Harry I Adams, 84, resident of Bedford for many years, died
at the Lenox Rest Home Nov 14 after a long illness. Funeral
services were held at Bedford Wednesday, Nov 17, with burial there.
His wife passed away in 1944. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Sylvia Buchanan of Lenox, a son, Harrison of Denver, Colo, four grandchildren, Richard and James Buchanan, Margie Ann and Edward Adams.

Bassett, Samuel Roy –
Samuel Roy Bassett was born near Ely in Linn County, Iowa Oct. 8, 1884 and passed away Jan. 9, 1955 at Cottage Hospital, Fullerton, Calif. He was 70 years, 3 months of age.
Funeral services were held Wednesday Jan. 12 at 2 pm in Melrose Abbey Mausoleum. The Rev. Owen Gur, pastor of the First Methodist Church officiated.
When a small boy he moved with his parents to Adams County, Iowa near Corning. He joined the Methodist church when a young man and was a faithful member until the last.
He was married to Jessie A. Kreiger of Lenox in 1909 and moved on a farm near Lenox where they made their home, and in Lenox until 1942 when they moved to Calif.
One son blessed this union, Harland L. Bassett of Brea, Calif.
His wife passed away Aug. 21, 1954. He leaves to mourn his son Harland and wife, Jean, 2 grandchildren, Sandra Jean and Robert Harland. Also two sisters, Gladys Badgett of Corning and Stella Grecian, Eureka, Calif. and two brothers Orville of Lenox, Iowa and Clarence of Ogden, Utah, several nieces and nephews. His brothers and sisters attended the funeral.

Belding, Floyd Harry -
Floyd Harry Belding, son of Charlie and Minnie Belding, was born on a farm near Carl, la., Feb 22,1894, and passed away at the hospital Jan 6, 1955 at the age of 60 years, 10 months and 14 days.
He was married to Lulu Bivens at Bedford, la., and to this union one son was born. He served 2 years in the US Army and after his discharge, he took up painting as his occupation.
He was married to Leola Cross of Kansas City, Mo., where he has since made his home. Those surviving besides his wife Leola, are a son, Mervyn Belding of Kansas City, his mother, Mrs Minnie Belding of Lenox; three sisters, Mrs Erma Reed and Mrs Delia Beadel, of
Lenox; Mrs Mabel Boltinghouse of Clearfield; one brother, Orval
of Harrisburg, Ky. One sister, Mrs Opal Howard was killed in
a train, and car accident in July 1951; also surviving is a grandson
Clyde Belding of Sharpsburg and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Sunday at 2 p m from Bender Funeral Home conducted by Rev H D Butts. Burial was in Lenox Cemetery.

Mrs Jeanette Burch, 90, died at her home in Temple, Texas.
The body arrived at the Bender Funeral Home in Lenox Thursday
evening. Graveside services were at the Lenox cemetery Friday
at 1:30 p. m. Mrs Burch was a former resident of Lenox, leaving here about 60 years ago. Her husband is buried in the Lenox cemetery. She was a cousin of Mrs. Eva Barrans of Lenox.

Chute, Marvin -
Marvin Chute, 34, of Corning, who had been employed at Moses Lake, Wash recently suffered a heart attack and died at Moses Lake Saturday night. He had been employed as a plumber on a school building project. He was reared in Lenox and is a nephew of Warren Eckels of Lenox.
Funeral services will be Friday, at 2 p. m., January 28, at the Mehodist church in Corning, with sermon by the Rev. Frank Jacobs. Burial will be in Stringtown cemetery.
The body was brought by plane from Seattle to Kansas City and by ambulance to Corning.
Survivors: his mother, Mrs Dora Chute of Corning and a sister, Mrs Merrill Clinton of Los Angeles, Calif.

Mrs Louisa Dunn, 86, passed way at the hospital in Maryville, Mo., Sunday at 12:30 p. m. She had suffered a fall about two weeks ago, breaking hip and arm. After an operation Thursday when limb was set she had grown steadily weaker until the end on Sunday. Funeral services were held at the Shum Funeral Home Wednesday afternoon conducted by the Rev Lee, pastor of the Free Methodist church
assisted by the Rev Bertha Brown of Shambaugh. Burial at Guss.

Will Egleston, 76, retired farmer, died Sunday evening at 8:35 at his home in Lenox. Funeral services were at the Presbyterian church in Sharpsburg Wednesday at 2 p. m. with the Rev Willard Morris officiating. Burial was in the Gravity cemetery. Bender Funeral Home was in change.
Survivors: his wife, Vera; 2 daughters, Mrs Louise Pershin, of Lenox, Mrs Calvin Vore of Marfa, Texas; 1 brother, Roy of Sharpsburg; 4 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Egleston, Will Jay -
Will Jay Egleston, son of Benjamin H and Ida M Egleston, was born at Joliet, Ill., March 31, 1878, and passed away after a long illness at his home in Lenox, Jan 30, 1955, at the age of 76 years, 9 months and 29 days.
When he was 4 years old his family moved from Illinois to the vicinity of Carbon, la., where he grew to manhood. With the
exception of eight years spent in South Dakota, he lived the rest
of his life in Montgomery and Taylor counties, Iowa. His principal
occupation was farming, except for a period of about ten years, when he was employed by a hardware store in Villisca.
On Sept 21, 1932 he was united in marriage to Mrs Vera Blakslee,
of Gravity and became a beloved father to her two daughters, Louise and Mary Ellen.
Mr Egleston accepted Christ when he was a young man, and was a member of Christian Adventist Churches in and near Villisca. Wherever he lived, he associated himself with some church, and took part in church activities all his life. He particularly enjoyed music, playing several musical instruments, and singing in many groups and church choirs. He sang in a community men’s chorus in Villisca for several years.
Mr Egleston was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred, of
White River, S. Dak., and Arthur of Corning la.; and by a sister Mrs Louise Oster of Red Oak, Iowa.
He is survived by his brother Roy of Sharpsburg, la.; his sister,
Elizabeth Zuber of Estacada, Ore.; his wife; his two daughters,
Louise (Mrs Lee) Pershin of Lenox, and Mary Ellen (Mrs Calvin) Vore of Marfa, Tex.; by four grandchildren, Mrs Martha Frame of Creston, la., and Richard, Julia, and Lynda Pershin of Lenox; and one great granddaughter, Lee Ann Frame. He also leaves many nieces and
nephews and other relatives in many places.

Ernest Gardner, 50, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 1955 at his home SW of Clearfield where he had lived for a number of years. He is survived by two sisters, Mary Stevens and Ellen Halstead of Hamburg, la.; 3 brothers, Oscar of Conway; Jesse, Hamburg, la.; and Frank of Farragut, la. Rev and Mrs Willard Morris left Monday for Waterman, Ill., to attend funeral services for Mrs Morris' uncle, Sam Gordon, who died Sunday afternoon. The minister and his wife went to Illinois by way of Kansas City where they were joined by her mother.

Grubb, Lloyd Chester –
Lloyd Chester Grubb, son of William L. and Samantha Watkins Grubb, was born Aug. 21, 1893 near Conway, Ia. and died at his home near Bedford Oct. 22, 1954 at the age of 61 years, 2 months and 1 day.
Funeral services were conducted from the Methodist church in Bedford Wednesday Oct. 27 at 2 p.m. by Rev. Robert M. Peters, minister of the church. Burial was in the Conway Cemetery.
He attended rural schools near Conway and there he grew to manhood. He was married to Bertha C. Jarvis Jan. 30, 1918 in Conway. To them were born six children, Mrs. Glen Gamel (Lillian) of Bedford, M. Sgt Chester L. Grubb, US Air Force, Germany, Mrs. Dannie Gamel (Gladys) of Hopkins, Mrs. Howard Allen (Frances) Prescott, Elton W. Grubb (deceased in 1926) Mrs. Dale Hatfield (Hazel) of Bedford.
Besides his beloved companion and the five living children, he leaves his aged mother, Mrs. Manta Grubb of Conway, two brothers, Garrett and Milton Gribb of Anthony, Kan. One sister, Miss Audrey Grubb of Conway, eleven grandchildren.
Mr. Grubb was converted when 18 years of age and united with the Methodist church in Conway. From there he transferred to the Methodist Church in Bedford in 1929. Mr. Grubb spent his entire life in the vicinity of Conway and Bedford.
Lloyd’s cheerful disposition won him a host of friends. Mr. Grubb had been in poor health for the past 3 years, but his sudden passing was a great shock to his wife and children and the other loved ones.

Funeral services for LuAnn Haley, 3-month-old daughter of Mr and Mrs Glen Haley of Lenox were held at 2 p. m. Monday at the Methodist church, in Prescott. The child died at the Greater Community Hospital in Creston at 6 p m Friday.
Rev Donald Watkms of Sharpsburg conducted toe services. Burial was in Evergieen Cemetery at Prescott. The baby died of pneumonia. She was born Oct. 13, 1954.
Surviving are her parents Glen and Evelyn Stevens Haley; a brother, Rex; a sister Kay, and grandparents, Mr and Mrs Paul Haley of Corning and Mrs Clara Stevens of Prescott.

Kelley, Orville D.
Orville D. Kelley, a former resident of Lenox, passed away at his home Nov. 19 in Arcadia, Calif. following a stroke. He had
been in ill health almost three years. He is survived by his wife
Vera, two daughters, father and mother, a sister and 3 granddaughters.
Services were held at the Chapel of Turner, Stevens & Turner Nov 23. Burial was in the Rose Hill Memorial Park.
Mr. and Mrs. Byron Brown left Nov. 20 to attend the services.
Mr. Kelley was a brother-in-law of Mr. Brown and had worked at the Brown Ice when living her.

Manroe, Issie May Nelson -
Issie May Manroe, daughter of Mathew and Nancy Nelson was born, in Washington County, Iowa, March 24, 1871 and passed away at her home December 21, 1954, at the age of 83 years, 9 months and 3 days.
On February 26, 1879, at the age of 8 years she moved to Lenox, Iowa with her parents, where she resided until her death. On August 23, 1894, she was united in marriage to Thomas Manroe. To this union one daughter was born, Mrs. Berdiece Wilson.
In her early married life she united with the Christian Church and was always faithful to her belief.
She is survived by her husband Thomas, daughter Berdiece, one sister Edna Stevens and one brother, Ed Nelson. Also many nieces and nephews besides a host of friends. She was a kind and loving wile and mother.
Funeral Services were Friday December 24, at 2 o’clock at
Bender Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Cecil Simonton.
Burial was in Fairview Cemetery.

John Wesley, son of John and Mary Young Monk was born March 30. 1876 in Johnson County, Iowa, and departed this life at his home in East Clearfield, la., Dec 22, 1954, age 78 years, 8 months. 22 days. He came when a child with his parents to Lenox, la., where he attended
school and grew to manhood.
On Dec 4. 1901 he was unit in marriage to Grace M Voss at the home of her parents, Mr and Mrs Jas Voss, southeast of Clearfield. Mr Monk followed farming near Diagonal and Clearfield until 1924 when they moved to Omaha where he had employment in a box factory.
In 1943 they returned to Clearfield where they have since resided Mr and Mrs Monk were the parents of four children, three sons. Claude E of Clearfield, F Merl of Omaha, and Donald G of Las Vegas, Nev., one daughter Mrs Zelda Frame of Clearfield. Besides his wife Grace and the children, are 15 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; also one brother, B F Monk of Bethel, Kan.; three sisters, Ella Haley of Omaha, Neb.; Fannie Stahl of Diagonal; and Myna Newburn of Sioux City; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held at 2 p. m. Sunday at J R Crew Funeral Home. Burial in Clearfield cemetery. Rev H Ball officiated at the services.

Edw J Nesbit, a former resident and business man of Lenox passed away at 1 o'clock Saturday morning at his home m Sun Valley, Calif. Mr Nesbit was a brother-in-law of Lonnie Hunter and Mrs John F Walter of Lenox.

Mrs Lucy Sayler, 75, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs Rowena Sexton in Bedford Tuesday morning. Mrs Sayler had been a resident previously of Conway for many years. Preceding her in death: her husband, I N Sayler and a son, Lawrence Sayler, also 1 brother
Artie Deweese; 3 sisters, Dollie Pine, Stella and Katie Deweese.
Surviving are four daughters, Rowena Sexton of Bedford; Helen Smith of Conway; Margaret Pine, Diagonal; Stella Barlow, Texas and 3 sons, Ernest of Bedford; Ross in California, and John in Baltimore, Md. One brother Archie Deweese of Clearfiekl, also survives.
The body was brought to J R Crew Funeral Home in Clearfield.
Funeral services were held in Conway Saturday with burial in the Benton Cemetery.

Mrs Will Shepherd, 43, died at the Greater Community hospital
in Creston Saturday at 10 p. m. She had suffered a stroke. The
family lives on a farm 2 miles southwest of Lenox. Survivors:
her husband, Will; 1 son, Don, in the service in California; 1
daughter, Miss Joy Shepherd, of Lenox and 1 grandchild.
Funeral services were Wednesday at 2 p m at the Church of
Christ with the Rev Leo Simmons of Clarinda and the Rev Cecil
Simonton of Lenox officiating. Burial was in Lenox Cemetery.

Shepherd, Zelma Odessa Stogdill -
Zelma Odesa Shepherd, daughter of Jesse and Nola Stogdill, was born at Glenwood, Mo., Aug 19, 1911, and departed this life at Community Hospital at Creston, la., Feb 5, 1955, at the age of 43 years, 5 months, 17 days.
She was one of a family of six children. The father and one sister preceded her in death.
In 1929 she was united in marriage to Willie Walter Shepherd of New Market, Iowa and to this union were born two children, Donald Dean, age 23, and Joyce Ann, age 13.
She lived her entire life in this surrounding community except for a few years in Missouri.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, the children and her mother and four brothers, Howard, Clyde, Dale, Lebert; one daughter-in-law, Mrs Donald Shepherd, also one granddaughter
and a host of relatives and friends.
Mrs Shepherd's heart desire was to see and enjoy their new
granddaughter, Terri Twylene and although she was able to see her only three tunes before her passing, we know that her desire was greatly fulfilled.
She was a kind and devoted mother and mother, who will be
greatly missed by relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Feb 9 at the Lenox Church of Christ, the Rev Leo Simmons of Clarinda and Cecil Simonton officiating. Burial was in Lenox Cemetery.

Sobotka, Thelma -
Mrs Thelma Sobotka, 30, was killed instantly in a two car collision at 3:55 p. m., Sunday, 4 miles west of Clearfield. Her husband, Melvin, was driving. They came off a dirt road controlled by a stop sign. The Sabotka car was going south. The other car, driven by Russell Lundquist, 28 of Corning was going east on County H road.
Lundquist will file charges according to Sheriff Harry Lucas of Taylor County. Lundquist received a badly bruised knee with a bad case of shock, and is hospitalized at the Rosary Hospital in Corning.
Mrs Sobotka received a crushed skull which caused her death. The children, Linda 7, and Dale 4, were riding in the car. They are hospitalized at the Greater Community hospital in Creston. Linda received a right leg fracture, lacerations and a bad bruise at the base of her skull. Dale has a wrenched back. The father suffered shock and bruises.
The Sobotka address is in the Creston vicinity. Mrs Sobotka taught at Lincoln No, 2, a rural school in Ringgold county. The body was taken to Crew Funeral home at Diagonal.
This is the fourth traffic fatality in Taylor county this year. However, in "Lenox Proper" there have been no traffic deaths in the 8 years in which Harry Lucas has served as sheriff in Taylor county. Lenox is proud of that record.

Ida N Stamper, 87, of Shannon City died Jan 19 at the home of
her daughter, Mrs Robert Berg NE of Clearfield. The family formerly
lived east of Clearfield where her husband preceded her in death Surviving; are two sons Lee of Shannon City and Dewey of Greenfield, and one daughter, Mrs Dollie Berg. Mrs Stamper was the “Mother" also of two granddaughters, Mrs Margaret Speer of Tacoma, Wash., and Mrs Phyllis Johnson of Cromwell. One son was killed in World War I. Funeral services were held Saturday at the
Clearfield Methodist church and burial in Clearfield cemetery.

George W Stream, 87, retired farmer, died at the home of his son, Willis Stream, in Lenox at 10 a. m. Nov 25. Funeral services were Saturday at 2 p. m., at the Keating and Beemer Funeral Home in
Creston with the Rev Kendall De Witt of Van Wert officiating.
Burial was in the Graceland cemetery in Creston.
Mr Stream had lived with his children the past six years. Previous
to that his home had been in Creston Survivors: 2 sons, Dean of Van
Wert; Willis of Lenox; 1 daughter, Mrs Georgia DeHart of
Webster City and ten grandchildren.

Mrs Eldon Hixson received word of the death of her mother,
Mrs T S Thibodeaux, 64 Saturday in Sacramento, Calif. Mrs
Hixson and daughter Martha left Sunday to attend services

Services were held from the St Patrick's church in Lenox at 10 a. m., Wednesday with the Rev Father Adam Reisz officiating. Rosary was at the Bender Funeral Home on Tuesday evening at 7:30. Burial in the Calvary cemetery at Creston.

Vanderpluym, Tunis Anthony “Tony” -
Tunis Anthony Vanderpluym (Tony) was born in Holland Nov
18, 1884, the son of John and Wilhelma Vanderpluym. He passed away at his home Jan 2, 1955. He came to this country with
his parents at the age of five and lived a few years in Creston,
later moving to a farm east of Lenox where he grew to manhood.
On April 16, 1916 he was married in Lenox to Mary McManus.
They then moved to a farm near Creston. To this union were born
two daughters and a son. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, 2 infants and his wife.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs Harley Morley, a son-in-Jaw; and two grandchildren. Also 3 brothers, Albert of Shannon City, Lou of Diagonal and Chas of Creston; one sister, Helen in Los Angeles, Calif., and a host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
He lived most of his life in the Lenox-Creston vicinity except for a few years in Illinois.
Services were Wednesday, Jan 5 at 10 a. m. at St. Patrick's church in Lenox with burial in Calvary cemetery in Creston..

Whipple, Austin Crary -
Austin Crary Whipple, son of Orville and Adrienne Whipple, was born in Harrison County, Mo., near Eagleville, Jan 28, 1873, and passed away at his home in Sharpsburg Jan 13, at the age of 81 years, 11 months and 18 days.
He was united in marriage to Lula Allen Feb 26, 1899. To this
union four children were born: Clella Harman of Griswold, la.; Neva Pfander of Gravity, Iowa; Dean of Conway, la.; and Lloyd who died in infancy.
Besides his wife and children he leaves to mourn his passing one brother Harry of Long Beach, Calif.; a sister, Gertrude Swain of Osceola, la., 12 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews and many friends.
After his marriage he and his wife moved to farm near Guss. Later the family moved to Mills County, and from there to Colorado. Two years later the family moved back to Iowa and lived near Avoca for two years. From Avoca they moved to Mills County where they lived for ten years. In 1922 the family moved to Taylor County in the Sharpsburg community.
Mr Whipple joined the church at Mt Gilliad, a country church,
near Eagleville, Mo., when he was 16 years of age. While living in Mills County he transferred his membership to the Presbyterian
church at Emerson, Iowa. When he moved to the Sharpsburg
community in 1922 he transferred his membership to the Presbyterian church of Sharpsburg, where he remained an active member until the time of his death.
