Funeral services for Mrs. Ollie [Olive Pearl Henderson Shepherd] Talkington of Bedford will be held May 1 at the Bedford Christian Church with Rev. John D. Kerr officiating.   Mrs. Talkington died April 28 at Pearl Terrace Manor here.  Interment will be at Bedford Cemetery, Bedford.

Included among the survivors are a son, Harold Shepherd of Bedford; and two daughters, Mrs. Orville (Audrey) Jefferies of Kansas City, Mo. and Mrs. Cecil (Minnie) Cordell of Clearfield.

Final Rites Held In Bedford For Mrs. Talkington

Funeral services for Mrs. Ira (Olive) Talkington, 78, lifetime Taylor County resident, were held May 1 at the Bedford Christian Church conducted by Rev. John D. Kerr. Mrs. Talkington died April 28, 1969 at Pearl Terrace Manor here. Interment was at Bedford Cemetery, Bedford.

Olive Pearl Talkington, daughter of Edward [Daniel] and Minnie Belle [Potter] Henderson, was born at Platteville, Taylor County, Iowa on July 23, 1890.

She lived her entire life in the Bedford and Siam communities.

On September 2, 1908 she was united in marriage to Albert Elmer Shepherd, who passed away on April 1, 1925.

To this union four children were born, Audrey [Eula], Mrs. Orville Jefferies of Kansas City, Mo.; Minnie [Bell], Mrs. Cecil Cordell, Clearfield, Ia; Harold [Jesse] Shepherd of Bedford, and a son who died in infancy.

On November 5, 1933, she was united in marriage to Ira O. [rval] Talkington of Bedford who preceded her in death on September 20, 1968.

Left with memories, besides her three children, are three sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Nellie Cobb Adamson of Bedford, Mrs. C. W. Horning of Bedford, Mrs. William Carney of Campbell, Nebraska, Lee Henderson of West Allis, Wisconsin, and Kenneth Henderson of Excelsior Springs, Missouri; 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and many relatives and many friends.

She was a devoted member of the Christian Church and until her health failed was deeply interested in her church.

Mrs. Talkington was a most kind and considerate person, dearly loved by neighbors and friends.

I. O. Talkington Rites Held Here Sept. 23

Funeral services for Ira Talkington, 87, long time Bedford resident, were held Mon., Sept. 23, at the Bedford Christian church.  Mr. Talkington died at West Heights Manor in Clarinda September 20. Interment was at Bedford Cemetery, Bedford.

Ira Orval Talkington, son of George Henry and Mary Celia [Webb] Talkington, was born near Alert, Indiana, July 6, 1881.  With his parents he moved to a farm near Sheridan, Mo., at an early age where he grew to manhood.

In November 1906 he was united in marriage to Lucy Caster, who passed away January 18, 1919.

On November 5, 1933, he was united in marriage to Mrs Olive Pearl Shepherd of Bedford.

He is survived by his wife, Olive; one step-son, Harold Shepherd, of Bedford; two step-daughters, Mrs. Minnie Cordell of Clearfield and Mrs. Audrey Jefferies of Kansas City, Mo.; 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; five brothers and two sisters; Mr. Cecil [Cosmo] Talkington of Cheyenne, Wyo.; Mr. James E.[lmer] Talkington of San Bernardino, Calif., Mr. Wayne Talkington of Bedford; Mr. Roy [Rosco] Talkington of Spokane, Wash.; Mrs. Lela [Edith] Fine of Bedford; Mrs. Howard Richey (Minnie) of Ellsworth, Iowa; Mr. Donald [Otto] Talkington of Saginaw, Mich.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother (Al) of San Diego, Calif., one brother and one sister who died in infancy.

Mr. Talkington has lived in the Bedford Community since 1920 where until his retirement he was always actively employed in local business establishments, and through his public contacts acquired a host of friends. He was a man who not only liked and enjoyed people, but was a person whom everyone liked and respected. He was a faithful member of the Christian Church.

Elmer Talkington Final Rites Held May 1

Funeral services for James Elmer Talkington, 88, of Anaheim, Calif., ware held May 1 at Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford with Carl Cummings officiating. Mr. Talkington died April 25, 1974 in Anaheim. Interment was at Gaynor Cemetery, Gaynor, Mo.

James Elmer Talkington, son of George Henry and Mary Celia Webb [Moran] Talkington, was born November 15, 1885, near Columbus, Indiana.

When a small lad he moved with his parents to the Sheridan, Mo., community where he grew to adulthood.

On November 15, 1908, he was united in marriage to Pearl May Bainum, at the home of the bride's mother near Sheridan and they continued to live in this community until 1919 when they moved to Carpenter, Wyoming, where they ranched and farmed for many years.

Six children were born to bless this home and to share their love.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Mary Cecilia, who died in 1954, four brothers and one sister.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Pearl; three daughters, Mrs. Loren (Marie) Sanders of Cheyenne, Wyo., Mrs. Lee (Myrle) Devore of Yreka, Calif., Mrs. Joe T. (Ethel) Smith of Cheyenne, Wyo.; two sons, Eugene of Cypress, Calif., and Elmer Jr., of North Platte, Nebr.; eight grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; three brothers, Cecil of Cheyenne, Wyo., Roy of Spokane, Wash., and Jack of Saginaw, Michigan; two sisters, Lela Fine of Bedford, and Minnie Richey of Sun City, Ariz.; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.

James Elmer spent his last years in California where he was very active in Senior Citizens, Y.M.C.A. Tours, bowling and programs of interest to Senior Citizens of the area.

The last six months of his life was lived in the Fountainblu Nursing Home in Anaheim, Calif.

He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

George H. [enry] Talkington, 82, died suddenly at his home in south Bedford about 11:30 o'clock Wednesday forenoon, August 4. He had been in his usual health and had just returned from town, and was sitting in his chair visiting with his wife when death came. He is survived by his wife, two daughters and seven sons.

Plans for funeral services are pending, waiting for word from two of the sons, who are on the west coast.

Obituary – G. H. Talkington

George Henry Talkington, son of Jacob [Lydick] and Elizabeth [Ellen Osborn] Talkington, was born Jan. 1, 1861 near Alert, Indiana, where he grew to manhood, and died at his home in Bedford Wednesday, August 4, 1943 at the age of 82 years, 7 months and 3 days. He was one of a family of five children, all preceding him in death.

He was married to Mary Celia Webb [Moran], September 30, 1880, in the same home where he was born. They made their home there until 1886 when they moved to Sheridan, Mo. leaving the farm in 1916 and moving to Bedford, where they had since resided.

To them eleven children were born two of whom died in infancy.

He is survived by his wife and nine children: Ira [Orval] of Bedford, Iowa; Cecil [Cosmo] of Carpenter, Wyoming; [James] Elmer of San Bernardino, Calif.; Al[phis Steven] of San Diego, Calif.; Wayne of Parnell, Mo.; Roy [Roscoe] of Kansas City, Mo.; Lela Snyder of the home, Minnie Richey of Carthage, Ill.; Donald ["Jack"] of Aurora, Ill., also by 16 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

He was an honorable and highly respected citizen, loved by all who knew him, and counted his friends by his acquaintances. He was always thinking of the welfare of others and was a kind and loving husband and father.

The funeral services were held at the Wetmore Funeral Home Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. C. C. Pritchard of Sheridan. Burial was in the Gaynor cemetery.

Alphis Stephen Talkington died at the home of Geo Talkington in Bedford Dec. 25, 1942. Funeral services were held at the Wetmore Funeral Home at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon conducted by Rev. Archie A. Ross, pastor of the local Presbyterian Church. Burial was in the cemetery at Sheridan, Mo.

Alphis Stephen Talkington was born at Alert, Indiana, Feb. 2, 1870. His father and mother and two brothers preceded him in death. He was united in marriage to Harriet Jane Davidson June 24, 1896. She died in 1928.

He is survived by one brother, Clint Talkington of Scottsbluff, Nebr; an uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. George H. [enry] Talkington of Bedford; several nieces and nephews.

Blockton Resident Dies Here Suddenly

In failing health for some time, A. [lphis] S. [tephen] Talkington of Blockton died suddenly Dec. 25, at the home of his uncle, George H. [enry] Talkington, of Bedford, where he had been visiting the past week.

Services were held Monday afternoon at the Wetmore funeral home, conducted by the Rev. Archie A. Ross, pastor of the Presbyterian Church. Interment was made in the Sheridan cemetery.

Former Resident Dies

Clifton Talkington, 82, of Scottsbluff, Nebr., died in a hospital there following a two months' illness. He formerly lived in the Sheridan community, moving to Scottsbluff in 1914. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Sheridan. His wife preceded him April 29, 1932. Four daughters and two sons survive.

Funeral services for Wayne Talkington, 78, of Bedford, were held September 14 at the Bedford Christian Church conducted by Rev. Ivo G. Randels.  Mr. Talkington died at his home in Bedford on September 11.  Interment was at Fairview Cemetery, Bedford.

Wayne Talkington, son of George Henry and Mary Celia [Moran] Talkington, was born on a farm near Sheridan, Mo., December 16, 1890.

He is survived by his wife, Iva; two sisters, Mrs. Lela Fine of Bedford and Mrs. Minnie Richey of Ellsworth, and four brothers, Cecil [Cosmo] of Cheyenne, Wyo., [James] Elmer of San Bernardino, Calif., Roy [Roscoe] of Spokane, Washington, and Donald ["Jack"] of Saginaw, Michigan, 14 nieces and nephews.

Mr. Talkington was united in marriage to Fern Lindley, May 28, 1927, and to this union a son, Carroll Dean, was born, who lived only seven days.

His wife, Fern, passed away July 20, 1932.  Also preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers and one sister, Ira [Orval] of Bedford, Al [phis Steven] of San Diego, Calif., and an infant brother, Charles and a sister Elsie who also died in infancy.

Mr. Talkington was united in marriage to Mrs. Iva Mae Terry February 17, 1949, and they made their home in Bedford since retiring in 1960.

Wayne was a member of the First Christian church in Bedford, and will always be remembered as a kind and devoted husband, brother, and uncle.  He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Mrs. G. [eorge] H. [enry] Talkington died at the St. Francis Hospital in Maryville, Missouri, Friday, June 18.  She fell several weeks ago and broke her hip, being taken to the hospital at that time.

The funeral services were held at the Wetmore Funeral Home Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Geo. W. Swan.  Burial was in the cemetery at Gaynor, Mo.

Mary Celia Moran, daughter of Gemima and William Moran, was born near Alert, Indiana, June 6, 1862, being aged 83 years and 12 days at the time of her death. She spent her early life there, where she united with the Christian church, later transferring her membership to the Bedford Christian Church.

On September 30, 1880, she was married to George H. [enry] Talkington. In 1886 they moved with their three children to Sheridan, Mo., where they resided on a farm until 1916, when they moved to Bedford.

They were the parents of eleven children, two of whom passed away in infancy.  The others are seven sons, Ira [Orval] of Bedford, Cecil [Cosmo] of Carpenter, Wyo., [James] Elmer of San Bernardino, Calif., Al [phis Steven] of San Diego, Calif., Wayne of Parnell, Mo., Roy [Roscoe] of Connell, Wisc., Donald ["Jack"] of Saginaw, Mich.; two daughters, Lela Snyder with whom she made her home, and Mrs. Howard Richey [Minnie] of Carroll, Iowa.  There are also 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Al Talkington Dies In Calif.

Funeral services for Al Talkington, 76, were held Oct. 1 in Pacific Beach Presbyterian Church in San Diego, Calif. Mr. Talkington was fatally injured in an automobile accident Sept. 28 when his car was struck at an intersection. Interment was in Greenwood Memorial Park in San Diego.

Al Talkington was a brother of Mrs. Lela Fine, Ira [Orval] Talkington and Wayne Talkington. Mrs. Fine was in San Diego for the services.

Alphis Steven Talkington was born in Missouri. As a young man he lived in Iowa and worked for the Cudahy Packing Company for 26 years in Des Moines and Sioux City. He later operated a grocery store and meat market.

In 1942 he went to San Diego and first worked as a dispatcher at Consolidated Aircraft. On January 3, 1963 he observed 17 years of service with the Golden Arrow Dairy.

"Al" was an active citizen. He was a trustee in the Pacific Beach Presbyterian Church and a member of the church "Mariners" married couples club.

He is survived by his wife, Sue, a son, Bob of Chula Vista, a daughter, Marjora (Mrs. Vic Van Maren), six brothers, two sisters, six grandchildren and one great grandchild.

His wife, Sue, was also injured in the accident, receiving multiple rib fractures.

Death of Jack Talkington in Michigan reported

Donald O. (Jack) Talkington, 77, Saginaw, Michigan died at Saginaw General Hospital Monday, October 28, 1985.

He was born September 20, 1908 in Sheridan, Missouri, and moved to Bedford, Iowa, as a child.

He married Miss Regina Broski on June 18, 1931 in Illinois. They moved to Saginaw in 1946 where he was employed by Rainbow Baking Company for 26 years as a superintendent. He then spent 14 years at the Gase/Schafer Baking Company and retired in 1977. He was a member of L.O.O.M. #82.

Surviving besides his wife are four sons and their spouses, Robert and Betty Talkington of Aurora, Illinois; Jacque Talkington of Phoenix, Arizona; Brian and Sue Talkington of Birch Run, Michigan; Donald Talkington, of Saginaw, seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one brother and two sisters, Roy Talkington of Renton, Washington; Mrs. Leila Fine of Bedford, Iowa; Mrs. Minnie Richey of Sun City, Arizona. Six brothers, one sister and one grandson predeceased him. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.

The Angel of Death has again entered this community and left sadness and sorrow in two homes. Albert [Elmer] Shepherd passed away at his home south of Siam Thursday at 11:45 p. m. of pneumonia. Aged 43 years and 1 month.  He was united in marriage Sept. 2, 1908, to Miss Ollie Shepherd [Henderson] of Bedford, who survives him. To this union four children were born, one son dying in infancy. The surviving children are Audrey [Eula], Minnie [Bell] and Harold [Jesse]. He also leaves an aged mother, four sisters and one brother. He was a member of the Church of Christ at Siam, and a member of the Woodmen Lodge. Funeral services were conducted Sunday at 2 p. m., at the Church of Christ by [the] pastor of the Bedford Church of Christ, assisted by Rev. Williams of Siam. The family have the sympathy of all in the loss of husband and father.

Death of Albert Elmer Shepherd

Albert Elmer Shepherd was born in Taylor County, Iowa, May 2, 1883 near the city of Clearfield and departed this life Friday evening, April 2, 1926, at his home near Siam.

Mr. Shepherd moved with his parents when 4 years of age to the place where he continued to live until his passing away. September 2, 1908, Mr. Shepherd was united in marriage to Miss Olive Henderson and to this union were born four children, one of whom died in infancy. He leaves to mourn, a wife and his three children, Audry Eula, Harold Jesse, and Minnie Bell, his mother, Sarah Ann Shepherd of Bedford and four sisters and one brother, Nancy [Almira] Phillips of Conway, Livina Grubb of Bedford, Anna Watkins of Bedford, Lucinda Wilt of Atlanta, Mo. and Roy Shepherd of Newberg, Oregon.

He was a member of the Modern Woodmen and also a member of the Christian church at Siam.

OBITUARY.

Jesse B. Shepherd.

Jesse B. Shepherd died at his home southwest of Siam, April 23, 1912. The funeral services were held last Thursday at the home in Polk Township, conducted by Rev. C. H. Mattox, of Bedford. Interment was in Bedford cemetery.

He was born in Ripley County, Indiana, March 19, 1840. His parents moved to Warren County, Illinois, in 1852, and Mr. Shepherd grew to manhood in that place. In 1861 he enlisted in the Eleventh Illinois cavalry and served four years, receiving an honorable discharge. February 8, 1866, he was united in marriage with Sarah M. [ariah] Lathrop. Ten children, four of whom died in infancy, were born to this union. In 1880 the family removed to Clearfield, Iowa, where they resided until 1897, when they went to their present home. Mr. Shepherd united with the Church of Christ in Roseville, Ill., in 1872, and continued to live as a Christian during the remainder of his life. He is survived by his wife, four daughters, two sons, one brother, two sisters, 19 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren, all of whom were present at the funeral services.

Jesse B. Shepherd was born in Ripley County, Ind., March 19, 1840, and died at his home near Siam, Iowa, April 23, 1912.

In 1862 he removed with his parents to Warren County, Ill., where he lived until 1880, when he moved to Iowa, settling near Clearfield, removing from there to Polk township in 1897, where he has since resided with the exception of the last two years which were spent in Bedford.

In 1861 Mr. Shepherd enlisted in the 11th Illinois Cavalry, serving four years.

He was united in marriage with Sarah M. [ariah] Lathrop in 1866 [February 8] and to this union were born ten children, four of whom died in infancy. The six surviving children are Mrs. Nancy [Almira] Phillips, Mrs. Levina [Lavina] Grubb, of Conway, Iowa; Mrs. Lucinda [May] Wilt, Atlanta, Mo.; Mrs. Anna Watkins, Conway, Iowa; Roy C. [lifton] and Albert E. [lmer], of Siam, Iowa. Besides his wife and six children he has one brother, and two sisters who survive him, George Shepherd, of Roseville, Ill.; Mrs Lon Newburn [Louisa], of Clearfield, Iowa, and Mrs. Susan Carmer, of Monmouth, Illinois. He also had nineteen grand children and two great grandchildren, all of whom were present at the funeral.

In 1872 deceased united with the church of Christ at Roseville, Ill., always remaining a consistent member.

Roy Shepherd, 57, Dies In Oregon

Roy [Clifton] Shepherd, 57, a former resident of Bedford, died at his home in Newberg, Oregon, Monday afternoon, June 27, according to a message received in Bedford by his nephew, Harold [Jesse] Shepherd. No details are known in regard to his death or the funeral arrangements, but it is presumed burial was made at his western home.

Mr. Shepherd was employed by the Bedford Creamery for many years, moving to Oregon eighteen years ago. While a resident here he was a member of the Church of Christ, of the I.O.O.F., Masonic, Rebekah and O.E.S. orders, transferring his membership there after he moved.

He is survived by his wife, who will be remembered in the Siam community as Miss Anna Smith. He also leaves three sisters, Mrs. Nancy [Almira] Phillips of Conway, Mrs. Lavina Grubb of Red Oak, and Mrs. Lucinda Wilt of Atlanta, Mo.; and by his nephew and two nieces in Bedford, Harold Shepherd, Mrs. Orville Jefferies [Audrey] and Minnie Belle Shepherd.

Mrs. Sarah M. Shepherd

Sarah M. [ariah] Lathrop was born on October 10, 1849, near Roseville, Illinois, and departed this life at her home in Bedford on May 30, 1928, 1928 at the age of 78 years, 7 months and 20 days.

On February 8, 1865, she was united in marriage to Jessie B. Shepherd of Roseville, Illinois, who preceded her in death sixteen years ago. To this union ten children were born, 7 [of] which died at an early age, Julius W., Emily Jane, Nellie and Oliver. Albert E. [lmer] proceeded her two years ago. Those living are Mrs. Nancy [Almira] Phillips of Conway, Mrs. Lavina Grubb of Red Oak, Mrs. Lucinda [May] Wilt of Atlanta, Mo., Mrs. Anna Watkins of Clarinda and one son, Roy [Clifton] Shepherd of Newburg, Oregon, who was unable to be present at her bedside.

She united with the church of Christ in her early married life and remained faithful throughout her life. She loved to attend the church services but for the last two years her health has not permitted her to attend regularly. She was a good mother and a true friend and will be missed by all who knew her.

Funeral services were held at her home on June 1st, conducted by Rev. Lucas, formerly a Bedford minister, and the body was laid beside her husband in the Bedford cemetery.
