COMMUNITY SHOCKED
Services for George Collins Held Thursday
The Siam community was shocked by the untimely death of George [Joseph] Collins, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Collins [Nellie Pearl Ward], who died at the age of twenty-one years, Tuesday, May 16.
George was of a quiet kindly disposition and had many friends who are grieved by his death. He had been in very poor health for the past several months. The funeral services were held Thursday at the Methodist church at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. L. M. Kirby of New Market. The pallbearers were six of his closest friends, Eldon Clayton, Eldon Miller, Wayne Smith, Harold Henderson, Clair Nichols and Robert Johnson. Burial was in the Oak Grove cemetery.
He was born January 14, 1912, near Siam, Iowa, and had lived all of his life in this community. He attended the New Market high school after having finished the Siam schools. Surviving are his parents, three brothers, Howard [Walter] and Russell at home and Albert of Clearmont, Mo., and his aged grandmother, Mrs. Clara Ward of Carnegie, Okla.

George Joseph Collins
George Joseph Collins, the youngest son of Walter [Rapp] and Nellie [Pearl Ward] Collins, was born Jan. 14, 1912, near Siam, Iowa, and departed this life May 16, 1933, age 21 years, 5 months, and 2 days. He lived all his life in this community, and attended the New Market high school after he had finished the local school.
He leaves to mourn his going his loving mother and father; three brothers, Howard [Walter] and Russell at home and Albert of Clearmont, Mo.; and an aged grandmother, Mrs. Clara Ward of Carnegie, Okla. Several aunts and uncles and cousins also mourn his departure.
George was a devoted son, a faithful brother, and a true friend to all who knew him, always ready to help others when they needed help, but he was one who kept all his own troubles to himself. His last written thoughts were for his dear mother, telling how he loved her, as all true sons love their mothers.
He had been in failing health for the last few months, which seems to have been more than he could bear. In our sorrow we look to God for comfort, knowing that He understands all, and that He doeth all things well.
The funeral service was held at the Siam Methodist church. A great number of friends gathered to pay their respects, and the body was laid to rest in the Shearer cemetery.

George Collins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter [Rapp] Collins, who committed suicide Tuesday, was buried Thursday in the Shearer cemetery. George had been in poor health for some time, suffering with heart trouble. Besides the parents he leaves three brothers, Albert, Howard and Russell.

Howard Collins Services Wed.
Funeral services for Howard [Walter] Collins, 57, who lived a mile southwest of Siam were held yesterday (Wed.) at the Walker Funeral Home in Clarinda with Rev. Larry Gilbert of the Baptist church in charge. Mr. Collins died at Clarinda Municipal hospital Feb. 2 after a ten-day illness.
Mr. and Mrs. Collins have lived in the same farm home since they built it after their marriage. Mrs. Collins is the former Hazel Bashor. Their daughter is Rita Sue, sophomore student in New Market schools. His mother is Mrs. Nellie [Pearl] Ward Collins of New Market, and brother is Albert Collins of Kansas City, Mo.
Mr. Collins was born a half-mile from the present home, son of Walter and Nellie [Ward] Collins. He attended Siam and New Market schools, always living in this vicinity. He was active in church, neighborhood and school affairs, [and a] member of the Baptist church.

Howard Collins Rites Feb. 5
Funeral services for Howard Collins of near Siam, held Feb. 5 at Walker Funeral Home in Clarinda, were conducted by Rev. Larry Gilbert. Mr. Collins died at Clarinda Municipal Hospital Feb. 2 at the age of 58 years, five months and ten days after suffering a massive cerebral hemorrhage ten days before. Interment was at Dallas Center cemetery.

Howard Walter Collins was born August 23, 1905 near Siam in Taylor County, Iowa. He was the eldest of four sons, born to Walter [Rapp] and Nellie [Pearl Ward] Collins.
He was married to Hazel Bashor June 5, 1946 and lived in New Market a short time prior to moving to their farm home near Siam. On Feb. 5, 1948 a daughter, Rita [Sue], was born to make the family complete.
Howard was an active member of the New Market Baptist church and a regular attendant with his wife and daughter. Besides his family and church, he took a special interest in school and community affairs.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel, daughter, Rita [Sue], his mother, Mrs. Nellie [Ward] Collins of New Market and a brother, Albert, of Kansas City, Mo.

Funeral services for Nellie Pearl [Ward] Collins, 91, of Bedford formerly of Siam and New Market, were held August 20, at Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford with Carl Cummings officiating. Mrs. Collins died August 18, 1974 at Colonial Manor here. Interment was at Shearer Cemetery.

Nellie Collins, 91, Final Rites Held August 20
Funeral services for Mrs. Walter (Nellie Pearl) Collins, 91, of Bedford, formerly of Siam and New Market, held August 20 at Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford, were conducted by Carl Cummings. Mrs. Collins died at Colonial Manor in Bedford August 18, 1974. Interment was at Shearer Cemetery, near Siam.
Nellie Pearl Collins, daughter of William and Clara Clausen Ward, was born near Siam, in Polk Township, Taylor County Iowa, August 10, 1883.
She attended school and grew to maturity in the Siam community. In February 1904 she was united in marriage to Walter R. [app] Collins and they lived in the Siam neighborhood.
Four sons were born to this union, Howard, Albert, Russell and George and all have preceded their mother in death. Her husband, Walter, died in 1942.
Following her husband's death she moved to New Market, where she continued to reside until ill health caused her to require nursing care and she entered the nursing home in Bedford.
Left to cherish her memory are one sister, Elizabeth Walker, of Lawton, Oklahoma; two grandsons; two granddaughters; 10 great grandchildren; a daughter in law, Edna P. Collins who has given her both love and care in looking after her needs.
She was a member of the Church of Christ, New Market, Iowa and attended as long as health permitted.
She was a kind and loving wife, mother, sister and friend and she will be sadly missed.

Russell Collins Rites Dec. 11
Funeral services for Russell E. Collins of Siam were held yesterday (Dec. 10) at William Memorial Chapel in Clarinda with Rev. John Beebout, Methodist minister of Clarinda, officiating. Mr. Collins died Monday at Clarinda Municipal hospital. Interment was at Shearer Cemetery.
Russell E. Collins, 54,was born Dec. 20, 1908, near Siam. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter R. [app] Collins. He had spent his entire life in the Siam area and was farming there at the time of his death. He attended Siam grade school and New Market high school.
He is survived by his wife, Edna P. [Harland]; two sons, Robert of Clarinda and Gary [Russell] of Biloxi, Miss.; one daughter, Mrs. Kay Louise Lame of Des Moines; his mother, Mrs. Nellie [Pearl Ward] Collins of New Market; and five grandchildren.

Sarah Rapp was born in Sabina, Clinton county, Ohio, April 8, 1845, and was united in marriage to John D. Collins, September the 22d, 1863, emigrating in 1864 to Taylor county, Iowa, where they have continued to reside ever since, in the vicinity of Siam. Two children were born to them, W. [alter] R. [app] Collins and Mrs. Carrie C. Snow.
Mrs. Collins died May 2d, 1897, aged 52 years and 23 days. Her death came very much unexpected, as she had not complained of being sick at any time. Sunday morning she had got out of bed, dressed herself, washed and combed her hair and started a fire to prepare breakfast. After this she sat down in a rocking chair and called to her husband, ÒJohn get up quick.Ó He called to their son Walter and both got to her as quickly as they could, but life had departed without a struggle. Dr. Snow was sent for immediately and all means taken to restore life, but in vain. She leaves a husband and two children to mourn her loss. She was a kind companion and a loving mother and a considerate neighbor, well liked by all who knew her. She was a consistent member of the M. E. church. Funeral services were held Tuesday May 4, at the M. E. church, conducted by Rev. Rambo of New Market, after which the remains was conveyed to Shearer cemetery for interment. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the entire community.

Walter Collins Dies
Hold Funeral Services at Shearer Church Saturday
Funeral services for Walter [Rapp] Collins, who died suddenly at his home Wednesday night, were held at the Shearer cemetery church at 10:30 Saturday morning conducted by Rev. Paul Barton of Hopkins. Burial was in the Shearer cemetery.
He was born in December 1867 and spent his entire life near Siam. He is survived by his wife and three sons: Howard of the home, Albert of Clarinda, and Russell of near Siam. One son George [Joseph] preceded him in death.

Walter R. Collins
Walter R. [app] Collins, son of John [D.] and Sarah [Rapp] Collins, was born at Siam, Taylor county, Iowa, December 19, 1867, and died at his home south of Siam, Wednesday, April 15, 1942 at the age of 74 years, 3 months, and 27 days.
His entire life was spent in the Siam vicinity. On Feb. 8, 1903 he was married to Nellie [Pearl] Ward. Their first home was at Siam, where he was in business for several years. They later moved to their present farm home made dear to them because of the joys and sorrows they shared throughout the past years.
To them were born four sons, George, who preceded his father in death on May 16, 1933 at the age of 21; Albert of Clarinda, Russell of New Market, and Howard [Walter] at home. The three sons and wife survive. Also two grandchildren, Robert and Kay Louise Collins; and one sister, Mrs. Carrie Snow of San Antonio, Texas.
He was successful in business and a prosperous farmer, always being fair and honest in his dealings. He was a faithful father and devoted husband. He has gone, but the word "dad'' will always be cherished in the hearts of his loved ones.
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Paul Barton at the Shearer church, Saturday, April 18. Burial was in the Shearer cemetery.

Funeral services for Clarence [Evra] Harland, 79, of New Market, will be held today (Thurs.) at Church of Christ in New Market at 10 a.m. Mr. Harland died Monday. He has recently been undergoing care in Iowa City.

Last Rites Held For C. E. Harland
Funeral services for Clarence E. [vra] Harland, well known Gravity and New Market resident, held July 30 at New Market Church of Christ, were conducted by Clarence Potter, minister. Mr. Harland died at Clarinda Municipal Hospital July 27, 1964, at the age of 79 years, seven months and 14 days. Interment was at Dallas Center Cemetery.
The following obituary was included in the services:
Clarence E. [vra] Harland, son of Albert [Clarence] and Mary [Delila Beighler] Harland, was born Dec. 13, 1884 near Norwich, Iowa, and passed away at the Municipal Hospital at Clarinda on July 27, 1964 at the age of 79 years, 7 months and 14 days.
His education was secured in Page County, Iowa. In 1902 he moved with his parents to a farm near New Market.
On Oct. 4, 1905 he was married to Bertha Ellen Ridnour. To this union were born three children, Grace, Ethel and Darrell.
Clarence's life was spent as a farmer in the Gravity and New Market communities, where his cheerful disposition and willingness to help others endeared him to those who knew him.
This wish to help others expressed in willing his eyes to the eye bank that someone might see. Knowing the end was near, his last words were to ask if all preparations had been made, thus he became the first eye donor at the Municipal Hospital.
Clarence was baptized into Christ at the Gravity church, later transferring his membership to the New Market Church of Christ.
Clarence had been ill almost a year, tenderly cared for in his home most of the time with much of the nursing done by his son, Darrell.
Besides his widow, Bertha, he is survived by the two daughters, Grace of Miami, Fla., Ethel Blesie of Knoxville; one son, Darrell of New Market; two brothers, Harry and Frank of New Market.
His father, mother and three brothers, James Arthur, Ivan Roy and Lewis Adelbert preceded him in death.

Obituary
Mrs. A. [lbert] C. [larence] Harland, an old and highly respected lady of this community passed away Sunday afternoon at her home northeast of town. She had been an invalid for several years, and while her death was not entirely unexpected yet when the final summons came it was a distinct shock to her family and friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in the grove at the home of her son Dell, conducted by Rev. E. L. Field. Interment was in Dallas Center cemetery.
Mary D. [elila] Beighler was born near Clarinda, Iowa, January 31, 1857, and died at her home near New Market, August 15, 1920, age 63 years, 6 months, and 16 days.
She was married to Albert C. [larence] Harland March 22, 1877, and to this union were born 7 children, William who died in infancy, James A. [rthur] of Salina, Kansas, Ivan R. [oy], Clarence E.[vra], Louis A. [delbert], Isaac H. [arris] and John F. [ranklin].
At the age of 18 years she was converted to the Christian faith, joining the United Brethren church of Shambaugh, later transferring her membership to the First Baptist church of Shenandoah, Iowa.
She leaves to mourn her loss, besides her husband and aged mother; 4 brothers, William L., and Ira O. Beighler of Oklahoma, Charles C. [alvin] Beighler of California, and James S. Beighler of Nebraska, 6 sons and 16 grandchildren.
She was a good Christian mother, unselfish patient and kind and always thinking of others. May her life be an inspiration to all of us.

Clifford Heller Rites Tuesday
Funeral services for Clifford [Eugene] Heller, 59, of Lenox, were held Tues. (Nov. 26) at Bender Funeral Home in Lenox. Mr. Heller died Nov. 21 at the home of a daughter, Miss Evelyn Heller, in Amarillo, Tex., after a year's illness. Interment was at Gravity cemetery.
Nearly a life-long resident of Taylor County, Mr. Heller worked for the county before coming ill.
He is survived by his wife, Faye; a son, Edward [Eugene] Heller of Cleveland; and two daughters, Mrs. Donna Leonard of Des Moines and Evelyn at whose home he died; a brother also survives.

Clifford Heller Rites Nov. 26
Funeral services for Clifford Eugene Heller were held in Lenox Nov 26 with burial at Gravity cemetery.
The following obituary was included in the services:
Clifford Eugene the son of Mr. and Mrs E. [dward] J. [oseph] Heller [Minnie Alice Squires], was born Jan. 1, 1904 in New Market, Iowa. He died Nov. 22, 1963 at the home of his daughter Evelyn in Amarillo, Texas at the age of 59 years, 10 months and 21 days.
He married Faye Alice Pennebaker July 3, 1925 in Bedford, Iowa. To this union two daughters, Evelyn and LaDonna Mae and a son Edward [Eugene] were born.
Mr. Heller lived most of his life in or in the vicinity of Gravity, except for brief periods of which the longest was 2 years when be worked in the bomber plant in Kansas City. They lived most recently in Lenox.
For many years he worked in the Taylor County Maintenance Department until illness forced retirement.
He was a member of the Lenox Methodist Church and the Odd Fellows Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Ray who died in infancy.
He is survived by his wife, Faye Alice; his daughters, Evelyn Heller of Amarillo, Texas, Mrs La Donna Mae Leonard and her husband Dean Leonard of Des Moines; a son, Edward Eugene and his wife Jeanne Heller of Cleveland, Ohio; a brother, Carl [Edward] of Clarinda; five grandchildren, many other relatives and a host of friends.

Cliff Heller, road maintenance worker, burial was at Gravity
GRAVITY (Special) — Services for Clifford [Eugene] Heller were held in Lenox on Tuesday with burial at Gravity cemetery.
Cliff lived in Gravity for many years as a road maintainer for the county. He moved to Lenox a few years ago to care for his ailing father. His health failed a few months ago and he was forced to retire.
He leaves his wife Faye [Alice Pennebaker], a son Edward from Ohio, daughters LaDonna of Des Moines and Evelyn in Texas.

Obituary - Ed Heller
Edward Joseph Heller was born at Guss, Iowa, April 28, 1878 and died at his home in Gravity September 2, 1945, at the age of 67 years.
On November 13, 1897 he was married to Minnie [Alice] Squires, who is the mother of Carl Edward Heller of Clarinda and Clifford Eugene Heller of Gravity and Ernest Heller who died at the age of 3 years. The mother died July 8, 1907.
Mr. Heller was married April 15, 1908 to Susan Levis, who was a very kind mother to the boys. She died May 27, 1941.
On April 12, 1943 Edward was married to Clara M. Vosey, who was constantly by his side during his illness, which lasted just 12 days.
He was a very devoted father, not only to his own children but to the eight children of his wife Clara. His home was always open to his many friends, who loved to visit and enjoy the hospitality which was extended.
Left to mourn are his wife, Clara and her eight children; two sons, Clifford and wife Faye of Gravity, Carl and wife Eleanor of Clarinda; two sisters, Emma Monger of Grass Range, Montana and Martha Lower of Colton, Calif.; one brother, Frank of Shambaugh; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
The funeral services were held at 2 p. m. Wednesday, September 5 in the Christian church at Gravity, conducted by Rev. W. A. Purdy. Burial was in the Gravity cemetery.

Mr. and Mrs. La Verne [word unreadable] and daughter Dolores, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Vosey, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Sager, all of Collin, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Milligan of Maxwell; Nancy Newhard of Des Moines, attended the last rites for Ed Heller Wednesday afternoon.
Miss Evelyn Heller, who is employed in Kansas City, came to attend the funeral of her grandfather, Ed Heller.

Obituary-Mrs. E. J. Heller
Susan Levis was born at Bryan, Ohio, Sept. 6, 1866 and died at her home in Gravity, Iowa, Tuesday, May 27, 1941 at the age of 74 years, 8 months and 8 days.
When 10 years of age she moved with her parents to Taylor County, Iowa. It was here she spent the early part of her life.
On April 15, 1908 she was married, to Edward J. [oseph] Heller and with her family she resided on a farm near New Market until 1922, when they moved to Gravity, where she spent the remainder of her life. To her family and home, she always gave her best, devoting her best and noble efforts for the good of her family.
Those left to mourn her passing are her husband, Edward Heller, two stepsons, Carl Heller of Villisca and Clifford Heller of Gravity; nine step-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Geary Miller of Osceola, Mrs. J. E. Fuller and Mrs. Z. D. Cavender of New Market. Her father, mother, a brother, Geo. Emmett, a sister Athelia Oats and an infant brother preceded her in death. Thus reads the life story and past history of a kind and loving wife and mother, devoted to her husband and home. She was buried in Old Memory at New Market Thursday afternoon.

Funeral services for Lyle [Earl] Nelson, Clearfield, lifelong resident of Taylor County, were held August 12 at the Clearfield Christian Church with Rev. Chou Tiak Yoon officiating. Mr. Nelson died at his home August 10. Interment was in the Clearfield Cemetery.
Surviving are two sons, Paul Nelson and Dean Nelson; two daughters, Mrs. Thelma Brown and Mrs. Darlene Taylor; two brothers, Horace Nelson and Ivan Nelson all of Clearfield.

LYLE E. NELSON
Lyle Earl Nelson, son of Olive and Orville Nelson, was born May 9, 1902, on a farm between Clearfield and Conway, and departed this life at his home near Clearfield, Iowa, on August 10, 1971, at the age of 69 years, 3 months and one day.
He lived in the Clearfield community his entire life, on a farm, and graduated from the Clearfield High School in 1919. He was united in marriage to Bessie House of Clearfield, Iowa on June 24th, 1925. To this union were born four children: daughters, Thelma Brown and Darlene Taylor; and sons, Dean and Paul all of Clearfield.
He was a member of the Clearfield Christian Church, and active in church and community activities as long as health permitted.
He was preceded in death by his wife, August 5, 1969, also his parents.
Left to cherish his memory are his four children: Dean, Thelma, Darlene and Paul, two daughters-in-law, Mildred and Caroline Nelson, and two sons-in–law, Dale Brown and Raymond Taylor. Also his fourteen grandchildren, Larry, Martin, and Yvonne Taylor; Allen, Betty Lou, Kathy and Clint Brown; Judy, Jeanie and Kenny Nelson all of Clearfield; Jim Nelson and his wife, Carolyn of Lenox; Harold Nelson and his wife, Rebecca of Atlantic, Iowa; Harriett Bergantzel and her husband, Roger, serving with the U. S. Navy of Norfolk, Virginia; Ronnie Brown and his wife, Nancy, serving with the U. S. Air Force in Italy; two great-grandchildren, Dana and Brian Nelson; two brothers, Ivan and Horace Nelson; also 3 sisters-in-law, Madge and Helen Nelson; Bernice Bennett and her husband, Donald, all living near Clearfield; several nieces and nephews, also a host of relatives and friends.
Last rites were conducted Thursday August 12, 1971, at 2:00 P. M. at the Clearfield Christian Church, with Rev. Chou Taik Yoon officiating. Warner Funeral Home was in charge of the service and burial in the Clearfield cemetery.
Casket bearers serving were Allen Brown, Harold Nelson, Larry and Martin Taylor, Kenneth Nelson and Ivan Bennett.
