. A heart attack was blamed for his death.
Surviving are his widow, four brothers, Will of Seymour, Chas. Of
Wray, Colo., Clarence of Cromwell and Lee of Creston; and three sisters, Mary Goldner of Kansas City, Edna Courtmaurch of Mill City, Ore. and Alma Feese of Redonda Beach,
Calif.
Rites
will be in charge of the Rev. E. F. Hagg. Burial will be in Lenox cemetery.

Stevens,
James Clark –
James
Clark Stevens, third child of John and Emily Stevens, was born July 15, 1894 in
Adams county, and died Monday at seven o’clock a.m. on
May 10, 1943 at his home three miles southeast of Lenox at the age of 56 years,
nine months and 25 days.
On
March 18, 1908 he was married to Edna Carvet of Lenox
who survives him. Twenty-seven years of
their married life were spent on a farm in the vicinity of Lenox, and eight
years in the barber business in Cromwell and Lenox.
Having
been a member of a family of 11 children, his parents and three brothers have
preceded him in death as well as a son who died in infancy. Surviving are four brothers, William of
Seymour, Ia.; Charles of Wray, Col., Clarence of Cromwell, Ia. and Lee of
Creston; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Goldner of Kansas
City, Mo. Mrs. Walter Coutemache of Portland, Ore.
and Mrs. Lowell Fees of Redondo Beach, Calif.
He
also leave 22 nieces and nephews and a host of
friends. Funeral services were Thursday,
March 13, at 2 o’clock p.m. from the Arnold Funeral Home in Lenox with the Rev. E . F. Hagee in charge of
the rites. Burial was in Lenox Fairview
cemetery.

Sweigart, Cora Nation –
Mrs. C. G. Sweigard, a former resident of Sharpsburg, died late last
week at her home in Hot Springs, South Dakota.
The former Miss Cora
Nation, she was the aunt of Mrs. Clifford Underwood of Sharpsburg. When or where the rites will be held was not included in the
message received by Mrs. Underwood.

Funeral services will be
held at 2:30 this afternoon, April 29 [1943] for Mrs. Joe Tedford,
81.
Mrs. Tedford died Tuesday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Blanche Bruington with whom she had been making her home.
Surviving is her daughter,
Mrs. Bruington, and two grandchildren, Tedford L. Bruington and Ray
Eugene Bruington. Rites will be at the Arnold Funeral Home. Burial in Lenox cemetery.

Tedford, Emma Jane Johnston –
Emma Jane Johnston was
born near Columbus City, Iowa, October 3, 1861, and passed away at the home of
her daughter, Mrs. Blanche Bruington, April 27, 1943,
at the age of 81 years, 6 months and 24 days.
She had made her home with
her daughter, since the death of her husband in July 1942.
She was the daughter of
Wm. A. and Rachel Johnston. She was
united in marriage to Joseph M. Tedford on October
30, 1883 in Louisa county, Iowa. Soon after, they moved to a farm south of
Lenox, being one of the pioneer families. They made their home on the farm until the fall of 1921 moving to Lenox
where they resident until Mr. Tedford’s death.
Early in life she became a
member of the United Presbyterian church of Columbus City, later transferring
her membership to the Lenox church, taking an active part as long as her health
would permit.
She is survived by her
daughter, Mrs. Blanch Bruington, two grandson, Tedford Bruington of Lenox and Ray Bruington of Los Angeles, Calif, four great grandchildren,
Margaret and Margery Morris of Kansas City, Mo., Gordon Dee and Wayne Dale Bruington of Lenox, two sisters, Mrs. Louella Duncan and Mrs. Grace Robertson both of Columbus City, Iowa, and many nieces
and nephews. One niece, Hazel Parks,
made her home with Uncle Joe and Aunt Emma after the death of her parents.
She is preceded in death
by her husband and a granddaughter, Mrs. Grace Bruington Morris.
Services were Thursday
April 29, 1943, at Arnold Funeral Home at 2:30 p.m. Burial was at the Fairview Cemetery.

Whitlow, Priscilla Jane Funk –
Mrs. Priscilla Whitlow,
about 91, a long-time resident of Lenox, died late Tuesday at her home
here. She had been ill for several
years.
Surviving are her three
sons: Will of Lenox, Arthur of Omaha, and George of Tarkio, Mo. She also leaves one daughter, Mrs. Mel
Paisley of Creston.
Funeral arrangements, in
charge of the Barber Funeral Home, had not been completed at mid-afternoon
Wednesday.

Whitlow, Priscilla Jane
Funk –
Priscilla Jane, daughter
of Henry and Elizabeth Funk, was born December 20, 1852 in Peoria county, Illinois and died April 27, 1943 at her home in
Lenox, Iowa.
She was married to William
Whitlow on October 22, 1868 at Pennsylvania Ridge and to this union was born
five children, all of whom survive her. They are G. F. Whitlow of Council Bluffs, Mrs. G. H. Paisley of Creston,
C. H. Whitlow of Tarkio, Mo., W. E. Whitlow of Lenox and A. E. Whitlow of Nora,
Nebraska.
They moved from Peoria
county to Page county, Iowa near Northboro, Ia. where
they resided nine years then moved to Lenox, Iowa, where Mrs. Lived until her
death. Her husband preceded her in death
July 15, 1915.
Mrs. Whitlow united with
the Lutheran church at the age of 17 years. In later years she united with the Methodist church and remained a
member until her death.
Funeral services were from
the Lenox Methodist church on Thursday, April 29, with the Rev. J. H. Machlan in charge. Interment was made in the Lenox cemetery.

Wistrom, Paul –
Paul Wistrom,
31-year-old Gravity farmers, was instantly killed Saturday when his head was
crushed beneath the lugs of a farm tractor wheel.
Wistrom, it was reported, was attempting to pull a hog house
to another site when the accident occurred. When the tractor mired itself, a team of horses was hitched to the front
of the machine. Mrs. Wistrom was driving the horses while her husband operated the tractor. The team, becoming frightened, veered to one
side, overturning the tractor. Wistrom was thrown to the ground and the tractor wheel,
still revolving, crushed his skull.
Funeral services were
Tuesday afternoon from the Gravity Methodist church, with the Rev. E. B.
Proctor in charge of the rites. Burial
was in the Red Oak cemetery. Surviving
are his widow, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Wistrom,
also of Gravity.
