Last Rites Held January 21 for Jack Beaver, 67
Funeral services for Dale Wallace Beaver, 67, lifetime Taylor County resident, were held Mon., Jan. 21, at the First Baptist Church in Bedford conducted by Rev. Ollie Odle. Mr. Beaver died January 18, 1974, at the Clarinda Municipal Hospital. Interment was at Fairview Cemetery.
Dale Beaver, son of Thomas Wallace Beaver and Minnie Edna Johnson Beaver, was born at New Market, Ia., July 15, 1906. Jack (as he was affectionately called by those who knew and loved him) was a lifetime resident of Taylor County. He attended the public schools and graduated from the New Market High School as the valedictorian of his class.
On September 23, 1935 he was, married to Beatrice Mabel Dowell at Rockport, Mo., and to this union three sons were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Beatrice, who passed away four months ago in September, two brothers and two sisters.
He leaves to cherish his memory his three sons and their families; Dale Jr., and his wife, Deloris, College Springs, Ia.; Ronald [Dean] and his wife, Ruth, Atlantic, Ia.; Richard [Lee] and his wife, Karen, Dexter, Mo.; three sisters, Ina Cabeen, Des Moines, Ia.; Pearl Penn, Corning, Ia. and Eva Beaver, New Market, Ia.; five grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and a host of friends.
Jack was a barber at the time of his marriage and then in 1940 he purchased and operated a dairy farm known as "Beaverdale Dairy" for 18 years. He then sold out and went back to barbering. He retired two years ago devoting his time to taking care of his wife, Beatrice.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Bedford, and during the past two years that his wife was in poor health he faithfully attended the church with her.
Jack will be greatly missed by his family, friends and neighbors.

Ward B. Hovey, a former Isadora boy and an overseas soldier in the late war, passed away at his home near Malta, Montana, on August 12, aged 29 years, 5 months and 16 days. He left Isadora for Montana in 1914, served nine months overseas and was gassed and wounded in the Argonne defensive, the gas indirectly causing his death.

Last Rites For Edna Mae Irvin

Funeral services for Mrs. Robert A. (Edna) Irvin, 80, who lived near Platteville, held January 4 at Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford, were conducted by Carl Cummings. Mrs. Irvin died at her home January 2, 1974. Interment was at Elmwood Cemetery, Coin, Iowa.
Edna M. [ae] Vawter Irvin, daughter of G. [eorge] G. [ranville] Vawter and Nancy Beal Vawter, was born June 12, 1893, near Colby, Kansas. While still a small girl she moved with her parents from Kansas to a farm near Coin, in Page County, Iowa, where she attended the public schools graduating from the Coin High School with the Class of 1911.
On May 24, 1913, she was united in marriage to Robert A. [ndrew] Irvin and they lived on various farms in Page County until 1940 when they moved to Taylor County, Iowa, living in the Bedford and Conway communities before moving to the farm near Platteville in 1943, where she has continued to reside.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert A. [ndrew] Irvin, who died March 22, 1961, a daughter, Lois Williams Meyer, who died in 1963, and a son-in-law, Loren Williams, one brother, Melvin [Glenwood] Vawter and two sisters, Ruth George and Lois Stine.
Left to cherish the memory of her love and concern are her children: Leonard Irvin, of Bedford, Dorothy Myers and her husband, Glen, of Elkader, Ia., Helen Irvin of Clarinda, Velma Shepherd and her husband, Harold, of Bedford, Annalea Gilbert and her husband, Harold, of Carlisle, Ia., James R. [obert] Irvin and his wife, Mary Anne, of Bedford, Jacqueline Jacobs and her husband, James, of Hawarden, Ia.; 18 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; six brothers and sisters: Mable [Iona] Murphy of Clarinda, Floyd [Alton] Vawter of Coin, Cora Haynie of Shenandoah, Darlene Williamson of Shenandoah, Lester Vawter of Blanchard, Merrill K. (Brownie) Vawter of Shenandoah; other relatives and many friends.
Early in her youth she joined the Coin Methodist Church and transferred her membership to the Bedford United Methodist Church after moving here.
She was a kind and loving mother, sister, friend and neighbor and she will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Robert A. Irvin Burial At Coin
Robert A. [ndrew] Irvin, 68, a resident of the community east of Bedford, died Wednesday, March 22, at Municipal hospital in Clarinda after an illness of several months.
Funeral services were held at the Bedford Methodist church, Friday afternoon, March 24. Rev. Anthony Blankers, pastor of the church officiated. Burial was in the cemetery at Coin, Iowa.
Robert Andrew Irvin, son of John and Martha [McQuiston] Irvin, was born August 9, 1892 on a farm near Coin, Iowa and passed away at the age of 68 years, seven months, 13 days.
On May 24, 1913 he was united in marriage to Edna M. [ae] Vawter .To this union were born eight children.
Most of his life was spent in Page County. He was baptized and united with the Methodist church at Coin in 1903, later transferring his membership to the Bedford Methodist church after establishing his residence in Taylor County in 1939.
He is survived by his wife, Edna; two sons, Leonard and Jim [James Robert] of Bedford; six daughters, Mrs Lois Williams of Coin, Helen Irvin of Clarinda, Mrs. Glen (Dorothy) Myers of Canton, S. Dak., Mrs. Harold (Velma) Shepherd of Bedford, Jacqueline Irvin of Des Moines, Mrs. Harold (Analea) Gilbert of Springfield, Ill.; 12 grandchildren, three great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Lida Safley of Bedford, Mrs. Mattie Whitmore of Coin; four brothers, Wes of Clarinda, Ed of Coin, Leo of Bloomfield, Elton of Shenandoah; also one daughter-in-law, three sons-in-laws.

CLYDE KEMERY PASSES AWAY
Clyde [Kenneth] Kemery passed away at the Ringgold County Hospital in Mt. Ayr over the weekend, where he had been a patient for several days following a heart attack.
Final rites were conducted at Blockton, Iowa on Tuesday, May 20th.
Among those surviving are his wife and two sons, Wayne and Jerry, both of Blockton, two daughters-in-law and his grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services for Clyde Kenneth Kemery, 51, well-known Blockton craftsman and community leader, were held Tues., May 20, at the Blockton United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Clarence Landis and Rev. G. W. Swan. Mr. Kemery died at Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr May 16, 1969. Following the service at the capacity packed church, interment was at Rose Hill Cemetery, Blockton.
Included in Mr. Kemery's survivors are his wife, Leah; and two sons, Jerry and Wayne and their families.

Final Rites Held For Clyde Kemery
Funeral services for Clyde Kemery, 51, well known Blockton craftsman and community leader, were held May 20 at the Blockton United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Clarence Landis, assisted by Rev. G. W. Swan. Mr. Kemery died at Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr, May 16, 1969 after a short illness. Following the service at the packed church interment was at Rose Hill Cemetery, Blockton.
Clyde Kenneth Kemery was born October 23, 1917 to Ira B. and Vesta Kemery near Maloy, Iowa.
He was united in marriage to Leah Drake on October 8, 1936. Unto this union two sons were born, Jerry and Wayne, both of Blockton.
He was a faithful member of the Blockton United Methodist Church. He served faithfully on the Official Board for many years and gave wise and sound counsel which will be greatly missed. He was also a good community leader for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his immediate family, all of Blockton, Leah, his wife, Jerry and Karen and Wayne and Pat; five grandchildren, Kathy, Mike, Connie, Marilyn and Debbie; mother-in-law, Mrs. Georgia Drake, Blockton; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Drake of Blockton and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Lines and family of Villisca, Iowa; many aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends.
He will be greatly missed by his family for his fatherly advice, companionship and pleasant smile, his church for his guidance and counsel, the community for his fine leadership and this great Midwest area for his respected and top quality workmanship.

Thomas Roberts, 79 Last Rites Held January 12
Funeral services for Charles Thomas Roberts, 79, of Bedford were held January 12 at Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford with Rev. Ollie Odle officiating. Mr. Roberts died January 9, 1974 at Rosary Hospital in Corning, Iowa. Interment was at Washington Cemetery, Gravity.
Charles Thomas Roberts, son of Robert Edwin [Edward] and Nancy Jane (Scott) Roberts, was born at Camden Point, Missouri, May 14, 1894.
At about the age of 15, Tom came to the Remington farm west of Bedford, Iowa and later moved to a farm near Gravity, Iowa.
On April 15, 1914 he was united in marriage to Catherine May Richardson at Bedford and to this union two children were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.
Mr. Roberts spent most of his lifetime as a farmer in the Taylor County community. He loved nature and the land and he chose to devote his life to caring for the acres he felt were entrusted to him.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Catherine May, of the home; his two children, Charold, and his wife, Jean, of Spencer, Iowa; Emily, and her husband, John Agnew, of Corning, Iowa; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren; several nieces; nephews and many friends.
Mr. Roberts became a member of the Oak Hill Church while Rev. Rhodes was minister.
During Tom's illness he was very patient and considerate of those who cared for him.
He was a kind, considerate husband, father, grandfather and neighbor, always willing to give help to those in need. He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.

OBITUARY
George D. Roberts Obituary
George D. Roberts, son of Robert E. [dward] and Nancy [Jane Scott] Roberts, was born April 18, 1892, at DeKalb, Mo.; and died Sept. 16, 1951, at St. Joseph hospital in Vancouver, Wash.
He spent his boyhood days on a farm near DeKalb, Mo. March 14, 1914, he married Bessie [Bell] Konecne at Bedford. He joined the Oak Hill Christian church in 1920.
After farming several years in Taylor County, they moved to Vancouver, Wash., in 1943. There he worked for the Oregon State Highway department.
Surviving are his widow; three sons, Cleo Roberts of Lenox, Densel Roberts of Hawarden, Iowa; Berdine Roberts of Vancouver, Wash.; two grandsons and a granddaughter; two brothers, William of Los Angeles and Tom of Bedford; a sister, Mrs. Clarence Meredith [Mary Emily] of Bedford; a half-sister, Mrs. Betty Lovelace of DeKalb, Mo.
Services were held Sept. 21, at the Gravity Christian church. Rev. Butts of Lenox officiated. Burial was in Gravity cemetery.

Nancy Roberts Succumbed Thursday
Mrs. Nancy Roberts died Thursday, November 11 at the home of her daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. C. [larence] E. [dwin] Meredith, southeast of Bedford.
The funeral services were held at the Christian Church in Gravity Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. George W. Swan of Bedford. Burial was in the Gravity cemetery.
Nancy Jane Scott, daughter of Daniel Boon [e] and Mary Jane [Emma Pickerel] Scott was born July 3, 1867, in Wallace, Mo.; being aged 81 years, 4 months and 8 days at the time of her death.
She was married to Robert E.[dward] Roberts of Wallace, Mo., Dec. 9, 1888 [December 9, 1889 in St. Joseph, Buchanan County, Missouri]. To them four children were born: William James [James William] Roberts of El Cajon, Calif., George D. Roberts of Vancouver, Washington, Thomas Charles [Charles Thomas] Roberts of Bedford, and Mary E. [mily] Meredith of near Bedford.
The earlier part of her life was spent in Missouri. She came with her husband and four children to Iowa 39 years ago and spent the remaining years in Iowa.
She gave her life to Christ at the age of 16 in Missouri, later transferring her membership to the Christian Church at Gravity, while residing there.
Her husband passed away Feb. 8, 1937 at Nodaway, Iowa. Since that time she had made her home with her daughter, with the exception of short periods spent with her other children.
Granny, as she was called, was preceded in death by one grandson.
She leaves to mourn, three brothers, Charley [Charles Rufus] Scott of Mulvane, Kans., Boone [Bruce] and Bonnie [Everett] Scott of St. Joseph, Mo.; the three sons and one daughter; and one stepdaughter, Mrs. Bettie Lovelace of DeKalb, Mo.; four granddaughters and eight grandsons; eight great granddaughters and seven great grandsons.

R. E. Roberts, 69, Former Resident, Dies
R. E. Roberts, 69, of Nodaway, who had been critically ill for the last six months and in failing health for the last year and a half, died of heart disease and complications Monday, Feb. 8, at his home in Nodaway where he had resided the past 13 years.
The funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 10, at the Methodist church in Nodaway, conducted by Rev. D. A. Zook. Burial was in the Gravity cemetery.
Robert Edward Roberts was born Jan. 1, 1868 [1867], son of Edward and Margaret [Elizabeth Ralston] Roberts, in Platte County, Mo., and was married to Nancy Jane Scott, Dec. 11, 1890 [December 9, 1889], in St. Joseph. His wife survives.
Mr. Roberts was the last of a family of twelve children. He leaves his five children who are: Mrs. Cecil Lovelace [Bettie Harris], DeKalb, Mo.; Jas. William Roberts, Nodaway; George D. Roberts, Brooks; Chas. Thomas Roberts, Bedford; and Mrs. Clarence Meredith [Mary Emily], Gravity. There are also twelve grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Mr. Roberts moved to Iowa in 1900, settling in the vicinity 8 miles south of Bedford, later moving to Nodaway where he owned a butcher shop and grocery store until two years ago. He was a member of the M. E. church in Wallace, Mo.

Obituary
R. [obert] E. [dward] Roberts, the son of Margaret [Elizabeth Ralston] and [Robert] Edward Roberts, was born in Platte County, Mo., January 1, 1867 and died at his home in Nodaway, Ia., Feb. 8, 1937, at the age of 69 years, 1 month, 3 days. He was the last of a family of 12 children to pass to the Great Beyond, he also being the youngest of his family.
He was married in [March 10] 1880 to Miss Bettie Harris. To this union two children were born. The wife and mother passed away November 1886, also one daughter, Maggie Ann died May 11, 1906 [?]; one daughter, Bettie Lovelace, now living at DeKalb, Mo.
On December 9, 1889 he was married again to Miss Nancy Jane Scott of Wallace, Mo. To this union four children were born, three sons and one daughter: James William of Nodaway, Iowa; George Edward of Brooks, Ia., Charles Thomas of Bedford, Iowa and Mary [Emily] Meredith of Gravity, Iowa. He united with the M. E. church at the age of 18 at Wallace, Mo., and remained a faithful believer until his death. He was a butcher by trade, being in business the greater part of his life in various places, coming to Nodaway 10 years or more ago. The last few years he has been confined mostly to the house on account of poor health. Besides his wife and five children, he leaves to mourn his passing 11 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, a host of other relatives and friends.
He was a devoted husband and father, a kind friend and neighbor. He will be sadly missed by those who loved him most.
Funeral services were held at the home Wednesday, February 15th at 2 oÕclock conducted by Rev. D. A. Zook, pastor of the M. E. church. The singers were: Mrs. Ferne Read and Mrs. Harold Everett. Interment was made in the Gravity cemetery. Those from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mrs. Rufus Maget and son, Mrs. Andy Downing and daughter and son, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Roberts, Irvin Roberts, all of New Market, Mo.; Eric Roberts of Weston, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Lovelace and daughter of DeKalb, Mo.; Ethel and Evalina Roberts of St. Joseph and Mrs. Ruth Scott of Dearborn, Mo.

Clifford Zollman Dead
The announcement last Thursday of the death of Clifford [Severns] Zollman at the home of his parents F. [rank] A. [lexander] Zollman and wife [Mabel Severns], north of town, came as a severe shock to the many friends of the family. Death followed a very brief illness and was caused by acute nephritis. Clifford was a bright lad of ten years and was a general favorite among those who knew him. He will be greatly missed in the home.

Obituary
Clifford Severns Zollman was born in Rockbridge County, Virginia, July 16, 1912,and passed away at the home of his parents near Blockton, Iowa, August 31, 1922, aged 10 years, 1 month and 15 days.
He was the son of Frank A. [lexander] and Mabel C. [lair Severns] Zollman. Besides his parents he leaves three sisters and 1 brother—Mildred, aged 13; Albert, 3; Ora, 5, and Lenore, 3—and a host of relatives and friends to mourn his untimely death.
The bereaved family have the sympathy of all in this dark hour of sorrow.
Funeral services were held at the home Friday afternoon at 2:30 conducted by A. G. Simmons, pastor of the Blockton Methodist church, and interment was made in Rose Hill cemetery.

Services For Frank Zollman
Final rites were conducted Friday afternoon for Frank A. [lexander] Zollman of Blockton, 83, who passed away Wednesday at the Ringgold County Hospital in Mt. Ayr.
He was a retired farmer. He is survived by his wife, Mabel; three (3) daughters, Mrs. Mildred Howell of Merrill, Nebraska; Mrs. Lenore King of Blockton and Mrs. Ora [Alice] Bell, also of Blockton.
Two (2) sons, Albert [Cunningham] of Descanso, California and William of Perry; four (4) sisters and one brother also survive.
Services were conducted by Rev. George Swan, assisted by Rev. Clarence Landis, and were held in the Blockton Christian Church with burial in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Blockton.

Funeral services for Frank Alexander Zollman, 83, of Blockton, held May 16 at the Blockton Christian Church were conducted by Rev. G. W. Swan assisted by Rev. Clarence Landis. Mr. Zollman died at Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr May 14, 1969. Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Blockton.
Frank Alexander Zollman was born July 30, 1886 near Lexington, Virginia, the son of William and Ida [Reese] Cunningham Zollman, the fourth of thirteen children.
He was married May 27, 1908 at Claremore, Oklahoma to Mable [Clair] Severns. To this union six children were born: Mildred [Edith], Mrs. C. [larence] R.[aymond] Howell of Morrill, Nebraska, Albert [Cunningham], of Descanso, California, Ora [Alice], Mrs. William Bell of Blockton, [Mabel] Lenore, Mrs. Everett King of Blockton, William of Perry, Iowa and Clifford [Severns], who preceded his father in death August 31, 1922.
In addition to his wife and children, sons-in-law and daughters-in-law, he is survived by 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, one brother, William [Marshall], four sisters, Mrs. [Sarah] Blanch McHenry, Mrs. Angelina Moore, Mrs. Mary [Elizabeth] Montgomery and Mrs. [Eva] Josephine Morrison all of Lexington, Virginia, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
[As lovers of the outdoor life and animals], Frank and Mabel spent most of their nearly 61 years together farming. They retired and moved to Lenox in 1947 and moved to Blockton in 1966.
He was a faithful member of the Blockton Christian Church and of the IOOF society.

Funeral services for Mrs. Frank (Mabel) Zollman, 89, of Blockton, held January 9, 1974 at, the Blockton Christian Church, were conducted by Rev. G. W. Swan. Interment was at Rose Hill Cemetery, Blockton.
Mabel Clair Severns, second daughter of Sidney and Ora Beeson Severns, was born August 28, 1884 near Ulysses in Butler County, Nebraska.
She came with her family as a young girl to Blockton where she joined the Christian Church. She was active as Sunday school teacher and Ladies Aid member, faithful as long as her health permitted.
She taught in the rural schools of Taylor County several years.
On May 27, 1908, she was married to Frank [Alexander] Zollman. Their children are Mildred [Edith] Howell of Morrill, Nebr.; Albert [Cunningham] of Descanso, Calif.; Ora [Alice] Bell of Blockton; [Mabel] Lenore King of Blockton; and William of Perry, Iowa. She has two daughters-in-law; three sons-in-law; 11 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a young son, Clifford; her parents; two sisters and one brother.
All who have known her will miss this good and faithful friend.
