Mrs. L. T. Tracy

Mrs. L. [evi] T. [hompson] Tracy passed away early Sunday moaning, at the home of Mrs. J. H. Snyder in west Bedford, where she had been making her home. The funeral services were held at the Methodist Episcopal Church on Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. M. R, Talley. Interment was made in the Fairview cemetery.

Nancy Jane, daughter of Joseph and Catherine [Mosier] Lafever [Lefever], was born at Liberty Hill, Morgan County, Ohio, on May 17th, 1848. The mother died leaving a family of six children of which she was the youngest, being six years of age. Soon after her father moved to Chariton, Lucas county, Iowa, where she grew to womanhood, later moving to Rome, Henry county, Ia., where in November, 1873, she was united in marriage to Levi T. [hompson] Tracy. To this union seven children were born, five sons and two daughters, namely, Frank Beman of Afton; Charles Jesse and John Otto, of Bedford; Levi Bert of Marshall, Mo.; Leland Edward, who died in infancy; Margaret Elizabeth Moore of Gravity; and Jennie Helen Hicks who died Feb. 21, 1920.  In the year 1885, Mrs. Tracy united with the Methodist Church, and remained a faithful member until her death. She was raised by strict Methodist parents, her father being an exhorter and evangelist in the good old Methodist church. Her husband, Levi T. Tracy died Aug. 14, 1926. Glen Tracy, a grandson, made his home with them until his enlistment in the Army, and Mrs. George Van Alstine, a granddaughter, was also with them for several years. There are ten grandchildren and five grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Tracy moved to Bedford in Oct., 1901, and this has been the family home since that time. At the time of coming to Bedford they had transferred their church membership to the local church and their membership continued until their death. The family found that practically all plans for the funeral had been made---the songs selected and the scripture lesson chosen, showing a clearness of mind and a definiteness of purpose that was characteristic of their mother throughout her life.

In her early life she was a member of the Methodist church, but since moving into the vicinity of Delphos, Iowa, united with the Baptist church at that place, of which she was a faithful member until the time of her death.

Also one sister, Mrs. Mattie Hannon, of Philadelphia, Pa.; one brother, Henry Hayes, of Blockton, Iowa, twelve grandchildren, and a host of friends. All of the children were present at the funeral.

She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, not only to her own children, but also to her niece, Audrey Walston, whom she took into her home and cared for, being left motherless at the age of three years. Her kindly advice will be greatly missed in the home, also her helpfulness in the church and community, as she was always willing and ready to help those about her who needed help. Truly it may be said of her "Her children rise up and call her blessed, her husband, and he praiseth her."
